    a colorful plate of food
    Melanie T.

Long ago, I could only eat this whenever I traveled to San Gabriel Valley. I'm happy to see many Asian cuisine options popping up in Colorado in the last couple of years. This is the only place that I have been to in Colorado and there's a reason I keep coming back because the banh uot is super yummy. My family likes to buy cha from here and cut it up and place it on time along with fish sauce, fried onions, cucumbers, bean sprouts, and lettuce/herbs. Get a big plate if you want to eat like this because things will fall over.

Tried to wait till I got home, but one bite in my car and I ended sitting there in the parking lot for 15 minutes eating!

When you think of Vietnamese, Americans tend to think of Pho, noodle bowls and lemongrass chicken but we need more places the focuses in home cooking and dishes that locals eat. Ingredients are fresh and dishes pack a powerful flavor bomb...I mean wow! The use of shrimp paste and other traditional ingredients really elevate flavors that many Americans are not used to, but you have to try it to understand. Their claypots are a must order and with a side of rice....you'll be eating for days! The star of the night was the pork and calamari claypot which is cooked in shrimp paste and your favorite Vietnamese spices and herbs. You'll finish bowls of rice with this dish, it packs so much flavor that you'll be wanting more. It's a great mix of salty, sweet and umami from the fermented shrimp paste. The Vietnamese curry was thick and packed with succulent shrimp. The veggies at a very nice brightness to balance out the coconut milk. The last dish we had was a shrimp lemon grass in the clay pot and that was also a hit with everyone! Service is amazing and they definitely know how to recommend dishes to match your taste buds. They went out of the way to help everyone and it shows. If you need a new spot, check Dan Da!

I tried the banana coconut rum cake (hit the spot even though I'm not a big rum cake fun), and couldn't resist adding two cookies: the brown butter chocolate chip and the banana cookie. Both were excellent, but the banana cookie was a standout; it tasted just like banana bread, which I love. They were sadly sold out of the banana cream pie brioche donut, so I'll definitely be back earlier next time to snag one.

I had a dinner reservation for 1 at 5:30pm on a Sunday night. First off, I appreciate that they let me have a table seat to myself. I know a lot of places that want solo diners at the bar. My waitress was absolutely perfect, she gave me such excellent recommendations and really helped shape my meal. Everything she recommended was fantastic. I had 3 dishes, because I wanted to try everything. I would've been fine with 2, since these portion sizes were pretty generous, but I just had to. My first dish was the trứng và trứng - soft scrambled egg, brown butter, fish sauce, trout roe, rice. This was so comforting, so homey, so warm. It was exactly what I needed after a long weekend of working. Get this. My second dish was the tàu hũ ky cuộn tôm - shrimp cake, butter, trout roe, mint. You're probably thinking this is like a fried crab cake, but it wasn't. There's basically no breadcrumbs in this, so it's more like when you get shrimp paste at hot pot. It was so tender, moist, and so flavorful. And of course, my veggie choice was the bắp cải luộc - charred cabbage, anchovy breadcrumbs, egg yolk. My waitress had said this was basically if they put charred cabbage on top of the filling in a deviled egg and she was right. This was so good. If you're into deviled eggs at all, get this.

I heard good things about this restaurant even though it is in a sketchier part of town. The restaurant feels clean and lounge-y because of the lights and sakura trees. They have a restroom in the back. Parking was easy in their lot. I had to wait for someone to leave before I could finally park. Next door to O Lien is a Louisiana crawfish spot. The menu is extensive. You can choose rice or noodles. They have a lot of different appetizers too. The bun bo hue is popular because of the rib bone. The meat portion size is good. Pho is 15% off everyday after 4PM! The A5 cha gio (egg rolls) are good. One order is $7.99 and comes with two pieces but cut in half. They were served with noodles. I wish they had more greens. BBH6 King bun bo hue was good. At $24.99, it came with all the meats, including the bone rib and pork knuckle. It wasn't spicy, but the spicy sauce they had at the table was very spicy. C5 shrimp rice plate $15.99 came with 2 egg rolls. The shrimp was grilled nicely, and the steamed rice (not broken rice) was good. Service was really good. They took care of us even though it was hectic. They were patient and didn't rush us. You have to pay at the register. Credit card / tap pay is accepted. No outdoor seating.

Well that's how I felt this morning, so VinaMeals was where I ended. I ordered two items, so join me and read my food journey... Just had bánh ít tràn, a Vietnamese, steamed sticky rice dumplings dish. This dish reminds me of my mom's cooking where she used to make us this dish all the time to eat for breakfast. Lots ingredients inside the these three dumplings including mung bean, wood ear mushroom, jicama carrot, onion, garlic, minced with pork and shrimp. It came with steamed bean sprouts, cucumber, and fish sauce to dip the dumplings or just pour over the dish. I felt the accommodating items didn't add any value to this dish, but boy, did these dumplings bring back good memory. Of course, when you are here, you have to get their small wonton soup. It is one of the best I have ever eaten. I believe the broth that is the star, and the wontons come very close but just a second too late. This small soup is very filling, and I always wonder if adding a bowl of plain rice into the soup will make this dish a complete meal. We will have to find out later. As I am sitting here writing this review, I am truly enjoying the atmosphere. Listening to the music over my head, I am sing a little bit too loud, louder than mouthing the words.
