OK, I called in a take out order for green curry with tofu. They asked what kind of rice, I said none. Then the lady said "Ala Carte then!" I said no rice and ok. I go to pickup the order and when they receipt is flashed on the pad, it says "Ala Carte fee" $1.99 or something close to that. I saw it, but it didn't register to me..... I pressed the no receipt like a dummy and now I want to look at the charge. I researched this and YES, they charge you an extra fee for "Ala Carte". I mean.... what????? The food is fine, their extra charges are not. NOT RECOMMENDED due to these extra charges being put into your bill. Please stop this! Or inform us about the charge. And people, please check your charges later, I have been overcharged by a known restaurant by 2x! read more

Love this place! Its clean, spacious and welcoming. The owners are so sweet and always have smiles on their faces. The food is ono (delicious) and the service is great. The prices are worth it and I love going there day or night time. They also have good Thai tea! I travel from Waimanalo to go there. read more

With something like 15 years, I believe, of coming here, this place, like many, has had ups and downs with employees, and the parking lot can be challenging, but the food has ALWAYS been spot on. Three words: Cashew nut chicken. It is the sauce. 100% heaven sent. Each time I order, eat and go to leave I feel I am forgetting to hug the chef. Ordered all of our same favorites including tapioca cups. The spring rolls, yellow chicken curry and the tapioca's were still awesome. Few things that didn't go well: As I was waiting for my food, the worker was putting my order in their paper bag with handle. Informed her that I brought a bag so she took it out and passed the food to me to pack it myself...no customer service. The food was really hot so I took the bag she was going to give me so I could put the tapioca cups in to separate it from the hot foods. She told me the bag cost $.25. Wha?! My order was almost $50 AND she was planning to give me the bag in the first place but yet she wouldn't mind upsetting me now by wanting to charge me for the bag??? WOW... When I opened the yellow curry containers at home, it didn't have the sticky rice I ordered. I looked at my receipt and thankfully, she didn't charge me for it but was disappointed because I really enjoy eating the curry with sticky rice. There are a few Thai restaurants close to where I live but I choose to travel almost 10 miles away to pick up from Bangkok Chef because the food is GOOD but since the customer service was BAD, I'll try again. We ordered takeout from Bangkok Chef for dinner and everything we got was solid. We had the chicken pad Thai, chicken satay, and chicken larb. I only had a bite of the pad Thai but it had good flavors. The chicken satay was very good I'm glad they used chicken thighs because it made the meat juicier and more flavorful. The larb was tasty too, full of flavor and herbs, though it seemed like they forgot to include the cabbage or lettuce to eat it with. Overall, not a bad spot at all to get your Thai fix. Wow, this restaurant made me love Thai food! Their beef noodles tasted other wordly!! And their beef yellow curry was amazing too! Definitely recommend getting sticky rice with the curry. Fish paties aka cart and the bamboo chicken where good sides to add diversity to the family dinner but out of all the dishes I'd say the yellow curry with sticky rice and the beef noodles are must tries!! Plenty of tables and seats indoors. You have the option of being seated and the server will come to take your order or you can order straight from the cashier's counter. Food is warm and tasty. I added broccoli to panang curry with chicken...potatoes, and red peppers. Good combo, $3.50 extra for a good amount of broccoli. Of course, chicken fried spring rolls was excellent. One serve and very attentive, insisted I tried mango ice cream with sticky rice. I asked for no sticky rice...good tasting! Service is terribly rude here. Calling me "insane" for wanting to refund my friend for desserts that I wanted to pay for myself and had verbally told the cashier IN ADVANCE that I would pay for it. But instead she charged it to my friend... that was the first mistake she (the cashier) made. The second mistake was instead of apologizing and smoothing things over with me (as the customer) you call me insane for telling her to refund my friend so that I could pay for it myself?!! B.c. can work on their customers service 100%. Because clearly the girl taking my friend's order wanted to irritated people that day rather than appease customers by wording her interactions the way she did and I was not going to take her choice of words or unfriendliness as her response to us. And also her choosing not take my request to pay into consideration in the first place and just letting my friend pay for it was UNACCEPTABLE. Thai food can be spicy and my tolerance level is on the lower medium level. I want to enjoy what I am eating without sweating ( it rains down perspiration when it's really spicy ) and swearing. First visit to the N. Nimitz Hwy locale, situated on the ewa end of La Tour Plaza. I requested takeaway on my initial visit and got the Yellow Curry with tofu...you have a choice of tofu, vegetables, chicken, etc. I asked for a mild spice level and I was thankful that I was cautious, as it was hot enough to enjoy and not pour down the perspiration. On this second occasion, I picked up the Papaya Salad. This was a bit spicy...I was not asked about the spice level, so I think there isn't a customizable level for salads. It was ok...I think I've only had a couple of green papaya salads and can't say I am big fan, just to throw that out as a caveat. Wait time was very good on both occasions. Dining area is spacious with a high ceiling. Bench for customers waiting to pick up their takeout orders at the left. Parking...it's La Tour Plaza...but there are a few dedicated stalls for Bangkok Chef in front of their entrance. read more

Today at 6:45 p.m i called 3 times to order takeout at Bangkok Chef on Nimitz & all i got was 10 rings and a hang up. I didn't get to try the food but i really dislike restaurants when they don't pick up the phone & shortly later you get a click like they hung up. The ambiance is a little scary with less fortunate people hanging around but it's very sad that i didn't get to try the food. read more

Have been frequenting *a* Bangkok Chef for years on & off. This time a friend was picking up food for us from the Nimitz location. I decided to try the Lemongrass chicken for the first time. I got about 6 (smaller) pieces of marinated chicken thighs, grilled; sliced cucumbers; a huge mound of jasmine rice; and a container of their sweet sauce (which I associate w/ their super ono spring rolls). Chicken was oversold to me by a friend. It was good-ish, tender-enough, but lacking a little more flavor from the marinade. I guess my go-to order will stay a #5 chicken fried rice or #1 pad thai, and some spring rolls. read more

This is my wife's go to place for Thai food. They are fast and efficient and the food is always delicious no matter the time of day we order take out. About the only negative comment is about the location, a busy area near Costco Iwilei. Skip Dillingham and use Nimitz Hwy to avoid the rail construction. read more

Wanted something soup or curry ish as it was raining and ended up here. Got my go to panang curry with chicken and sticky rice... It was just okay. The flavor wasn't there and the rice seemed old. Will not be back anytime soon as there are other Thai places in the area that are better. read more

Ordered takeout for dinner on a weekend. The quality of some of our food order was subpar - the chicken sateh appeared to be old and microwaved because the sliced cucumbers in the container was warm and yellow-tinged on its edges, and the peanut sauce plastic container was warped (and I don't think that kind of plastic was meant to be microwaved!). The pad see ew we ordered was flavorless, and the broccoli that came with it also appeared old - it was dry and yellow instead of a crisp green, and it was tasteless. Our other half of the food order was decent, hence the 2-star rating. We have had food here before - both dine in and take out - and have had good quality foods those other times. Nothing like this recent experience. It looked like the food was made hours ago and then was reheated. This experience is making us reconsider coming back which is sad because this is one of our go-to for many years now. read more

My family was nearby getting a few things and found this restaurant for dinner. It was a great find as we all enjoyed our meal and service was great. There is parking out front in this shopping area location although the signs in front of each parking spot make it challenging to know where to park after sunset. We were promptly seated in this large, high ceilinged restaurant. The acoustics made me want to sing something although it was fairly quiet overall. The menu is quite extensive and overwhelming to where my wife needed extra time to think about her choice. I had the sweet and sour chicken with rice that was delicious. My nephew who doesn't care for broccoli had the broccoli with chicken dish and ate all the broccoli right away. He thought it was prepared so well that it didn't even taste like broccoli. Yes, very strange. All meals were reasonably priced around $10-15. I also had the Thai tea with milk that I try to have when visiting a Thai restaurant. The service was phenomenal. Our server kept the glasses filled, the plates coming and going as needed, and made sure all was good. We will likely be returning again. A great find. read more

There's ample parking in the front and lots of tables to dine in. The take out option is also very quick and they've certainly done their marketing with quick treats by the register. We had the papaya salad and summer rolls with tofu. The shredded papaya was thin enough and not hard to chew. The fragrance however of the sauce was a bit fishy though. We loved the summer rolls because it was a nice balance of ultra thin noodles, crisp veggies, herbs, and flavorful dipping sauce. Treated ourselves to their sweet potato tapioca pudding for dessert. Perfectly textured and not overcooked. Love that they offer a nice variety of unique canned beverages. Tried the grass jelly drink for the first time and it wasn't bad at all. In case you're wondering....the Chinese mesona is a common plant in the mint family and is filled with antioxidants. Came here for some nourishment after working on black Friday and doing some black Friday shopping at Best Buy. Located in the same complex as Party City on Nimitz there is usually ample parking in their shared lot. I only ordered one dish: Thai beef noodle soup. There's definitely a lot of similarities to pho. I found myself looking for Hoisin sauce but had to stop myself. I found the broth to be very full of beef flavor. Enjoyed the cilantro and green onion topping which gave it a freshness. Service was prompt and she returned often to fill my water and check on me. Was too full or I would have gotten dessert. Stopped at one of my favorite go-to Thai food places yesterday. You won't be disappointed with the food. Been here several times - dined in a couple times pre-covid & post covid take out. Located in the same building as Tanaka Saimin next to the 7-Eleven. Plenty of free parking, you just need to be sure to park in the space designated for Bangkok Chef. There is a security person that keeps watch. There's about 3 - 4 spaces right in front of the door & more in the back row along the fence. I called in my order, girl said it'd be about 10 minutes. I was nearby so by the time I got there & parked, my order was ready. Restaurant was empty except for 1 table, it was about 1:30PM. Like other restaurants, they haven't come back to full capacity yet with returning customers. The restaurant is very clean, employee was friendly & efficient, speedy takeout service. My favorite dishes are the green chicken curry & the pork panang curry. Decided to try the yellow chicken curry since I hadn't eaten it before. Wow! This was just as good as the other curries. They use chicken breast meat, which is great since other Thai places use chicken thighs. I ordered ala carte which came in a large container. I was impressed with the ratio of chicken to veggies. Usually it's the other way around. There were chunks of potatoes, sliced carrots & onions. The curry had just enough heat where it wasn't overly spicy. The overall dish was quite flavorful & tasted freshly made. The chicken was in bite size pieces, tender, & not dry from over cooking. I highly recommend eating at this location. read more

Oh I just love noodles of any kind and since I was on the area and heard many great things from here I finally decided to give it a try. Currently they're doing only take out and I got yes Pad Thai and informed of my shellfish allergy which they politely noted. They have a bench you can opt to sit while they prepare your food is a nice option to take advantage of. Was surprised when I got my order...it's huge! I didn't finish it all you can barely tell I ate any of it lol but it was delicious. It's not saucy of course but not the drier type of noodle I'm used to but no complaints at all I'd have it again in a heartbeat but will bring a lunch buddy for assistance. read more

Following up on my COVID ordering in series, today, I ordered delivery from Door Dash and subscribed for my first month of free delivery with them. Thai food sounded simultaneously healthy and like it would it the spot after cardio day. Generally, my preferred order is red curry with sticky rice, but I decided to branch out a bit today and go for panang curry. I've had it a couple times at different locations and had a good experience, so today's order was chicken panang curry with sticky rice, and thai tea. The positives: compostable dishware, packaging was very compact and didn't feel wasteful. The thai tea was sweet and flavorful, still decent amount of ice by the time it got to me, all in all the star of the show. Plenty of goodies in the curry - a larger amount of chicken than I usually see, potatoes were well cooked and plentiful, red bell pepper added a vibrant contrast. The negatives: I just didn't like the panang curry. It was very nutty in flavor (I'll be honest here, not sure what panang curry is made of, but this one seemed more peanutty than usual). Normally, I relish the leftover curry sauce on the sticky rice, but the sticky rice also fell flat in flavor. I'll give the restaurant another chance in the future with either a red curry or a soup, but I just didn't enjoy the pnanag. Lucky news for my roommate, who will be eating the leftovers! read more

I've never been to this location before. I didn't even know it was here. It's was dinner time. What to eat? What to eat? Driving... we see Bangkok Chef. Perfect, let's eat there. Inside is spacious. Seating is against the wall on the perimeter of the restaurant. Seating is a little close to each other. We ordered the green curry with jasmine rice, pad Thai with shrimp, mango salad and mango ice cream w/ coconut sticky rice. The service was pretty fast. The flavors of each dish were spot on. Soo good! I would definitely be back to each their 'ono food. read more
