Crab Rangoon
David S.

We used to frequent this spot years ago. This was our first visit back in at least 5 years. They still have a ton of foot traffic and pickups, which is always promising about a business. The food was ready in reasonable time, considering they were very busy when we went. Everything seemed to be the same quality I remember of it. We will be back again.

Spareribs (tough)

The food here has really gone down. The service however is good. Due to the recent health review under the info section about rodents I am done. Ordered vegetable mei fun and there were just a couple veggies but loads and loads of dry noodles and bland cabbage. Ribs are just inedible so tough and old.

Chicken Lo Mein

Everyone has that one special cheap Chinese take out which they just love no matter how unhealthy it looks. This place holds a really special place in my heart because it was my go to restaurant whenever I was short on cash while studying at UB. It is located right across the UB south campus and is probably the best Chinese take out place around. This place is like a student's life saver with their low prices and huge quantities. It is a self service restaurant if you want to dine in. The lady at the counter is always super friendly and makes sure the food is exactly how I want it. Coming to the food, here's what I've tried: Chicken/Shrimp Lo mein- The BEST dish they serve here! Tried it with chicken and shrimp and they were both right on point! The sliced chicken prices are huge and so flavorful. Add a bit of sriracha which is kept on their tables if you like an extra kick of spice in your food! Sesame chicken- Another beautiful dish! It is sweet and crispy. Shrimp roll- big pieces of shrimp with veggies rolled and deep fried! A bit too oily but still love it!

General Tso's lunch special and Bean Curd with Mixed Vegetable lunch special
Jessica W.

Not a bad option for weekday lunch near UB South Campus. The Bean Curd with Mixed Vegetables lunch special and the General Tso's Chicken lunch special were both $5.75 each, as of September 2019. The fried rice that comes with the specials is rather sad, since the only vegetable in the rice is onion, but for something less than $6, I'll accept it. I was surprised that the General Tso's was just chicken, and no vegetables at all, but, again, this was less than $6. (My husband says that the General Tso's here is much better than at the Chinese place on UB North, Young Chow). The bean curd and vegetables were also OK for the price paid. China King does offer a more authentic Chinese menu--look at the board with pictures on the side wall. Unfortunately, none of the options are vegetarian-friendly, but I would encourage omnivores to give this authentic menu a shot over the American Chinese menu. There's more to Chinese food than the battered fried stuff.

I ordered from Door DAsh tonight, it was nice and hot! We got the general Tso, sweet and sour chicken and chicken lomein. Everything was tasty! The sweet and sour along with the general Tso came with an egg roll and choice of rice.

Hot and spicy chicken

I got the hot and spicy chicken with fried rice. They should name it hot and spicy onions instead. There was barely any chicken in the dish. Very disappointed. 2 stars for the veg egg roll and somewhat okay rice.

DoorDash delivery, with a free delivery promo tonight. Hunan tofu and vegetables.
Tara K.

We had a hankering for Chinese food takeout, and hit up DoorDash to see who was running a free delivery promo. China King fit that bill, and had a delivery time in under 40 minutes, so we went with it. DoorDash ordering was easy as usual, and communication was good via the app with the restaurant's progress, pick-up and porch drop-off confirmations. Our food was left on our porch within the estimated time frame, all still hot. Our picks were spicy Hunan bean curd and vegetables with white rice, spicy Supreme Mei Fun with pork, chicken, and shrimp, plus we had chicken fried rice, an order of crab Rangoon, and three pork egg rolls. We were pretty pleased with all of our dishes. The portions were very generous, with the entrée dish and rice packed separately, so the entrée box was full. Definitely share-sized or expect-leftovers-sized portions. My dish was the chicken fried rice. It was tasty, good flavor, but I do prefer when the chicken is larger filets and more veggies sautéed into the rice. Still a nice taste, though. My husband was happy with his Mei Fun, it had a satisfying spicy curry flavor. My fave was sampling my daughter's dish, and she liked it too, the Hunan bean curd and vegetables. The Hunan sauce was sticky, a bit sweet, with a pleasant mellow heat. Overall, China King hit the spot for our fam'. Prices were comparable to other Chinese takeout, the food arrived fast and hot, and everything was decently delicious. If DoorDash offers up another free delivery promo for China King when we're in the mood for some more Chinese chow, we would definitely order from here again.

Shrimp Lo Mein Dinner combo (Bottom), Sweet and Sour Chicken Dinner combo (Top)
Leeann L.

China King across from UB South Campus is usually my go-to because it's so close to school. Most of the time, I go and grab my $5.50-6 lunch lo mein lunch combo. I usually have a very good experience and have had so much food left over that I can add white rice and save it for the next day. For why I am giving China King 3 stars: the most recent visit was less than pleasant. My friend and I had decided to stop by China King for a quick dinner after a long day at school. We both experienced some very bad stomach problems and we both concluded it was probably our dinner. I had a very uncomfortable night that night. I would probably go to China King again for convenience, but I will definitely be cautious the next time I go.

Shrimp egg foo yong patty with brown gravy. Shrimp fried rice yum!
Mia B.

when i go to Chinese restaurants the only thing I order is the shrimp egg foo yong and shrimp fried rice. I was drawn to this place due to the pictures of the egg foo yong , and the brown gravy on yelp :). brown gravy is a staple when it comes to egg foo yong. it usually means that it is peanut based, which in my opinion is the best gravy for this dish. And the dish don't disappoint. the dish came with 3 patties cooked to perfection, not to crispy and not to soft. Nice round size and plentiful, all for a low price of about ~$8. a steal! in addition the shrimp in the dish was large and not itty bitty! I got a side of shrimp fried rice it was very plentiful and delicious! there were no minuses with this Establishment! I'm not sure about the other items here but I would highly recommend the shrimp egg foo yong and the price can not be beat!

No fortune in cookie :(. But there was a ton of sauce for my chicken and broccoli (almost too much)
Alisa N.

Key points... 1. Food was VERY QUICK and it tasted well 2. A little pricier than other places 3. Clean 4. MINIMUM for credit card use (Illegal)...automatic 4 stars! I'd prefer giving this place a 3.5 as it was a bit more than other places but I like clean so I won't complain too much over cost.

Spicy chicken from special menu- must try.

When they rang me up I thought it was pricey for some "average" Chinese takeout , but now this is my NEW and ONLY spot I'm going to go to! The cashier was a little gruff, but the woman running back and forth between the kitchen and the front had a better business sense about keeping customers happy. She didn't want me to wait long, so I think she rushed the kitchen a little bit, which I appreciated, but also may have led to some of the demerits on the food I mention below. I was happy to see one dish I ordered, the pig intestine with fish, on their picture board above the cash registers. That gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing and it was the best dish by far out of the three I ordered. The intestine was fresh and flavorful, the spice level was high, but also not too salty. It was a lot of food. Only drawback here was the fish (tilapia?) seemed to be heavy on the breading. The other two dishes were disappointing. Penang curry with pork had good vegetables, but the sauce had too little flavor since they went too heavy on the coconut milk. The pork seemed like chicken, not pork. Way too soft and flavorless. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun had good noodles and veggies. But the curry powder was not blended in. Eating it, I could still feel it in powder form. It was also far too oily. Overall, I think they had a lot of options but next time I'd steer more towards classic Chinese, since that seems to be what they do well. I hope next time the flavors will be stronger and blended better (i.e. powders actually stirred in). I'm willing to give them another chance, since they do have a lot of dishes I like. Last note: the online ordering service does not indicate that dishes come with rice. I thought they would have rice by default, but then when I added the penang curry to my cart, it asked whether I wanted rice or noodles or something else. So that made me think I had to order rice separately, which meant I had twice as much rice as I needed. It also said "quart of white rice" was sold out, but "pint of white rice" was not, yet the rice that came with my meal came in a quart container.

I was seated and immediately served complimentary tea, and fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce. I ordered the Kung Pao lunch special which comes with a choice of egg roll or soup, and white or vegetable friend rice. I chose the wonton soup and fried rice, and I ordered an egg roll as well. The egg roll came out quickly, and the lunch special was served right when I finished that. The food was good and the dish was spicy (Kung Pao is supposed to be spicy but it never is-- not for me) and the service was polite. When the check came it was accompanied by a plate with two slices of orange and a fortune cookie. The only thing I didn't like about the visit was that there was an advertisement for a big commercial law firm on the back of the fortune slip and the "lucky number" was the phone number. I thought that was tacky. I walked out at 1:15pm. Great, quick lunch.

Nice people, good food, pleasant atmosphere: because I can never decide which is more important,…read morethey are equally important factors when rating a restaurant. Golden Hill has all three. And a lunch menu. Wow! I just gave my receipt another look and the people are nicer than I thought. I thought they were pleasant, friendly, happy we were there, concerned that we would enjoy our visit. The lunch menu offerings were each $10.95 and included eggroll OR soup, and white or vegetable fried rice. Daughter ordered the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus an appetizer order of steamed dumplings. I ordered Eggplant with Pork in Garlic sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus a small bowl of Hot and Sour Soup. The soup on the appetizer menu was $3.95. My receipt shows the server put the soup as my lunch choice and charged $2.95 for the eggroll. She never said a word, didn't point out that I could save a dollar by switching the sides around. So the people are all I thought plus kind and conscientious. Marvelous. I was delighted with everything I ate. The entree was enough for two, so supper came home with me. The eggroll was fresh and crisp and non-greasy, seemed homemade. Excellent. The eggplant was perfectly prepared and cooked, as was the pork. Delicious. The hot and sour soup was easily one of the best I've had, and I'm always looking for a great hot and sour soup. Coming from downtown Buffalo, we'd been in Williamsville because I had an appointment on Essjay Rd. Afterward, we looked for a place to have lunch before shopping. Finding Golden Hill at 4001 Sheridan Dr. in Amherst was pure serendipity. You can bet, though, that I will visit again after next appointment.

Their lo mein is totally different than when they first opened and I love it now. I got beef the first time, but it comes with very little, so I opted for vegetable the second time. Not a lot of vegetables throughout (mostly on top, as you can see in the photo), but it was really delicious! Both times the lo mein noodles were the perfect firmness and had great flavor. I want it again and again! Matt didn't enjoy his sesame beef. The batter is too thick, and the beef gets completely lost. I like that they will do sauce on the side. We like to toss it ourselves last minute so that it doesn't get soggy. Better for leftovers, too. They do charge an extra $1.50, but they give you a lot of the sauce. The wonton soup is amazing! A small is only $3.95 and it comes with five big pork wontons. Makes me happy because I get wonton soup cravings. I'll definitely be getting this again. The General Tso's Chicken is spot on. The pork egg rolls are good, your typical egg roll. The crab rangoons are also quite good. Their prices are great and the service has always been friendly. I'm so glad we tried again, they're really close by, makes it very convenient. We're definitely going to be frequently returning regular customers. Thanks Golden Dragon!!
