Just got back from Japan and wanted to eat some wor Gau Gee Min, last time I visited it was very tasty with a nice touch of cilantro and lots of flavor, this time it was bland and hardly any flavor and taste? My wife had the lunch plate and it was the pot roast pork was dry and the food was different with no flavor? And the Service was also very slow and if you did not call them they would not check on your table. Was this business sold to someone else or did they change the cook? Our fam's fav neighborhood Chinese restaurant in Kalihi... we used to come here with my Grandma when I was young. Limited parking in front of restaurant, with backup street parking along School Street. There are a handful of round tables inside so call ahead to make reservations. It's BYOB (I suggest bringing your own glasses too). Our party of 10 ordered 8 of our fav dishes and a soup (all single orders) & rice (just for 5). This was perfect as their single orders are a good size (server will insist on ordering double orders but not needed - each won't eat soup and rice). We enjoyed all our fav dishes... especially the shishamo. We left full and completely satisfied. Note: Restaurant will automatically add the 20% tip on the bill for large parties. Last minute dinner... After work deals and I needed to pick up a T-Mobile Tuesday item and since I was in the area checked around to find Golden City Restaurant that was just down the street made it quite convenient considering there's so much options in the area I was just craving some Chinese cuisine and came at the perfect time for early dinner take out as they have just a few stall to park right along side the building. Walking in I wasn't quite impressed with the entry area as it leads right to the service area and counter filled with various snacks it just felt quite cluttered though knowing that they had a yellow placard posted the very same day as my visit they were in the midst of resolving the problems I'm hoping as it's a great location. I got a peek into their dining room and was quite stunned to see purple covers for all the chairs which isn't quite my vibe but did order "Beef Chow Fun w/Black Bean Sauce" take out for dinner and let me tell you it smelled so delicious that I had to take a peek and was am so impressed of the load of veggies they included it was all good and could barely finish half of the plate, very generous portion at an affordable price. Stopped here a few times but only for take out. Of all the times I've been there, I've only seen people dining in once. I've picked up at all different times from lunch to dinner hours and they always pick up the phone and usually only take 15-20 minutes no matter how big or small the order is. There is lots of seating indoors but not sure how they would accommodate if they were truly busy as the parking lot only holds so many cars connected to a gas station. But you can't miss it right on the corner. So far so good the food I've ordered has been to my liking. I actually prefer their duck over other places I've tried, it's consistently meaty, tasty and juicy. I do also like their combo plate, it offers such a variety of food for an affordable price. I was craving salt and pepper porkchops land saw that Golden City Restaurant was just down the street from where i was. I'm sooo glad i decided to stop by. It did look like it was closed but only because Texaco was renovating so it took up a lot of their parking space. I came in at about 5:45pm and it wasn't busy at all, they mainly had takeout orders. I ordered the char siu fried rice, salt and pepper pork chops, & shrimp with walnuts. The food came out fast and I was very impressed with each of the plates we ordered! My favorite part is the salt and pepper pork chops, it was crispy and garlicky, fried to perfection. The shrimp with walnuts were good and saucy, although i do wish they added just a tad bit more honey but other than that, the shrimp pieces were big and crispy too! The fried rice was yummy and the char siu in there was juicy and flavorful. The employees are friendly and efficient! I can't wait to come back again and try some of their other dishes! read more

I've been in the restaurant industry for 6 years or so. I gave 2 stars because this place was close to my heart. Maybe I shouldn't have come in an hour before closing. Rude service I can let it slide. I was forced not to share one of my dishes just because of a separate check (we were a small party. I really wanted to share the food because one of our party never ate there before. I'm glad I didn't share it; the baby corn seemed to taste off like it was nearing its throwout date (FIFO; first in first out) I was skeptical so I tried another piece; same musty pungent taste. I didn't bring it up since why bother? I picked it out and put it on a trash plate for the duck bones. I used to come here as a kid and usually tip 25% as now I'm a regular for other dishes. The check came and they included an 18% tip. Usually places make sure you don't share but those are AYCE and per person. Most restaurants don't include tip unless you're a large party; we were a small party. I'm just sad the restaurant I grew up with has come down to this new low; probably time to go to another place. read more

Scammers! Sorry, I didn't want to put negativity out there during the holiday season but beware. My aunt is visually impaired (blind and walks with a cane). My uncle, is in his mid 80's and just signs credit card slips without looking. The restaurant not only added a three percent credit card service fee but an 18 percent gratuity on top of the said three percent fee AND Hawaii GET (making the gratuity just shy of 20 percent). This was for a TAKEOUT order. Taking advantage of the disabled and elderly. Shame on you!!! read more

LOVE this place!!! Everything is good but I looove their dim sum options! And their soups are all delish!!

Food was great but service was terrible. At the end, waitress said she forget to charge the tip and I said you don't deserve a tip your service was terrible. No excuse only had our table and another table. Which that table was waiting on rice and water. The fried rice here was LOADED with char siu! I've tried three restaurants in Kaneohe and all of them were very disappointing. The char siu was shredded and sparse...All rice; no meat. I'm sorry, but I judge a Chinese restaurant by how well they make their fried rice and this place hands-down is the best I have had recently. Great as a go to for takeout, They have a variety of rice plates n addition to the normal fare. Lots of seating but not the greatest for attention from the servers. But the food is delicious! They have decent parking parking with street parking as needed. They also have an array of crack seed. They're King Sweet Li Hing Mui is the best! Ample seating inside. I remember when the previous owner at Golden City the service was really good and the food was delicious and not very salty. Now they have a new owner and now everything is going downhill. The ambiance is okay but the food and service was bad. I ordered takeout of hot and sour soup and char siu fried rice. The menu stated that both my items cost $14.95 each but my total ended up being $36.10. It seems that i was charged an 18% gratuity with an add on of 3% credit card service fee. I ended up paying because i was hungry and i wanted to leave as soon as possible! The char siu fried rice had a good ratio of char siu and rice but way too salty. I've been here numerous times over the last 40 years. This has been the worst experience ever. I miss silver dragon and Liu's. Ordered a bunch of food for Chinese new year and this was the crispy roast pork. It was probably some old roast pork that was re-fried and left in the oven. There was pieces that were so dry my fork barely pierced it. And others that were like raw hide pieces for my dog. Then when we brought up the issue with the food they only apologized and we were still expected to pay for it. Then after discussing it they stated they would take it off the check. When we got the check we were still being charged for it. They used the disclaimer of the menu "prices subject to change" also being your own take home containers because they will bring you two at a time and charge you 50 cents a container.
