Boy has this place gone down the tubes. I always thought it was pretty good for many years, but it has really fallen off in the last year or so. Today was the final straw, and I wasn't just unsatisfied - the food was absolutely disgusting. We ordered numerous things, about $60 of food and some of it isn't even edible. The egg rolls and General Tso's chicken was probably the worst I've ever had in my life. Save your money and eat somewhere else. read more

It's been way too long since we last visited Chang's Garden. Tonight we stopped in after a youth Learn to Skate clinic to reward our little boys for graduating from the trainers! The dining room is so beautifully decorated and the staff is laser focused on excellent customer service. What a relief in an era when many restaurants are cutting staff and installing kiosks. Our waiter greeted us quickly and poured water all around, and gave us a minute to study the beautifully bound menus. He placed a bowl of crispy wonton noodles with duck sauce on our table. I had to caution my boys not to make a meal out of the noodles, because they don't have a reputation for finishing their food. They would have loved a second bowl, but I put the brakes on that. I ordered the General Tso which was sizzling hot and moderately spicy. Super delicious in its signature sauce. The dish was garnished with a sprig of broccoli. So satisfying. My husband ordered the shrimp and vegetables with an egg roll. He was amazed at the dozen medium sized shrimp over a nice mound of broccoli. He was very pleased with his dinner. The real test was the two young boys. We'd planned to split a chicken finger appetizer between them but our waiter strongly encouraged us to order sweet n sour chicken with white rice. What a great suggestion! The kids devoured most of the mountain of chicken and a good portion of the white rice! Now, these boys are famously picky eaters, and often dig their heels in, refusing to finish their dinner for me. Today, I saw a different behavior from them. They ate with vigor and much excitement, discussing their LOVE for the food. We were pleased that we fed a family of four for only $51! And we took home three containers of leftovers! Food was meh. Steamed dumplings way too thick use of dough. Unfortunately that is all you really tasted. Green beans needed to be drier, they were too moist for what the dish should. House tofu came with enough veggies, but the sauce was really bland. Service was okay, nothing to make me want to order again. Ambiance, the order was pick-up, so it didn't apply to this order. Without a doubt one of the best Chinese spots in the Southtowns. Large generous portions of everything. Best eaten hot and fresh in their dining room, if possible. They use fresh and quality ingredients and have nice specials. They are pretty quick and everything comes out hot and fast. We just ordered their big juicy dumplings pork friend dumplings, egg rolls, crispy beef, fried rice and beef and shrimp platter. Tons of food. All was delicious. We stuffed ourselves and had an entire extra meal each. The one thing that's kind of annoying is that you can't have fried rice with a dinner. You are not even allowed to pay an up charge for it. You have to order it by itself. Not the end of the world, and I always end up doing it but it's like paying for an extra meal every time we go. I find Chinese a little pricey in this area. A pro tip is to order a few lunch specials and save them for dinner. Make your own buffet. They do include fried rice with their lunches. read more

Tried Changs for the first time. Disappointed in my Chicken and Garlic Sauce (1qt). It had a LOT of celery in it. I'm going to say that celery was 2/3 of the order. The sauce was bland. The food was so good. When you sit down, they give you fried wonton chips with a sweet and sour sauce dip. Unusual, but seriously addictive. We ordered a dinner for two - soup, eggroll or spring roll, and two entrees. We also got hot tea and dumplings. The dumplings were doughy and seemed to be home made. The eggrolls were super crispy and flavorful. We ordered veggie lo mein and sesame chicken as our entrees. The sesame chicken was like no other sesame chicken I've had. It was crispy super thin pieces with an orange ish sauce, rather than the brown gooey sauce you get other places. The only reason this gets four stars instead of five was the ambiance. The front of house was absolutely swamped with take out orders, so our server was preoccupied with that. Because of that, we never got drinks (besides the hot tea.) There also wasn't any music or anything, so besides the hustle and bustle of the to go orders, it was very quiet. Overall - this is one of my favorite eat in Asian restaurants, and I will keep coming back. read more

I will preface this review by saying I used to come here years ago 3-4 time per week for what used to be excellent lunches. Have not been back until today and can sum up my experience in one word. DISAPPOINTED. Previous owner and staff were overly friendly, and they were on a first name basis with regulars until said owner mysteriously disappeared one night. Today's food was barely "ok". Hot and sour soup was a congealed blob and not flavorful at all. Crispy sesame chicken, my previous go-to dish had that memorable and uniquely good flavor but was swimming in a puddle of sauce so only the top few pieces were crispy. Most disappointing was the efficient but extremely RUDE service provided by the two visible employees tending to four occupied tables. The food was actually being thrown on tables. Yes, thrown. Surroundings were odd with back corner of dining area being used as a cluttered open storage area. Will not be back. read more

I recently sat down to eat my Chinese food with a larger group. It was an experience I wasn't expecting! We were served green tea and these little fried wonton dippers and they were delish! My 3 year old went nuts over them! We ordered our food and everything was accurate and so tasty. I was surprised, the food was considerably better than when I bring it home for take out. My General Tso chicken had this amazing crisp to it that must get lost as it sits in the container on my regular ride home. I also really loved that this was a family-friendly environment. The server who took care of us was kind and understanding. I noticed she also had her small child in the restaurant being watched by a grandparent. I thought it was nice to see that type of family support. I recommend this restaurant to everyone! read more

Just not what it used to be... I've lived in the area for years and would eat on and off again at Changs' Garden since high school. The quality of food has gone down hill and general product output just isn't as good as some other Chinese restaurants in the area. I had ordered shrimp lo mein for take out maybe 2 weeks ago when I was in the area and it was a big let down. Greasy and had a smell to it...just a disappointment. RACISM ALERT: I just had the most racist experience at Changs Garden Inc in West Seneca. I am an African American who went there today. There was only ONE couple in the entire restaurant besides me who were already seated while I was waiting to get my takeout. The cashier said one minute; she went in the back and never came back out! Another worker saw me and decided to stare at me while she folded bags. I just stood there. Never said "may I help you". It wasn't until 3 Caucasian gentlemen walked in behind me that she decided to come up front and seat them. She starts to walk away but is forced to serve me after I gave her an ugly look. When friends wanted to treat me to lunch for my birthday, I jumped at the chance for Chinese takeout and watching a Netflix movie at their house. (Yeah, I'm a cheap date!) I hadn't had Chinese food since I don't know when, so it sounded pretty special to me. Good Kung Pao Shrimp, but awfully mild considering its menu listing had a pepper icon next to it. Not the very best I've ever had, but I would order it again, specifying extra hot. There certainly were plenty of shrimp. What I appreciated most was the option of brown rice. My BFF pronounced the wonton soup not as good as it used to be, but she still managed to slurp up every drop. read more

Giving this restaurant a second chance I ordered fried dumplings and a quart of wonton egg drop soup. When I got home and opened my order the dumplings were squashed in a tiny container and were burnt on one side and raw on the other. I had to cut off the HARD BLACK BURNT dough and toss it out .(the burnt side was facing down in the container) The soup was ediable just added some chicken flavoring. Along time favorite with great lunch combinations. We chose wonton soup, general Tso chicken with fried rice for our combination. First they bring crispy fried wonton strips with a sweet and sour dipping sauce, followed by our wonton soup which was rich in flavor.then our chicken and rice course came plated separately so we could share and dish out onto our plates. A complimentary pot of tea was also served and finally fortune cookies came.with the bill. Service is prompt and friendly and food is all tasty. We also ordered a combo with orange chicken which also was good with orange slice and red pepper in the sauce. There is a small, but sufficient parking lot and restrooms were clean. They do like to stage stuff in the back side of the dining room in plain view, so we just seat facing the front windows. Do note that fried rice is served at lunch and white rice at dinner. We always enjoy our meals here and having been dining with them for over 15 years. read more

We've been to this restaurant a few times in the past, mostly when we get a craving for Chinese food or are sick of our usual places to eat. It's sad that you expect to be slightly disappointed by the meal; however, given the options of sit-down or a buffet, I'll take sit-down any day. There are really only a couple left in the southtowns area these days. We went Saturday night and the place was pretty empty when we arrived. We were greeted happily by the guy at the desk. The waiter who took us to our table, however, actually threw our menus at us when we sat down. Little did we know that our "dinner and a show" was about to start. After a few minutes' contemplation of the menu, we finally ordered (way too much food). Vegetable bean curd soup and home style bean curd entree for me (both vegan), wonton and orange chicken for the boyfriend, and veggie lo mein to share. It seemed like all of the tables around us that filled up were ordering the dinner for 2 special. My boyfriend's soup came out and I was told mine would take another minute or two. When the waiter went back into the kitchen, we heard some yelling. At first, we thought it could have just been the waiter yelling to hurry up with an order or something. But after a couple minutes, the yelling continued. Next thing we knew, two workers were at the kitchen door yelling at each other. One of the waitresses went to intervene but the yelling continued. It seemed like everyone in the restaurant was watching the action. The yelling died down for a few minutes, and everyone went back to eating. Next thing I know, my soup comes out. I'm happily slurping my first bowl when we hear the yelling start up again. Our waiter had just gone back into the kitchen and was yelling before the door even closed behind him. Things were getting so out of control a couple members of the waitstaff tried to get involved. After a few more minutes of yelling and scuffling, the action moved into the hallway. We saw one member of the waitstaff try to restrain our waiter. Then he stormed outside. People in the dining area were getting pretty riled up. Most of the older crowd wanted to know what was going on and started asking the remaining wait staff, but they were given no answers. Our waiter returned after a short break with a cut on his hand bleeding hastily wrapped in paper towels from the bathroom. Our dinner arrived shortly after the fight ended. My boyfriend had lost his appetite by then but did eat a bit of his chicken and the lo mein. The home style bean curd was ok, not spicy as was promised, but there was a nice selection of veggies. The rice seemed stale, like it had been sitting around for a while. The lo mein was pretty standard, nothing to write home about. We're glad no one was seriously hurt and hopefully Chang's will work out the wait staff issues so patrons don't feel like they're in the middle of a Jackie Chan movie. read more

I've been eating at Chang's since I was a child! I remember the nice man, whom I believed to be the owner, always giving me a free Brisk Ice Tea with the meal. Since then the establishment has changed ownership, but the quality has not diminished in the slightest. Chang's is simply the best tasting chinese food I have ever had! I've never had a bad experience all these years both in the restaurant and with takeout. The service is quick, and the food can't be beat. If you're eating in, do the "Dinner for 2 (3 or 4)". Tried this place for the first time on my way home yesterday. Called in and order was ready in 10 minutes as promised and was correct as ordered. Lo-mien was packed tight into the pint container as was the pork fried rice. The lo-mien had allot of chicken in it and had a great, not too spicy flavor. the spring rolls were flaky and crisp, packed with vegetables. Best Chinese food in WNY. We went tonight for dinner and there was only 1 worker in the dining room taking orders. Answering the phone and taking care of take out orders. The poor guy was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. He did a amazing job. I overhead someone ask if they were short handed today and he replied "yeah 2 call offs but I got this" and he really did. Food was amazing and service was great. They were very busy and I wish I had gotten this young mans name to name him here but I hope he see's this and knows that his hard work was noticed. The server was the most ignorant, rude and unprofessional server, I have ever encountered, ruined our family Christmas Eve dinner experience. The food was satisfactory, portions were large, but the staff is so bad that no matter how good the food is, it will never make up for their ignorance!!! Yelling across the whole room as customers walk in, "how many" Facetiming while serving, telling us to "hurry up," trying to take our order before he even asked what we would like to drink or if we wanted any appetizers.
