This Vietnamese outlet resembles a takeout place, but really is a place to buy food to take home, since the food doesn't come ready to eat. That minor flaw aside, it's cheap & good.
The pork spring rolls were pretty good (and only $1 each with a minimum purchase of 4 - they must be the cheapest Vietnamese spring rolls in Canada!) They had a good balance of meat, vermicelli, carrot & fungus (which gave them a nice crunch). Though not warm, they were still crispy. They did not come with fish sauce - this is the first Vietnamese place I've been to which doesn't provide any fish sauce with spring rolls. Presumably the idea is patrons will bring the spring rolls home & pair them with their own fish sauce.
In the fridge were cups filled either with basil seeds or coconut milk, jelly strips, nata de coco cubes, longan & jackfruit. I had one of the latter (only $3.40). It was good, though very sweet & too thick with ingredients when drunk on its own. But then, I had been advised to dilute it; what I had thought was a drink was really a concentrated dessert. When I added some water it was better. The basil seeds probably worked in a similar way.
They also sell fried tofu, fried ham, fried fish (ham) & drinks (pre-made in sealed cups that you take from the counter - but they're not cold, so they're not ready to drink). There's also sweet tofu, pandan tofu & some other odds & ends. read more
