Stopped in to pick up an order of blueberry bread, it was late afternoon so it was slim pickings. Had seen reviews on the croissants so I got an almond & a pretzel one. Almond croissants are my go to and it didn't disappoint but I will say the pretzel one was a pleasant surprise. They are buttery and flakey. I could have done with a little less salt on the pretzel one but that's me. The bakery is on a corner and real cute inside, it's all on street parking so be prepared to walk. The staff is all friendly and helpful. The blueberry bread reminded me more of a danish pastry than bread. It was more of a cross between bread and pastry, not really a bread like consistency but not overly sweet. Really good!
As someone who makes it a point to try croissants everywhere I travel: Spain, France, Portland, San Francisco... you name it. I don't say this lightly: Butter Block is easily the best bakery in Buffalo. Are they the best in the world? No. But for Buffalo? They're doing it right. The laminations, the flakiness, the balance of flavors: you can tell there's real technique and care behind everything. The almond croissants are rich and perfectly filled, the éclairs are smooth and not overly sweet, and the pain au chocolat has that ideal crisp, buttery bite. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here... which is why my go-to move is just getting one of everything. It's also the kind of place where you bring a box to friends or family and immediately become everyone's favorite person. And don't skip the latte, it ties the whole experience together. A solid 5/5 when it comes to food, ambiance and service. If you love bakeries and appreciate a good croissant, Butter Block is a must in Buffalo
Picked up one of their treats from Farmshop Bakery in Buffalo and had to share because they absolutely nailed the infamous Pop-Tart. I tried the Buffalo Sabres edition, a chocolate peanut butter filling topped with blue and yellow sprinkles - and it was so good. The pastry was perfectly buttery, flaky, and rich without feeling too heavy, while the filling was next level: deep chocolate packed with peanut pieces for the perfect crunch and salty-sweet balance. It somehow felt both indulgent and comforting at the same time. I could easily eat these every weekend and feel zero guilt - life is too short not to enjoy the good stuff. Here for all the gold and blue treats in honor of the Sabres!
The desserts are very good and I enjoyed them, but I dont know if I chose the best of what they have available. I wasn't blown away but I did enjoy most of the items we bought. The croissant was flaky, buttery and was filled with hazelnut chocolate cream and topped with hazelnuts. Every bite was delicious. The macaroon looked amazing but I found it to be a little dry. I was expecting the middle to be a little more "sticky" I guess. The pop tarts were good. They are more like a hand pie with a buttery style pie crust. The almond raspberry tasted like a shortbread almond cookie that I make for Christmas. The brownie was chewy in the middle and dry on the outside like a corner piece of a brownie. I'd have to say overall it was very good.
What is there to complain about when it comes to a cute French bakery??? This place is literally PERFECT. Nestled right next to my succulent plant obsession Urban Roots, it's in the perfect location. BUT you'd better get here early bc the pastries literally FLY off the shelf. My favssss are the Morning Bun, Kouign Amann, and the savory ones they have occasionally! The interior is also soooo cute and I love how you can see the bakers in the back 10/10 spot!
I don't regret stopping in here on Sunday! The bakery has a small seating area which was quite busy. There was a line about 10 deep which went pretty fast. Everybody was working very hard. Everything looks amazing! I ordered a bunch of different treats to try and nothing disappointed! I highly recommend!
This may have been THE BEST almond croissant I've ever had, and I've had a lot of them! I stopped by on a Saturday morning because I've heard this was the place for pastries. The moment you drove by, you could smell the butter wafting in the air. The display was incredible, and I may have gotten more than I should have ^^" Usually when I get almond croissants, there's space between the top and bottom layers because the filling is sparse. This croissant had ample, even filling all the way through, and made for a very nice eating experience. I also got the plain croissant, the morning bun, and the pesto/tomato danish. Laminations were on point and the butter was definitely there! I also got the eclair, which had good structure and a beautiful custard cream on the inside. The brownie and the cookie were also amazing!! I'm going to recommend this place to anyone I know who's heading to Buffalo :) Also, I came back to try the matcha: probably one of the best matchas I've had in WNY, would go out of the way to get it!

Although there were long lines for pick up, they have a system down pact and runs very smoothly, the staff is always so nice and helpful as well. As always everything was tasty, the pop tarts are just amazing, as well as the croissant. The stand out for me, I ordered something different and it was absolutely amazing, I hope it's not just an holiday ordered becauseI could eat this every day, the Gateau Basque!!! It was like a delicious pound cake with a vanilla like filling it best I can describe it, whatever it is, it was amazing!
Stopped by Butter Block to grab a few pastries for later, and everything in the case looked amazing. I ended up choosing a savory tart, a hazelnut croissant, and a chocolate croissant. The counter staff were super helpful and friendly, which made the experience even better. Each pastry was excellent--flaky, rich, and full of flavor--but the savory tart was the standout for me. Easily one of the best I've had. This spot is definitely worth a visit.
When you think legendary pastries you may not think of Buffalo, NY, but this shop, buried in a seemingly residential area has the best pastries I've ever had. The bakery is immaculate, feels very French.m but not pretentious at all. Be prepared for a line but it goes super super fast. We ordered an almond croissant, a bacon bow tie, homemade pop tarts, kouign amann (which I had never heard of) and a ham and cheese croissant. The bacon bow tie was a perfect sweet and savoy combo with really crispy bacon, hint of maple syrup on a perfect croissant twist. (Not pictured because it was eaten so fast) The pop tarts were also delicious and really are just super bougie pop tarts you had growing up. The almond croissants were perfect. The big hit for me was the ham and cheese croissant. This had made it into the top-5 foods (not just pastries) I've ever had in my life. This thing was ridiculous, if we lived anywhere near it we would be there with an alarming frequency. This place is a gem. Get there and give it a try!

Food is absolutely amazing and worth every bit of frustration with the wait or the incredibly small space you have to stand in line. Oh and also the parking is horrendous- lots of one way streets in this area and also no parking on certain sides of the street so make sure you pay attention!! The staff are SO kind- they answered all of my questions, and were really patient and friendly. I got my order to go although they do have some small tables for seating inside. The star of my order was the coconut croissant. It was a twice baked croissant and filled with a coconut cream of some sort, with coconut flakes on top. OH MY GOD, so fantastic. This place is definitely worth coming to! Be patient, come hungry, and be nice to the staff that are working! read more

The desserts are very good and I enjoyed them, but I dont know if I chose the best of what they have available. I wasn't blown away but I did enjoy most of the items we bought. A real gem in Buffalo. I've never not stood in a line for butter block but it's well worth the wait. You can tell everything here is created with such intention. The croissants are flawless and I most recently tried their eclair which was insanely good. Always such a treat. read more

Where do I begin? I mean... if you like breakfast items, just go here. The croissants are flaky and melt in your mouth. The morning buns have a delicious amount of sugar coating the exterior, and every bite has a soft crunch of pure love. The homemade pop tarts are made with seasonal ingredients, so you're always getting something fresh and homemade. In the summer when I stop by their booth at the farmers market, I always buy treats to last us the whole weekend. Heads up, you should totally expect to wait in line when you arrive... I promise it's worth it! read more

We were not anywhere in the area of this bakery, but, as we were having dinner and talking to complete strangers, they recommended this business to us. So we decided what the hell we are on vacation and have nothing else to do. Except drive to Indianapolis. So we drove a half hour out of our way And boy was it worth it! The pastries were out of this world delicious. The staff was super friendly, and the bakery looked lovely inside. This is definitely a five star bakery. If I am ever in Buffalo again, I am certainly going here again. read more

A well deserved 5 stars. A review from a Canadian here. For my Torontonians, if you love Nadege almond croissants, then you'll love the ones from Butter Block even more. Conveniently located just 7 mins away from the Peace Bridge boarder, I've had my eyes on Butter Block for a long time. We arrived on a Friday morning and they were well stocked. I decided to get the following: Almond croissant Morning bun Chocolate chip cookie Bread pudding Smores poptart Everything was BOMB. I think my favourite thing was the morning bun. Almond croissants- sooo buttery and without that artificial almond paste taste. Almond paste filling was light and well distributed. One of the best almond croissants I've ever had. And I've had a lot! Morning bun - Think a cronut meets a cinnamon bun. The pastry was so soft and buttery but it also had that cinnamon sugar in between. It's a delicious pastry. S'mores Poptart -Ok I keep calling this a s'mores poptart and I'm not 100% sure this is what it is. Either way, it was still good lol. Their pastry is just so buttery and flakey. The real poptart could nevvver. Not too sweet at all. I assume the filling was supposed to be the chocolate part of the s'mores but again it wasn't really giving me that flavour. Chocolate chip cookie - this was perfect except for all the flakey salt on top. That's just personal preference. I don't like my chocolate chip cookies topped with salt. Aside from that, it was the perfect texture and tasted even better when warmed up. Bread pudding - this thing was like 2 pounds lol. It was sooo heavy but sooo delicious. It's literally bread pudding in a muffin form. It was so moist even 2 days later, when I devoured the rest of it. Customer service was fast and friendly. There are a few seats inside and I love that they offer complimentary lemon water. Butter Block has made it to the list of must visits whenever I cross the boarder! read more

This place is outstanding! The pastries are life changing (yeah, they're really that good!), the coffee is perfectly roasted and prepared (I had a latte both iced and hot), and the staff is welcoming. The shop is small, but adorable. We visited twice during our weekend trip, and my only regret is finding Butter Block in the first place, because it's far from home and I think about that Kouign-amann far too often. Butter Block, please start shipping! I'd be your number one customer! read more
I apologize for this being the first time I'm reviewing this WONDERFUL Bakery & Patisserie. I've been coming here for well over a year!! Their Peanut butter cookies are my reason for always returning on a regular basis. That being said, there are SO MANY other reasons to frequent this place!! The staff is awesome. They are polite, patient and knowledgeable. I give 5 stars a lot. I'd easily give this place a 6th star. They are experts at what they do. Pictures don't do justice to just how good all of their creations are. Just go to Rhode Island St and try. Get there early to have there full selection to choose from. Check out their website to reserve stuff ahead of time. Other family favs from here are their croissants, bacon bow ties, bread pudding, and the pop tarts. read more

Everything I've had here is incredible and their coffee beats most of the "acclaimed" coffee shops in Buffalo. Go try it and enjoy. read more

Delicious and well crafted bakery items. Real butter definitely. Staff were funny. Beautiful inside. We got there around 11 and items were running low. Go early to make sure you can see the whole selection. The two pastries we got, napoleon and macaroon, were delightful. read more
Butterblock is one of my go-to bakeries/patisseries in Buffalo! Everything they offer is high quality and exceptional! The croissants and Kouign Amman are the best I've had in the area! They offer individual desserts, whole desserts and quiche. You can order ahead on their website or stop into the bakery. There's limited seating inside...a handful of tables. I'd get there early though to ensure you get what you desire. I've yet to try the coffee or lattes from here as I'm ultra focused on the main attraction! One day though! In the Spring and Summer, they have a stand at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market. Again, arrive early there too for the best selection. If you haven't yet tried Butterblock you're definitely missing out! Make it a priority to get there asap and often!!! read more
The pastries looked absolutely divine when looking online so I knew I had to stop by during my quick trip to Buffalo - and I'm so glad I did. I tried to cut into the butter croissant with the wooden knives they have, but it was so delicate that it was impossible to cut through to see the honeycomb structure. It was delightfully crumbly and deliciously buttery. We also got the cacio e pepe roll to try, per one of the staff's recommendations as it was her favorite savory item. It had a beautiful blend of flavors and we can't wait to come back for more! read more

20 minutes to drive there, 20 minutes to drive home...and I still smell like freshly baked pastry. I'd be speechless but I'm too busy drooling and clamoring for the first bite of the brioche bomb... To be honest, I'm a suburbanite. The older I've gotten, the more frequently I visit the city, but it's mostly for work or an appointment. Now that I know about Butter Block (bb for short), I'm afraid I'll be spending much more time in the city. Painted a soft, buttery yellow, the outside of the building reminds me of any shop you might see on Main St in Williamsville or East Aurora. Step inside and it takes your away. The first thing you see is the barista swiftly and deftly slinging shots of espresso for Americanos, Lattes, and any other high-test beverage you could want (I ordered a Cortado). Then you see the bench seat that spans the entire right side of the cafe. Intimate spaces for two to sit, chat, and devour the deliciousness of the wares being churned out of the kitchen. There's a large case for pastries and a cold case for tarts and other delicacies. A doorway I will assume was the restroom is discreetly tucked away to the right just before you get to the glass windows of the kitchen. Half a dozen people all working feverishly to prepare, decorate, and/or plate-up completed treats... it's truly a sight to see. I have to stop typing now because I need to not-so-delicately put my face back into this brioche bomb, with brown butter streusel and a combination of vanilla pastry cream and lemon curd... nom, nom, nom... read more
Trendy, upscale, sophication best describes this very popular French style patisserie. The interior is crisp, bright and welcoming. We've never come here without there being a line, but it moves fairly quick. They run out of popular items, so ordering ahead is recommended. The creations include a variety of filled and plain croissants that are a must try! They rotate the case with a variety of specialty chilled delectables, pop tarts, brownies, pies, scones etc. This is not your typical bakery variety. This is CIA level and I wouldn't be surprised if that is where they studied. Many trips to France were taken by these master pastry chefs!! read more

We tried the chocolate croissant, cherry lime pop tart, and morning bun - everything was amazing and did not disappoint! Although there was a line it was quick moving and staff were super friendly..and patient with younger indecisive patrons. Would definitely visit again when in the area! read more
