I been there when they gran open, I'm trying to get my favorite All seafood little salty

Umi buffet is a very clean buffet with an expansive ramen bar, hotpot, and much more. You will not regret coming here :)

Food was delicious, great service and ambiance was fun. Favorite items were the honey shrimp, egg tarts and cheese cake. read more

Umi Buffet definitely left me curious after seeing all the hype on social media. While they offer a wide variety of options, the overall quality of the food was pretty subpar. The crab legs were well stocked, which was a plus, but I would much rather have them served hot instead of cold. The lobster tails didn't come out very often, and when they did, staff were monitoring how much guests were taking. My question is... did I not pay for an **all-you-can-eat buffet**? The ramen bar was probably my favorite part. Be aware that a surcharge is added to the bill but the servers were pretty consistent throughout our visit, so I'll give them credit there. Overall, though, with all the social media hype surrounding Umi, I expected the food to be much better. read more

It's new and flashy and people like new and flashy. Me, I think it okay. The food itself is of average quality for what ever it is. Crab is crab, and all the prepared food was was line cooked. It's like most Asian all you can eat buffets just wrapped in pretty paper for now. For being newer and having so many employees around I would recommend that someone constantly clean the bathrooms and floors that were sticky. With a party of six there should have been some conversations about how great or good the experience was as a whole. None. No boba as advertised. No cooked rice outside the slightly hard sushi pillows that didn't taste seasoned. Last words...flash costs. read more

Hey guys, finally got to try UMI. I will say the place looks amazing and designed out well. The light is good and the inside does remind me of another restaurant I been too. Service here is all right, we have our drink and I went but to the buffet and came back no drinks, second round going back and coming back the drinks were there. It wasn't too busy at all either. But they are friendly and nice people and probably had a few more tables. The food is good. Sushi is great nice and taste fresh. The platting looks good too and it a good option of sushi for sure. The hot pot bar is nice and loaded as well and so is Ramon too. Now for the hot food- it was like Luke warm to on the colder side. Had good flavor tho just wish it was a bit hotter. Tried out a good selection of the food too. There was the sweet and sour fish I wouldn't go for it again. The orange chicken general chos and beef options are great! Overall all I would go back again and try out some hotpot stuff and noodle bar. Overall 8/10 read more

I was beyond excited to see this opening up. Went on a Saturday morning and zero wait. There was a sign on the door saying lobster was only for special occasions now. So heads up before you go. The buffet was very clean and stocked. However the quality was poor. Crabs were good sized, hard to eat, but mushy. I had some mussels that tasted rotten. And then Cooked items were lacking. All the beef items were low quality beef and overcooked to the point they were tough. I don't usually go for the hot foods and stick to seafood but my go to items are always hot n sour soup (had zero taste), green beans (again bland) and some cooked seafood dishes. I thought my taste buds were broken nothing had flavor to it. Hot pot selections were big. If we go back I would just do the hot pot. But $40 for hot pot wouldn't be worth it. Sashimi area was actually good. Salmon seemed good quality and the option of cold salads were good. Everything out, just ok. Employees were oblivious and constantly walking into everyone and not paying attention and chatting to each other most of the time. It wasn't until we were halfway through our first plates that we were questioned about where our receipts were? . Which was odd because no one in our section had receipts on their tables. Can't say I'll hurry back. read more

Umi Hotpot Sushi Buffet Very highly anticipated to try this restaurant, what a total disappointment! All their food was cold and very uneventful tasting, out of lobster on a Tuesday before 7pm. Big variety of food, drinks, desserts, hot pot, ramen, sushi, sashimi, BBQ. The service is very good, always there to take away your plastic plate or fill your drink. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful with lots of lightning and clean. But the most important thing was the lack luster quality of the food read more

If you are a big eater, and like to have a lot of options--this is your new favorite spot! They have so much variety for you to go for from, Hot Pot, Pizza, Sushi, Ramen, Chinese food, dessert, drinks and more. This is is completely surprise me with their options- I felt overwhelmed and didn't know what to start. I tried the Hot pot with the spicy broth which was really good but it was not that spicy ( for me ) Grilled seafood and the seared Salmon was amazing. The restaurant is spacious and open, making it feel more relaxed and comfortable and you don't feel crowded. Perfect for a couple or even a big group for lunch or dinner. The service is amazing, they keep your table clean while you enjoy the meal. One thing that I want to remind you, try not to leave the table without anyone there at the table, sometimes the staff can get confused and thought you're done with your meal and they clean your table, just let them know of have someone there. I like the variety that they offer even though I'm not a big eater but I will come back for more that for sure. Come and check this place out, you will love to see those options that they have offered for you. read more

Newly awesome buffet! Clean, prismatic, and luminous! This place has a wide range of all-you-can-eat seafood, hot pot, ramen, and sushi. It was crazy packed but we only waited about 20 minutes to get a seat, which isn't too bad for a spot that just recently opened. I absolutely enjoyed their shrimp and clams. Everything tasted good. Their hot pot was just okay for me. We got the Sichuan spicy mala and it had a nice kick to it. I appreciate the quality of the meat, though. Plenty of chilled items like snow crab legs, chilled shrimp, and even fresh oysters on the half shell. Their sushi & sashimi bar presented a gleaming culinary display of Nigiri, sashimi, and specialty rolls--all made fresh. I enjoyed each one. UMI Hotpot Sushi & Seafood Buffet chain ranges from $25.99 for lunch to $39.99 for dinner and weekends, per person. read more

It was honestly not that great. We tried going on a Saturday around 530. Tons of ppl waiting already. I joined the waitlist and I was 114th place. Good thing I lived close by and waited at home. 2 hrs gone by. And still was stuck at 20. Think we got in maybe another hour. Ok the food was definitely disappointing. A lot of food was not named so you're not sure what it is. Also a lot of food didn't have tongs to get the food. It seemed so messy everywhere. I'm not sure if it's cuz we got in towards the end of the day. Food was only mediocre. Only thing I found was good was the crab legs and salmon sashimi. The hot pot part was ehh. Not many dessert choices. The fridge where the boba and other drinks were warm. Not sure why they add 12% gratuity when service was not that great. They don't even bring you silverware to the table. You have to get everything yourself. Overall. I probably wouldn't come back. Definitely wouldn't wait that long to eat there. read more

With Umi being opened for almost 2 weeks now...I dont think it really lived up to the hype. We waited over an hour and half to be seated and I was waiting to be impressed. When you join the waitlist there's a QR code to scan inside. I liked how there was an "add note" section which I mentioned it was my boyfriend's birthday. It was his birthday day. Unfortunately nothing was done or mentioned for his birthday. What made it really disappointing was seeing another table near us receive a birthday celebration with a flashy lit sign, singing staff, and a little dessert with a candle. I definitely wished we received the same experience as I had mentioned it in the note. I liked how a cold beverage was included in the price. They also had a fridge full of milk teas, fruit teas, bottle teas, and a canned drink. I chose the red fruit tea, but unfortunately it was not very good. I liked how they had full ice cream bars to choose from for dessert as most buffets just have the little ice cream cups. I tried the hot pot and ramen and it was okay. I asked for a recommendation for a non spicy broth and they gave me the golden soup broth. The sign for broths arent descriptive at all and in another language. It was still too spicy for me. My boyfriend tried the seafood and said it was pretty subpar. It lacked flavor and was very bland. Trying to eat the crawfish he said it was like they crushed them in the pot or container so trying to eat them you have crunched shells in it. Not good at all. The 12% surcharge plus expecting tip is a little crazy since the service wasnt so attentive to refill drinks. For the price and long wait I was expecting more. Personally I think Pacific Seafood Buffet has better seafood and even the Number 1 buffet has better food overall. Definitely not worth the hype. read more

I was SO excited to try this place, and OMG... they were SOOOOO busy! Somehow, though, their waiting list wasn't being updated properly, and we never received a text that our table was ready. We ended up waiting for over an hour before finally going back to ask about our table. The list seemed to be stuck at #13 foreverrrr I'm not sure if they're still new to managing the waiting list, or if they were just completely overwhelmed because there were so many people and different table sizes to arrange. Either way, I think the waiting-list system could definitely use a little TLC. So for now, I'm giving them 4 stars . NOW... LET'S TALK ABOUT THE FOOD!!! Yummmmmm!!! All the food was AWESOME! There are SO many choices to pick from, tons of desserts, and plenty of drinks too. And don't forget the hot pot!!! It was GOOD! Honestly, everything we tried tasted great. If you don't like it, you can go kick my neighbor's butt... JUST KIDDING!!! I absolutely WILL come back and give this place another try. I definitely want to see how they improve their waiting-list management. If the waiting situation gets better next time, I'll happily upgrade you guys to 5 stars! SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS Umi Hotpot Sushi and Seafood Buffet 7810 S Priest Drive Tempe, 85284 With lots of hype about this new restaurant opening, I just could not resist joining the crowds to see what it is. We arrived at lunch time and were seated immediately. The restaurant is large, with polished marble floors, high ceilings and lots of seating in comfortable chairs. The buffet consists of multiple rows of steam tables with all sorts of assorted foods available. We filled our plates multiple times with a taste of each item to evaluate the foods. There is also a section of sushi and sashimi as well as hot pot and bbq. Desserts are in a separate refrigerated area as well as assorted ice cream favors including popsicles and sandwiches. Drinks are unlimited and include Pepsi products as well as assorted juices and several fridges of assorted imported drinks which are self service. The first thing I noticed is that the food is luke warm. At no time did I find any that was actually hot on my plate. Lots of steam from the steam tables, but not hot food. Each item was sampled for quality and taste. The sushi section had a large assortment of items, but many of them seemed to be almost the same. The tamago was bland, and the unagi seemed to be lacking in basic flavor. The sashimi section consisted of a number of selections including tuna and mackerel, but again, flavors were lacking or different than expected. The tuna is not of high quality and the mackerel (which I normally really go for) had a strange flavor that was off putting. The ribs were properly cooked, but once again, the flavor was off. It was then that I had my ah ha moment! The foods are all seasoned for asian tastes, and not gaijin (non-asian) people. This is not your typical Chinese or Japanese food that you would find in the U.S. It is more like the food I ate in China and Japan. That being said, be prepared for very different flavors than are usually found in restaurants here. Cleanliness is excellent, though service could use a bit of spiffing up. Wait staff often stand around doing nothing when tables need to be served drink refills or need bussing. I can't say I enjoyed my meal, and left some of it uneaten. Hot food would have been the first improvement I would have liked to have seen. 2 stars Sentry - Restaurant Reviews Tempe, Arizona 85282 Find us on Yelp, Google, and all around the world. We were a party of 13 that came in for my dad's birthday. We had made a reservation the week before , so I called two days before our reservation to confirm the number of people . When I called the gentleman couldn't find our reservation. So that was a little disappointing at first , but then we just basically put it another reservation and hoped that it stayed this time around. Day of we arrived and they had a long line waiting but luckily for us since we had a large party with a reservation we didn't have to wait in line at all. The kids and I really enjoyed the drink selection that was unlimited , we thought it was a nice touch. Not only do you have your carbonated drinks but there are other specialty drinks out in the fridge near the buffet line that you don't typically see at other Asian buffets. The seafood variety was pretty impressive there was cold Lobster, Hot Lobster, crab legs, scallops, abalone, razor clams and much much more. Sushi variety was pretty decent too, was very surprised to see unagi out for sashimi and not just nigiri. Hot Pot meat was your normal basic selection, nothing fancy there. Desserts, they carried some good brand Popsicles and ice cream sandwiches which was nice! Variety of baked goods too, but I will say I've seen better selections at lower end buffets. Fruit selection was pretty wonderful too, had some exotic fruits available. Oh, I didn't get to try their ramen but it looked really good! I myself definitely couldn't eat my moneys worth lol but it was a nice experience. My kids on the other hand ate like champs. Staff here were pretty attentive and the place was very well kept and beautiful inside. Only main issue I had was flooring.. Their floor are so sleek, if anyone were to spill a drop of liquid anywhere, someone could definitely get hurt. read more

I had to see what all the hype was about, so for Labor Day dinner, my group of nine headed to Umi Hotpot Sushi & Seafood Buffet in Tempe. The parking lot was full, and the wait for a table was about an hour. Once seated, we were quickly moved because our table had apparently been placed in the middle of a walkway. A strong opening. Here is something important: your two-hour dining clock starts the moment they stamp and print your ticket--not when you sit down or take your first bite. Pay attention to that. The restaurant was packed with a diverse crowd, primarily Asian diners, some Black diners, very few white diners, and a few Hispanics--including our group. The atmosphere was loud, crowded, and frantic. Before we even headed to the buffet, our server asked us to scan a QR code and leave a positive review in exchange for one king crab leg. You must show the posted review to receive it. After jumping through those hoops, the reward was a cold, soggy crab leg that wasn't worth the effort--or the dishonest review they were trying to purchase. Then came the buffet. There is no real organization. It is basically a culinary free-for-all: get in where you fit in while people move beside you, cut in front of you, squeeze behind you, and reach across you--all chasing the same trays of food. The selection is enormous, but enormous does not automatically mean good. It reminded me of Lin's Grand Buffet, which I'm not a fan of either. There were plenty of shrimp dishes, and most of those met my standards. The crab legs, however, were badly overcooked and required more labor than pleasure to eat. The sushi bar looked beautiful--bright, colorful, and impressive--but for me, the attraction ended with the presentation. There is also a long row of ingredients for hot pot, ramen, or some type of soup experience. They bring a pot with an open flame to your table so you can cook everything yourself. I don't know enough about hot pot to judge it fairly, and it didn't appeal to me enough to experiment during an already hectic meal. Oddly enough, the fruit bar may have been the freshest and most enjoyable part of my entire dining experience. They also offer half a lobster--but expect to stand in line for more than 30 minutes. When you finally get it, you discover it is the economy-sized, inflation-era version of a lobster. Save your time and your dignity. The restaurant itself is flashy, spacious, and undeniably eye-catching, with several large dining areas. Unfortunately, the service was underwhelming, the entire experience felt rushed, and the restrooms earned a solid F on the Luis Scale. Think truck-stop cleanliness inside a much nicer building. Bottom line: you have two hours to eat, the place is hectic and chaotic, the premium items are mostly hype, and the overwhelming selection cannot hide the uneven quality. I tried it, I understand the attraction, and I have no desire to return. As always, tip your servers, try almost anything once, and then move on to the next adventure. read more

Umi Sushi & Seafood Buffet is definitely worth checking out, especially if you love having a ridiculous number of options in front of you. The selection was incredible, and the hot pot was amazing. Opening weekend also came with a free king crab leg, which is a pretty great way to welcome people. I am not saying I made multiple trips to the buffet, but if anyone asks, I was conducting a very thorough investigation. The only downside was that it was a bit of a madhouse. There were over 100 people waiting, so we were very thankful to have made a reservation. Without one, I might still be standing there, slowly turning into a piece of sushi. I will definitely be back, but probably in a few months after the hype dies down a little. Great food, incredible selection, and a place I am looking forward to revisiting when the opening weekend chaos has settled. read more

I had a pretty decent experience. When we arrived, I was #22 on the waiting list, which I expected considering it's a brand new buffet. Surprisingly, the wait wasn't too bad, and we were able to get seated fairly quickly. Our waitress came by and took our drink orders, but we ended up finishing our first plate before we had to remind her about our drinks. Hopefully, that was just because they're still getting everything organized with being a new restaurant. As far as the food goes, the Chinese food was decent. It was pretty much what you would expect from a buffet, but honestly, nothing really stood out to me. The sushi, however, was a completely different story. The sushi was amazing! They definitely know how to make sushi, and you could tell they were using good quality ingredients. That was easily the highlight of the buffet for me. I didn't try the hot pot this time, so I can't really give an opinion on that. One thing to keep in mind is the price. Dinner is advertised at $39.99 per person, but with the 12% service charge, you're realistically looking at around $48-$50 per person once everything is factored in. Overall, I'd say Umi is a decent new buffet with great sushi. The restaurant was clean, the sushi was definitely worth trying, and I think they have a lot of potential as they continue to improve their service and get settled in. read more

Avoid if you don't want a sensory overload. From the moment you walked into the door, you have to go find the host as they are not by the entrance, but tuck in the corner of the next room. Maybe it's opening weekend, but it was full chaos, no staff to help guide anyone. Then there are two lines: one for walk in, and another for reservation. Thank god we had reservation! Once seated, there are sooo many options, you have no clue where to start and what to do especially if you never been to an Asian buffet before. Mo For example, people got meat for the hot pot station and asked me if they take it to the ramen station to get it cooked. Then at the ramen station, the one chef is so focused on his tasks that other ppl didn't know how to order their food. Then for the regular buffet, where you're paying $40+ a person, the restaurant can't afford some plates??? Never been to a restaurant where plastic plates are being used! Definitely a sign not to come! As for the food, there were so many selection like a high end Panda Express, but the quality was questionable. That goes for the snow crab legs, to the shrimp, and to the sushi. If anything, stick with the hot pot as that feels safer. Lastly, the food definitely did not sit right with my stomach, where the next hour after my meal, full blown diarrhea, happened. Thus, a HARD PASS to avoid the craziness and lack of quality in their food. Good concept for AZ but restaurant needs better management, crowd control, more servers, someone to help explain how it work, and better quality food. read more

Finally Umi is open!!! So far I have been there twice. Yes the wait was long.. waited around an hour. But I was too excited to try it out right the way! Restaurant is spacious and elegant. Everything was fresh and there is so much variety to choose from! From sushi, seafood to hot food, ramen and hot pot! Not to mention freshly steamed lobster with garlic! For $40 per person. It is so worth it! You better come super hungry! Let's talk about the food: I would skip the sushi, it got too much rice on it. Sashimi was pretty good I kept getting salmon sashimi. I liked the cold seafood bar with snow crab legs and snails. But both times snow crab legs were running out and it took a while to be refilled. For hot food, I liked the crawfish, scallop and abalone with vermicelli, steamed oysters with garlic, oxtail, short ribs and of course the lobster. Hot Pot and ramen are also decent. There are also big fridges with different kinds of Asian drinks for you to grab! Milk teas, juices, herbal tea, Korean and Chinese brand sodas etc. I am not a dessert person and I was so stuffed so I only tried a little bit. I liked the mango cheesecake and Portuguese egg tart. read more

The idea is awesome: self-serve style, tons of seafood, some sushi, hot pot meats, plus Chinese dishes all in one place. But everything except the hot pot was cold! Including noodles and rice, which made the "buffet at home" vibe kinda meh. Crab legs were ice cold including a hair! and not in a good way, sushi was like 90% rice and just sort of decorated on top, desserts were dry and forgettable. Hot pot itself was yummy though, first time I've had it like this and the broth flavor was solid, but we basically got the pot dropped on the table and had to figure out the rest... would be nicer if they explained how to do hot pot properly. Paid around $40 and it felt like we mostly paid for soup, very disappointed overall and probably will not try again. Note they charge 12% tip automatically so at 3.31pm our "soup" cost $97 for the two of us .. read more

We had a great dinner here with the family. This buffet has an incredible selection of sushi and Asian dishes, ramen bowl, plus hot pot with unlimited meats, drinks, boba, ice cream, juices, fruits, and pastries. My personal favorites were the snow crab and king crab. The ambiance was phenomenal, and the entire restaurant was extremely clean. There was plenty of staff constantly clearing plates and checking on refills, which made the dining experience feel very well organized. I also appreciated that certain items, like king crab and lobster, can be ordered directly to your table. During busy times, there can be a line for lobster, but they limit the quantity per plate to keep things moving and make it fair for everyone. Tip: I highly recommend making a reservation through Yelp before you go. We arrived around 7:30 PM and there was a very long line, especially with walk ins trying to get tables. Having a reservation made the process much easier. Overall, a fantastic family dining experience with great food, variety, service, and atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out. read more
