I came here after the Field Museum. It was pretty busy and there was always a steady stream of guests. My husband and I shared the Bruschetta which was SO flavorful and SO fresh. We also shared 2 pizzas. A margarita tavern style pizza and a meat pizza for deep dish. As much as I love deep dish, I actually think the tavern style was my favorite between the two. I overestimated the 10-inch size and should have stuck with a personal pie since it was just me. The personal would've been just fine since the 10-inch can feed up to 3 people. The wait was about 30-45 mins to get the pizza, but it was well worth it. Very delicious, especially with the Calabrian chili honey sauce that was served on the side. As a New Yorker who swears only by New York-style pizza, I recommend trying the deep dish at Giordano's! Mmmmm.....pizza. Me love pizza of all types. A group of us from our running club gathered here to devour some deep dish pizza after running the Chicago marathon. What better way to refuel after 26.2 grueling miles than with a cheesy deep dish filled pizza? This place is a short walk from the Field Museum. We came for lunch, and upon entering we were immediately seated. Nice artwork on the walls, it was warm in comparison to the temperature outside. We had Calamari, cheese wedges, a deep dish, a tavern style and the lasagna. All the food was good, but the Calamari was exceptional. I've never had it with banana peppers and lemon rings, but I absolutely loved it. My hubby loved his deep dish, but the bell pepper was under the cheese so I couldn't pick it off. It was a no go for me. I tried my daughter's lasagna and regretted ordering pizza at that moment. It was amazing. I've never had tavern style before, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Everything could improve. We arrived 30 minutes after they opened. It was 1 server for the whole restaurant. When he finally got to us, we repeated our orders twice to the server. Had try Chicago's famous deep dish pizza. Found this place near the hotel we stayed so walked over for a bite. Ordered the vegetarian small to share as the slices were literally three inches thick and both of us were on a carb restricted diet. Surprisingly not as much dough as we were expecting (plus). Beware of the waiter Steven, who very rudely took our order (he ignored me twice, putting his elbows on our table and fiddling with the order pad, and then asked me to repeat my order each time while ignoring me). He finally said that the Internet wasn't working and had me repeat our order a third time before disappearing - never coming to check on us or give us water. We couldn't even flag him down because he went off to the kitchen and wouldn't even look our way the entire hour we were there. He came by at some point to drop off our starter but didn't even make eye contact or say anything to us like it was a drive-by, so we didn't even have a chance to ask for water or napkins or anything we needed. One of the other servers ended up helping us out the rest of the night, and Steven didn't come back to us at all the whole night until it was time to collect the check and tip. He suddenly was trying to be super nice telling us he "appreciated our patience" and stood over us to watch as we paid to try to pressure us into tipping for service that we didn't even receive. The real star was the pizza! Our takeout thin crust was the "super veggie", with black olives over the mozzarella, hiding a generous layer of mushrooms, green peppers, onions, broccoli, and spinach. Even the kids liked it! We loved the (mid-September '24) 50-yr-celebration special Calabrian Sweet and Spicy Chicken-Sausage deep dish, designed by a Michelin-starred guest-chef. Service was friendly but a little slow, understandable as they were catering to the influx of diners during the dinner rush. The food was great and the pizza lived up to the hype for us, especially for my husband. Our order consisted of: - Giordano's Sampler (for an appetizer) - a small deep dish Chicago Classic - a personal size deep dish with pepperoni and pineapple Everything from the appetizer to both pizzas was delicious. We especially enjoyed the bruschetta and mozzarella triangles from the appetizer. Both pizzas were also cooked to perfection. Everything tasted fresh and of good quality. Service was pretty average, nothing special. We really liked all the food we ordered though! The beef arancini stole the show for us, they were served with marinara and beef au jus--both paired so well with the arancini. Side Caesar salads were only $6 and were a pretty decent size! Plenty of dressing and toppings. We split a deep dish pizza, as you do when in Chicago! We went with The Special which had sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, and onions. We've had other deep dish pizza in Chicago with better Italian sausage that tasted homemade, this sausage was still good but not quite like the other place. There was a good amount of sauce and cheese mixed in with the ingredients and it all stayed together nicely despite how much was packed inside each slice. The small was a perfect size for 2 people, we even took home some leftovers! This location is awful. Been here twice and issues both times. Staff does not care that you get the wrong pizza or that it is raw. First visit got the wrong pizza and was told tough luck while the staff argued about tips and seating. Reported to corp. and was told to email the store. No response in months from this location. Ordered take out this time and told 45 minutes to bake. Received pizza in 25 minutes, great! Problem is that the pizza was raw in the middle, which I asked the staff about. Told that is the way it is. Been to other locations and never ran into these issues. Was told there was nothing they could or would do, then told to email this same email address from my first visit. Yes they are famous for the deep dish Chicago pies but I left unimpressed. I visited this location because it was only 2 blocks from my hotel as opposed to another one on Michigan Ave. further north about a mile. When I arrived on a weekday night it was almost empty. I ordered the personal sized (6") deep dish pizza with my selected toppings of seasoned beef, onions and mushrooms for $16. I asked for a beer too with the meal as my waiter brought me a glass of ice water. It took about 25 minutes for my food to arrive and it was delivered by a person other than my waiter. It looked big and I enjoyed the double crust with cheese in between but my ingredients bathed in their marinara sauce was a little soupy. I would have liked it more firm. Taste wise it was ok but the best part was the crust and cheese. I never saw my beer along with my waiter until I was through. He never checked on me so I had my pizza with a glass of water. When he brought me the check he did on his own refill my water glass. In other words my table service was practically non existent. The pizza was a 3 but the service was a 1. This location has big glass windows looking out on Michigan Avenue and is attractively decorated with local art, posters, etc. and several TV's. It has a large full bar area too. read more
