    Shrimp with walnuts

Oh gosh, I see it's been 5 months since I ate here for the first time. Must be time to go back. Past time. Getting that eggplant urge. Soon. And the people were so pleasant and friendly. Yes: Going back.

Golden Duck has been on my list for some time now and I'm happy to report it was not disappointing. I enjoyed Golden Duck very much. All the dishes I ordered were delicious. However, I went specifically for the dim sum, which turned it to be a very small menu. But what I had was delicious. I especially enjoyed the stuffed eggplant. I ordered shrimp with walnuts from the regular menu and it was delicious, just a titch too sweet. I would have preferred plain walnuts over candy walnuts. The service was lovely and the interior is unassuming but clean. It's a nice little place for a strip mall. I would not make a special trip for Golden Duck, but if I'm in the area I would definitely stop in.

Lunch special, $7.95 for shrimp dish. Soup was good.

Golden Duck hasn't changed much since I wrote about it nine months ago. Even the little chip on the casserole dish is invariably in exactly the same spot. Strangely, it doesn't bother me anymore. Quiet background music cuts the noise a little. There are always a couple of loudmouth ladies gossiping about someone else's private issues in one of the booths. It's just part of the 'beauty' of this place. Our recent visit was pleasant as usual. The 'Hot and Sour' soup and the 'Wonton' is always a tasty way to start dinner. Of course, there are many different kinds of soups on the 'Traditional' menu. They all look worth trying and I would like to have some next time. The combination of 'Chinese Meatballs Casserole' and 'House Chow Fun Singapore Style' was perfect for sharing. The meatballs were soft and airy like a cloud, simply sumptuous. Served with perfectly done, crunchy baby bok choy and rice, it's one of our favorites. The noodle dish was also highly satisfying. Everything was steamy, hot and full of aroma. I couldn't ask for more. I can't be sure whether the food is authentic or not, but I like it. I don't compare Golden Duck to anything else. It's not a fancy place. The simple, outdated decorations might not appeal to everyone, but the red booths are cozy and comfortable. Our server was exactly the way I prefer. She gave us just the perfect amount of her attention.

I've gotten takeout from Golden Duck many times over the last 15 years I worked in Williamsville, mostly because they usually have the Chinese water spinach that I love during the summer, not because I like anything in particular. About a year ago (September 2019), I convinced my husband to go for lunch. It was a pleasant experience. We got the Chinese water spinach, Singapore mei fun, and black pepper beef minus the peppers because I despise green peppers. We also tried their duck which was a mistake. After having duck all over the world (Beijing, Hong Kong, Vancouver in the 90s, even Toronto... etc.), the duck here was definitely the worst we have ever had. Last month, I convinced my husband to go back for lunch again since we were going to be running errands in the area. This time we ordered a lot more food since we were starving. I got the crab meat soup which I've always liked from other places - it was OK here. I did not particularly care for the carrots or the peas and there was just a little too much starch added to it so it was a little too thick. Next we got the fried dumplings and they were delicious. They were out of the Chinese water spinach so we got the Chinese watercress instead which we also enjoyed. We also got the pork lo mein, the Chinese BBQ beef, and a tofu dish. The lo mein was fine. Can't really go wrong with that. Even the Chinese BBQ beef was OK even though I despised how much celery and carrots were in it vs the amount of beef. My husband hated it altogether because he just didn't like the Chinese BBQ sauce. The biggest mistake was ordering the mapo tofu dish. It was the blandest, grossest dish I have ever had at a Chinese restaurant anywhere. It was completely tasteless. The thing is - that tofu dish wasn't even the worst part of this lunch. Our waitress was! We had to flag her down numerous times to ask for basic things and sometimes multiple times before she actually brought them. She also had the worst attitude I have ever encountered and this actually means something since I experience a lot of that all over Europe and Asia so I'm no stranger to poor attitudes and service. And there was only one other table of 2 that came in about 5 minutes after we did, and then another table of 4 that came in about 20 minutes after we did. They too, had to flag her down multiple times asking for things throughout their meals. Needless to say - we'll never be back.

Gosh I love coming here! The service is so very friendly. On my last visit, my boyfriend went to open his fortune cookie and our server joked "it says 'you will pay the bill'. So funny! I've ordered many types of chicken here. My favorite is the orange chicken. Portions are huge and certainly shareable.

    $27 for this?

Take out was a waste of money and just not appetizing. This place has gone downhill. My family dined in here several times in the last few years, and it wasn't bad. What a surprise! I placed an order for pick up over the phone. I asked for Singapore noodles with Shrimp for my mother. She recalled they made it nice. Not anymore! We got dried out noodles with very few shrimp. Literally 5 small shrimp. She was disappointed. For $10. Then the Chinese snow pea shoot stir fried dish was $13! No meat. Just some greens. Really? If I had know it would cost that much when ordering over the phone, I wouldn't have. My fault for assuming the vegetable only dish would be around $8 as are other vegetable dishes on their menu. It was ok in taste but not spectacular. For 2 very mediocre dishes I paid $27 plus change. Not going back to this restaurant.

The food here is always excellent. They keep the hot tea pot filled. Cold sesame noodles, steamed dumplings, and a very broad menu along with excellent service keeps us coming back year after year. For those who enjoy alcohol with their meal, they have a full selection of whiskeys and cordials. The quality of food here is always good. Whether it's dine-in or take out, this place never disappoints.

My first time at this lovely establishment! They offer distanced seating and takeaway orders with payment via cash or card. I wanted to order a combination dish (beef & broccoli, fried or white rice, and an egg roll) but that option is offered for lunch only, between noon and three. Instead, I ordered a quart of beef & broccoli and a side egg roll. The egg roll was crispy and surprisingly made with shrimp! The beef was tender and the broccoli al dente; however, the sauce was overpowered by garlic and lacked much other flavor or seasoning. Looking forward to returning to try other favorite dishes.

We got a bunch of stuff and everything was delicious. Literally the best beef lo mein I've had since I moved here six years ago. I've been just settling with it at other places so this was an exciting discovery! We also ordered sesame shrimp. It wasn't like other sesame dishes we've gotten. It was a pink sauce that was similar to sweet and sour, but it was very good and the shrimp were large and plump and cooked perfectly. We tried their fried dough just on a whim and it's like nothing I've had before... it's a nice little add on for $3.50. They have American Chinese and also authentic dishes, which is fun. Prices are in line with other Chinese food restaurants and portions are pretty generous. We'll definitely be back...like, hopefully very soon!

I highly recommend Crystal Asian for great Chinese food!

Service was very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. For the AYCE, you can get almost every item on the menu by either ordering it via the tablet at the table or taking a plate you want off of the revolving belt that goes around the restaurant. My friend and I did a little bit of both. We tried a lot of items and definitely got our money's worth. My favorites were the scallion pancake with beef roll and mala soup dumplings. Everything was good, the only small complaint I have is that I love a very marinated smashed cucumber salad and the one I took off the belt seemed like it hadn't been seasoned and allowed to sit for very long, so it didn't have a strong flavor. Other than that, everything was very good and I'd return, although I'd probably do a la carte next time (simply because AYCE led me to eat too much!).

I was greeted by friendly staff and immediately shown to a table. Looking around, I found this restaurant to be smaller than what I had in mind, but nevertheless it was decorated nicely, and seemed clean. We were met by Jessie who gave us the run down how everything worked. Everything on the conveyor belt is part of the AYCE, and we're also able to place orders on the tablet which will be delivered either by server or by a secondary conveyor belt which is above the revolving one. The thing I really loved is the fact the sushi rolls on the conveyor belt were 3 - 4 pieces. A great way to try the roll if you're nervous about placing one in that would consist of 6-8 pieces. We were satisfied with the options for sushi rolls that made its way around. A few appetizers we also enjoyed were the cocktail shrimp and pickled daikon and carrots. Looking through the menu on the tablet, we placed in a handful of different dim sum and sushi. Some highlights for us were the shumai, shrimp dumplings, and tripe. Some appetizers from the tablet we enjoyed were the fried scallops and egg rolls. For sushi, we really enjoyed the white tuna tataki. The nigiri and sashimi were fair and pretty standard. Now onto why this is a 4-star vs a 5-star. I visited twice now, and it seems certain items are always sold out. Reading other reviews, it seems to be the norm. It makes me believe it's possible perhaps these items are always sold out or rarely offered at the restaurant. This is a disappointment considering we're paying full price for several items to not be offered. Egg tarts, roast pork pastries, even some sushi options were sold out such as salmon roe and surf clam. Overall, this is a nice restaurant, and we were treated with great hospitality from Jessie and we enjoyed the majority of the items offered here. We're hoping our next visit, there won't be so many sold out items.

Now, when I was going to RIT (back in the day), I remember this being a Might Taco... but I'm quite delighted to see it as an OG Dumpling House location too! (Though it's probably a good thing that it wasn't a dumpling house when I was in college, because those freshman 15 would have been aaaaaaaaaall because of the soup dumplings.) You can order takeout or sit in the restaurant. Our getting offered a table when we first got there was a bit discombobulated, but we were asked after a few minutes if we wanted to sit or takeout and we confirmed we wanted to eat in the restaurant. After another minute or two, we were given our table. Because of the time waiting for our table, we had already decided on what we wanted to eat and drink... so we were able to order pretty quickly. We ordered the xiao long bao, of course, as well as steamed pork bao, and then fried green beans, fried calamari, and shumai to share. The items came out quickly enough... but as we were making our way through the plates, I was a bit surprised that our server wasn't also taking away plates that we'd finished. In most dim sum-type restaurants I've visited, it's common for the server to take finished plates away throughout the service to ensure you have room on the table for anything else that might be coming out. Since the tables in this location are perhaps a bit on the smaller side, we soon found ourselves running out of enough space to really spread out the plates to share. The soup dumplings are good... though they perhaps didn't have broth that was quite as flavorful as I'd been hoping for. I'm glad we visited, as OG Dumpling House has been on my list to try for quite a while. Now that the craving is appeased though, I'll be happy to try another one of Rochester's Chinese or dim sum-style restaurant locations.

The servings are definitely smaller than other places and the quality is not that great. The flavors seemed off. I've had these dishes and soups numerous timed from multiple other Chinese restaurants throughout WNY but this place just had very odd flavors and strange consistency to the food. The Hot and Sour soup was lacking flavor and had snot-like clumps in it. The chicken soup with mei fun noodles tasted bitter, almost spoiled or massive amounts of rice vinegar in it. The triple delight combo container was 85% rice and 15% triple delight (very small serving of the entree). The veggie dish and Happy Family were lackluster in flavor and the containers were not filled all the way (only about 3/4 of the way full). There are seats and about 6 tables inside and plenty of parking in the plaza parking lot. The staff is friendly and have everything ready in the usual 10 to 15 minutes.
