Lovely ambiance (interior is clean and bathroom was nice), prompt service, and the dumplings were UNFATHOMABLY juicy and succulent. I can see why this place has such a good rep!

I have been to Home Taste twice recently. I went for the freshly made dumplings. The first time, I had the fish with leek dumplings, the second time I had the pork with leek & shrimp dumplings. Both are very good. The leek is not really leek, it is Chinese chives. I also tried the cold dishes. The celery with dried tofu skin and stir-fried gluten, dried tofu and peanuts. The gluten dish usually is a Shanghainese dish, but this one they added spicy sauce to it, still tasted good, but not what I expected. Another item I tried was the fried Leek with egg dumplings. I would called that a turnovers or empanadas instead. There were 4 in the order. After I had the dumplings I was already full, but wanted to try the turnovers. I started with one, continued with the second and had to tell myself to stop! I saw a variety of dishes on the menu, but they have a lot of northern Chinese dishes. But the cashier didn't sound like a northerner. She said they are from Fuzhou China, which is a Southern province. But they bought the restaurant from the previous owner who was a northerner. They kept most of the menu. They are doing a good job with the food!

We did take out from Home Taste tonight, which is easily the best Chinese food in the area. Kids agreed. My son doesn't even like Chinese food, but he cleared his plate. Estelle said she wants to go back 5,000 more times. My daughters both ranked the sesame chicken and fried dumplings as their tied favorite. My son liked the rice most , followed by the well seasoned green beans. My favorite was the shredded pork with bamboo shoots. Call in the order, otherwise you pay more for the convenience of online ordering through a 3rd party. Food was ready at my requested time. My son liked going to pick up the meal with me because of the Asian green apple hard candy at the counter. The place has a small eat in area with 7 tables of 2 or 4 tops. For being a small place, it is decorated more than I expected from the exterior view. Canned soda for drink options. No dessert on the menu.

One popular opinion with Asians is that the best Asian restaurants have 3.5 star ratings. The food at Home Taste is amazing but the service was mediocre, which is still fine and adds charm. We had steam dumplings, fried cod, strings beans and pork, and an excellent spicy soup. Mildly rude waitstaff was amusing, and I happen to like the decor.

3/11/21 cash only and closed Tuesday has been crossed off since the last menu pictured 2/2020.

Finally got to try out this authentic Chinese food. No idea what authentic Chinese food is suppose to taste like but this is definitely different than any Chinese food I've ever had. And it was great! We started with pork and napa steamed dumplings (#1). Filling was delicious and the dumpling was the perfect thickness. Sometimes they can be too thick. Then was the shredded pork and green onions in Peking bean sauce (#42). This dish was loaded with pork with the green onions more a garnish on the side. The shredded pork was the consistency of spiralized ground pork, if that makes sense. Excellent dish. My favorite was the stir fried squid with cumin sauce. The squid was cooked to perfection and again like the pork, no skimping on the squid. I would have never thought of squid with cumin but it worked. Neither of these dishes were anything I've had before. Only thing I thought strange is that there dishes are not served with rice though you could order it. Maybe this is authentic Chinese? I saw plenty of other things on there menu that i'd like to try. This will definitely require another visit. Review #300! 2021-35

Came for scallion pancakes. Had a craving after reading about them in a book. They are only doing takeout. Nowhere to sit and wait, you can't even go inside. It's an interesting solution to Covid, and I'll bet highly effective. But the scallion pancakes hit the spot. Update 80 2021

This establishment was created with home in mind. All of the food here is super authentic. Dumplings are excellent, chicken and rice dishes as well. The staff is friendly and helpful with menu items. Great warm dishes for a cozy meal inside. Since COVID, they only do take out

This was my first visit to "Home Taste". I had some of their food at the "Yelpies" so I thought I'd take my son & give them a shot. It's a very small & quiet restaurant. The employees are nice. The place was clean. We looked at the menus while the waitress made us some tea. She was so sweet. I decide to get the Kung Pao Chicken $10.00 My son got the Kung Pao Jumbo Shrimp $13.00 We each got a bowl of white rice $.50 cents each & we split a plate of Chao Mian (chow mein) $8.00. My chicken was pretty good, but my son did not care for his. We both loved the Chao Mian. The portions were pretty small & the prices were a bit high, except for the rice. It was a bit too much money for me, so I probably won't be returning. I wanted to & still do plan on trying new places that I haven't been to yet & I did. (New to me,not necessarily,NEW) Where I go next, I don't know. I'll find out when I get there.

Home Taste seems to be one of Kenmore's best kept secrets. The restaurant is extremely modest and casual. Every single dish I have tried at Home Taste is absolutely delicious, authentic, and extremely reasonably priced. I recommend going to Home Taste with a minimum party of four people. My ideal meal at Home Taste is a family style feast, trying a little bit of everything and splitting it with your friends. The more people at your table, the larger variety of dishes you can try. Favorite menu items: 1. The steamed buns are an absolute must-order. My favorites are the Pork & Leeks steamed buns. 2. The Pork Belly dish with a side of white rice 3. The Fried Eggplant with Pork in a Brown Sauce, with a side of white rice 4. Pork Steamed Dumplings 5. Short Rib & Green Beans *This restaurant does not accept credit cards, cash & Venmo only

The cashier was a little gruff, but the woman running back and forth between the kitchen and the front had a better business sense about keeping customers happy. She didn't want me to wait long, so I think she rushed the kitchen a little bit, which I appreciated, but also may have led to some of the demerits on the food I mention below. I was happy to see one dish I ordered, the pig intestine with fish, on their picture board above the cash registers. That gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing and it was the best dish by far out of the three I ordered. The intestine was fresh and flavorful, the spice level was high, but also not too salty. It was a lot of food. Only drawback here was the fish (tilapia?) seemed to be heavy on the breading. The other two dishes were disappointing. Penang curry with pork had good vegetables, but the sauce had too little flavor since they went too heavy on the coconut milk. The pork seemed like chicken, not pork. Way too soft and flavorless. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun had good noodles and veggies. But the curry powder was not blended in. Eating it, I could still feel it in powder form. It was also far too oily. Overall, I think they had a lot of options but next time I'd steer more towards classic Chinese, since that seems to be what they do well. I hope next time the flavors will be stronger and blended better (i.e. powders actually stirred in). I'm willing to give them another chance, since they do have a lot of dishes I like. Last note: the online ordering service does not indicate that dishes come with rice. I thought they would have rice by default, but then when I added the penang curry to my cart, it asked whether I wanted rice or noodles or something else. So that made me think I had to order rice separately, which meant I had twice as much rice as I needed. It also said "quart of white rice" was sold out, but "pint of white rice" was not, yet the rice that came with my meal came in a quart container.

I ordered the Kung Pao lunch special which comes with a choice of egg roll or soup, and white or vegetable friend rice. I chose the wonton soup and fried rice, and I ordered an egg roll as well. The egg roll came out quickly, and the lunch special was served right when I finished that. The food was good and the dish was spicy (Kung Pao is supposed to be spicy but it never is-- not for me) and the service was polite. When the check came it was accompanied by a plate with two slices of orange and a fortune cookie. The only thing I didn't like about the visit was that there was an advertisement for a big commercial law firm on the back of the fortune slip and the "lucky number" was the phone number. I thought that was tacky. I walked out at 1:15pm. Great, quick lunch.

And a lunch menu. Wow! I just gave my receipt another look and the people are nicer than I thought. I thought they were pleasant, friendly, happy we were there, concerned that we would enjoy our visit. The lunch menu offerings were each $10.95 and included eggroll OR soup, and white or vegetable fried rice. Daughter ordered the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus an appetizer order of steamed dumplings. I ordered Eggplant with Pork in Garlic sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus a small bowl of Hot and Sour Soup. The soup on the appetizer menu was $3.95. My receipt shows the server put the soup as my lunch choice and charged $2.95 for the eggroll. She never said a word, didn't point out that I could save a dollar by switching the sides around. So the people are all I thought plus kind and conscientious. Marvelous. I was delighted with everything I ate. The entree was enough for two, so supper came home with me. The eggroll was fresh and crisp and non-greasy, seemed homemade. Excellent. The eggplant was perfectly prepared and cooked, as was the pork. Delicious. The hot and sour soup was easily one of the best I've had, and I'm always looking for a great hot and sour soup. Coming from downtown Buffalo, we'd been in Williamsville because I had an appointment on Essjay Rd. Afterward, we looked for a place to have lunch before shopping. Finding Golden Hill at 4001 Sheridan Dr. in Amherst was pure serendipity. You can bet, though, that I will visit again after next appointment.

Most places offer me pop as a mocktail or a Shirley Temple at best. Decent pricing.
