Delicious authentic Chinese food if you want to try something new. We have been meaning to stop by and were in the area not too long ago. We ordered lamb with cumin and stir fried boo choy. Both were large portions, flavorful, cooked well and delicious. We weren't sure how the dishes came but they were literally just what was listed in the title. So we ended up sharing for a little more variety. The lamb was juicy and very flavorful. Lots of cumin and cilantro. The book choy was fresh and a nice light palette refresher when paired with the lamb. We can't wait to come back and try more dishes. There are a few tables for dine in. I have been to Home Taste twice recently. I went for the freshly made dumplings. The first time, I had the fish with leek dumplings, the second time I had the pork with leek & shrimp dumplings. Both are very good. The leek is not really leek, it is Chinese chives. I also tried the cold dishes. The celery with dried tofu skin and stir-fried gluten, dried tofu and peanuts. The gluten dish usually is a Shanghainese dish, but this one they added spicy sauce to it, still tasted good, but not what I expected. Another item I tried was the fried Leek with egg dumplings. I would called that a turnovers or empanadas instead. There were 4 in the order. After I had the dumplings I was already full, but wanted to try the turnovers. I started with one, continued with the second and had to tell myself to stop! I saw a variety of dishes on the menu, but they have a lot of northern Chinese dishes. But the cashier didn't sound like a northerner. She said they are from Fuzhou China, which is a Southern province. But they bought the restaurant from the previous owner who was a northerner. They kept most of the menu. They are doing a good job with the food! read more

We did take out from Home Taste tonight, which is easily the best Chinese food in the area. Kids agreed. My son doesn't even like Chinese food, but he cleared his plate. Estelle said she wants to go back 5,000 more times. My daughters both ranked the sesame chicken and fried dumplings as their tied favorite. My son liked the rice most , followed by the well seasoned green beans. My favorite was the shredded pork with bamboo shoots. Call in the order, otherwise you pay more for the convenience of online ordering through a 3rd party. Food was ready at my requested time. My son liked going to pick up the meal with me because of the Asian green apple hard candy at the counter. The place has a small eat in area with 7 tables of 2 or 4 tops. For being a small place, it is decorated more than I expected from the exterior view. Canned soda for drink options. No dessert on the menu. read more

Finally got to try out this authentic Chinese food. No idea what authentic Chinese food is suppose to taste like but this is definitely different than any Chinese food I've ever had. And it was great! We started with pork and napa steamed dumplings (#1). Filling was delicious and the dumpling was the perfect thickness. Sometimes they can be too thick. Then was the shredded pork and green onions in Peking bean sauce (#42). This dish was loaded with pork with the green onions more a garnish on the side. The shredded pork was the consistency of spiralized ground pork, if that makes sense. Excellent dish. My favorite was the stir fried squid with cumin sauce. The squid was cooked to perfection and again like the pork, no skimping on the squid. I would have never thought of squid with cumin but it worked. Neither of these dishes were anything I've had before. Only thing I thought strange is that there dishes are not served with rice though you could order it. Maybe this is authentic Chinese? This was my first visit to "Home Taste". I had some of their food at the "Yelpies" so I thought I'd take my son & give them a shot. It's a very small & quiet restaurant. The employees are nice. The place was clean. We looked at the menus while the waitress made us some tea. She was so sweet. I decide to get the Kung Pao Chicken $10.00 My son got the Kung Pao Jumbo Shrimp $13.00 We each got a bowl of white rice $.50 cents each & we split a plate of Chao Mian (chow mein) $8.00. My chicken was pretty good, but my son did not care for his. We both loved the Chao Mian. The portions were pretty small & the prices were a bit high,except for the rice. It was a bit too much money for me, so I probably won't be returning. I wanted to & still do plan on trying new places that I haven't been to yet & I did. Realize we're going against the majority here, but: We ordered take out, and did not look at our recipt closely until we arrived home. Our bad. The amount was too high. Called the restaurant. They charge a fee for using a credit card if the order is less than $10. Of course, they have no signage to that effect, nor were we told. We would have paid cash; our order was very close to the $10.00. Bad start. We don't like being charged extra without any warning. We had chicken with leek steamed dumplings. In a small-ish city like Buffalo, authentic eats are sometimes hard to come by. I had never had authentic Chinese before getting takeout from Home Taste, and now I don't think I want to go back to Americanized Chinese! We placed a takeout order at 5:30 and they told us our food would be ready at 6. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and helpful in getting us our order! A bun lover, I just had to order the minced pork steamed buns. They were massive! Soft, fluffy, and full of delicious minced more stuffing. Four came in the order so they were well worth it! I opted for the scallion chicken and my boyfriend ordered the chow mein with vegetables. My chicken was delicious: looks can be deceiving because the oil sauce it was served in packed so much flavor. The chow mein was also yummy, the noodles and flavor overall were delicate. If you live in the area and haven't tried Home Taste yet, you have to! Visited the buffalo area and tried Chinese food at this restaurant! Really enjoyed the food options here (all authentic Chinese food menu choices)! This is not a place where you can order sesame chicken or chicken with broccoli cause that's more of an Americanized Chinese flavor. The dishes here reminds me of a home cooked meal by my parents and each taste is a reminder of what true Chinese food tastes like. I highly recommend coming in with an open mind and checking their wall of photos of what their dishes look like if you're confused to what to order. I enjoy the flavors and would come back again when I'm in the area. It's a hole in a wall place, cash only! And definitely worth it. Home taste serves amazing food and they are very organized for order pickup. We tried the scallion pancakes that come with a sweet dipping sauce (really tasty), sesame chicken, wonton soup, and spicy dry fry chicken . The best part was that the wonton soup was homemade/most evident in the fresh herbs in the wontons, along with delicious broth that was much better than traditional Chinese takeout. Another dish to note was the spicy dry fry chicken. This chicken was the unanimous favorite dish tried by the group, and since the peppers are in whole along with the chicken pieces, the dish could be enjoyed by spicy lovers and non-spicy lovers alike. Okay, the ordering (you call from the sidewalk and then wait while they make it) is a little weird. And they gave a 15-minute estimate and took nearly 30 minutes. And the paying with the phone thing was also weird. But it's a Pandemic, and everyone's doing what they can, and I'm all out of anything bad I might have had to say about Home Taste. That's because the food is awesome and cheap. I don't know what "authentic" Chinese is, for several reasons: I'm not Chinese, I've never been to China, and also China is huge so it makes far more sense to talk about regional cuisines, just as it makes more sense to do it that way in the United States. I think this is Northern Chinese (?), but again, I have no idea what I'm talking about. What can be said, definitively, is that this food is so distinct from typically generic Chinese buffet/carryout food that it should be its own category: whatever they're doing it's unique to Home Taste. So, those buns: you'll look at the price and think that you need four, but you don't, because in addition to being fresh and stuffed full of deliciousness (vegetarian deliciousness in my case, but they rage wide), they're the size of a freakin' grapefruit, and if you eat more than one, you're not eating much else. They rock. The stir-fried clams with vegetables are, for me, anyway, worth the price of admission alone. The dumplings are sublime. The menu is huge and can probably accommodate everybody from vegans through conventional omni folk. Home Taste is also a bit hard to describe, because it doesn't use the standard dish names (e.g. general tso, beef lo mein, etc.) and the descriptions on the menu are both sparse and half in Chinese. Bring a spirit of adventure and make a bold choice or two. In any case, I'll definitely do Home Taste again, and maybe even one day be able to grab a meal inside. Carryout will have to do for now. Homemade noodles, dumplings, soups and dishes I am not quite as familiar with but they are described briefly on the menu. Note this is not a restaurant serving typically Americanized Chinese food, but try it. The food is excellent and can be eaten in or taken out. I've done both. I found the string beans to lack flavor, but the chicken was delicious, though a bit oily. Hubby and I first discovered Home Taste at the Yelpies 2020 Lunar Year edition. After enjoying a nice buffet of many of their dishes, we knew we had to visit Home Taste! The restaurant itself is small. Not many people can dine in, maybe 20. But it's nice and I appreciate the labeled pictures of some dishes on the wall. The menu is a little over whelming as everything is written in 2 languages and there's a lot of dishes so the menu is very compact. As for the food, during this visit we had the eggplant and pork which we also had at the Yelpies and it was just as yummy dinning in at their restaurant as it was at the Yelpies! The texture of the eggplant is slightly crispy and oh so good, def try it! We also had the Kung Pao Chicken during our visit and at the Yelpies. It def had more sauce in it during our dine in visit than the Yelpies. It was a bit too much for me as it tasted like Franks red hot sauce and I can't eat spicy foods, but it wasn't too spicy. I just would've preferred less watery sauce. Definitely try Home Taste when you're in the mood for Chinese food! read more

What to get: Dumplings What else: All the dishes are home style authentic but not all of them are good, so far One of many really excellent authentic Chinese restaurants that has been opening up around the Amherst Tonawanda North Buffalo area. The reason why a lot of Clueless yelpers will say it is the only authentic food in town is because they don't really know authentic Chinese food, or because they limit themselves to that which is within the city limits of Buffalo (unless something outlandish happens such as Shake Shack opening up on Transit Road). (Notice the heavy sarcasm.) Some of the dishes here are good and some are not so good. What they do have is really nice service - probably better than most of the authentic Chinese places in town. And really tasty dumplings. Probably the best I've tasted in Western New York. The pan-fried variety are the standout. My first trip here was with a girl who then led me out back to make out in her car. That was f***ing hot. We ordered several different dishes and I noticed the soups were pretty vinegary. I came many other times after that, and the most embarrassing was when I ordered that huge dish (braised chicken or whatevs) that looks so good on the Yelp pix, only to realize it's $20 and is meant to feed a family - not just me. Which was compounded by the fact that I didn't even like it (hides). Nothing else I've had here has been worth writing home about but I've only tried 7 or 8 dishes so I will let you know if I find something other than the dumplings that is worth a glowing recommendation. The other top Chinese restaurants in Western New York serving authentic food along with what to order from them are: Tasty Express (especially Tofu Dishes or Eggplant), Mandarin Garden (especially Chicken Eggplant), Peking Quick One (especially Poached Slices Of Pork and Sliced Fish in Chili Oil), Gin Gin (especially the Chicken Chop dishes), are all wonderful. Crystal (Millersport), 546 Donburi, and China King (Maple & N Forest) also have extensive home style menus, but only the latter is a place I eat regualrly. Anyway I need to go hang out with some Hos, because after all, I have the best Ho Taste. I would know. I mean, do you know any bigger ones than me?
