Came here for my friend's birthday yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. The decor is sleek and modern, it wasn't decorated like a traditional Italian restaurant. The workers were smiling and very much helpful. The patrons in the restaurant did make a couple of my friends feel uncomfortable with consistent staring. We had a pre-fixed lunch/dinner. Ginos has a big back room for large parties and we were seated there. I got a glance at their backyard area and it was nicely decorated. There was a bit of a wait for the drinks and the appetizers, and I think it's because they were waiting for the rest of the party to show. A couple of us had to return some glasses due totem being dirty, when given new ones, they were quite clean. In regards to the drinks, we had Pepsi, Ginger Ale, and white and red wine. I stuck to the Pinot Giorgio that was served, and it was pretty decent. The only thing I would've done is kept all the wine white, but I understand for different pallets they have to offer both. For the appetizers. we had baked clams, salad, tomatoes and ricotta cheese, and calamari. Everything was pretty decent, but the salad stood out. The dressing was light and flavorful and the veggies were fresh. At Gino's, they bring everything in courses, so next was pasta. They serve their plates family style, so we had Penne Alla Vodka and the Rigatoni. They were both delicious and the plates were gone in a matter of seconds. Portion-wise, I think the sizes were a bit on the smaller side. The final course before dessert was meat/seafood. There was salmon, chicken parmesan, and veal. I'm not a fan of veal, so I didn't try it, but the Salmon was decent, and the Chicken Parm was the star. It was so good that we had to ask for more Penne to go with it. There were also green beans & potatoes. I was saving the 0.25% left for dessert, so I didn't indulge. Finally, we sang happy birthday and had our dessert. I liked that they gave everyone different pieces of cake on these platters and got to choose what we wanted. The chocolate cake I had was great very tasty. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would recommend this place for a birthday dinner or even a lunch or dinner date. Valentine's Day was crazy busy but in a nice way. It was quite the place to be! There were couples with gifts and flowers, and some were so dressed up! I thought the holidays were busy- but February 14th was over-the-top! The food was plated beautifully and tasted delicious! Interestingly I got the same waiter as my first visit! This time around he gave fast and accurate service with 2 polite check-ins. My mussels were so good. They were large, plump and juicy with a delicious broth. Ever been to one of those restaurants that seem to just, stand out? Well, this one rings true to that description. Yes, the food is a bit on the pricey side, but try finding such a relaxed, yet refined Italian dining experiences that would make the Corleone and the Vario families join forces. Okay, that last sentence might be a stretch. But I stand by my original position, the food here is good. I took my server's suggestions at every turn. The fried calamari is delicious, despite me getting mostly rings. I am not one of those people who gets disgusted by tentacles. Give me those with some rings and a homemade marinara sauce and I will eat it. In any event, it is delicious. The free bread is also wonderful. It is soft and chewy without any flash. My server allowed me to keep the marinara sauce from my calamari as a second dipping sauce. A solid move on my part. My main course, the rigatoni with chicken and peas over vodka sauce, is splendid. The pasta is perfectly cooked, so are the peas. I did complain about the fact the chicken was slightly overcooked, but it balances out because the sauce was delicious and the pasta and peas mellow that char that can make over cooked chicken unpleasant on the palate. I had to get dessert, because of the gloomy weather and I needed more. My server suggested the apple tart. It comes with vanilla ice cream but I talked him out of giving it to me. Again, it was the right move. The ice cream had ice chips in it and was highly unpleasant. However, the tart has a delicious and deep apple flavor with a nice balance of cream. It works well. Now that I know what to expect, you can expect me to return. This restaurant was like walking into a Time machine, sending me back to the Bay Ridge of the 1960's and 1970's, when Brooklyn was gritty and the accent meant something more than just a stereotype. My family and I had dinner at Gino's Saturday night to celebrate my daughter's birthday and we had a great time. I highly suggest you make reservations because they get very busy. They cater to groups as well. We had reservations for 6pm, we got there about 10 minutes early and was seated within 5 minutes. The staff is friendly and accommodating. As mentioned before, they get very busy but the waiters make sure they're on top of their game to check on you. The food is absolutely amazing The calamari was cooked perfectly and so was the rigatoni dish I ordered. I can't forget the desserts...the cheesecake was perfect and the tiramisu was delicious. My office has ordered from here a few times for lunch and honestly every time the food has been overpriced and disappointing. The most recent time we ordered from there I got the linguine with clam sauce and it was not good at all. It was basically a ton of bland linguine with a sprinkle of tiny clams and broccoli with the smallest amount of sauce. There was barely any flavor. However, the food was absolutely swimming in grease on the outside. Would definitely not recommend at all. On Wednesday, from 4 PM to 6:30 PM, you can get 20% off your bill for parties of 10 or fewer. Thursday offers a first responder/military discount of 15% off from 4 PM to 8 PM. This place has been around for a long time and for good reason! Their pizza is so delicious, my all time fave is their rigatoni alla vodka with shrimp. I've been able to taste a variety of dishes multiple times at family functions (they cater!) eggplant parmigiana , rice balls, potato croquets (family fave) chicken parmigiana, meatball parmigiana, calamari and mixed green salad, I could go on! I have been to Gino's twice: the first time the food was good (a 4 star level) but our whole family ended up with stomach issues. We have no proof that this originated in Gino's so I give them the benefit of a doubt. The next time we had a reservation and came in to a long line of people waiting for theirs, with a 20-30 min wait time. Lightly coated with sauce over al dente pasta - easy 10/10 Happily ordered from Gino's this past Sunday for my birthday dinner with the fam, and was once again thoroughly happy with everything we ordered! Besides the fettuccine, we ordered fried zucchini sticks and fried calamari to start, two ordered of penne vodka with chicken and an order of meat lasagna. The fried zucchini was a bit soggy, but that's expected for delivery; it's not the same as eating inside the place. The calamari was a HUGE hit and was gone before I could get a good helping. My father in law was a bit disappointed with the meat lasagna, as it was sitting in quite a lot of sauce. The lasagna was made fresh, but it was just okay in his book. Maybe if there was a bigger piece of lasagna cut, there would've been less sauce? Not sure, but the portion was decent. The penne vodka with chicken is always a staple every time we order, and is a general crowd pleaser. If in doubt what to order, that's the dish to get! Totally fine if nothing spectacular. Went with my brother and two of his friends as he moved nearby last week. Went late on a weekend afternoon, ate outside and it was an overall pleasant experience. Service was polite if quite slow and for the most part the food was very good. Here's what we tried: 1. Baked clams -- more breadcrumbs than anything else, the worst thing we tried; 2. Fried zucchini -- adeptly fried but screaming for seasoning; 3. Chicken Francaise -- my brother's friend liked the chicken and the sauce but said the penne was a bit over cooked; 4. Shrimp marinara -- very good; nice and bright marinara and plump shrimp; 5. Seafood salad -- excellent. Shrimp, octopus and squid were all fresh, salad was seasoned perfectly and (most importantly) squid wasn't rubbery; 6. Pasta e fagioli -- some of the best I've ever had; huge portion too. Had a reservation for 4 tonight, we arrive on time and they looked packed. The hostess tells us we had to wait, and to make matters worse she says she can't give us a time estimate on how long our table will be ready even though we had a reservation. She takes down my cellphone number and I tell her we are waiting outside and she said we will get a text when the table is ready. 20 mins of waiting and still no text, we end up going to another nearby restaurant and had dinner there instead. Whole night goes by and never got the text that our table was ready so good thing we went elsewhere. I don't understand the point of taking a reservation made days before and not be able to sit you. What a disappointment! They can't cook here. Italian food, I don't think so. We had chicken Rollatini. A disaster. They told me that it will be in a Marsala sauce it came in light yellowish sauce that I don't know what to call sauce. The mushrooms were on the plate like a Marsala sauce but no way a Marsala sauce. The Rollatini itself was rolled chicken with cheese inside and bread crumbs that were falling apart from the chicken. It almost look like potato Croquettes. Another disappointment. I can't speak for the dining experience since I actually never ate in the restaurant, always delivery or pick-up, yeah, I can't believe it either. But anyways the pizza, I think the secret is the sauce, it's just so delicious. I never feel satisfied when I order from other pizzerias. The pizza guys up front are always very nice and pleasant. I'm currently on a re-watch of The Sopranos and since 85% of that show is people eating Italian food, I began to crave it pretty hardcore. Naturally, that meant trekking down to Bay Ridge, where some of Brooklyn's best "red sauce restaurants" are located, and Gino's is no exception. Gino's is a white tablecloth establishment, perfect for a nice family meal, a date, or in my case, a late lunch on a weekday. I was not disappointed in my meal and my craving was more than satisfied. I started off with the baked clams, which are served practically swimming in a garlicky broth and melted butter that is perfect for dipping your bread in after. I love ordering baked clams because, to me, it is the quintessential Italian appetizer. It's not too filling, packed with flavor, and if the clams are cooked just right, it is every bit satisfying. Gino's clams were delicious, although juuuuust slightly overdone, therefore a bit chewy. This did not take anything away from the dish, however. It was a great way to kick things off and I practically could hear the Sopranos theme song in my head while I speared through each clam with my fork. For my entree, I went with the chicken parm, a tried and true dish that may never become a cliche. Gino's handled this well. The portion, first off, was **generous**. A heaping serving of al dente spaghetti (or you can choose ziti) acted as the Carmela to the chicken's Tony. And speaking of that chicken, delicious! Pounded down to a beautifully thin cutlet, then lightly fried and blanketed with red sauce and gooey mozzarella cheese. Needless to say, I was full and satisfied, like a made man!
