My family and I have been coming here for a while but I think the food has been a bit of a hit or miss. We get the pork belly cabbage wrap pretty often, but the most recent time we came I felt that the portion of both pork belly and cabbage were kinda skimpy and the pork belly was quite dry. It used to be better, but I think recently the quality of some foods has been going down. In addition, we ordered the beef tofu soup combo with fried mackerel and salad. I think the tofu soup was fine, but I've had better at various other Korean restaurants. The fried mackerel was not bad albeit a little dry. I also think the dishes are kind of expensive and not that worth it. Overall, I don't feel particularly strong in any way about the restaurant, but they have had some dishes in the past I've liked such as the oxtail soup and hot stone bibimbap. read more

The bibimbap is good. I liked the sauce that you can squeeze out onto it. Makes the food spicy. They have music videos playing on a TV that you can watch. They have some side dishes that comes with any entree you order. They are shared with others at the table. I don't like their tofu soup very much. We have been there several times and we're happy with the food. Went there today for lunch and the place is very quiet. A grouchy old man who spoke very broken English was in the front. He spits all over when he spoke so I had to move the water glass away and decided not to touch it. When food came out and I felt the rice, it was cold. I knew it is dangerous to eat warm cold rice so I told the old man. He started to argue and became angry. He grabbed the rice with his bare hand, smashed the rice and screamed " It is not cold". At that time, we knew we are dealing with a mentally not right person. Who would grab good with bare hands from customers plate? Hot stone Bulgolgi bimbimbap is always a staple when I order here. It's a great mix of veggies , meat and carbs. Always beautifully presented with julienned carrots and zucchini, sprouts, gosari namul, spinach, beef and topped with an over easy fried egg so that you can break it and have it spill over the food. Add the gochuchang sauce to add a bit of spice and elevated taste. Kimchi tofu soup is another go to with a slight mild. For those not looking for spicy I recommend the tofu and beef soup or whatever selection you choose with the white broth. The smell of the broth reminds me of thanksgiving in the best way filled with tofu, green onions, one egg and beef cut up in baby cubes. The ban Chan was okay. Our go-to's are usually the kimchi pancake, Green onion fried chicken (comes with a delicious wasabi dip), sweet and spicy fried chicken, seafood tofu soup & galbi combo, and occasionally the bosam (pork belly wraps). Wow, everything we tried here was absolutely fantastic! I've been overlooking this place for years and am glad I stopped by to try it out. The interior is actually pretty sizeable and all the tables are pretty spread out. The Soon Tofu Combo came with a generous portion of bulgogi that was cooked perfectly. It was evident that the bulgogi was actually grilled and not "boiled" like most other places tend to do. The seafood soondubu had a good amount of seafood (best part was a large, succulent shrimp) and the mild spice level did pack a punch. The galbi was excellent and flavorful. And the banchan was refreshing - we even asked for more halfway through our meal and the waitress gave us a complimentary refill. Prices are standard - around $20 for each dish around dinnertime. Gogi has been a go-to for me for some time now. One reason I love it is because they are very accommodating to larger groups. My latest visit was last night with a few friends. Since the portions are a very good size, we got a few items to share . We ordered the chicken fried rice, bulgogi beef, half sweet and spicy and half garlic fried chicken, and the spicy ramen with rice cakes and dumplings. Everything was so delicious! Between the sweet and spicy and garlic flavor chicken, I feel the sweet and spicy is definitely the standout. I did not get much of a garlic taste from the garlic chicken, but it was still very good. Service is consistently great as well. And they have this great dessert spot next door, so it's a win all around. read more

OMG. Probably one of the best lunches that I've had in a long time! This place is your classic don't judge a book by it's cover. From the outside it's just a ho hum place in a strip mall. Inside is just as plain. Good thing we were here to eat. I had the Bibimbap with spicy pork. This might be my new favorite dish. GOGI serves it is a piping hot stone bowl. The rice gets nice and crispy because of the hot bowl. The fried egg, the spicy pork and everything else just blends together perfectly. I've heard from others that the Korean fried chicken is good here. We've been wanting to try it for awhile and finally did. The price was reasonable but a couple dollars higher than their online menu. We got the half and half so that we could try two flavors. We got the garlic flavor and the sweet and spicy. The chicken was juicy and crispy but the flavor of the sauce threw me off. The sweet and spicy was a dark brown red color (I was expecting more bright red gochuchang color). It didn't taste spicy and the sweet flavor was so so. In my opinion the flavor is very muddled and not memorable. The garlic was a dark brown color but didn't have much garlic taste. Despite the chicken being fried decently, I just really didn't care for either sauce flavor. I feel like if they can improve on the sauce recipe it would make a huge difference. Their pickled radish seemed to be possibly homemade but was a very strong vinegar taste. I felt like it was missing something in the flavor of the pickling. In sum, the pricing is fair especially given inflation, but I would say it's competitors have better chicken. I don't plan on returning primarily because of the flavor of the chicken. read more

Yes was my answer! So in good neighborly fashion, her and Michael W. arrived with a truckload of fried chicken. You must see the video of the wonderful flavors graced upon us; Spicy, Garlic and Original. *Spicy~if you can handle a 5 alarm fire in your mouth, this is the one for you. As we ate and drank wines,(yes plural) endorphins kicked in and buzzed we were. It was Spicy Hott! Be aware, delicious and plenty fire. *Garlic~chips of thinly sliced garlic infused this flavored chicken to the bone! It was a "watch out Dracula" event as the garlicky delicious taste oozed. Get this! *Original plain~tasty, but with the other flavors stealing the show, it was like Mike Tyson vs. Jon...no contest right? I mean, give jon credit...he did show up for the beating :p We devoured it non the less! Amazing too. A salad with tender escargot was also flavorful and added to the evenings consumption. Potstickers were plump and not overdone but gently fried and marvelous. How could we not be grateful for the terrific feast brought before us! My Son and I were going to go to Phoenix Pallas for Dim Sum but, there was a line out the door. So we looked up Gogi, a Korean restaurant next door. The pictures of the food looked good so we decided to give it a try (should have waited in line for Dim Sum!). Ordered combo tempura, Korean style omelet, beef short ribs, Everything hot stone and the half and half whole chicken. Half classic fried and garlic fried. The chicken was a take home order for my Wife. She liked the garlic. Sweet and sticky. That was good. From here it goes down hill. The classic was very dry. The tempura combo was EXTREMELY greasy. The short ribs were like rubber. The Korean omelet tasted very watery and lacked seasoning. Everything hot stone was ok. My Son said he liked it. You can't go by the pictures! Asked for boxes and the check. Filled the boxes and sat. I finally had to hunt someone down to pay the bill. So, if the line is long next door, that's telling you something, must be worth the wait. Called to order take out. Tried to order naengmyun but learned it is a summer special. No problem. I needed a minute to decide my second option. I didn't take too long but the lady tried to get me off the phone to decide. I was parked right outside and the restaurant wasn't busy so not sure why she couldn't wait a little bit. I ordered kimchi sundubu and pork yakisoba. The ban Chan was fish cake, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and potatoes. The fish cake was decent and everything else was subpar. Cucumber kimchi was a little better than the regular kimchi. It was almost inedible in my opinion. I ended up throwing away the sundubu because it smelled like dog food and tasted weird. I was afraid it went bad. The yakisoba was decent but it tasted like the instant one you get from the store with pork added to it. Nothing special. They also gave raw greens with no dressing for it which I thought was weird. Very mediocre in my opinion. Can't comment on ambiance. read more

I was really excited to try based on reviews, so my friend and I drove across town to try hoping to get some delicious dishes. However we were both very disappointed. We decided to share an order of the spicy rice cakes with ramen & dumplings , an order of vegetable tempura and a beef and brisket soup to help warm us up. To start the spicy rice cakes were decent, but lacked any real flavor or heat in the sauce , which was a disappointment. The vegetable tempura was delicious. It was hot and crisp when we received it and we really enjoyed it. Last, the beef and brisket soup was the most disappointing, it had no real flavor, and it was very under-seasoned. This was the biggest let down as other Korean soups and stews that I have had are usually really hearty and flavorful. I am really hoping that this was just a one off and hope to try the sweet and spicy fried chicken sometime in the future. read more

Decent Korean spot! Ordered a bulgogi bento and seafood pancake to-go and was surprised that it came with jasmine rice rather than short-grain. Wish they used short-grain or purple rice. First seafood pancake we had without any sauce on the side - after tasting it the bottom was quite moist with the soy vinegar sauce flavor so I wonder if that was why there was no sauce...they make it so that it's already absorbed it? But it made for quite a moist instead of crispy pancake. Not a terrible spot but probably would only go here if other Korean spots in town were closed. read more

My best friend chose this place for her birthday dinner and it was worth the trek from west phoenix!! We started off with the seafood pancake and it was soooooo delicious and crunchy, I loved dipping it in the accompanying sauce. A great appetizer to share with a group because it's cut into slices. I ordered the Hot Stone bulgogi bibimbap and it was surprisingly larger than I thought it would be lol (I had too much of the seafood pancake already). The bibimbap was delicious, make sure to ask for the gochujang bottle :) Surprised myself again by finishing the meal, and was left very satisfied. I also tried some of the japchae and I definitely recommend that too. Others in our group are fans of the garlic fried chicken. This place is great all-year long. Feeling hot? Get the cold noodle soup. Feeling cold? The tofu soup hits the spot. The whole menu in general is pretty great. The kimchi pancake is delicious for nights when you want some makgeolli. They also serve huge orders of Korean fried chicken, some delicious kimchi fried rice, and the hot stone bibimbap is amazing. I had such an amazing experience here for years! Though I recommend calling in for reservations for bigger parties (6 and up). The overall service here's amazing when it's steady business. However when it gets busy I can tell they are trying their best to keep up with the constant rush. Just give them patience they don't forget about you! The music and lighting of this place is very relaxing. There's no windows that let in light but it makes sense since the building is always facing the sun. The food portions here are no joke! Okay, so I can't complain about the portion sizes! The fried chicken lasted us throughout the weekend and I even packed lunch for my husband. Sweet and spicy sauce for the KFC was very good. My husband wasn't fond of the Bimbipap. The plate that truly shined for us was the Japchae. We went on a Saturday night & let me tell you it was packed! We luckily got seated in like 10 minutes and our food arrived in about 15 min or so. We would definitely come back for the Japchae. It also seems that they're most popular for the lunch specials. The ban chan, however, seems a bit of a hit or miss. Most of the time, these side dishes are pretty good. But from time to time, the kimchi is not as good as it can be.
