The restaurant is very nice inside and the outside tables are in a beautiful flower filled courtyard and very relaxing. We recently had 12 of our family there for Easter brunch and it was the best time and very relaxing and not the usual rush that I have experienced at the mega hotel $180 a person Easter brunches. My family used to go to the Mission Grille for Mother's Day Brunch. It was really good. They don't offer it any more but I called this past Tuesday to see if they still had a buffet brunch. I spoke to a nice lady who helped me book a reservation for six for Mother's Day this coming Sunday. The reservation was either half an hour or hour before brunch ended. I forgot if the reservation was for 10AM or 10:30AM so I called to confirm. Another representative working today (Thursday) told me that they don't do reservations, it's first come, first served. I asked to speak to the person I spoke to on Tuesday who told me I had a reservation but they aren't there today. Real nice, Mission Grille... If you record your calls, I would recommend you go back and figure out who told me that I had a reservation and listen to the conversation because now it's three days before Mother's Day and I've lost the past two days to try to book someplace nice to take my mom and wife because I thought I had a reservation with you... read more

Went there for dinner and was added to the wait list. Was told to check back in 15mins if we hadn't been seated. No real place to wait other than by the hostess table. Waited and checked back to be told that we could go to the bar and sit at the high-top tables but it first come first serve. Waited another 30 to be told by another hostess that the wait was an hour and half which had we have known when were added to the list, we would not have. At this point, we had already waited so we continued to do so. There were quite a few empty tables and we waited patiently as the manager kept walking by us. Asked him if we could maybe be seated sooner but was told they were waiting on reservations. There were a few tables empty that we could have sat at but neither him or his staff bothered to seat us. As we were in the bar waiting and this table was finishing up the manager walked by and asked if were still waiting and we said yes we were and just as were about to sit down the hostess came over to tell us that the table that we were about to sit at was unavailable and was reservation only. The manager could've told this but had his hostess do it for him. After waiting a while longer, we finally sat at the end of the bar. Terrible customer service! Even after that, we ate and watched as the table that supposedly had reservations stayed empty! Such terrible service! I know that reservations take priority but if there are empty tables available, they could've accommodated those who were waiting other than making people wait. One of the restaurant options located within the Mission Palms Hotel. I'm pretty sure this is where the room service comes from too. I had room service twice during my stay and had no complaints there. After finally finding a spot that didn't have bird dropping remnants, I dined in the outside corridor area. I only dined at the actual restaurant once for lunch, for the lunch buffet. The offerings on the buffet were a bit different than what I find on other buffets in my part of the country, but that's common to find while traveling practically across the country. I enjoyed the salad and the wrap station... with options that consisted of deli meat, cheeses, and a few extras. Service was awesome, which can sometimes be rare when you choose a buffet option. The staff here is absolutely one of a kind. They are so friendly and attentive. I'm visiting my friend here in Arizona and we decided to have a mini vacation. Drinks were had, and breakfast was much needed the morning after. Mission Grille did not disappoint. The food was delicious and they even let us order a Bloody Mary to help with the hangovers. It's just annoying, given you have like 1 job as a waitress and you don't do it you know? Had like an unplanned, 1 hour breakfast. First of all, I'll give my waitress (Phyllis) and other staff a FIVESTAR. Day 1: The breakfast buffet including the omelet simply did not come close to living up to the $15 price tag. Fruit was tasty and fresh, and there were many more (high carb) food options. Clean and cool looking place, stylish and has fabulous outdoor dining option. Perhaps ordering off menu is the way to go for breakfast. Days 2 & 3: similar experience with breakfast as day 1, but to be fair I eat very low carb foods, so did not try the pastries and waffles, which looked terrific! I do eggs and bacon better at home. The lunch buffet was awesome! Wonderful choices for almost anyone, including gluten-free options. The salad was fresh, they had soups, nachos, a sandwich bar, and ice cream sundae bar. You know what parents just Looooove? They just love it when the hostess counts the party of six and says "four?.....and two kids." That's right because since kids don't have credit cards they aren't technically a full human in the eyes of a restaurant. Then we sit down and we're given FOUR menus. Not only is my daughter old enough to read, she's old enough to know when she's been rudely blown off. Then there came FOUR glasses of water. She asked, "Daddy, how come they didn't give me a water?" I gave her my glass and told her she should assume that they rudely forgot to bring MY water. After about 45 minutes of waiting in frustration and embarrassment with no food, we all got up, paid for our coffee and left. "Oh but your food is ready now." Sorry, I was insulted when we walked in the door and after 45 minutes of stewing in insult am too fed up to complete the purchase. If you can't scramble eggs in 45 minutes, I'll find someone else who can. read more

Went with 3 co-workers to the Wednesday lunch buffet, which always features Prime Rib. The star of the show is the Prime Rib. It was DELISH and was the main thing that makes this worth the $15 buffet charge. There was a sandwich station with various cold cuts to build your sammiches, a salad bar, and a "hot food" bar with 4 different "meat/veggie" combinations. All those were just so-so, nothing to wow anyone. But the Prime Rib Carving Station was TOP notch. Worth every penny of the cost. The desserts were fairly mundane (brownies, pecan pie, 4 kinds of cookies) with the exception being a Strawberry Cheesecake Parfait which was delumptious. I've been here for breakfast and gladly it was paid! They have a buffet but because I was with some ASU guests I had to stick to the menu. It is not a big menu, but still has a little bit of something sweet, salty, healthy, high carb, veggie. Now, it may have been that we went while they were transitioning from breakfast to lunch; however, a hotel restaurant needs to be better prepared for such transitions. Prices went from 32.50 a head for the brunch to 50 a head but they got rid of all the delicious dishes!!!Last year this place seemed to be going down but this year it's hot rock bottom, THE ABSOLUTE WORST. The room remains decorated the same as always (hint, time to update your decor) bowls glued to the wall, really ??? Hash browns with motz cheese were beyond burnt. The short ribs, burnt and dry. No leafy salad either. Deserts were super sweet. No one manned the omelet bar. Service by the busers, HORRIFIC! Thank goodness we had a great server. I come to this place once a year for business, this year it hit an all time low for quality, our meals were so bad that we couldn't eat them! We tried not once but twice to have a meal here and both times things had to be sent back. Even though we talked to the so called manager nothing much was done for the really bad meals. We did receive credit for one meal but that was only one and after we had finished our 2 meals and the lady with us had to eat alone. Six of us ate brunch today at the Mission Grille. The food and the service were terrible. First let's back up to describe the parking situation. You have to pay to park in the city lot adjacent to the hotel or valet. So before you even get inside, you're out $4-$5. The breakfast buffet costs $17, not counting beverage/tax/tip. We would have liked to order off the menu, but the server said the kitchen was backed up a half hour, so he didn't recommend it. He said we could get a made-to-order omelet at the buffet, but failed to mention that we had to place the order with him...so, you guessed it, when we figured out that there was no omelet station at the buffet, we tracked him down and he said the kitchen was backed up so it would take a half hour. We went ahead with the buffet, as it was the only option. The tepid scrambled eggs tasted like powdered egg with lumps of tough ham in them. Greasy bacon/sausage. Hash browns that were cold. The pastries were stale and cold. The fruit was ok but nothing memorable -- cantelope, honeydew and canned pineapple. Service replenishing coffee/water was spotty. All told it cost about $25 per person for a low-quality meal and experience. Go elsewhere! read more

We enjoyed an outstanding Thanksgiving buffet with a wide array of menu items. All the basic turkey fare,but also peel and eat shrimp,salmon,prime rib,etc. Because the weather was pleasant we were able to take advantage of the outdoor courtyard to enhance our experience. I had one meal while staying at the Tempe Mission Hotel. It was the Saturday morning brunch at the Mission Grille. The restaurant is very clean and the workers were exceptionally attentive and polite. The buffet was nicely laid out with a wide variety to choose from hot and cold cold cereals,breakfast meats,different egg selections, breads and danish. My favorite was the omelette bar. its the type were you select the filling and a cook completes the omelette. The restaurant is set up so you can eat indoors or out on a beautiful tree covered patio, Pretty romantic for a breakfast brunch. It was a great bargain too, approximately 16.00 per person. Mother's Day Brunch: Chef--Hide your head in shame. We have been coming for three years, but this was the last. $49.00 for incredibly bad food. Scrambled eggs--clearly made from mix. Tasteless and cold. Bacon--cheap and fatty. Sausage--cold, gelatinous yuck. No green salad, but an odd pile of tasteless beans labeled "Cowgirl Caviar." (????) Fruit bar was canteloupe, honeydew and watermelon--not even strawberries which are in season! The buffet looked like a grade school cafeteria with mystery casseroles. Some sort of chicken that was clearly made from frozen chicken-parts. All the food had been pre-prepared and left in a warmer (too bad it wasn't still warm) and dried (dehydrated) until it was inedible. French Onion Soup was like incredibly thick salty gravy. Two restaurants share this space in the Mission Palms Hotel, Tempe: Mission Grille, where we enjoyed lunch today, and Ha rry's Place. The MG dining room is spacious with attractive tables for four, or one can choose to eat in the pretty tree-shaded courtyard. Since temp was 102 degrees, we opted for indoors and the welcome air conditioning. A pleasant lady escorted us to a table and advised us that we could order from the menu or have the lunch buffet. Took a quick peek at the latter and it looked very good to us. Hot dishes consisted of trout almondine, grilled chicken, scalloped potatos au gratin and a mixture of green beans and baby carrots. A chef was carving beef, there were cold sandwiches, baked potato soup, salads and yummy desserts. The items bore exotic names on cards but I cannot recall them. We took small portions of each of the hot items, all were nicely presented and tasted very good. Feature of desserts was a delicious, very moist carrot cake and a selection of petit fours. Our waiter was efficient. I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more
