We are here for Christmas and visiting family in Buffalo. We stopped here to pick up dinner to bring back to our Airbnb. I was happy to find Subgum Wonton on their list as it brings back memories from decades ago from visits to Chinatown with my parents. (Just a tip, the prices on the giant menu on the wall are out of date,lol. They do have plenty of paper menus though...I just found it convenient to read the large menu on the wall) We ordered hot and sour soup, wonton soup, shrimp rolls, tofu and vegetables and Subgum Wonton. The portion sizes were are no different than most of the Chinese restaurants. A small container of rice with each entree. My wonton soup had a nice flavor that was light but good. The shrimp eggroll was the best I've had in a while. Nice amount of cabbage, the outside wasn't hard and I actually found a nice size shrimp inside. My husband enjoyed his tofu and I thought the Subgum Wonton was delicious. A very nice amount of beef, pork, chicken and shrimp and a very nice variety of vegetables. Mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, bok choy and snow peas. The sauce was a brown sauce that went well with all the ingredients. I felt the price of $40 was very fair since this would have easily fed 4 people. The interior was clean and though it was busy ( with take outs) our wait was only about 10-15 minutes. I stopped in last night for takeout. The Singapore Mei Fun is still delicious, as it has been for the past 20+ years. The Beef Ho Fun, on the other hand, was awful. They either left out some of the ingredients, or they think bland is better. I will be calling today to let them know. read more

We used to frequent this spot years ago. This was our first visit back in at least 5 years. They still have a ton of foot traffic and pickups, which is always promising about a business. The food here has really gone down. The service however is good. Due to the recent health review under the info section about rodents I am done. Ordered vegetable mei fun and there were just a couple veggies but loads and loads of dry noodles and bland cabbage. Ribs are just inedible so tough and old. read more

Everyone has that one special cheap Chinese take out which they just love no matter how unhealthy it looks. This place holds a really special place in my heart because it was my go to restaurant whenever I was short on cash while studying at UB. It is located right across the UB south campus and is probably the best Chinese take out place around. This place is like a student's life saver with their low prices and huge quantities. It is a self service restaurant if you want to dine in. The lady at the counter is always super friendly and makes sure the food is exactly how I want it. Coming to the food, here's what I've tried: Chicken/Shrimp Lo mein- The BEST dish they serve here! Tried it with chicken and shrimp and they were both right on point! The sliced chicken prices are huge and so flavorful. Add a bit of sriracha which is kept on their tables if you like an extra kick of spice in your food! Sesame chicken- Another beautiful dish! Not a bad option for weekday lunch near UB South Campus. The Bean Curd with Mixed Vegetables lunch special and the General Tso's Chicken lunch special were both $5.75 each, as of September 2019. The fried rice that comes with the specials is rather sad, since the only vegetable in the rice is onion, but for something less than $6, I'll accept it. I was surprised that the General Tso's was just chicken, and no vegetables at all, but, again, this was less than $6. (My husband says that the General Tso's here is much better than at the Chinese place on UB North, Young Chow). The bean curd and vegetables were also OK for the price paid. China King does offer a more authentic Chinese menu--look at the board with pictures on the side wall. Unfortunately, none of the options are vegetarian-friendly, but I would encourage omnivores to give this authentic menu a shot over the American Chinese menu. We had a hankering for Chinese food takeout, and hit up DoorDash to see who was running a free delivery promo. China King fit that bill, and had a delivery time in under 40 minutes, so we went with it. DoorDash ordering was easy as usual, and communication was good via the app with the restaurant's progress, pick-up and porch drop-off confirmations. Our food was left on our porch within the estimated time frame, all still hot. Our picks were spicy Hunan bean curd and vegetables with white rice, spicy Supreme Mei Fun with pork, chicken, and shrimp, plus we had chicken fried rice, an order of crab Rangoon, and three pork egg rolls. We were pretty pleased with all of our dishes. The portions were very generous, with the entrée dish and rice packed separately, so the entrée box was full. Definitely share-sized or expect-leftovers-sized portions. My dish was the chicken fried rice. It was tasty, good flavor, but I do prefer when the chicken is larger filets and more veggies sautéed into the rice. Still a nice taste, though. My husband was happy with his Mei Fun, it had a satisfying spicy curry flavor. My fave was sampling my daughter's dish, and she liked it too, the Hunan bean curd and vegetables. China King across from UB South Campus is usually my go-to because it's so close to school. Most of the time, I go and grab my $5.50-6 lunch lo mein lunch combo. I usually have a very good experience and have had so much food left over that I can add white rice and save it for the next day. For why I am giving China King 3 stars: the most recent visit was less than pleasant. My friend and I had decided to stop by China King for a quick dinner after a long day at school. We both experienced some very bad stomach problems and we both concluded it was probably our dinner. I had a very uncomfortable night that night. I would probably go to China King again for convenience, but I will definitely be cautious the next time I go. read more

I thought I reviewed this place! Obviously, I'm a regular here (given that it's right across the street from school and they have amazing prices). I usually come here for their lunch special (it's about $6.81 at the time I'm writing this review). I usually get either chicken and broccoli, sesame chicken, chicken with cashew or general tso with fried rice. All really excellent. This is probably the best Chinese food I've had in buffalo and I tell all my friends about this place and bring them here when I can. It has all the typical foods you would find at a Chinese restaurant. I also forgot to mention that their beef lo mein is bomb as well! I've never had a meal that I was unsatisfied with. If you can't make the lunch special they have a dinner combo I get sometimes (a slightly larger container with an egg roll usually with the meat choices I mentioned earlier) and it comes up to about $8.50. Which isn't bad! I'm usually full and have a little left over for either a late night snack or for breakfast lol. If you want above average Chinese food in buffalo!! This is the place to go! P.S. Came here for dinner after visiting Niagara Falls. Small restaurant in not the best area. Prices are low (bowl of noodles with beef for $7) and a good deal, but they cost their dishes very heavily with sauces and seasoning to the point where it's too salty. Most people who eat here are locals who carry out, but we dined in. Food was served on paper plates and we were given plastic utensils- so very informal setting, too. read more

Great service! We had a great experience ordering food from them. They were fast and friendly, we got the food 10 minutes after ordering. Their COVID protocols is in place properly and we were so comfortable ordering food from them and we will do it again and again. We got noodle and shrimp which was so tasty and huge! when i go to Chinese restaurants the only thing I order is the shrimp egg foo yong and shrimp fried rice. I was drawn to this place due to the pictures of the egg foo yong , and the brown gravy on yelp :). brown gravy is a staple when it comes to egg foo yong. it usually means that it is peanut based, which in my opinion is the best gravy for this dish. And the dish don't disappoint. the dish came with 3 patties cooked to perfection, not to crispy and not to soft. Nice round size and plentiful, all for a low price of about ~$8. a steal! in addition the shrimp in the dish was large and not itty bitty! I got a side of shrimp fried rice it was very plentiful and delicious! there were no minuses with this Establishment! I'm not sure about the other items here but I would highly recommend the shrimp egg foo yong and the price can not be beat! read more

The food here is delicious and what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant with Americanized dishes. I've gotten their low mein, fried rice, and combo meals many times in the past and during quarantine as well. Their system follows COVID regulations very well. You can order for pickup and they have your order ready for you in 15-20 minutes packed and ready to go when you say your order number at the door. I don't enjoy the idea of American Chinese food since I am Chinese and eat mostly authentic food. I never had until I started coming here after class at UB. I haven't had a large variety of food here but for what I had, I thought they were just great. Szechwan chicken, chicken&eggplant, orange chicken, chicken wings&fries, spare ribs with black bean sauce, and their fish with tofu. Didn't feel greasy or made me feel like I was going to have a heart attack. Minus the chicken wings and fries but that's a given. This is by far my favourite Chinese restaurant in the Buffalo area. I've yet to have a bad experience and my friends and I have been dining here for years. Aesthetically it's not much to look at; your average Chinese place with the same random and sparse decor. Fairly clean most of the time. They offer hot, brewed tea for free which I've always been a fan of. Their Hunan style tofu is to die for. Crispy, plentiful and served with fresh veggies. Always piping hot and too much for me to finish. I recommend getting it 'extra spicy', though my tolerance for hot food is through the roof. Excellent hot & sour soup. And awesome General Tso's chicken. I've yet to stray away from my faves on the menu, but I'm sure I'll find some new ones someday. read more

My husband and I are in Buffalo every year and we are lucky to stumble on to China King. We have only ordered from the menu on the wall. I think the dishes on the poster on the wall are the more authentic. This time we had fried fish filet with tofu, salt baked chicken wings, salt baked pork chops. All served over rice. Back in the good ole' days, China King offered a $3.25 Lunch special that included an entrée, a side of fried rice (or white rice), and wonton soup. My best friend at the time and I would frequent various locations to get a quick fix lunch. Given the small price for the offerings, China King was a sure fire bet to get your bang for the buck. I'll review my experience of China King based on the various dishes I've had on their lunch special menu. Chicken w/ Broccoli: An abundance of Chicken was served on a decent sized serving of Broccoli. The mildly bold brown sauce for which the application is served contained a slight flavor with notes of salt. Patrons consuming the Chicken w/ Broccoli will find that the abundance of fat in the chicken creates a welcoming balance between the tenderness of the chicken and the softer texture derived from the lard of the chicken. The Broccoli did not contain the earthiness for which this vegetable is known, but it did have a satisfying crunch, with gave the entire application a welcoming textural contrast. Beef w/ Broccoli: Similar to the Chicken w/ Broccoli application, the beef was slightly more tender than the chicken. The brown sauce used in this rendition has more of a potent salty taste, this could be attributed to the marinated of the meat. Sesame Chicken: Perhaps one of the better renditions observed in Buffalo, China Kings version of the highly popular dish is well executed in both texture and flavor. At first bite, patrons will find that the nicely crispy exterior of the chicken has a well balanced textural contrast to the soft and juiciness of the chicken's interior. To further aid in the chicken's flavors, the sauced used in the application had a perfect balance between sweet and savory. China King's Sesame Chicken should be one of the most celebrated renditions of this application as the dish produces a profound comforting feeling during consumption. Beef Chow Fun ($5.25): Not on the $3.25 lunch special menu is the Beef Chow Fun. Sadly, the Beef Chow Fun lacked the potent flavors for which this dish is derived. The noodles were stuck together and overcooked. The flavors of the brown sauce did not permeate into the dish, and the beef was slightly rubbery. Of course, not enough to hinder the experience as the go to $3.25 dishes reinforced the notion that China King is a best bet lunch around the Buffalo area. read more

This place is actually not that bad. It's really close to South Campus so I can easily walk here for a cheap lunch if I didn't pack one. Also, it's pretty light on the wallet. The lunch specials are like $4.20 I think. It has a pretty decent amount of food with white rice or fried rice. If you get it to go, I think you get more food! :D (or maybe the container seems to be bigger than the plate) The taste is actually not bad either as long as you know what kind of sauce to get with what you want (hint hint: garlic sauce). I also love how they give random assortments of vegetables in each dish that you wouldn't expect like massive amounts of broccoli and such in szechuan chicken or something. read more

Let me start off by saying, if I could rate this establishment with 0 stars, without a doubt I would. I put in a simple request to add extra vegetables to a dish. I went as far to state that I would pay extra. After offering to pay extra, I was told no. Who in their right mind would turn down extra money for the simple request to add extra vegetables?
