We came for the dim sum on a Saturday afternoon. It was outstanding. The place was packed, in booths and at tables, with Asian families enjoying traditional dishes like congee with roasted duck, and multiple types of noodle dishes and dumplings (bao). Although the dim sum menu is a single page, there are enough different kinds of foods here that even the pickiest of eaters will find something to satisfy them. Vegetarians and vegans will be happy here too. I was really pleased to see that hot and cold soy milks are offered: This restaurant caters to the Asian community, many of whom are lactose-intolerant. The bao are $5.50 - $6.50 for a steamer basket of 3-5 items; it's listed on the menu how many bao to expect, in case you're dining with a crowd. (And you really should!) The congee is listed as "small bowls" for $7.50, but I think at least 3-4 cups of soup fits there. It's easily shared. The stuffed eggplant I ate in Nanjing had ground pork, garlic scapes, and ginger. The ones served here are stuffed with an enormous sweet shrimp in each piece of tender eggplant: Better than I remember. The sesame balls were a little different too: I remember a pale, sweet paste inside a crispy deep-fried ball covered in sesame seeds. Here, the inner paste was sweet and black, but the flavor was the same. So was the joy in eating them. The pork with black bean sauce was so tender and delicious! We made that plate disappear! The har gow/crystal shrimp were perfect. We plan to return soon to try their spicy beef noodles ($13.95) and custard tarts - the recipe for which the Portuguese Jesuits brought to Macao in the 16th century. The atmosphere of the Golden Duck is very relaxed: A dim sum meal is usually a time to drink a little tea, eat a little food, and get caught up with family or friends. There's a full bar if you're celebrating; there's also a private banquet room. The regular menu is also available during the dim sum hours, as is a Mongolian buffet. The regular menu has Peking duck, available with some notice. My favorite celebration meal! Parking is in a strip mall lot, well off the street. read more

The absolute WORST hot and sour soup I have ever had. It was thick and slimy, had nothing but 2 hunkss of tofu and a couple of bean sprouts and had zero flavor. Tried to add my own extras at jome to make it palatable, but couldnt get past the sliminess. The shredded beef szechuan style was also awful. Tasted like fish. Never again. read more

The buffet is bland and tasteless. They offer chicken and beef, spinach and noodles, to which you can add onions, tasteless garlic, and bland sauces. No broccoli, peppers, or anything else to add taste or texture. They stir- fry it for you, but it's still bland. read more

Golden Duck has been on my list for some time now and I'm happy to report it was not disappointing. I enjoyed Golden Duck very much. All the dishes I ordered were delicious. However, I went specifically for the dim sum, which turned it to be a very small menu. But what I had was delicious. I especially enjoyed the stuffed eggplant. I ordered shrimp with walnuts from the regular menu and it was delicious, just a titch too sweet. I would have preferred plain walnuts over candy walnuts. The service was lovely and the interior is unassuming but clean. It's a nice little place for a strip mall. I would not make a special trip for Golden Duck, but if I'm in the area I would definitely stop in. read more

Golden Duck hasn't changed much since I wrote about it nine months ago. Even the little chip on the casserole dish is invariably in exactly the same spot. Strangely, it doesn't bother me anymore. Quiet background music cuts the noise a little. There are always a couple of loudmouth ladies gossiping about someone else's private issues in one of the booths. It's just part of the 'beauty' of this place. Our recent visit was pleasant as usual. The 'Hot and Sour' soup and the 'Wonton' is always a tasty way to start dinner. Of course, there are many different kinds of soups on the 'Traditional' menu. They all look worth trying and I would like to have some next time. The combination of 'Chinese Meatballs Casserole' and 'House Chow Fun Singapore Style' was perfect for sharing. The meatballs were soft and airy like a cloud, simply sumptuous. Served with perfectly done, crunchy baby bok choy and rice, it's one of our favorites. The noodle dish was also highly satisfying. Everything was steamy, hot and full of aroma. I couldn't ask for more. I can't be sure whether the food is authentic or not, but I like it. I don't compare Golden Duck to anything else. It's not a fancy place. The simple, outdated decorations might not appeal to everyone, but the red booths are cozy and comfortable. Our server was exactly the way I prefer. I've gotten takeout from Golden Duck many times over the last 15 years I worked in Williamsville, mostly because they usually have the Chinese water spinach that I love during the summer, not because I like anything in particular. About a year ago (September 2019), I convinced my husband to go for lunch. It was a pleasant experience. We got the Chinese water spinach, Singapore mei fun, and black pepper beef minus the peppers because I despise green peppers. We also tried their duck which was a mistake. After having duck all over the world (Beijing, Hong Kong, Vancouver in the 90s, even Toronto... etc.), the duck here was definitely the worst we have ever had. Last month, I convinced my husband to go back for lunch again since we were going to be running errands in the area. This time we ordered a lot more food since we were starving. I got the crab meat soup which I've always liked from other places - it was OK here. I did not particularly care for the carrots or the peas and there was just a little too much starch added to it so it was a little too thick. Next we got the fried dumplings and they were delicious. They were out of the Chinese water spinach so we got the Chinese watercress instead which we also enjoyed. We also got the pork lo mein, the Chinese BBQ beef, and a tofu dish. The lo mein was fine. Can't really go wrong with that. Even the Chinese BBQ beef was OK even though I despised how much celery and carrots were in it vs the amount of beef. My husband hated it altogether because he just didn't like the Chinese BBQ sauce. The biggest mistake was ordering the mapo tofu dish. It was the blandest, grossest dish I have ever had at a Chinese restaurant anywhere. It was completely tasteless. The thing is - that tofu dish wasn't even the worst part of this lunch. Our waitress was! We had to flag her down numerous times to ask for basic things and sometimes multiple times before she actually brought them. She also had the worst attitude I have ever encountered and this actually means something since I experience a lot of that all over Europe and Asia so I'm no stranger to poor attitudes and service. And there was only one other table of 2 that came in about 5 minutes after we did, and then another table of 4 that came in about 20 minutes after we did. Take out was a waste of money and just not appetizing. This place has gone downhill. My family dined in here several times in the last few years, and it wasn't bad. What a surprise! I placed an order for pick up over the phone. I asked for Singapore noodles with Shrimp for my mother. She recalled they made it nice. Not anymore! We got dried out noodles with very few shrimp. Literally 5 small shrimp. She was disappointed. For $10. Then the Chinese snow pea shoot stir fried dish was $13! No meat. Just some greens. Really? If I had know it would cost that much when ordering over the phone, I wouldn't have. My fault for assuming the vegetable only dish would be around $8 as are other vegetable dishes on their menu. It was ok in taste but not spectacular. For 2 very mediocre dishes I paid $27 plus change. Not going back to this restaurant. read more

I have Celiac disease and this is one of the only places I have entrusted to order from/ eat out at. They label their gluten free take out and have appeared to be fully aware of gluten free prep. I have not had any issues here and I've eaten their food quite a lot since my diagnosis a year and a half ago. Their food is by far my favorite Chinese in the area, so I consider it a wonderful stroke of luck that they are so accommodating and able to prepare a gluten free meal that I can eat! read more

Service was attentive enough the real problem was the food quality was pretty poor I had some sort of four star dish that had roast pork shrimp scallops and the most part was incredibly tough a I showed the owner that I could not even cut it with my fork She said said oh I'll get you a sharp knife and I said that really wasn't the point I shouldn't need a sharp knife to cut tiny strip support that have been sauteed that should be tender here there's some sort of a brown sauce all over everything and it was just not good I should have taken pictures this really what I should have done it didn't occur to me I was kind of shocked. Anyway I usually don't write that many bad reviews but I'll make an exception for these guys they didn't even want to take any food off the bill even though I didn't eat much of it at all Anyway live and learn never go back there again. read more

My first time at this lovely establishment! They offer distanced seating and takeaway orders with payment via cash or card. I wanted to order a combination dish (beef & broccoli, fried or white rice, and an egg roll) but that option is offered for lunch only, between noon and three. Instead, I ordered a quart of beef & broccoli and a side egg roll. The egg roll was crispy and surprisingly made with shrimp! The beef was tender and the broccoli al dente; however, the sauce was overpowered by garlic and lacked much other flavor or seasoning. It has been a very long time since I first got takeaway here but over the years I've had it a few times more and it has always been consistently decent. General Tso's. Shrimp Curry. And so on. We are talking about Americanized Chinese food so don't come here expecting to get anything authentic like some of the stuff over in Amherst, like Tasty Express, China Taste, Peking Quick One, and some of the Mandarin Garden menu. This Chinese restaurant in Williamsville feels more like a 3.5 star, but I decided to round it up to 4 star because of their service. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall and is bigger on the inside than what you expect to see from the outside. There are booth seats and table seats that seat about 40+ people in the main dining area, and they have a "Banquet Room" in the back of the restaurant for bigger groups. The place isn't that bright since the only windows are in the front of the restaurant, but it's not too bad. Once you are seated, they give you cold water and hot tea (Jasmine) and a bowl of wonton strips and dipping sauce. The sauce was on the watery side and the wonton strips were on the oily side. Still good though. We ordered General Tso's Chicken and Hunan Beef. General Tso's here is NOT the average General Tso's you'd expect: the sauce is a LOT more watery+drippy+oily and the color is lighter. Tasted more like sweet and sour chicken than General Tso's. The Hunan Beef was warned to be spicy, but it was extremely mild. The beed texture was good and the dish had a lot of vegetables, but it was on the saltier side. When they bring you the check, they also give you orange slices with fortune cookies, which was a plus. The service is really what I was satisfied with. Everyone was friendly - especially the older owner(?) lady - and it seemed that they had a lot of regulars. I do think most of the customers take-out their food though. There weren't as many dine-in customers despite the fact it was a Friday evening. Hoping to check out their dimsum on the weekends some time. :) read more

Excellent fresh Chinese food! So the place doesn't look like anything special or fancy. There's a cold storage section in front of you as you walk in, which looks to be a buffet for a hotpot / shabu-shabu type arrangement. There's an eclectic collection of bain-maries in front of the counter area, again presumably for buffet type service. I came here though after reading a couple of reviews that appeared quite favorable. It was a Sunday afternoon and I really had a craving for special fried rice and Chinese chicken curry. I know that doesn't sound very special, but let me tell you that it was the best special fried rice I have eaten in years! The curry was also excellent! Everything tasted fresh, and the spices shone through! It didn't taste like it had been partially prepared and waiting around to reheat quickly like most Chinese places seem to. It tasted like it had been made from scratch to order. I'm hoping that's the case, because if it is, whenever I feel like Chinese this is where I'll be coming! We use to love this place for Chinese but the last couple of times we have ordered from them, we were very disappointed. We will start with the egg rolls which when I pulled them out of the package were dripping with oil. We took paper towels to get some of the grease off of them & when I went to press on the egg roll, grease literally was oozing from it. Next for the General Tso Chicken. On the up side there was a decent amount of chicken in each one but they were not crisp at all & had absolutely no flavor at all. The rest of the order was edible but nothing spectacular to warrant us going there again. Unfortunately, we will have to try & find a new place for our Chinese food because this was just not acceptable at all. Especially for how expensive it has gotten. read more

For $9.50 per person you get all you can eat with choices of congee, make-your-own noodles soup/ lo mein, taiwanese braised pork sauce w/ rice and chicken nuggets, sticky rice, tofu pudding and lastly sweetened soy milk ice /hot.
