Fun atmosphere and we arrived earlier than the crowd. The selection of meat is decent. It doesn't compare to seafood selection in Japan of course, and wagyu is meh. White Rice is surprisingly good and Wagyu rice pretty good. When you sit down use app and order items, appetizers, fried rice etc., Some not available yesterday evening. You're free to walk to refrigerator and grab items for grilling, place skewers in bucket. At end of meal wait staff counts and charges, along with items ordered through app, you cannot cash out of app. They'll ask for a tip. Which no one ever brought back a soda refill. Tip we left was ridiculously generous for a few items dropped to table and we had to return to hostess to ask how to start, even though we established when she seated us. She said, "oh you haven't been here?" I thought we established that, but no. She left us at table. I've traveled overseas and frequented BBQ, every restaurant has its own preference. Let the people know! If you're too busy, signage to welcome your guests goes a long way. Here's an idea: print a HOW TO and welcome them. Tell them your story. Tell them steps and how to navigate. Writing is a wonderful way to communicate and each table could be graced with this simple production. Now for the meats. I just wasn't impressed. Super unique experience but we were very unsure how it all went. The hostess gave us a super quick and vague run down on how everything worked.. She directed us towards the refrigerators and then took us to our table. We then picked out the skewers we wanted and sat down. By this time, our charcoal had been dropped off and we scanned the QR code to see what else we could order. We ordered a side of white rice, potstickers, cucumber salad, and corn cheese. The cucumber salad was delicious and a must. It went will with the meats and helped with giving it flavor and for it to not be dry. The corn cheese was not good as it was very mushy. We ended up eating 39 skewers and our grand total for a party of 3 was about $90. The experience was fun and unique. You even have to get your own water. The girl didn't explain anything to us on how we were supposed to do anything so we sat there like uhhhhh so what are we supposed to do!? It's generally kid friendly as long as your kids don't like to reach and touch hot things. I generally enjoy getting the chicken parts and the beef that's less fatty. The brisket for me is a bit too fatty but that's not their fault. It's just the cut. The staff is always nice to us and very friendly. Pro tip is to ask for the skewer tool since it helps a lot with getting the meat off the skewer. If they see you struggling, sometimes they will bring to you. I think it's very important what time you go if you don't want to run into a crowd and a long wait. I don't recommend going on weekends around 6. Our first time here and it didn't disappoint! We came on a Saturday right at opening and there were already 4 groups AHEAD of us, with none of them as first timers. That was a good sign. We were seated quickly and got the introduction of how everything works. Pleasantly surprised with the many vegetables and vegetarian options while we all loved our meats. Had a great time at chubby skewers recently. It's not AYCE but you're charged per skewer (no more than $2) In other reviews I found it concerning that there isn't sauce for the skewers but to be honest the seasoning and the way you grill the skewers is pretty good as is. They have a menu where you can order other dishes and drinks as well. The only downside of my recent visit was that they ran out of rice. Other than that it was still a great time. read more

Saw this place mentioned on social media so I gathered a group of friends and we checked it out for dinner. The restaurant is a cook your own skewer at your table type of place. Setup is simple: they bring a charcoal cooking box to your table, you select as many or as few skewers you want from the coolers, cook them to your liking, and they charge you per skewer at the end. The options are many and varied. We had shrimp, scallops, bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms, lamb, teriyaki chicken, brisket, pineapple, bell peppers, wagyu, Toast, even roasted a spike of garlic. Really making this Chubby Club membership worth it and trying things when out of state. Happened to be in the Mesa area and decided to try Chubby Skewers. A little crazy with reservations since it was Valentine's day, but they are open until 2AM. They have a menu for cooked items like the wagyu beef rice bowl, fried shrimp balls, and the cucumber salad (so good!). Fun and interactive concept grilling your own skewers. They charge for the charcoal and per person to use the seasonings. You also have to order your rice separately. Self serve skewer stations. So many options to choose from but our favorites were the pork and the variety of beef / wagyu skewers. Some meats have 2 skewers - double the price. They have a cheat sheet for how long to cook each specific meat. Overall a fun dining experience. Can't really comment on service too much since this was a DIY restaurant. They didn't really have to do anything or check-in on us since we're doing everything ourselves. Lol. I would love some sort of sauce to dip the meats in since the dusting of dry seasonings just tasted flat. All the skewers go in a metal canister and when you're done, the staff counts it infront of you. Between 4 adults, we did about 70 skewers. We choose and pick the skewers in the fridge area our self then bring them to our table to grill (there is an instruction on the table for how long we need to grill them) once it done, we can add some spices that is provided on the table, but the skewers it self are already marinated and tasty even without additional spices. For me, since I like spicy, I add some chilli, cumin & dry spices. Its a new experience for the kids, they really enjoy to choose, grill then eat them. First visit: The options were lackluster, the service sucked and we left not wanting to come back. We hated everything on their menu except their skewers. We especially hated the stir fried noodles or the scallops in garlic sauce. Everything was so salty and inedible. Second time: good, better variety and service was a little better. We had no complaints but nothing wowed us. Third time: WAY better than previous visits. Service was fast and friendly. Good options on their menu now. Fried rice is insanely delicious, I was surprised and expected it to be average. Cucumber salad is always good. Malatang was full of ingredients and soo numbing. We ordered the Chinese pancake wraps but they dropped off tortillas... which we didn't understand. $6 for tortillas. If we wanted tortillas, we would have asked for tortillas. They should have let us know they were out of the wraps instead of dropping off tortillas so we don't order them lol. Skewers are still good and they have better variety now. So simple but amazing. Meat and pairings grilled over charcoal. A lot faster of a cook than KBBQ and a lot tastier. The meat which is already great quality gets so tender. My favorites are the black pepper wagyu and the lamb in the dry rub. The service is usually pretty quick. I highly recommend getting the subscription if you plan on going more than once, takes the skewer price down from 1.30 to 1.00. They have lots of available seating and do team service. This place has a very interesting concept with a twist on Korean bbq with grilling your own meat. There is a metal hot box they set on your table filled with coals which you can set metal skewers of meat on top to cook. You walk over to the large refrigerators with about 8 doors and there are trays of meat, seafood, and a few veggies. I thought this was fun but the skewers of meat were about only 2" long at most. The restaurant charges you for everything, the coals, the spices mixes that you add to your skewers. I'm not sure why they don't include this in the price of the experience. There were other food items that you can order via a QR code on the table which we only ordered rice. The booths were very tight. So much so that you can't put your legs under the booth. This place is ok. I wanted to try it, since it's quite unique compared to the other places around. I forgot to take photos :/ the concept is, it's $1.10/skewer stick. The amount of meat on the skewer stick is bare minimum, even veggies, 3 broccoli trees for $1.10.. and not even full trees. I ordered white rice with my food. I was hoping they had some sort of sauces, but they have 0 sauce. No soy sauce, no chili sauce, no wet sauces. The only way to get a wet sauce is to order an entree that has it. This made eating the meats more of a challenge. I also ordered a coconut drink, and it was a tiny box. You get little cups for water, but you have to get up and go to the area with the skewers for more water. That or fill up countless cups. The constant having to get up for water is quite inconvenient. There's pretty much no service, it's all self service. Unless you want an entree or special drink, then you scan the QR code and order it, and it's brought out to you. I was not impressed with this place. I'd come back ONLY if they brought waters to the tables and added sauces. But it was a good experience to try at least once! read more

So the concept is cool. The $1 something per skewer will def grab anyone's attention. However when you get there There's an up charge to use seasonings. Each person is charged for each that is used. There's an up charge to get more charcoal. The service was great when we first got there. But then had to chase them down to get the bill when we wanted to leave. I think like a lunch/appetizer kind of spot. But to actually get full off of the food you will have to spend a lot. Bc a small amount comes on each skewer. We spent only about $30. We just wanted a taste of things. We didn't get anywhere near full. So I would estimate about 60-100 a person (again an estimate) to get full. But the food is good. I stopped by around 11:30 PM because I couldn't sleep, and the place was still busy. One of the biggest advantages is that they're open very late--until midnight or even 2 AM depending on the day. There were still plenty of people arriving after midnight when I left, which tells you how popular it is. The atmosphere felt very authentic. The restaurant was smoky from the charcoal grills, and nearly everyone was speaking Chinese. Even the busboy and waitress had to use Google Translate to help explain some of the menu items to me, which honestly added to the experience. The food quality was solid, but for me the biggest draw was the overall experience of picking out skewers and cooking them over a charcoal fire. The Wagyu skewers were decent, and the bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms were good as well. I also enjoyed the crispy bread and Brussels sprouts. The standout dish for me was the fresh spicy cucumber and cilantro plate. It had a light, refreshing flavor that reminded me of a milder kimchi-style seasoning and was easily my favorite item of the night. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and would absolutely go back for another late-night snack. If I drank alcohol, I imagine this place would be even more fun. What I didn't like about it was the size of the skewers- there were on average three small dime sized pieces of meat on each skewer. I also didn't like that I had to get up to get the skewers as the location of the freezer wasn't easy to get to, and not ideal to have to keep getting up when you're dining with others. We really liked this place! First of all, all of the servers were super friendly and very attentive. The table was cleared often and they checked in with us regularly. There is a charcoal few of $4.00 for the table (as much as you need) and 99¢ per person spice fee. You grab a tray and all the skewers you want from the fridges. All skewers are $1.20 each. Cook them yourself over the charcoal and then put the empty skewer in the container they give you. At the end of the evening they'll count up the skewers and charge you accordingly. There was such a great variety of skewers to choose from. Of course there were the standard chicken, scallops, shrimp, wagyu beef, and fish cakes. But there were also more adventurous items like beef tongue, chicken skin, and abalone. There were lots of different varieties of vegetables on skewers too. You can use a QR code to order sides like noodles and rice. They have beer and sake and soft drinks. I was so glad we tried this place. We tried mainly the Wagyu beef, chicken, lamb.. Get your tray, then go to the glass door refrigerators to pick your skewers that you want to try. You pay for your charcoal, there are drinks and no shortage of neon signs.
