Fantastic band playing tonight! My friends and I loved them. When will they be back? I will be there!

So today's review is probably the strangest post I've ever had to do. First off, I try to give a honest and fair assessment of the establishment as possible. Having a neutral approach is the key. So here goes. I've passed by this location probably a gazillion times over the years and never stopped. Had a friend that had a luncheon and she said the food was great. A few Saturdays ago, I decided to stop and get lunch, It was 11:00am. When we pulled to The Continental in Glendora. The Continental is a much older establishment and from the street you'd never know it was still in operation. The grounds around the building are in need of a major facelift. The huge parking lot easily supports 40-50 vehicles (estimated). The handicap stall was few maybe two. Lighting at night and the sign outside are bright and clear. Only 3-4 cars in the parking lot at this time. There are three ways to enter, the front door and both side doors. As my friend tried to open the front door it was locked, leading us to believe that they were closed. She then tried the side door while I waited in my car. She went in for a second and said with a smile on her face, "O You gotta see this". As I entered I was transformed back to the 70's and 80's !!! I had never seen this kind of atmosphere at a restaurant in a long time. We stepped into the bar side of the restaurant. First thing I noticed was the bar and I would guess "The Regulars" that were lining it. NOTE: I haven't been to a bar since my college years and I was taken back to see so many at the bar drinking at 11:00am. Please note, I'm not judging anyone. The bar had seats for about 15 and 13 or so we're taking. As we made our was to the area in the middle they had smaller tables all in a row probably 10-13 tables with chairs. To the left were booths about 8 or so and what got me looking was the lite brown color with old school tuck n rolled upholstery !!! Haven't seen that in years. As we headed to one of the tables I tripped on the carpet and noticed that the carpet haven't been cleaned in decades because it was black with small color highlights, but the reason I tripped was because the carpet was ripped and they tried to fix the rip with ducted tape that has now disintegrated over the years. I was feeling on edge. As we sat at the small table the server came over and said if we would like to sit at the booths and I said no it's hard for me to get in n out of them. So with a great smile she gave us some menus. There was another lady with a clip board that came out and was counting the tables, at least 3 or 4 times. I figured it was for a party soon, then she locked her eyes on us,, not just once but several times. Feeling uncomfortable as it was, I asked if there was a problem and she said that she needed our table for a party and she wanted to move it into place. I then asked, what time was the party ? she said not until 7:00pm. with an attitude. I kindly answered we'll be long gone before then... In looking at the menu I noticed that the prices were good and a selection that was good for lunch. Not sure if they had another menu for dinner service. We made our choices I had a patty melt and my friend had the Continental (I think) with onion rings and mine was fries with no salt. Our server smiled and said I'll put that right in for you and put our drinks on the table. I noticed on the sign outside that they had karaoke on certain nights, then I saw a small dance floor and the stage. I immediately noticed that the stage had several large black stains on what I think used to be carpet and the drapes by the stage were in really bad shape. Three TV were on and they were in three locations. Also a kino tv. As our server came back to tell me that the fries has salt on them already. Ok so can I have a small salad then, in which she said with a the greatest smile. Our food came next and the plates were REALLY HOT !! Not sure if it was microwaved or food heating lamps.. I have to say that the food lived up to great food standards. I had a great patty melt and my friend was pleasantly impressed with the food as well. I have to say, if it wasn't for the kindness of our server I would have walked (Ran) out of that place. Here are the number, in my humble opinion, on The Continental in Glendora. Appearance: Negative 12 out of 10. Food: OUTSTANDING 10 out of 10. Cost: 8 out of 10. Staff: Our server only 12+ out of 10. Return: I think you already know but it's a negative. Side note: I been in a lot of places but never so run down as this place. I felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. A lot of reviews on yelp and probably return customers and regulars. So many mixed reviews on this place, but was a place on my list from had to try. When I saw they had corned beef and cabbage for St Paddy's, that was my excuse. It was a Friday night and on my way home from a round of golf, so I ordered take out. Got there a little early, so had a chance to check the place out and loved the vibe. Live music in the bar, which was packed, and menu seemed interesting enough to bring me back. To start, the phone order was smooth and very friendly. Once I got there, I started up a conversation with the receptionist who took my order and the manager. We had a great conversation about the place and menu and how I wanted to try the place, but the mixed reviews might have kept me away. They really do seem to care and was so friendly, not sure where the mixed reviews come from but my experience was awesome. I had some extra time, so got a drink and listed to the band. Seems like a great weekend dinner and music night for the future. As for the food, the corned beef was awesome. Huger portion of beef, potatoes, carrots and cabbage for about $18. Came with bread and soup, which was clam chowder on this night (split pea was the other option). The soup and bread were delicious as well. Definitely warrants a return trip, where the Basque dinner is in my sights. read more

First time going, went to meet friends for a drink. It was a Friday night and the bar was very busy with a cover band playing. If you live a dive bar this may be right up your alley. I enjoyed the environment, pretty relaxed crowd, mix of young and old patrons. I will say the bartender poured a pretty heavy drink, I was drinking a vodka soda so an easy drink to make and I was happy that it was a lil in the strong side, but I can not speak on the quality of a mixed drink. Over all, I enjoyed my experience and will be back. On a side not, I heard the food from the restaurant side is good but I didn't try it. read more

We came to have lunch at the Continental and we ordered the prime rib and the tri tip. I did not wish to be impolite but I wanted to ask when did they shoot the horse. No disrespect to horses. The waiters was very nice. read more

The service was slow we had different servers attending to our table so when we ask for something like refill water it was forgotten as with the bill. Came here for karaoke on a Monday night, the ambiance was good enough. Generally and older crowd from what I hear. Drinks are decently priced, my only gripe with it was that the karaoke DJ only played the regulars. I definitely had my songs in, and I noticed that other singers were singing twice before I sang again. I mean I get it, you have to take care of your regulars, but with that being said, how am I supposed to become your regular if you don't make me feel welcomed. Unfortunately, this review was just on the karaoke not the establishment itself. I will have to come back on Wednesday to see how that night is. read more

I have been to Glendora resident for 16 years now and I have really fallen in love with this place over the last few years, In particular last night. I get together with my high school buddies every holiday season and we usually go to the Derby in Arcadia or the Dal Rae in Pico Rivera, this year we stayed home and hit The Continental. We made a great choice. The cocktails always solid. The service always solid. The food better than expected. Thank you so much for continuing to deliver such a quality product. Got here looking forward to having lunch on Sunday. Everyone was at the bar, and they greeted us right away. They had the football games on, and everyone was at the bar. We sat in a booth, and unfortunately, they don't do food on Sundays. They said in a month or two they will be. I am looking forward to coming back another time for lunch on Sunday. Very affordable prime rib place. Service is great, very helpful and friendly and the ambiance is chill, very mellow inside and dimmed lighting. I guess this is good for a drinking session night and a date night. Comy seats as well. read more

Lamb Shank. Fantastic. Ribeye. Awesome. This place is old school to the point of steamed veggies on the plate. Great portions, great service, strong cocktails, and a very lively aosphere in the bar. 0ne tipsy woman was tossing FBombs constantly and she's the cause of the last star. This is an update and it's week overdue. The restaurant is the last dinner house in Glendora and. The Continental has kept it's old time charm and quality in their food and service. The chef is amazing! I'm particular desserts!!! I usually get the chef's special, but the tried and trues stand on their own. I go always saying I'm going to try something different, I get the prime rib. My LAWD , that prime rib! Best in the area! The people who are serving are often the owners or family and are so friendly and polite. My father and his friends are regulars and they make sure they stop by, say hello and always know their particular order or preference. I'm the bar, I haven't been in years. However, I love they have live music and keep the locals entertained. The 5th Star is missing because while I love the old time atmosphere, some updating needs to be done. It was also an average of my 2 start prior, so, I would definitely recommend The Continental for a classic super house experience and great meal! read more

After using THEIR WEBSITE FOR PRICING we decided what we could afford and called in for take out. When we arrived we were suprised to get a total bill of 20% more than expected. When we showed the young lady the website prices she said she had to call the "manager" on the phone because she was not there. After the call she told us the manager said "we don't control the website we asked them to increase the prices they have no done it yet. It's not our fault that's the price" THIS IS THERE SITE not some 3rd party menu. Two stars instead of one because the food was good and the staff that was there was polite. read more

Came for a thanksgiving dinner with a large group. Was disrespected by the waiter immediately. Could tell she was not happy about having to work that night. Understandable, but doesn't give you the right to disrespect the people you're serving. They were serving prime rib as an option. See the pic for reference. I asked for a piece that was cooked more and the serve didn't even speak English. Will never be back. This property would do better as a McDonald's. read more

what do I say the Continental one of the last fine restaurants in glendora. they've all been chased off if it's the covid. the city taxes just Honduras. a tough place to run a business but they seem to survive. glad they got the restaurant because of service is very elegant in there and they have prime rib. they have karaoke, some pretty good bands sometimes and the ambience dining is very romantic LOL read more

Excellent little restaurant on historic Route 66 in Glendora. Stopped for lunch on a Thursday with a group of friends and sat at the cozy bar. Leather booths, dark and retro vibes. Waitress was attentive and allowed us time to linger for two hours. The food was delicious! I had the yummy split pea and ham soup with a half salad and iced tea. Fresh sourdough baguette on the table. Salad was crisp and delightful with strawberries apples feta and glazed walnuts. All for under $20, which I appreciated. Will definitely return if I'm ever in this area. read more

Great place to be surrounded by the older generation. Them forgotten men and women that told stories and fought in wars and listened to some of the best music around. The forgotten generation that was so unappreciated. The hard workers of yesterday. I for one appreciated it. The food was good. The place was quiet. They played old MTV videos on their vintage TVs when mtv actually played music. I would come back. Stop by and have a beer with the people from yeateryear buy them a beer and strike up a conversation. You won't be disappointed. read more

We have never had a bad meal at Glen. CONTINENTAL but tonight 9_13/25 was very disappointing. The prime rib was tough full of Grizzle clam chowder which is usually delicious was more like potatoes soup too much thickening not enough class scalloped potatoes needed salt or something. A group of seventeen of us had lunch today at The Glendora Continental. The food was wonderful as usual but we were all most impressed by our waitress, Renee. She was the only waitress on duty and served us as well as all of the others in the restaurant. She was friendly, cheerful, and did an awesome job of taking care of all of us, even accommodating our request for separate checks. Thank you. Renee, you are awesome! read more

A throw back in time. The decor was very late 70-80ish. Don't look for jazzy, fusion here. Just a plain old American restaurant with traditional American dishes. The lone server was excellent. But I can see service speed being an issue if crowded. Food was surprisingly good and good value with soup or salad. Banquette, and everything was cooked to order. I really appreciate the vegetable side were real veggies. Not the canned type you commonly see at diner. Soup/entre were all delicious, good portions, and piping hot. Will come back earlier next time to try early bird specials. I didn't give it 5 stars because the whole place really needs to be freshened up. read more

The service was great. I had the steak sandwich. The steak was tender, bread was very nice, the fries were crispy. We are in the dining room rather than the bar area. It was a very nice atmosphere and quiet comparatively. The prices were very competitive and varied enough to give most people something to offer. Will definitely be returning. read more

If a place could ever have negative stars they would succeed. I have never been here & was finally able to check it out after years of knowing about it. This has got to be the worst customer service ever. Not only did we wait two hours for a seat, the staff completely lied to our face about giving our seat away. The staff memory claiming to be the supervisor for that night, snapped at us for their mistake and their employee being upset. With customer service this horrible, I don't know how this place could ever be in business. Everyone has bad days. Every company makes mistakes. But to have the most disrespectful, customer service is another level. Customer service, is the key to everything with a business. read more

Can't say enough positives about the Glendora Continental. Try to come in when I'm in town for the vibe, good food, happy hour and friend servers. Brandi and Jessica are great! Earlier this week came in for the Salmon Power Bowl. Have been wanting to try this for awhile. This was delicious. Tonight had the Mahi Mahi tacos off the bar menu. Tried these for the first time and they were also really good. No secret I love this place and staff but honestly if you haven't been here lately you need to! read more

Made the mistake of going to Glendora Continental on Valentine's Day. I was informed this is a great place with a robust menu. Like other restaurants Continental had several appetizers and about ten $30+ main dishes. The taziki lamb with veg was passable but overcooked. The table also ordered a prime rib that looked good except for the huge vein of fat running through the cut. No draught beer was a surprise. The facility itself is quite dated, greasy torn carpets and men's bathroom desperately in need of modernization. We used to enjoy Burger Continental in Pasadena and perhaps mistakenly I thought they were their resurrection. Wait staff very friendly. Will not be returning in the near future. read more

So I've been curious about The Glendora Continental for a while now, and just before the pandemic we were gonna try them out but ya know--pandemic! ‍ My mom wanted lunch or brunch but all the places in Azusa and Glendora were full so we chatted her up about the menu at the Glendora Continental and she was sold on it! We opted for their super yummy lunch specials: the Rueben sandwich that comes with a side of soups or salad, the prime rib cooked to our liking that also came with a soup or salad (mom and I did the French onion soup and clam chowder), and my other brother got the ground steak lunch with was covered in this sumptuous gravy and mushrooms! To start we got the sautéed mushrooms that were cooked in butter and garlic and what may be a white wine reduction. They offer a Basque influenced menu and we're probably going to try the cheese and pickled tongue charcuterie plate next time, as well as the escargot. What has me giving this place five stars is the awesome service from our server, Kevin. Gotta give a shout-out to him. Just amazing service and conscientious of the new rules as we return from full masking. We enjoyed both the service and the quality food we had. The flavors of the starter were just off the hook! It also went well with our nicely toasted fresh French bread with butter! Our prime rib was cooked to our liking--and it just melted in my mouth, that's how tender it was! Soooo good! For dessert we had a double fudge chocolate cake with a big scoop of ice cream--perfect with a cup of coffee. Overall a meal that was both reasonably priced and service above par. We're definitely coming back again. I hear their cocktails at happy hour is also pretty good, so yeah I'm definitely coming back! Highly recommend this place. They currently have outdoor seating and indoor seating. Be conscientious of the mask rules and be mindful of our wonderful restaurant staff--they are doing their best during these times.
