Stopped at this bakery this past weekend on a Saturday. Even though I arrived late, was glad to pick up a Thanksgiving cookie, and fresh Italian bread sliced. Though, I would have prefered it without the seeds, the taste alone with or without seeds didnt matter was your authentic Italian bread. I think they must run out of things earlier on in the morning, as it was pretty empty when I arrived mid afternoon. Still a pleasent experience for a fast bakery visit.

Gino works a bakery all day

I thought Gino worked a diner all day. Jon told me. Turns out Gino actually works an Italian Bakery, but not all day. Just until he runs out of stuff, which is often early. This is a nice bakery with really nice service that runs out of everything really early. I would have thought that since I came all the way here after calling ahead and then they were out of everything that they said they had half an hour earlier that I would have been given some consideration, but no, so I just bought whatever was left over and I thought it was really good. Bordering on five star but until I get to try all the stuff that keeps selling out I will give it a four. Very healthy four. With 5 stars for the nice lady working here.

Ricotta log and canoli freshly filled to order...minus one that's now in my tummy.

Ginos Italian Bakery has many delicious offerings to choose from. Italian specialty cookies, pastries and cakes. I've had some of the cookies and enjoyed them, but I usually come for the Ricotta Log. An $8 breakfast danish filled with canoli-type filling made of ricotta, sugar, vanilla, and chocolate chips. You cant find that available at most bakeries, so it's a treat. I find that they tend to frost all of their baked goods very heavily, so if your not a fan of overly sweet desserts, you may not prefer these. The pastaccoti are very tender but over frosted, in my opinion. I have to be in the mood. They carry sfingi only around the St. JOSEPH'S holiday. I have yet to try the cassata, but hear the cupcakes are great. The canoli is filled when you order it, as it should be, so it doesn't get soggy. The shell is thicker than im used to, but its still bubbly and freshly fried. The filling is not very sweet. Great for people who like that lighter type of dessert. Everything is freshly made and made with good quality ingredients. They also sell a Tomato Pie by the $2 slice which reminds me of my grandma's old world pizza. The new location on Kenmore Ave is convient for me, but not as visually appealing as the old bakery on Hertel. The building is old, not very well kept up by the landlord and small. The old cement steps are crumbling. The space seems too small and crowded for the busy and talented bakers.

Tomato Pie similar to what you get in Utica. Not many places know or even make tomato pie in WNY.

Just as I was about to go in the place must have caught fire. Yikes! A man was leaving the bakery with as many loaves of bread as he could carry. I investigated. Sure enough, the store was filled with firemen. I couldn't get in. It turns out the firemen were buying a lot of baked goods. Whew! And the guy carrying all the loaves of bread was a caterer. He bought 50 loaves of Luigi's delicious bread. He explained he was catering a 50th wedding anniversary, and the celebrants wanted a loaf of Luigi's bread for each of their 50 years. I'm not kidding! I bought only 4 loves of bread. They were out of my favorite - sesame seeded Italian so I had to go with plain. They have a trick with their bread. They don't use preservatives, so you have to eat it within 2 days and then go back for more. It's a trap! They were out of almond and poppy seed strudel thingys, so I settled for apple, blueberry and cherry. I tried the lemon cake and it's great. But my favorite thing was the almond cake. Absolutely dreamy. It didn't make it home because I stopped at a friend's house on the way home to share some. All I got was just one slice. And I ate that before I had a chance to take its picture.

The Hello Dollies were absolutely delicious those were a definite highlight. Unfortunately, the cupcakes weren't what I was hoping for. I can't pinpoint exactly what was missing, but the flavors just didn't stand out to me the way I expected. I did try to ask a few questions about wedding tastings while I was there, but the worker helping me didn't seem very enthusiastic or willing to offer much guidance. Since this is such an important part of planning my wedding, that part of the experience felt a bit disappointing. Overall, while I was really rooting for this to be "the place" especially since it's a big and popular bakery I don't feel confident moving forward with them for my wedding desserts. I truly wanted to love everything, but the tasting just didn't click for me.

From the mini cakes, custom cakes, and cupcakes, you can NOT go wrong. My go to is the killer chocolate cupcake. The ambiance is a cross between your grandma's living room and a neighborhood cafe. There's breads, coffees, specialty drinks, cakes, cookies, pastries, and to go cakes. The service ranges from stellar to ok. On average, pretty good. I've never been disappointed with my treats and I'm a bit of a bake good snob as I'm a home baker myself. I live no where near here and don't mind a drive here for a great treat to self indulge or to share. Check them out!

Cuccidati Inc. had a booth at the event ... and they had me at the word "cuccidati". :-D LOVE these cookies! If you are unfamiliar, cuccidati are iced-and-sprinkled fig-filled Italian cookies. They're like a soft, delectable, gourmet, top-shelf, high-class, prettier Fig Newton, but way better, haha. Whenever I see an Italian cookie spread at a gathering, I always b-line for dibbs on the cuccidati. And Cuccidati Inc.'s cuccidati did not disappoint! These were a bit different from cuccidati I've had before. They weren't quite as sweet, not as thick-white of an icing as usual. And the filling seemed more natural, like more purely fig, as opposed to the more artificial extract flavor of some cuccidati. I do like the creamier cuccidati filling I'm used to, with more of a jam consistency. But these were good too, you could feel chewy bits of real fig fruit in each bite. If you prefer a cookie that isn't too rattle-your-teeth-sweet, you will probably enjoy Cuccidati Inc.'s cookies very much. We spoke with the owners when we were at the fresh-air market, and they were very sweet and friendly. They of course bake their namesake, but also bake many other cookies too. They don't have their own storefront, they sell by order, or at local venues and events. They are on the shelves at Buffalo Artisan Food Traders (https://www.yelp.com/biz/buffalo-artisan-food-traders-buffalo), so if you have a hankering for some delicious cuccidati, stop by there to grab a pack. Or check Cuccidati Inc.'s Facebook page for other upcoming local appearances - https://www.facebook.com/cuccidati.org - and mangia! :-D
