We have been meaning to try this establishment since it's so close to our house! I am sad we waited so long. First off, they don't have gluten free pancakes or anything so that's a bummer but their menu is laid out very well. They have the traditional offerings, bacon eggs, sausage, pancakes and waffles. They also have scrambles-I had the southern (I think that was the name) with eggs, black beans, sour cream, green chilies, salsa and potatoes. Their house made potatoes are to die for!!! They have rosemary and many yummy herbs on them. Jason ordered an omelet with avocado, bacon and something else. He doesn't even like avocado and he crushed his food, that's saying something. Prices are awesome for this area and the value of food you receive. He enjoyed his coffee and my tea was what it is, tea. The only things I would change: the fruit side has bananas and apples and blueberries that you would put in pancakes. Take the blueberries off, they are terrible in a fruit side they are the weird dehydrated ones that then immersed in diabetes (sugar, corn syrup and w/e other crap). I would also like to see a fresh made salsa instead of the jarred picante stuff. And do something with your décor! This should be a family establishment, make it feel warm and inviting. First it was in a very nice setting but I do go for the view. I go to eat. I ordered the Western omelet no cheese. It comes with goat feta cheese.yuk! I asked to have it remade it comes back the same. I elected to scrape it and go from there. It was not very good. 2nd I elected to order the fruit instead of potatoes the blueberries were frozen. So sad. The biscuit was not done still bad doughy inside. I believe I have had better breakfast at IHOP down the road. Coffee tastes like it was burnt. No alcoholic options though; everyone in JoCo enjoys a mimosa, Bloody Mary, or a shot of Bailey's with their coffee during brunch. Went to Ginger Sues for lunch yesterday, had a very good Fish and Chips, so decided to take my daughter for breakfast. Service was fast and friendly both times. I had the southwest scramble. It was not as good as I'd hoped it would be and while it came out fast it was already just warm and the eggs were runny so it was cold by the time I was done. My daughter had a pancake which I tried and it was good. Will definitely go back for lunch and will probably go for breakfast at least one more time. I really don't like my scrambled eggs runny. Coming into this restaurant I wasn't impressed with the interior it seems outdated. I judge a brunch spot by the coffee and this coffee was watered down. Due to COVID I had to scan a QR code to bring up a online menu which was frustrating because the menu seemed very limited to what I was expecting and it was difficult to make a selection because nothing seemed to catch my eye. So I chose Gingers classic which comes with two eggs how ever you like, potatoes, choice of meat (bacon, sausage or turkey sausage) and a biscuit. This was a great first choice for a new comer like myself. Although the food was good it was also very basic and just smothered in a overwhelming amount of spices and butter. My husband chose to order the grilled chicken scramble which was okay nothing really stood out except once again the meal being doused in a overwhelming amount of hollandaise sauce which gave it the only flavor it had. This place has a LOT going in its favor. The food is delicious, the servers attentive, the building is clean and inviting. The only down side is that there's always a wait (which should tell you something about the quality of the food!). On my visits there I've tried a couple of their different omelette options, and each has been very good. I've had their biscuits, once with gravy (which was SUPER!) and another time with honey. Their homestyle potatoes are wonderfully seasoned and well roasted, and the bacon is something special... it's glazed sweet and then peppered. It has a unique character all its own. Of particular note at Ginger Sue's are the pancakes! They're HUGE and FLUFFY and AMAZING. Of course you can order them plain, but you can also opt to add blueberries or chocolate chips; which, of course, I did. :-) They also serve French Toast, waffles, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, salads, and entree choices of all kinds. I can't speak to these as I haven't tried them, but the consistency of quality in the food items I have tried gives me zero hesitation to think these would also be very good. I would offer a 5 star review, were it not for the price point. If it were just a bit cheaper I would eat here more often. But as the dad in a family of five, it's more than I can justify for family breakfast or brunch, unless we're marking a special occasion. It's not outrageous... just a bit more than I would prefer to spend for breakfast. Our community has a veritable GLUT of breakfast and brunch restaurants, but this one stands out for excellent quality of food and service. Don't hesitate to try this place... and don't be wary if you have to wait. It's worth it! read more

Sabrina's (back east in Philly) has the best Eggs Benedict ever. Or so I thought. I was home sick for Sabrina's so I looked up the best Eggs Benedict in my new neighborhood and lo and behold...Ginger Sue's Restaurant is right up there AND it is close. I drove by a few times before and had no idea! Of course I ordered my favorite back home brunch dish and it came out looking fantastic. It tasted delicious, too. The eggs were PERFECT. I have never had the eggs cooked this well. They were both exactly the same! Back home, one is always a little off. One point to Ginger Sue's. Very good size portion, too. Not too much and not too little. FYI, Christine, my server, is awesome. Gave me refills of coffee right away and stopped over a few times to chat even though she was really busy. After looking over the menu I had high hopes for a Sunday morning breakfast. In spite of being busy, we got seated in 10 minutes. We looked at the menu so when we met our waitress, we ordered right away. Our waitress (and all wait staff were high school age or less). Our food came out in about 8 to 10 minutes. My wife had the breakfast crepes with Andouille sausage, peppers and avocado along with a Café au lait . I had a skillet scramble with chicken, veggies and hollandaise and house coffee. The breakfast crepe was small to medium and in spite of the ingredients was very bland. The chicken scramble was quite good but only had a tablespoon of hollandaise. So you are probably thinking, "ask for more hollandaise." Uh....yeah....if I could ever get waited on again I would. The waitress never returned until she was there with our check. The potatoes that are served with the breakfast were very tasty and had some rosemary added. Very impressive. Once you order your food, that is the last you will see of your waiter. Period. The Café au lait was quite sad. It tasted like thinly brewed coffee with instant milk added. So my wife ordered a cup of coffee. They would not provide a refill on the coffee for free. She really wanted a cup of coffee that was decent so she ordered that also. Surprisingly that took about 12 minutes to arrive. By then we needed to get going so she asked for a "to go" cup. The attendant, who was filling in for our waitress, said he would ask if he could do that. Well that was another 5 minutes. Bottom line: Food is comparable to IHOP but about $1 more per item. Service is really poor. I like to support the local entrepreneur when I can and keep our money in the community, but honestly, for the money, scoot up the road to the IHOP for better value. read more

Probably my new favorite for breakfast! The atmosphere is bright, simple and clean, and the wait staff, incredible. The place was busy, but not once did I feel rushed, or made to feel that I needed to scarf my omelette so others could be seated. (Yes, that happens, but not here. ) I had the aloha omelette, which was served with the fluffiest biscuit I've ever seen & a side of yummy breakfast potatoes! I ordered the Belgian waffles as a side, just so I could try the compote. It was ok, but didn't quite meet up to my expectation of wonderful. ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK!! So they do not have a kids menu, so we ordered a single pancake and a side of bacon for my son. There was no description of the bacon on the menu and when it came it had pepper maple syrup and rosemary on the bacon. My 11year old wouldn't eat it so we order a side of plain bacon for him. When the bill came we asked them to remove the $4.50 uneaten "special" bacon. They refused because they said nothing was wrong with it and it was a preference. Well, if I was given the choice I'd have given them MY preference but, as I already mentioned, it's not described on the menu or mentioned when ordered. I could go to 100 other breakfast restaurants and order bacon and get just bacon. If you're gonna spice it up that's fine, but if I don't like it then don't force me to pay for it. My family and I have been to the Olathe location quite a few times and have never been disappointed. It starts to get busy around 9:30 on weekends. Service is efficient and feels like an upscale diner. Friendly wait staff every time we go!!! My favorite is actually the standard "Ginger's Classic" breakfast of 2 eggs, bacon, skillet potatoes and biscuit. Every component is just so darn delicious--better than I can make at home. Their bacon is amazing--peppery and salty and a bit sweet. Skillet potatoes are delicious--cooked with rosemary and garlic until crispy on the outside. Biscuit is soft and buttery--perfect with the two over-easy eggs. Hubby typically gets the gravy scrambler with scrambled eggs and a sausage gravy on top. It's so good that even though I'm not a sausage fan, I cant resist a few bites. I have also had the west coast omelet and the eggs Benedict and they were delicious too. Our kids typically get waffles and chocolate chip pancakes with no complaints. Kids waffle portion was a bit small. I get them a side of fruit to share. My kids often want some bites of our breakfasts bc they are so good. Coffee is just ok there. Nothing to write home about. We are coffee snobs and typically make a separate stop somewhere before so we can drink while we wait for a table to open up. Value is great for the quality food you get. We are always in search of good options for breakfast. This morning, based on the Yelp reviews, we decided to try Ginger Sue's. We were greeted by a friendly and enthusiastic group of staff, and promptly seated. I quickly noticed a very strong sewage odor present in the restaurant. We ordered and received our meals, me a California omelet, and my wife, the Ginger Sue's special. While the food wasn't bad, there was nothing remarkable about it either. The cooks no doubt like to use a high amount of black pepper. Not only did this mask the flavors, but the high quantity resulted in a bit of stomach discomfort. I realize how you prefer the seasoning on your food is a personal preference. For my wife and I, it was too much. Back to the sewage smell. After we had received our food and were well into it, one of the servers started a circle through the restaurant spraying some type of deodorizer or sanitizer on the floor. It was overwhelming. I could feel the mist as well as taste it. When the server was making the return trip from his lap through the restaurant spraying, my wife quickly told him to stop as we did not want the chemicals to permeate our food any more than it had. Neighboring tables also noticed this as well. This was clearly a bad mistake by the staff. If there was an odor which needed to be addressed, it should have been done before opening (we arrived around 7:30 or so). I understand things happen, but this was poorly handled. Based on the reviews, this situation is probably an exception, but restaurants only have one chance for a good first impression. We will not be back. While the overall breakfast was good, the gravy lacked flavor and needed more salt and pepper. If I was to recommend one item, it has to be the breakfast potatoes. The potatoes were crispy, well seasoned, and will keep you coming back. I did not find an online reservation option, so be prepared to wait for a table if visiting on the weekend. Found this place on Yelp so decided to take my two girls there on a Saturday morning to check it out. Great service, great prices, decent menu, good food. I fed myself and my two girls for $14 total! Only knocking off 1 star because the overall atmosphere lacks "soul." Zero ambiance, zero decorations, very nondescript, almost clinical/hospital cafeteria feel. But overall would recommend. The manager has an odd way of apologizing when their food gets sent back. Went to Ginger Sues today with my mom, 2 year old daughter, and my husband. Mom and I ordered Omelettes, husband the country fried steak. Daughter got the baby plate which was adorable. Our food arrives. Our omelettes look great, my husband however was handed a flat, over fried, pork fritter. My husband loves food, so he took his butter knife (no steak knife was provided which usually when you order country fried steak you receive a steak knife) and tried to cut into it and it was impossible. I took my fork and also tried to cut into it. Didn't work. I chipped off a side of the said "steak" and it just broke off. Obviously way over fried. We tell our waitress we're not happy with it, show her that we can't cut it, and ordered a breakfast burrito instead. She was very polite and said she would take over it. Cool. Well the manager (I guess) decided to come over to our table. Get down to eye level with my husband and had the audacity to tell my husband that he looked at the "steak" and it was perfectly fine and that's the way it always looks. And have we ever had country fried steak before? Oh you have well have you had ours because it's pork. Kept saying that's how it's supposed to look. Even after we told him we couldn't cut it. Kept wanting to ARGUE with my Husband, the CUSTOMER, that the food was fine! When is ever arguing with the customer ever ok. We weren't rude about it. We just ordered something else and the manager took it really personally. As he dropped off the breakfast burrito we ordered instead he mentioned that he took the country fried steak off our bill. Well of course you did. Why would we pay for something we 1) did not eat and 2) we dissatisfied with. I guess he wanted to feel like he did us a favor. We go out to eat a lot! We tip generously. Food was ok. Cracker Barrel's is better. I would maybe say we would go there again but knowing considering the manager was pissed at us for not wanting to eat a burnt pork fritter, we will not be returning. I must admit, I can't speak to much of their menu since I keep ordering the same thing...but everyone else's food also always looks good, and I think their clean plates at the end confirm it. Their black bean burger is one of the best I've had in the Kansas City area, if you like a homemade black bean burger--so I keep coming back (ordered it all 3 times I've been here in the past couple months). Yes, some falls out of the sandwich, but I just eat it with a fork, since I wouldn't dare let a bite go to waste. I had the breakfast burrito, it was sub-par but I can't put my finger on why. The shell was really soft, almost mushy, and the filling was bland.
