Very unassuming and you could easily pass it by ut you weren't looking for it.
Corwin S.

The location was small and not visually appealing. The was a small selection of breads, the case. I asked for Donuts and was told no Donuts today, Monday thru Saturday only. The employees were Xtra friendly and helpful. A pleasant greeting was offered to each person who walked in the door, and surprisingly that was several. Mostly bread only purchases of which again, they had a minimal assortment. Overall my experience was not as positive as my other bakery experiences. This place is Corwin VETOED.

Delicious breads, pastries and pizza. Their pizza dough is excellent. Reasonably priced too. The inside could use some updating

It is rare that I'm out on a Wednesday mid-morning with my husband. But this Wednesday found us out…read morecaravanning for car repairs, which is a total downer. So we stopped for Tim Horton's to at least make a little lemonade out of lemons, and enjoy a hot beverage together. Which brings me to Wolter's. We stopped at the Tim's in the same plaza parking lot as Wolter's, and had our Tim's in a spot facing Wolter's. Had that not happened, I'd still not know that Wolter's exists. Because tucked away in this eclectic plaza is their bakery, and it is easy to miss. So to continue our caloric-self-soothing, we walked over to Wolter's. It is a small bakery, but not tiny, big enough for us to be in the counter area with two other patrons, and still be spaced out. Next to the counter is an adorable seating room that looked like a grandma's living room, which also, not surprisingly, seemed to be occupied by adorable grandmas. When we're back into eating in, I definitely want to join them one morning. I have greys and readers, I'll blend. :-D The counterspace has a sizable display case with LOTS of baked goodies: breads, rolls, pastries, donuts, danish, fritters, cupcakes, pies, cakes, cookies, specialty baked goods--no carb-or-sugar-shortage here! I asked the counterperson her favorite, and she of course said it is all good, but the almond rings are their specialty. We didn't want a whole almond ring, but we were in luck to still be able to sample their signature flavor. On Wednesdays, they have sticky buns, one of which is an almond ring variety, with the same filling and icing. We purchased one of those, a cinnamon roll sticky bun, an almond horn, and an angel cream donut. The bill was $5.46--WOW, great deal for four homemade baked goods, so we're off to a great start! Back out to our car we went, to continue sipping our Tim's and try our Wolter's selections. The hubbs ate his cinnamon bun first, and said it was good. When it was my turn to commandeer the bag, I went for the almond ring sticky bun, and ... WOWWW-WOWWW-WEEE-WAHHHH!! What a DELICIOUS treat! Now, I ADORE anything flavored with almond extract, LOVE that cherry'ish taste, and this bun had LOTS of it, all in the best possible way. The icing and the pastry cream filling were just the right amount of almond-extract-flavor-heaven. The sweet almond slivers on top added a little crunch dimension. Pure YUM. Next the hubbs and I shared the almond horn, and again WOWWZA--again, that fantastic almond extract flavor I adore. But beyond that, the texture was just perfect! It was a soft, chewy cookie with a solid coating of sliced almonds that was a delightful crunch into the sweet innards. SO GOOD. We were so full by then, after Tim's bagels and these sweets, that we brought the donut home to our son. He ate it in like 30 seconds. So it must have been pretty decent, too. :-D SO HAPPY to have discovered Wolter's today! My mom's birthday is on Groundhog's Day, so this timing was great! I'd like to bring my mom in on her birthday to select some goodies, as she too is a sweet-tooth, and will have no problem picking an assortment of treats from Wolter's. If you haven't tried Wolter's yet, and want to snag a spread of homemade sweet treats, I five-star-HIGHLY recommend you stop by! I may be with the grandmas in the sitting room. :-D

My favorites are the classic market loaf, english muffins, and cardamom bun, but everything is delicious. There's often a line, but don't let it deter you because it moves super fast! Depending on the time of day you go, you'll often get a first-hand look at the staff baking and shaping bread or treats in the open concept kitchen and it's always so cool so see how it comes together! All of the staff are friendly and Anastasia herself is usually there helping out with the baking. There's also a designated parking lot.

So many bakeries are focusing on beautiful cut out cookies or $60 cakes but no one bakes a loaf of bread. Enter Anastasia's. I arrived early and the front door was still locked. So, I sat tight for a while. I could hear the banter inside and the laughing that makes a happy workplace. They seem to focus mostly on breads. The cherry walnut baguette was incredible as was the seeded bread. The homemade English muffin was still warm as were the bagels. The frangipane tart was delicious and the pistachio financier with its pear and almond is incredibly delicious. Everything was of high quality. They advertise upcoming holiday products and specialized ethnic goods. Plenty of parking and get there early for the best selection.

Cuccidati Inc. had a booth at the event ... and they had me at the word "cuccidati". :-D LOVE these cookies! If you are unfamiliar, cuccidati are iced-and-sprinkled fig-filled Italian cookies. They're like a soft, delectable, gourmet, top-shelf, high-class, prettier Fig Newton, but way better, haha. Whenever I see an Italian cookie spread at a gathering, I always b-line for dibbs on the cuccidati. And Cuccidati Inc.'s cuccidati did not disappoint! These were a bit different from cuccidati I've had before. They weren't quite as sweet, not as thick-white of an icing as usual. And the filling seemed more natural, like more purely fig, as opposed to the more artificial extract flavor of some cuccidati. I do like the creamier cuccidati filling I'm used to, with more of a jam consistency. But these were good too, you could feel chewy bits of real fig fruit in each bite. If you prefer a cookie that isn't too rattle-your-teeth-sweet, you will probably enjoy Cuccidati Inc.'s cookies very much. We spoke with the owners when we were at the fresh-air market, and they were very sweet and friendly. They of course bake their namesake, but also bake many other cookies too. They don't have their own storefront, they sell by order, or at local venues and events. They are on the shelves at Buffalo Artisan Food Traders (https://www.yelp.com/biz/buffalo-artisan-food-traders-buffalo), so if you have a hankering for some delicious cuccidati, stop by there to grab a pack. Or check Cuccidati Inc.'s Facebook page for other upcoming local appearances - https://www.facebook.com/cuccidati.org - and mangia! :-D
