First, the food was quite good-the dumplings were tasty, not the absolute best ever but up there, I could be happy having them every day, and the price was fair. Unfortunately, they dont take credit cards which is inconvenient, and the ambience isnt that good. Very 'hole in the wall' type feel, the bathroom in particular was unpleasant. Best Chinese in Buffalo!! I have passed by this place many times and never stopped. Last night, I was craving Chinese food. I have tried a few different places and found most the Chinese restaurants in Buffalo to be ok at best, lacking flavor. I looked on Yelp in hopes of finding somewhere new to try, but with expectations not too high since everywhere else wasn't that great. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I called in my order ahead of time, and a had a few questions on the different combo platters and what was in them. The lady was very thorough in answering and explaining, not rushing. Inside, it's small but clean. I got the Hunan chicken combo which came with an eggroll and fried rice for only $8. The food was delicious, good spice and flavor, fresh, and plenty of veggies! Ordered takeout with a 20 min pickup. I would say that they are probably more of a takeout spot upon entering the restaurant. Only a couple tables for dining. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The food: ordered dumplings...the sauce is what brings this dish together! Nice flavor combo. Also ordered sesame chicken combo..per usual...at first glance I wasnt sure if the rice would pack a flavor punch but I was pleasantly surprised how flavorful and tasty the rice was. Ordered beef fried rice, hot and sour soup, beef with broccoli (spicy) and fried dumplings! The soup was almost 'sweet' and was nothing like any other hot and sour soup I'd had before. The beef fried rice was bland. The dumplings were ok. My beef with broccoli was ok too, but not really spicy! The food was not really hot either, and I live really close by. It took 25-30 minutes from when I initially called, normally it about 10 minutes! Probably won't come back, nor can I recommend this place. read more

I always come here for their lunch special. Keep in mind that they are cash only. My favorite meal is the sesame chicken with white rice. I like their sesame chicken because their pieces are small pieces of chicken. I don't like when my sesame chicken is 75% fried batter and 25% chicken. The portion is smaller than the dinner portion, but it is still pretty big. I normally get 3-4 meals out of it because I'm not a big eater. They have a small parking lot that is pretty cramped especially when coming from the small street but I only get take out from here. read more

This is the nearest Chinese restaurant to my new house, so I knew it wouldn't be long before we came calling. For convenience sake, I really wanted this place to be good, and after trying three different dishes I can say that it passed the test. We ordered the General Tso's Chicken and the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce combo platters as well as a pint size Beef Lo Mein. The Beef Lo Mein was probably my favorite despite modest expectations. In my experience, Chinese restaurants perpetually under-season beef, but that wasn't the case here. To be sure, none of the food was bad, but the General Tso's Chicken failed to really impress...just not garlicky enough. The few bites I had of the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce were flavorful enough. There's probably better Chinese around Buffalo, but Tin Tin is more than passable. 3.5 Stars. read more

This joint is run by Snowy the Dog and Captain Haddock, as a tribute to their Belgian redheaded detective friend, Tin Tin himself. If it were run by 2 irresistible women, it would be called Ten Ten. If those women had been sunning themselves, it would be Tan Tan. If it served very heavy food it would be Ton Ton. If it served heavy French food in a mall it would be Bon Ton. If it gave people indigestion, it would be Tums Tums. Come and try the delicious Chinese food at Tin Tin, it's cheap and cheerful and not half bad at all. As it stands, I am very attached to this place, mainly because I was glued to it as a kid. The food was okay (not amazing, not bad at all), I had my fave dish, the shrimp curry, and was impressed. I was even more impressed by the customer service. They are open super late, and served me even after closing time, very lovely of them. And they were not upset about it at all, so it seemed. There is a steady stream of customers in and out, indicating this is probably a "go-to" place for locals. On the counter you have a commonly laid out Chinese menu with the standard illuminated specials sign above. I was reluctant to review this place until I had a few visits under my belt. The quality of the food is consistent and the prices are great. Unfortunately it is cash only, with an ATM inside available. There is about 8 to 10 parking spaces available, alongside of the building on Starin Avenue. The restaurant itself is reasonably clean; which seems to be the common concern among Chinese restaurants. Each time I've been to Tin Tin the Cashier is always the same late-teen girl. She speaks English very well and is polite and kind. Tin Tin is a very unassuming restaurant. Our family have lived throughout Buffalo for years and never heard of this place. We happened to be at another restaurant nearby when I saw the Tin Tin sign. I've made it a habit of trying certain Chinese dishes whenever I see a new one to determine how good that restaurant will be. My expectations were really low. To my surprise, I did a double take not expecting that I was now forced to consider it the best Chinese food in Buffalo. The only reason I didn't Tin Tin 5 stars is because they only accept cash. In the 21st century I think it's virtually a must for successful restaurants to take credit cards. Other then that, I recommend this to every hungry soul in Western New York. read more

It's really a pity that a city the size of Buffalo being in such close proximity to New York and Toronto has never developed a knowledge or taste for authentic Chinese and Asian cuisines beyond these cookie cutter eateries that dot the landscape and insist upon calling themselves "Chinese" restaurants. Catering to the fickle American palate with loads of noodles, sweet sauces and rice dishes seems to be good enough for most folks as the reviews for this place (and 25 or more just like it) will testify. I could give some specifics on Tin Tin but not only wouldn't that serve a constructive purpose, my criticisms wouldn't sway opinion to any measurable degree, which isn't my objective anyway. My critiques are to alert other "foodies" of my experiences. I am not out to be hurtful or malicious in my comments, I do not seek to diminish their business; I'm just sharing observations from the perspective of a well traveled, semi-retired chef and a verbose dyed-in-the-wool "foodie." In my world, if you open an eating establishment, you have a moral and ethical obligation to put out the best damn food that your talents, abilities, disciplines and experience will provide you. In my opinion, these little operations aren't even trying anymore, they don't have to, it's the same 'ol, same 'ol day in and day out; uninspired machine made, mass produced frozen egg rolls are good enough. Every time their phone rings with another order of General Tso's chicken, chow mein or sweet and sour pork being made, they are reaffirmed that they are doing well enough; they are making a reasonable living and unfortunately, that's well enough. This is one of the better Chinese take out places in the area. We ordered there on a Saturday night, food was ready within 20 min, price was reasonable and the portions lasted through Sunday Night. I was a little disappointed that the steamed dumplings were too doughy, but they tasted okay. The Hunan Chicken was not spicy enough, actually it was not spicy at all, compared to what other places serve. I'm sure they could change that upon request. The fried chicken wings smelled and tasted amazing, best ones yet. They forgot an egg roll, but that wasn't a huge deal. Should've checked before we left. Mistakes do happen. I have been driving past this place for years and finally decided to stop by with minimal knowledge. Quite honestly I didn't feel like driving past my home to go to our usual Chinese spot. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming and the restaurant was clean. The parking lot was a bit tight with the snow, but not impossible. I was a bit taken aback by the cash only, luckily I had cash on me. They should probably put a sign on the door letting you know. Or at least notify you before you get over your order. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are good. I was a bit disappointed in the overall seasoning of the food. I ordered the beef and broccoli dinner which included fried rice and an egg roll. The fried rice was a bit bland and under seasoned and the beef was also just okay. The egg roll was a bit greasy for my liking, but, I admittedly am sensitive to grease. Overall the food was okay.
