Really warm people who own the place. We always get extra egg rolls, spring rolls etc. with our order. Lots of vegan, vegetarian options. Classic Chinese food. We ordered a whole lot of dishes on Christmas Eve and very satisfied with their portions. read more

We have been ordering from China Star for years and loved it ..but the last time was not great..we ordered again tonight..my husband again received the wrong food and my sweet and sour chicken was so over cooked it was basically just fried breading..no sauces..I called the restaurant just to let them know and the guy told me I would need to call customer service I said this is a privately owned restaurant..I tried to tell him why I was calling just to say do better and he didn't care, said he was the owner and everyone loved their food..he just didn't care and hung up on me..so no more China Star read more

It was typical... The food was the average Chinese American food. It wasn't by any means bad. It was exactly what I wanted and expected. The sweet and sour shrimp had a coating that was really thick though. Wasn't my favorite but was still good. Delivery came pretty quick and the food was still hot. When I ordered I could hear the phones ringing in the background so they're def popular and busy. I can't speak of the ambiance as I ordered by phone and had the food delivered. read more

Very unfriendly woman answered the phone. She was trying to answer three or more phones at the same time. She was taking orders off of three separate phones and I had to hear it all while she just put the receiver down and took the other orders before me. Other than that the food was average, somehow tasteless -and I won't be ordering from them again. read more

My boyfriend and I ordered from China Star on Hertel for a late night quick dinner yesterday. It was our first time trying this place and we loved it! I ordered Steamed wonton with Szechuan sauce, it was made special because it wasn't on the menu but the worker was able to accommodate my needs ! She was sweet! I order chicken mai fun and it was the best Mai fun I've ever had! We ordered 3 orders of crab Rangoon and the bags were huge!! Next time we will only need one bag lol but we were happy it came in such a great big size ! The crab Rangoon were the best we've ever had from a small Chinese place and they were really filled! I love spicy food and the mai fun and wonton was the perfect spiciness! We will be back again thats for sure!! Thank you China star for accommodating our needs! read more

We LOVE China Star but for some reason they switch their delivery to Door Dash, and no thank you! You have to go on Door Dash site and order through them (horrible personal experience with Door Dash). Pass. The food is so good, portion size is fantastic. We no long go because they don't personally deliver. read more

Everything is good. the prices are reasonable and the service is great. Wait time is great too. it's rare to find places that you can feed yourself these days for less than $20. If you're looking for good food at a good price that won't break the bank. I've never have had a problem with my food and they treat me good every time I eat here. It sad to see people reviews saying some really bad things about them when I've never had any problems with them and the food. Give them a try sometime. So far not so good. So this place was recommended to me by my friend. She claims the crab ragon and fried crab sticks will be to my liking. Hmmm we shall see. She also said all the food here is good. Hmmm that's a very good statement to make. Let's just hope 20 years of friendship doesn't go out the window because of bad food. . My issue is it's not expensive but it is a little bit pricer than I expected and the lady at the counter was rushing me to make my order. I told her I've never been here so please give me a moment to read the menu. NOPE! She persisted asking what I wanted and annoying me. Now our food is ready and she said thank you as if we needed to leave several times. Like uhm lady what's Ure problem and where does customer service kick in. This is ridiculous. I really hope this food is good because so far the service suck rotten eggs. It's horrible. So I'll eat and come back for an update. Alright I forgot to write the update because I was busy busy busy but I'm back and the food was not good. Nothing. It was sub par. It was edible. It looked much better than it tasted and I got three different meals. None of us were satisfied with our food. I got fried crab stick with shrimp fried rice and an eggrol and an order of crab ragoon. uhmmmm noooooo! The crab ragoon showed tiny pieces of crab but tasted entirely like cream cheese. No crab flavor at all. They were cooked very well not greasy but uhmmmm it's a no for the taste. My food was flavorless period! I don't typically add to my Chinese food. It need soy sauce, duck sauce, hot sauce, any and every sauce. The other meals were orange chicken and shrimp fried rice. I was told the flavor was blah. We were all hungry so we attempted to eat it. Hmmmm no suck luck on finishing the food without sauces . I won't be going there again ever! Sorry not sorry read more

Really disappointed by the people who gave this place more than 3 stars. By any standard this is below average Chinese food. The price point is nice, but some components were just not good. The fried rice was bland and executed poorly. The egg rolls were crispy but the filling was lacking any flavor or complimenting texture. The schezwan chicken lunch special was 4 slices of chicken and over cooked vegetables. Which is unfortunate because the sauce was really good. A second mention of the fried rice is important, because it was the worst fried rice I have ever had. Nothing looked appetizing. Nothing worth going to. I have no idea how it has 4 stars on 38 reviews. read more

China Star is our favorite Chinese take out. The food is very good and flavorful. The size of the portions is okay, it comes with more than enough white rice. They have a lot of choices on their menu. The service is friendly and fast. There are 2 small tables, so you can eat in if you want, but the place is not very inviting to do so. But, like I said before, it is a great place for great take out. read more

I've been ordering takeout from here for about 9 years when I moved to North Buffalo, and I'm surprised I never gave them a review. Now that I've moved to Williamsville (so far home of overpriced and under portioned Chinese food), I have to say I miss this restaurant terribly. Ordered takeout yesterday and everything was fresh, hot and fully portioned. Solid hot and sour soup, excellent spring rolls and the best steamed dumplings in town. My wife had the chicken with broccoli and I had the chicken curry. Tender white meat and properly cooked vegetables are the norm here, and last night did not disappoint. The free pork egg rolls (2!) were also on point. Lucky that my granddaughter lives 5 minutes from the restaurant, since I'll be getting takeout from here every chance I get. read more

Best Chinese food in the city. Always ready in 15 minutes or less. I recommend the General Tso's chicken with fried rice!

the food took about 15 minutes to come out of the kitchen, the service was quick and amazing. the steamed dumplings were the best i've had, definitely recommend! the inside of the restaurant was nice and clean as well. the food was well priced and for a full meal for 2 people it was only about $30! i will definitely be coming back!! read more

Let me start by saying that Chinese food isn't my favorite. My husband loves it, he could it eat it pretty much every day. We also have lots of options in the city to choose from. Every 2 months when I agree to Chinese food we go here. The food is always hot, fresh, and cooked perfectly. They always throw in extra egg rolls, and occasionally some of those sugary donut things. The staff is super friendly. They do appreciate it when you can pay in cash. I would recommend to anyone in north buffalo looking for Chinese take out. read more

This place has definitely changed and not for the better. My husband brought home a couple of lunch specials. Every single we ordered was bad, terrible even. Crab rangoons should probably just be called dirty fryer oil cream cheese puffs. Wonton soup is completely flavorless. Just really not good and it's expensive. Unless you enjoy over priced disappointment I would definitely pick another Chinese take out. China star doesn't even deserve a star. read more

In Buffalo, my idea of fast food Chinese is Ming. I know. Not one of the many many "real" fast food Chinese places. Feel free to stop reading now. As a result, I have not been to many of those other places and don't have many Buffalo comparison points. NYC ones yes, but not Buffalo. However, thanks to a recent visit from my brother, who loves American Chinese Fast Food (and lives overseas), we have tried this place a few times. Not going to lie, I still prefer Ming myself. However, our experiences here have been fine. The woman behind the counter is very nice, patient and easy to talk to. The food is ready in a reasonable amount of time, not too fast, not too slow. Sitting waiting for the food (which comes nicely packaged, BTW) is OK. There are seats by the window for some people watching on Hertle. You may see a pedestrian mowed down as they jaywalk to Kostas (next door) from the Walgreens parking lot. I don't understand that jaywalking thing people do, especially with the kiddies and strollers in tow. But you will have a ringside seat of that activity while you wait. And at this corner that activity happens all day and into the night everyday. I have heard her take phone orders and its been done well. Ive seen people come in to pick up their orders, also very smooth. We have had the moo shu pork and chicken both, which we enjoy. Generous servings, you'll have food for a few meals. General Tso chicken was exactly what is expected. The egg rolls have been appreciated. Beef with broccoli probably the weakest dish so far, the broccoli was fresh and cooked perfectly, but the beef was only ok. Downsides: No brown rice No Amex (but they do take Visa and MC) Parking is street or Walgreens read more

In the land of greasy-spoon I-just-want-Chinese-take-out China Star is my favorite in Buffalo so far. There are a few in my area but I like this one the best, and thus the four stars since I frequent it the most. The veggies at China Star always have a good crunch and seem fresh, they seem to use some legit spice, and their egg drop soup has a very pleasant viscosity and taste (I'm all about egg drop). Everything is pretty standard as far as pricing. For me their vegetarian options are more extensive than expected. The setting is a hole in a wall. Not the kind of place you really sit down and eat in as I think they only have two tables in the small front area. It's more so a place to rest your bum and wait for your order to come out, usually 15 minutes from the time it's been placed. Overall I've always been happy with my experiences at China Star. read more

ordered delivery. the food was satisfactory, but moo shu vegetables did not come with pancakes required to make moo shoo. when I called back the order person said they did not have the pancakes at this time. however she did have the time to call me after the order to confirm my address - but not bring the issue up and ask us whether we wanted to change our order. thanks read more

I love love love love Chinese food. I want it all the time. It's my go to take out order, my first choice in any mall food court, and my favorite kind of buffet. Living in the city, there are endless options for my egg roll fix. China Star has been my favorite spot since moving to north buffalo, they are the best around, by far. It doesn't matter what we order- Szechuan beef, sweet and sour chicken, general tso, chicken and broccoli, lo mein, etc all of it is always done really well. And, they have French fries which is the only way i can get my wife to agree to ordering Chinese food. They are super friendly here, we also get extra egg rolls with our order, and sometimes the sugar donuts. They will try to get you to pay in cash, but they will accept cards as well. Best Chinese in north buffalo! read more

Hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant to go to. They are always timely, and food is delicious. The interior is very well maintained and clean. I highly recommend. I'm not usually the type to give reviews but this place is the bomb. Finding good Chinese takeout in buffalo is a challenge but let me save you the time. Fresh, hot, delicious! Copious amounts of food at a reasonable price. This is the best place to order Chinese food around! The general tso chicken is spicy and perfect. You can tell they are using Chinese cooking methods and "traditional" Chinese-American recipes that we have come to love. Know exactly what you want to order because the lady who answers the phone is all business lol. Can't wait to order everything on the menu! Thanks guys. read more

We've been in search of a consistently good Chinese take-out place. We found it here! Their pork fried rice is always full of pork and the rice is tender. I was pleased with the pork slices in the wonton soup too. They often give us extra egg rolls and, on occasion, Chinese donuts with our order. I will say, as much as we like the food, the egg rolls are ordinary, which is disappointing. read more

Your typical cheap, greasy, starchy and Americanized Chinese food conveniently located on Hertel. Had the Vegetable Lo Mein, fried Dumplings and Chicken with Broccoli. It definitely hit the spot. Just imagine this - two girls alone on Valentines Day with a couple bottles of wine and a box full of arts and crafts. Through our misery we both looked up at one another. "Chinese?" I asked. "Hell yeah," says the other. We walked to pick up the order and by the time we were back the both of us dived into the mess, chopsticks first, like it was the best meal on the planet. Comfort food for the brokenhearted? Certainly. Bound to give you heartburn later? Of course. Yum. read more

Ordered take out from here the other night and have to say it turned out well. The Singapore Chow Mein Fun was especially good. A nice taste of Turmeric with spice. House Special Fried Rice was fresh and tasty. Good amount of shrimp. Also General Tso's Chicken was nice and crunchy and sweet. Could have used a bit more heat. Egg Rolls were pretty standard. For quick Chinese takeout this place is a good go to in North Buffalo. My first time ever trying it and I would go back. All in all it was pretty fresh, and large proportions too. Well worth the prices which are normal. read more

The most unusual order of Beef fried rice I have ever experienced. Yes, Maria, I jaywalked across Hertel not once, but twice from the Walgreen's parking lot. Service was efficient and quick. The pleasant woman at the counter asked if I wanted onions (of course!). The price was very low for the amount of food ($6 including tax). It was safely packed and bagged. No utensils or sauce packets were included, as they are all arranged to the left of the counter in a "serve yourself" manner. The food? The rice was bright yellow, and I don't think it was fried. Lots of scallions. The meat was abundant, and I am unsure from what part of the cow it came. Overall, the dish was tasty, not greasy or too salty. I will order it again. I was in a particular state where I needed bed food, so I ate this dish in bed. all of it. and it was darn good. read more

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants! Good prices and really good food. Their General Tso's chicken is the best! I either get that with pork-fried rice or plain lo mein - both are delicious. It was fun to visit this place years ago, when it was newer. But right now, it seems like garbage, and it's sad because it's the only Chinese place in this section of Hertel. We've been ordering from China Star for over 25 years now, and I wish I could say it's still the great Chinese food we were getting when we first moved here. The portions are still large, but unfortunately, the quality has disintegrated. We last ordered General Tso's chicken, beef with snow peas, egg drop soup and wonton soup. The soup's broths are definitely thinner and saltier, and now only 8 wontons to a quart instead of 10. The General Tso's chicken looks like they're still good size pieces of chicken, until you bite into one and realize that they're now all breading. The beef with snow peas should be called frozen snowpeas and carrots from a bag, in a garlic sauce. Very few pieces of beef and what was there was mostly gristle and fat. Soggy, tasteless snow peas and carrots that are obviously frozen, not fresh. This was so convenient for us, just around the corner, but I guess we'll just drive a bit further now to get our Chinese elsewhere. read more
