Waiting for the basketball daughter; Chinese it is--great vegetarian menu here with meatless chicken options! :-)
Tara K.

My husband and I were waiting for our kid to finish her AAU basketball practice nearby by loitering in the Dunkin lot next to the plaza where Taste Good is located. He looked over and said, "Hey, I hear that place tastes pretty good." He's cute, so the cheesy dad joke convinced me to give Taste Good a try. :-D And I'm glad we did! Taste Good prices are very reasonable, on the lower end of Chinese takeout that I've seen lately anyway. Where a lot of places are pushing $15 for most dishes, there are many $10.99 menu options here. Also, I eat vegetarian and was pleased to see a decent-sized list of vegetarian options that included some with plant-based chicken and beef. I decided to go with a tofu dish, the bean curd in garlic sauce. And the tofu here was really good! This dish had fried tofu that was cut into triangles a bit thinner than a lot of Chinese takeout typically does. So it was somewhat sturdier on the outside with more snap than usual, still with the chewy soft middle you'd expect. The portion was very generous, with a lot of tofu filling the standard rectangle plastic takeout container. The vegetables were ample too, but not so much that the tofu was skimpy, it was a good pile of tofu! I liked the tofu so much that I've since returned to Taste Good with my vegan teen daughter to get the same dish for her to try. And her verdict? She really likes it too! The thinner cut on the tofu really does allow it to have a more concentrated flavor from the sauce, and a really satisfying crisp-then-soft-chew to it. Taste Good is generally out of our way, but when we are in the area I will gladly stop back in to enjoy the tofu and try other parts of the vegetarian menu. This is strictly takeout, no tables inside. So if you are looking for affordable Chinese takeout that Tastes Good, well, it's in the name, you've found it!

I've been trying to figure what went wrong with the hot and sour soup. I mean, I knew how to fix it --add vinegar and hot sauce, so only thing I came up with is I got there too early, Ten minutes before they opened. Mine was the first order of the day, and it was six items... three people's worth of lunch (and supper and breakfast). The phone started ringing, caller holding, caller waiting, cook and help maybe still waking up. And someone forgot the vinegar and hot sauce. Stuff happens. Normally, hot and sour soup from here is the best in the area. And after I fixed it, it still is. The pork lo mein was very good, as usual. The shrimp roll had 2 or 3 whole shrimps in it, and not those tiny salad shrimps, But I deducted a star for having to fix the soup. This was first time I ever picked up from Taste Good at opening. 10:30. I was out and running errands. Next time, I'll start out later. Oh, and those who had egg fu yung reported it was best ever. Prices are up --as they are everywhere-- but so is quality. As long as cook has time to put it all together.

This is actually my favorite Chinese takeout restaurant in Buffalo so I don't know why it took me so long to write a review. You can eat inside but like most typical Chinese spots it's cold and basic so not really a spot most people stay at and eat. I love the general Tso chicken and shrimp eggrolls. The chicken is actually big chunks of chicken and not a bunch of breading like most restaurants give you. The wings are good too as well as the egg foo young. They get 4 stars because there have been times were my food wasn't great, but it's mostly consistent and good. They are pretty quick when you call to order.

Decent Chinese food. The chicken pieces are huge. Pork fried rice is very flavorful. Very quick service and I believe they deliver for free even. (I usually pick up)

It's fine for what it is; a quick Chinese food takeout option. Nothing special about it but does the job in a pinch.

When they rang me up I thought it was pricey for some "average" Chinese takeout , but now this is my NEW and ONLY spot I'm going to go to! The cashier was a little gruff, but the woman running back and forth between the kitchen and the front had a better business sense about keeping customers happy. She didn't want me to wait long, so I think she rushed the kitchen a little bit, which I appreciated, but also may have led to some of the demerits on the food I mention below. I was happy to see one dish I ordered, the pig intestine with fish, on their picture board above the cash registers. That gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing and it was the best dish by far out of the three I ordered. The intestine was fresh and flavorful, the spice level was high, but also not too salty. It was a lot of food. Only drawback here was the fish (tilapia?) seemed to be heavy on the breading. The other two dishes were disappointing. Penang curry with pork had good vegetables, but the sauce had too little flavor since they went too heavy on the coconut milk. The pork seemed like chicken, not pork. Way too soft and flavorless. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun had good noodles and veggies. But the curry powder was not blended in. Eating it, I could still feel it in powder form. It was also far too oily. Overall, I think they had a lot of options but next time I'd steer more towards classic Chinese, since that seems to be what they do well. I hope next time the flavors will be stronger and blended better (i.e. powders actually stirred in). I'm willing to give them another chance, since they do have a lot of dishes I like. Last note: the online ordering service does not indicate that dishes come with rice. I thought they would have rice by default, but then when I added the penang curry to my cart, it asked whether I wanted rice or noodles or something else. So that made me think I had to order rice separately, which meant I had twice as much rice as I needed. It also said "quart of white rice" was sold out, but "pint of white rice" was not, yet the rice that came with my meal came in a quart container.

I was seated and immediately served complimentary tea, and fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce. I ordered the Kung Pao lunch special which comes with a choice of egg roll or soup, and white or vegetable friend rice. I chose the wonton soup and fried rice, and I ordered an egg roll as well. The egg roll came out quickly, and the lunch special was served right when I finished that. The food was good and the dish was spicy (Kung Pao is supposed to be spicy but it never is-- not for me) and the service was polite. When the check came it was accompanied by a plate with two slices of orange and a fortune cookie. The only thing I didn't like about the visit was that there was an advertisement for a big commercial law firm on the back of the fortune slip and the "lucky number" was the phone number. I thought that was tacky. I walked out at 1:15pm. Great, quick lunch.

Nice people, good food, pleasant atmosphere: because I can never decide which is more important,…read morethey are equally important factors when rating a restaurant. Golden Hill has all three. And a lunch menu. Wow! I just gave my receipt another look and the people are nicer than I thought. I thought they were pleasant, friendly, happy we were there, concerned that we would enjoy our visit. The lunch menu offerings were each $10.95 and included eggroll OR soup, and white or vegetable fried rice. Daughter ordered the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus an appetizer order of steamed dumplings. I ordered Eggplant with Pork in Garlic sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus a small bowl of Hot and Sour Soup. The soup on the appetizer menu was $3.95. My receipt shows the server put the soup as my lunch choice and charged $2.95 for the eggroll. She never said a word, didn't point out that I could save a dollar by switching the sides around. So the people are all I thought plus kind and conscientious. Marvelous. I was delighted with everything I ate. The entree was enough for two, so supper came home with me. The eggroll was fresh and crisp and non-greasy, seemed homemade. Excellent. The eggplant was perfectly prepared and cooked, as was the pork. Delicious. The hot and sour soup was easily one of the best I've had, and I'm always looking for a great hot and sour soup. Coming from downtown Buffalo, we'd been in Williamsville because I had an appointment on Essjay Rd. Afterward, we looked for a place to have lunch before shopping. Finding Golden Hill at 4001 Sheridan Dr. in Amherst was pure serendipity. You can bet, though, that I will visit again after next appointment.

Their lo mein is totally different than when they first opened and I love it now. I got beef the first time, but it comes with very little, so I opted for vegetable the second time. Not a lot of vegetables throughout (mostly on top, as you can see in the photo), but it was really delicious! Both times the lo mein noodles were the perfect firmness and had great flavor. I want it again and again! Matt didn't enjoy his sesame beef. The batter is too thick, and the beef gets completely lost. I like that they will do sauce on the side. We like to toss it ourselves last minute so that it doesn't get soggy. Better for leftovers, too. They do charge an extra $1.50, but they give you a lot of the sauce. The wonton soup is amazing! A small is only $3.95 and it comes with five big pork wontons. Makes me happy because I get wonton soup cravings. I'll definitely be getting this again. The General Tso's Chicken is spot on. The pork egg rolls are good, your typical egg roll. The crab rangoons are also quite good. Their prices are great and the service has always been friendly. I'm so glad we tried again, they're really close by, makes it very convenient. We're definitely going to be frequently returning regular customers. Thanks Golden Dragon!!

I've been just settling with it at other places so this was an exciting discovery! We also ordered sesame shrimp. It wasn't like other sesame dishes we've gotten. It was a pink sauce that was similar to sweet and sour, but it was very good and the shrimp were large and plump and cooked perfectly. We tried their fried dough just on a whim and it's like nothing I've had before... it's a nice little add on for $3.50. They have American Chinese and also authentic dishes, which is fun.
