I stopped by to pick up some lunch during the week. Upon entering there was a good amount of people waiting for their food, but no line at the counter. They took my food order pretty quickly and only waited a few minutes for my food to be ready. I got a mini fish jun. It was seasoned well and cooked perfectly to my liking and the sauce worked great with it. The only downside was that the rice was a little oily since the fish jun was placed on the rice right after cooking, but since this is more of a quick service plate lunch type of restaurant, I don't mind and appreciate the quick turn around on the service much more. This restaurant is located in Kapalama Shopping Center so there is a lot of parking in the front. Since there is a lot of road work on Dillingham, it may be easier entering the parking lot from the back. Went to Costco Iwilei and my husband suggested Korean BBQ for lunch. Wanted to see if there was anything new in the area, as we always eat at the usual places. Found Ono Korean BBQ on Google and decided to give it a try. It was about 12:30pm, but surprisingly it wasn't busy at all, in fact there was no one in the restaurant. I definitely expected we'd hit some kind of lunch rush. Upon entering we were greeted. The lady behind the counter was friendly enough. I ordered a regular spicy chicken wings and spicy pork combo plate, and my husband got a regular fish jun and BBQ chicken combo plate. The prices are about average as other places we've been to, for both mini and regular plates, but what I loved were the selection of sides!! They had the usuals like mayo and shoyu potato, corn, kim chee, chop chae, bean sprouts and mac salad....BUUUTT they also offered vegetable tempura, korean pancake, and fish cake! That was awesome! Solid Korean diner. Ono Korean BBQ is situated on the mauka side of the Kapalama Shopping Center. I've eaten their food twice and can say it is comparable to most Korean style diners. Plate lunch prices are reasonable...offering a mini and regular servings. Previously, I had their regular Meat Jhun takeout plate. It was alright. The beef was of a thicker cut than most places. Sauce was okay. Subsequently, I had a mini Kalbi/ BBQ Chicken Combo Plate: which was good. If you're moderately hungry the mini plate will fill you up. Kalbi was tender enough. I'm happy to report that this little Korean restaurant really lives up to its name! We've been there multiple times now and I will happily say the food is Ono! I've had the meat jun, spicy pork, bbq chicken and bi bim kook soo. Everything was delicious but what really makes this place better than others that I've been to is there really good variety of sides. They have like 16 choices! And they include chop chae, vegetable tempura, potatoes, tofu, something that taste like vegetable pancake and many more! If you don't mind the construction on dillingham this is one of the better places for cheaper Korean take out. The banchan usual suspects are: seaweed, cabbage, kimchee, cucumber kc, daikon, hotdog, pancake, veggie tempura, shoyu or mayo potato, tofu, chop chae, broccoli, corn,cabbage, bean sprouts, & fishcake. Whattt??? This is the stuff I need to know. They have ample parking shared with zippys and the likes. The ladies here are really nice. I'm not a meat Jun expert but is it not fair to compare their meat Jun to Young's Kalbee (Aiea) , Sam's Delicatessen (Nuuanu) , Gina's (Kapahulu) & Soon's Kal Bi (Salt Lake) to name a few. The meat was paper thin so you couldn't taste the beef and the egg wash tasted like it had mochi batter. I went to the Dillingham Zippy's for lunch and decided to buy our dinner from here since they're in the same complex and because I enjoyed their food many times where the workers were friendly and helpful but this time, the person helping me did not greet me or crack a smile. Not a good feeling... I noticed that the prices went up as expected but she was stingy with the veggie sides. I believe they should know that there's a lot of Korean food places that serves double of what they do. If they keep this up, their customers will start patronizing other Korean restaurants. I will come back here again when I'm in the area hoping their customer service improves and side dishes are less stingy. A suggestion for this place because I care: With all the competition out there, you should feel grateful that you have customers. It's because of them that you'll be successful. They're a solid pick in the area, pretty decent choices for banchan, including a few unique picks like hot dogs and onions, fried tempura veggies, and some other kind of fried pancake thing. We stuck to the veggies this time tho. Their ono special plate is $16.95 (pictured) is a pretty good sized portion that's easily 2 portions. Their meats are the standard seasoning and quality. If you want to fill your belly and not spend a lot, this place fits the bill. Points to them for being open til 7 on Sundays. This might be a personal preference of mine but in my opinion Ono Korean Barbecue is best of the fast food Korean BBQ places (Peppas, Yummy, Pearls, etc). Their portions are around the same size but the food is better and I prefer their choice of veggies more. Most places tend to serve mostly the same 8-12 veggies but at Ono they have stuff like tempura vegetables, daikon kimchi, broccoli and usually give an extra fish cake (I think it's fish cake) on the side. Only downside is that they're closed Sundays but otherwise they're my preferred Korean BBQ place. Don't sleep on the spicy pork. read more

First time trying this place and it's all because my 90 year old mom changed her mind and no longer wanted to eat at Zippy's. I pointed to the sign and asked "do you want to eat Korean"? She goes okay. Got my husband the spicy pork, mom got the mini beef and I got the mandoo kook soo. My husband said the spicy pork wasn't that spicy. The cucumber kim chee was spicer than the pork. He said all the sides I had picked were really good. He especially liked the pancake (not sure what it's called). My mom really enjoy her mini beef and she loved the two sides that she picked. She said really enjoyed the broccoli. My mandoo kook soo was a little sad. They asked if I wanted it spicy, medium or mild. I went with mild and to be honest it didn't have any kick or tickle to it at all. I ended up putting a big tablespoon of chili oil and it made it so much better. I will try it again but I am going to ask for spicy and see if it really is spicy. Overall it pretty good. Both my husband and mom want to try more things on their menu including different banchan. The lady that took our order wasn't the smiling type but she was kind with my mom who couldn't decide on her banchan and took a bit longer to choose. That I appreciated very much. If I'm looking for quick and affordable Korean Food BBQ, I come to 'Ono Korean BBQ. Food: They have a variety of side dishes!! A few of my faves are the Korean pancake, long rice and tofu (I know, I've been told that I'm quite vanilla). They have many others, such as vegetables and hot dog and onions. I've had their meat Jun and mandoo kook soo, spicy and enjoyed them both. They have a nice variety of soup and noodles which I enjoy eating often. I enjoy the vegetables in their soups as it's not something I eat often. Their bbq chicken is bone-in, which isn't the usual at most Korean bbq places. I think their portions are great. Overall, the food is tasty. Prices: They are definitely on the more affordable side compared to others. Their quality of food is good and I've never had any issues with any of my dishes. Someone picked up lunch so don't know how the actual facility is...but the food wasn't very good. Got the seaweed soup. Pretty good. Big container, choke seaweed, itsy-bitsy piece of tough scrap meat. No sense even put it in. BYOMeat. The banchan was not good. Only "Korean" place that does not let you sub out rice for another veggie. They even wrote me a long note on my styrofoam container (wait, aren't we not supposed to use styrofoam anymore?). So they gave me rice. Hot dog and Onion is a weird banchan...so I ordered it. I thought maybe they would do something fancy, but it's literally hot dog and a sliver of onion. I like hot dogs so that was ok. Their "egg" patty was like a bad pancake...I kept eating it cuz I was trying to figure it out. I should have stopped and saved myself those calories. Cabbage had no taste. The broccoli was good...but it's broccoli. They give sooooo little bit. I guess I'm used to places where they can barely close the container. Hubs got the meat jun. My fiancé and I actually stumbled upon Ono and I'm so glad we did. FWIW, I used to grow up on Yummy's Korean BBQ, so I was super familiar with the concept. But given that my fiancé has not experienced a fast food Korean local joint, I was excited to share this with him, and try this place for myself :) The place is located in a normal strip mall on Dillingham, and surrounded by other businesses and food joints. When you walk in, you'll noticed a bunch of table seating, a giant menu posted on the back wall, the ordering station right in front and a glass case full of sides/banchan. The prices vary depending on what you order, and the sizes of dishes. For our meals, we got the following: - The Kalbi/BBQ Chicken combo (#11) regular size for $20.45. BRRRUUUHHHHHH. This was so good! The bbq chicken was nicely marinated and grilled to perfection. They used a butterflied thigh so was juicy and not dry at all. The kalbi has to have been some of the best I've had. So flavorful and lots of meat on the bones. The only gripe I have about this was the portion of kalbi; I felt like they skipped out on portion just a bit - The Chicken Katsu plate (#7) regular size for $14.75. My fiancé said is was one of the best chicken Katsu he's had. Coming from someone who eats katsu every week, I need to try it. It was super crispy and seasoned nicely. REALLY REALLY GOOD. - For our sides, each regular plate comes with 4 choices: we got a combination of macaroni salad, bean sprouts, shoyu potatoes, and jap chae (glass noodles). These were good banchan; I personally think this is where I prefer Yummy's a bit more. The Mac salad was good but just a little tangy for my preference. The shoyu potatoes could have been marinated more so the flavor was darker and richer. For the japchae and bean sprouts, they were standard and good! I've often wondered about this Korean fast food joint in the Kapalama Shopping Center. My goal of eating at every single business at the Kapalama Shopping Center is now completed, as I finally made it to Ono Korean BBQ! Ono Korean BBQ reminds me of your typical fast food Korean joint like Peppa's or Yummy's. A few things I liked about this place - 1. Service was friendly, as the Korean lady who took my order greeted me, and thanked me when I left the joint. 2. Upon placing my food order (I got the BBQ Chicken plate) the food came out pretty fast, and the chicken pieces had the "bone-in" on the meat. Usually that's a good sign, as when the bone is left with the meat, there is more flavor. 3. The restaurant was well lighted, and clean. There were about 6 small tables, a long "bar type' table, & 2 large tables inside the restaurant. 4. Prices for their regular plate were pretty reasonable at - $10 bucks + some change. Portions of the plate were pretty good too. Now the things that I thought was a miss about this place - 1. Overall, the marinade of the chicken was lacking in flavor & bland. I've had better tasting BBQ Chicken at Yummy's or Soon's. 2. I guess I got here on the later part of the evening (around 7:30 - 8:00 PM, they close at 9:00 PM), and when it came to choosing my sides for my plate, a lot of the sides had run out, and there was limited choices.
