As someone who makes it a point to try croissants everywhere I travel: Spain, France, Portland, San Francisco... you name it. I don't say this lightly: Butter Block is easily the best bakery in Buffalo. Are they the best in the world? No. But for Buffalo? They're doing it right. The laminations, the flakiness, the balance of flavors: you can tell there's real technique and care behind everything. The almond croissants are rich and perfectly filled, the éclairs are smooth and not overly sweet, and the pain au chocolat has that ideal crisp, buttery bite. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here... which is why my go-to move is just getting one of everything. It's also the kind of place where you bring a box to friends or family and immediately become everyone's favorite person. And don't skip the latte, it ties the whole experience together. A solid 5/5 when it comes to food, ambiance and service. If you love bakeries and appreciate a good croissant, Butter Block is a must in Buffalo

Chocolate peanut butter Pop-Tart - deep chocolatey flavor with crunchy peanuts

Picked up one of their treats from Farmshop Bakery in Buffalo and had to share because they absolutely nailed the infamous Pop-Tart. I tried the Buffalo Sabres edition, a chocolate peanut butter filling topped with blue and yellow sprinkles - and it was so good. The pastry was perfectly buttery, flaky, and rich without feeling too heavy, while the filling was next level: deep chocolate packed with peanut pieces for the perfect crunch and salty-sweet balance. It somehow felt both indulgent and comforting at the same time. I could easily eat these every weekend and feel zero guilt - life is too short not to enjoy the good stuff. Here for all the gold and blue treats in honor of the Sabres!

I don't regret stopping in here on Sunday! The bakery has a small seating area which was quite busy. There was a line about 10 deep which went pretty fast. Everybody was working very hard. Everything looks amazing! I ordered a bunch of different treats to try and nothing disappointed! I highly recommend!

The desserts are very good and I enjoyed them, but I dont know if I chose the best of what they have available. I wasn't blown away but I did enjoy most of the items we bought. The croissant was flaky, buttery and was filled with hazelnut chocolate cream and topped with hazelnuts. Every bite was delicious. The macaroon looked amazing but I found it to be a little dry. I was expecting the middle to be a little more "sticky" I guess. The pop tarts were good. They are more like a hand pie with a buttery style pie crust. The almond raspberry tasted like a shortbread almond cookie that I make for Christmas. The brownie was chewy in the middle and dry on the outside like a corner piece of a brownie. I'd have to say overall it was very good.

A real gem in Buffalo. I've never not stood in a line for butter block but it's well worth the wait. You can tell everything here is created with such intention. The croissants are flawless and I most recently tried their eclair which was insanely good. Always such a treat.

This may have been THE BEST almond croissant I've ever had, and I've had a lot of them! I stopped by on a Saturday morning because I've heard this was the place for pastries. The moment you drove by, you could smell the butter wafting in the air. The display was incredible, and I may have gotten more than I should have ^^" Usually when I get almond croissants, there's space between the top and bottom layers because the filling is sparse. This croissant had ample, even filling all the way through, and made for a very nice eating experience. I also got the plain croissant, the morning bun, and the pesto/tomato danish. Laminations were on point and the butter was definitely there! I also got the eclair, which had good structure and a beautiful custard cream on the inside. The brownie and the cookie were also amazing!! I'm going to recommend this place to anyone I know who's heading to Buffalo :) Also, I came back to try the matcha: probably one of the best matchas I've had in WNY, would go out of the way to get it!

My favorite bakery in buffalo! I always get the chocolate croissant, because it's perfection, but everything that they have is delicious. Plan to wait a little bit, but the line moves quickly and it's worth it!

I can not bake and that's okay because butter block can! Pre ordered for holidays. Ordering was easy online. Although there were long lines for pick up, they have a system down pact and runs very smoothly, the staff is always so nice and helpful as well. As always everything was tasty, the pop tarts are just amazing, as well as the croissant. The stand out for me, I ordered something different and it was absolutely amazing, I hope it's not just an holiday ordered becauseI could eat this every day, the Gateau Basque!!! It was like a delicious pound cake with a vanilla like filling it best I can describe it, whatever it is, it was amazing!

Stopped by Butter Block to grab a few pastries for later, and everything in the case looked amazing. I ended up choosing a savory tart, a hazelnut croissant, and a chocolate croissant. The counter staff were super helpful and friendly, which made the experience even better. Each pastry was excellent--flaky, rich, and full of flavor--but the savory tart was the standout for me. Easily one of the best I've had. This spot is definitely worth a visit.

You HAVE to try their homemade pop tarts. Absolutely delicious! The pastry was flaky and delicious. Not too sweet but sweet enough for a special treat for breakfast.

When you think legendary pastries you may not think of Buffalo, NY, but this shop, buried in a seemingly residential area has the best pastries I've ever had. The bakery is immaculate, feels very French.m but not pretentious at all. Be prepared for a line but it goes super super fast. We ordered an almond croissant, a bacon bow tie, homemade pop tarts, kouign amann (which I had never heard of) and a ham and cheese croissant. The bacon bow tie was a perfect sweet and savoy combo with really crispy bacon, hint of maple syrup on a perfect croissant twist. (Not pictured because it was eaten so fast) The pop tarts were also delicious and really are just super bougie pop tarts you had growing up. The almond croissants were perfect. The big hit for me was the ham and cheese croissant. This had made it into the top-5 foods (not just pastries) I've ever had in my life. This thing was ridiculous, if we lived anywhere near it we would be there with an alarming frequency. This place is a gem. Get there and give it a try!

    Croissants and the morning bun!

Where do I begin? I mean... if you like breakfast items, just go here. The croissants are flaky and melt in your mouth. The morning buns have a delicious amount of sugar coating the exterior, and every bite has a soft crunch of pure love. The homemade pop tarts are made with seasonal ingredients, so you're always getting something fresh and homemade. In the summer when I stop by their booth at the farmers market, I always buy treats to last us the whole weekend. Heads up, you should totally expect to wait in line when you arrive... I promise it's worth it!

Just as I was about to go in the place must have caught fire. Yikes! A man was leaving the bakery with as many loaves of bread as he could carry. I investigated. Sure enough, the store was filled with firemen. I couldn't get in. It turns out the firemen were buying a lot of baked goods. Whew! And the guy carrying all the loaves of bread was a caterer. He bought 50 loaves of Luigi's delicious bread. He explained he was catering a 50th wedding anniversary, and the celebrants wanted a loaf of Luigi's bread for each of their 50 years. I'm not kidding! I bought only 4 loves of bread. They were out of my favorite - sesame seeded Italian so I had to go with plain. They have a trick with their bread. They don't use preservatives, so you have to eat it within 2 days and then go back for more. It's a trap! They were out of almond and poppy seed strudel thingys, so I settled for apple, blueberry and cherry. I tried the lemon cake and it's great. But my favorite thing was the almond cake. Absolutely dreamy. It didn't make it home because I stopped at a friend's house on the way home to share some. All I got was just one slice. And I ate that before I had a chance to take its picture.

Inside, along with a nice size seating area to eat and bakery ordering line, they have ready made baked goods throughout many different bakery cases and fridges, as well as pre-packaged options. Everything from kringles to cookies and scones to cupcakes and full custom cakes. I had read about legendary cinnamon scones and have been a huge scone kick (especially cinnamon!), so I had to try them. Not only do they make cinnamon though, they take a unique approach to their fruit scones by filling them with fruit jelly, so of course I tried a lemon blueberry filled scone too. The filled ones are better in theory than practice. The lemon flavor of the dough was almost nonexistent and the blueberry jam didn't spread well enough to help out the other lacking flavors. The cinnamon scone absolutely could have potential, but unfortunately mine was overly hard and crumbly - I wish I had asked for a specific, newer and lesser-baked one, but such is life :)

Cuccidati Inc. had a booth at the event ... and they had me at the word "cuccidati". :-D LOVE these cookies! If you are unfamiliar, cuccidati are iced-and-sprinkled fig-filled Italian cookies. They're like a soft, delectable, gourmet, top-shelf, high-class, prettier Fig Newton, but way better, haha. Whenever I see an Italian cookie spread at a gathering, I always b-line for dibbs on the cuccidati. And Cuccidati Inc.'s cuccidati did not disappoint! These were a bit different from cuccidati I've had before. They weren't quite as sweet, not as thick-white of an icing as usual. And the filling seemed more natural, like more purely fig, as opposed to the more artificial extract flavor of some cuccidati. I do like the creamier cuccidati filling I'm used to, with more of a jam consistency. But these were good too, you could feel chewy bits of real fig fruit in each bite. If you prefer a cookie that isn't too rattle-your-teeth-sweet, you will probably enjoy Cuccidati Inc.'s cookies very much. We spoke with the owners when we were at the fresh-air market, and they were very sweet and friendly. They of course bake their namesake, but also bake many other cookies too. They don't have their own storefront, they sell by order, or at local venues and events. They are on the shelves at Buffalo Artisan Food Traders (https://www.yelp.com/biz/buffalo-artisan-food-traders-buffalo), so if you have a hankering for some delicious cuccidati, stop by there to grab a pack. Or check Cuccidati Inc.'s Facebook page for other upcoming local appearances - https://www.facebook.com/cuccidati.org - and mangia! :-D
