Everyone knows restaurant prices are thru the roof as they're trying to make up for the Covid years. Every restaurant we go to, and we go to 1-2 a week every week, seems to see a dinner for 2 go higher and higher from $60-70-80-90 for a byob to $80-100-120-140 for a full bar and this latest to $155. While the service was wonderfully done by charming and friendly Waiter Lou and the sweet, dessert lady and the ambiance of this tastefully refurbished, oak mansion with lots of parking and a friendly valet were appreciated, all was compromised by the food prices. A glass of house wine at $11 is no big deal but we should have been told before we ordered appetizers at $13.95 each that a salad comes with the entree. The salad was good but over-dressed and therefore soggy in a thick, house Italian dressing which ruined it for my wife. I ordered a veal chop (delicious and tender) and didn't ask the price (too gauche?) but expected it to be in the $38-45 range and at $44.95 it was. Again; expected. However, my wife ordered sole (also very good) but the automatic side dish of risotto & fresh cheese (they're trying) was too cheesy and the fish was also $44.95. We've never seen a veal chop and a fish dish the same price. Again, we didn't ask the price. My bad? Desserts at $8 each isn't so bad either especially when you expect it. The check came but didn't include the itemized copy which they graciously supplied but it was wrong so they corrected it. We were told they fill up the room on the weekends and when we left at 7 it was 90% filled so they're doing well. Good for them! However, as we told Waiter Lou, the competition in their area is fierce so we'll be staying with a byob for the time being. Btw, we tipped Lou, the dessert waitress and valet separately. Gonna have to watch those prices, ask questions or just get used to it and go out less frequently. read more

I had my engagement party here and it was everything I wanted for my Fall-themed engagement party. This location is gorgeous between the outside to the fireplace and the main room in general. The food was delicious and everyone had a great time. The price was also SO REASONABLE for everything that was included. We eat here regularly and have never been disappointed. read more

Well I tried giving Giulio's another chance. This Charming location was worth giving another try. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre and the service was poor. Hostess was rude and unresponsive. Went for my birthday and everything about this place was amazing. Service was very prompt and the valet is much appreciated with all the snow. They've adapted the old house very well to work as a restaurant and we really enjoyed the homey interior. I had the Lobster Ravioli and while it might've been a bit too rich for me I can definitely see why people like it. Check it out! read more

this place is just okay. staff was somewhat standoffish and unfriendly (not rude but not exactly welcoming). the builiding is really beautiful but it was super bright inside and i felt like the place lacked ambiance. the food was just okay. nothing special. seemed to me like their dishes are aimed at quantity and not quality. i needed to wrap both my appetizer and entree (so large!). even the complimentary salad was a generous helping. and though the dressing on this was great, it was basically a pile of mixed greens with one giant tomato wedge. everything we had ate was average although the filet mignon with my surf and turf was delicious. there are much better italian places in the area than this one so likely we wont be visiting here again. read more

My husband and I got married here in 2018. We went back in 2019 for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. After the pandemic, they closed for a short time, then, reopened under new management. The place has completely changed. They painted the walls white and installed white shades to make the place brighter, and they tore up all of the carpet to make it look more like a restaurant rather than a home (which is what it originally was.)We love that homie feeling. That's why my husband and I chose to get married there. We loved the home like atmosphere. They sanded the floors. They still feel rough like someone forgot to sweep. The floors are raw. It looks like crap! I hope they don't leave the floors looking the way they do right now. Luckily, the food (although a smaller menu) is still really good. read more

my father loved vicolo's and tonight we went to their new spot, Giulio's. If you love history you will love the building. It's an old victorian house built in around 1880. . The woodwork, original doors, etc are stunning . Top notch service, really good food and portions too big! we had the stuffed zucchini blossoms, clams oreganata, chilean sea bass and cowboy steak. food was cooked to perfection and served steaming hot. Another excellent large catering order from Giulio's Restaurant. The portions are great, and the food never disappoints, especially the eggplant parm and chicken francese. Went there tonight...was so excited to see that they were the originally from Vicollo restaurant and that they have fresh pasta. Sat down ...the waiter Dave talked WAY too much... We went here for the first time because we heard they had a great gluten free menu, in addition to their regular menu. Well, they do! The bonus was that the restaurant is really pretty! Upon arrival, you encounter, what looks like, a charming home with lovely paintings on the wall. The restaurant is inviting and the staff are friendly and helpful. The menu is varied, with pastas, risottos, steaks, and more! We enjoyed all of the dishes we tried. I know that we will be back!! read more

It's been a go to place for the past year. Always happy with Giulio's in the past and even happier for past year. Food is excellent and the service has always been professional. I have had the double cut pork, tomahawk ribeye, double cut veal chop and gnocchi and have been very satisfied with the meals. The owner is very welcoming and the staff is wonderful. I took a chance, bought dinner for four to take my brother and his wife out for dinner for my brothers birthday. The restaurant did not disappoint. We were all impressed starting with the beautiful old home and the decor, the ambiance was calming and elegant. The service was amazing. We were seated in our own room, and the staff treated us like we were celebrities. Each course was brought out at the same time with no one waiting for the other person to start eating. The food was the perfect temperature, and delicious. What was more impressive was their selection of gluten free entrees, and desserts. I haven't been to this restaurant in over 30 years. I heard there were new owners, so I thought the food may have improved. That is definitely not the case! The food was quite disappointing from the soggy salad to the undercooked homemade pasta along with the shrimp from the shrimp cocktail, that literally made my husband sick! I really don't know how this restaurant still exists! This place is a lot like the restaurants were in Rockland County 40 years ago, in a word terrible! Beware! To add insult to injury a group of six people were seated right next to us almost at the beginning of our meal, and someone in the party smelled horribly of potpourri or the worst cologne I have ever smelled. It was a terrible experience, and I think restaurant managers should be aware of something like this and put a group like this in a corner by themselves! read more

This is a 2 star place. Yes the ambiance is very nice and the decor was great. The service was great too. So what's the problem? The food. For the price, it is lacking. I went to a price fixed dinner here for $55 per person. The salmon that started the meal was a great looking piece of fish. But whoever seasoned it dropped it in a tub of salt first. It was overbearing to the point of being inedible. It looked so good too. Such a waste. Then on the other end of the spectrum the other courses had no flavor whatsoever. There was a pheasant dish that had no seasoning and could be disguised for chicken. The other entrees had the same no taste profile. If you were to blindfold me and let me taste them, I could not have guessed what it was. For $55, I expect a little more. The entire meal tasted like $25 at the most and being generous. I agree with the other reviewer that said the food was cold and then warmed up like banquet food. Even with a price fixed, these should be cooked to order, not cooked a day (or hours) in advance and then reheated. Not when you charge $55 for the meal. They need some better chefs and better ways of expediting so food arrives tasty and hot. I think you can get a better meal for less, somewhere else. read more

What didn't we like? The lunch menu is diversified, plentiful and delicious! We have gone to Vicolo in the past but the owner bought Guilio's in Old Tappan and has transformed it into a fantastic, affordable place to spend time and enjoy great food with friends. I had the garlic potato soup of the day. (OMG!). My friends then had the fish and chicken parm and I had veal And mushrooms followed by fantastic mousse cake and nice hearty coffee. I can't wait to go back. We even met some old timers from the Bronx at an adjoining table and it turned into a party, almost! Lol. Don't pass this place up, peeps! Your loss if you do! read more

Would never go back to this restaurant. The service was terrible. It started off ok, the server took our drink order and then food order and that was the last time we saw him. Ordered desert and coffee from a young girl. Dessert came and was finished but never got our coffee. We had to ask the girl clearing our plates for our coffee then 3 cappuccinos came out but not the other two. There were multiple tables that were seated after us, they ate and left before us. We were there 3 1/2 hours and felt ignored. It took use 30 minutes to find someone to ask for a check. We were going to just leave. The manager or owner had an attitude and didn't apologize. All we heard was there were 2 parties going on. Only 2 out of 5 of us thought their food was ok. Food was not worth the prices they charge. It was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. read more

I have been to Giulio's a few times and each time I go the experience gets better and better. Anthony one of the owners is so pleasant and friendly and makes you feel like you are in his own home. The wait staff is equally friendly and very attentive. I went last night for my birthday. We started with the fried calamari Giulio's style. We should have ordered two. It was delicious. I order it every time I go and it gets better every time. We also had the beet salad which was delicious as well. My daughter, her boyfriend and I had the filet mignon ala cognac. Simply amazing. Cooked perfectly and the cream sauce was out of this world. We all ate every last bite. My younger son who is a picky eater had the chicken scarpariello and he ate every last bite and kept saying how much he loved it. It was a wonderful birthday spent with my beautiful children at my favorite restaurant! I might go back tonight to get the calamari again! I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Giulios never disappoints. Always a wonderful and delicious dinner. Food is coiled to order so you do not feel rushed here. It takes ample amount of time for weekend nights, not too long, and not rushed either. I'm posting some pictures of our most recent visit. We started with the meatballs in puff pastry, fried calamari traditional, tortellini en brodo soups, & beet salad. Sorry didn't get to take pictures of those. Entrees, bronzino (filet with veggies) seafood oreganata with risotto, shrimp & lobster risotto, & chicken cristenzo? which is close to parm, but has eggplant and is served with rigatoni bolognese. The rigatoni is one of the most delicious I've even had, it's made with a touch of cream and really puts it over the top delicious!! Desserts we got, creme brulee, pecan something - which was out of this world, almost like pecan pie minus the crust! Sorry no dessert pictures either. We couldn't help ourselves! We enjoyed a great meal last night at Giulio's. We ate outside on the porch of this beautiful place and the atmosphere was perfect. The service was very attentive and the food was terrific. From the start - with my Giulio's salad to the last delicious bite of a zeppole...it was a great meal. We also enjoyed learning about the history of the building and property. I ignored the advice of friends who've recently tried this revival of Giulio's and didn't have good experiences. After waiting in the lobby for nearly 10 minutes I can say their assessment of the service as being "slow and rude" was generous because I would say they were discourteous and obnoxious. The owner(?) was so exceptionally arrogant and curt that I can honestly say I will never be back and will discourage friends from making the same mistake. In addition to being decades too young to enjoy the crowd (think retirement home on lunch field trip) I couldn't stand the stench. Unfortunately this once beautiful Victorian home and now my clothes carry the stale smell of burnt oil and garlic. After an interaction with the owner I didn't even make it to ordering food. I left and returned home to wash my hair and drop off my coat at the dry cleaners. There are too many wonderful local restaurants to ever return to this failure. read more

Calamari Giulio's was delish. Rest of the meal wasn't all that we had hoped for. Poor quality Rib-Eye that lacked any seasoning. Veal Valdostana that was just swimming in liquid. Great food and service in a beautiful setting. I've eaten dinner here many times and always have a wonderful experience. I recently hosted my daughter's bridal shower here and everything was executed perfectly-exceeding my already high expectations. My daughter and all of her guests had the greatest time. I also thought it was an excellent value for the quality and amount of food and outstanding service we received.
