What a great experience dealing with GillsMotorworks. My wife drove up to Chico from Southern California when her brake lights started flashing that she needed immediate service. I was out of town so I wasn't much help. I called Patrick at 5 o'clock on a Sunday. Patrick didn't answer the phone because they were closed, but he immediately called me back. I told him the situation that my wife needed to have her brakes done immediately. My wife had a prior appointment at 8 AM that she couldn't miss so Patrick worked around her schedule and met her at 7 AM. Custom Interior damaged with ZERO reimbursement after a month. I brought my vehicle in and payed over $2,000 for some simple motor work and keep in mind that this is how I was treated after paying so much; Upon returning home with my car that day I noticed that my brand new custom shift boot was covered in grease and had been attempted to be cleaned resulting in even more damage. It was installed about 3 weeks before this incident and was in perfect condition. It is a $50 custom made shift boot that took a $75 trim piece to make so this is going to cost me about $150 out of pocket to replace myself which is totally not cool. I took it upon myself to get in touch over the phone, where I was first accused about lying in regards to the damages, and was then mocked and made fun of by the owned Patrick for supposedly "just being all butt-hurt about it" I really want others to avoid such a bad experience, especially encountering damages and losing money when you are already having to pay for work on your car. I do also have images of my car on their lift as proof to the date that this occurred. read more

I got charged $400 for a replacement on my upstream oxygen sensor the day before I moved from Chico. They supposedly fixed it? But the day after my check engine light came back on a day later while moving 100 miles away. Also tried to tell me I needed a new catalytic converter and that they "know a guy" that can help me out with a new one for $1,200. I finally took my car into my old shop that just re-opened up and they part Gill's supposedly replaced is that part I'm having to replace now. I don't know what kind of back alley BS this place is pulling but do NOT bring your car here. They literally ripped me off. When I was picking up my car I over heard two Employees discussing securing mounts with ZIPTIES. That kinda Just shows what kinda stuff they pull here. Save your money, and take it to a legit shop. Decent price on a brake job. Girl in front was very nice and helpful. Now the bad. They techs overly greased every part of the brakes. Grease everywhere. Hopefully, the grease won't make it to the pads. The shop and parking lot are a complete dirty mess with old bolts and bits everywhere. The techs sat on the greasy floor and worked on the car. After noticing that no seat protection was used on my seats when the car was driven into the shop, I was prepared to put a towel on the seat. The owner gave me the old "you can't come in the shop because it's a liability" line AFTER I put some protection on the seat. I had no desire to tell him that If they did their job correctly I wouldn't have to help. The tech that was sitting in grease was indeed the guy who drove my car out of the shop. I at least saved the seat but ended up with a greasy shoe print on my door sill, grease on both of my new tires and greasy hand prints on the body. Zero love went into this job. I would NOT recommend nor would I return to this shop. read more

So I did some research and found that this place had good ratings and reasonable prices. So I decided to take my truck their to get diagnosed. Well two days later I call to see how it's going, and get a mouthful of coworker gossip. Including how the mechanic that was supposed to look at my truck was about to get fired but was the bosses friend so it's holding it up. I find that unprofessional, definitely didn't need to know or care. Then was called back by the supervisor to find out that they won't do the diagnostic because the job was to big. But it really took two days and a call to tell me that. You wasted my time when you could have been professional and handled your business in a professional way. This shop gives you the run around and will not be straightforward with you to save their life. Now understanding the unprofessional people that run and work their are the way they are, I have some doubt that my truck was not done simply because by the owners immaturity. Quick back story on that, my last name would be an issue being that the owner worked with my brother and couldn't handle the fact that someone who was not ASE certified could actually do better work or any work at that than him. But my full name could be an issue being that he attempted to screw around with my girl. He new my face and name. And you could tell that when I dropped my truck off. Now I would hope he wouldn't mix business with personal but who knows being that it's a shit show over there. Please just take this as your warning. The prices may look good the ratings may look good the reviews make look great but this place should not be in business. The owner doesn't know what he's doing ASE certified or not he simply hires people to do the job for him because he cannot do real mechanic work. 90% of his ratings are friends that started reading him immediately after opening up shop. And 90% of the workers there if not all are too busy fiddle dicking around to actually do the work they need to do. Or they are just too lazy. If your business doesn't know how to diagnose something or doesn't even want to do the job which no one he was asking for I was asking for a diagnosis then you probably shouldn't call yourself a mechanic or be working at a mechanic shop that requires to do that. I DROVE my car in for routine brake replacement and an oil leak my oil change shop notified me of. I had my car TOWED away due to the shops incompetence of how to bleed brakes and install a new brake master cylinder and my vehicle now has a check engine light on that was not there when I brought my car in. My rear window broke on a Saturday and Gills Motorworks were able to fix it that day. Since they are located across the street from auto-zone they can get most parts needed to fix a car. I went here to get my car fixed because it wasn't starting. Long story short, they made my car start and I drove it off the lot. I drove it home and left for the weekend. Monday comes along and my car works and then all of a sudden it doesn't. They had told me that they checked everything and it was all fine. So I call them to let them know and they tell me to tow my car over to them, which I did. Mind you, this was early in the morning. Next day I called and they said they hadn't worked on my car for a whole day and every time I called someone new picked up and told me they were going to call me back. Never did. I was annoyed at the lack of communication so I spoke to the owner apparently, who cussed me out and told me that he could have my car pushed out the lot if I didn't want them to continue service in my car. I was simply asking for clarification on the situation since they had told me they checked everything and now they say it's the starter. I wasn't upset, I was confused because every single person I spoke to told me something different. The "owner" got frustrated and told me to "fucking pick up my car or let me work on it". They're really unprofessional and could care less about retaining any business. read more

Gills worked on my moms car and it still was overheating (to which they did not take responsibility for) after $600 for fan replacements. When we took it back to them they said that it was the water pump and had a leak and also needed a timing belt replacement too. It would cost around $1300 to fix. They said the fans were the problem then said it was the pump. We argued with them over the mishap and they wouldn't do the work on her car after that. We took the car to a different mechanic yesterday and he already has it fixed. Was not the pump and there is no leaks. He said one of the fans was spinning backwards, the cooling system wasn't bleeded after the work and one of the sensors was left unplugged and that the brakes gills did before the fans were already overheated due to cheap parts. Gills was the one who did the work! They're super unprofessional, rude and clearly do the work incorrectly. Do NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! They will put the blame on you for their "mistakes" that cost you hella money. read more

The owner and workers are nice but the mechanic took 10 hours to do a 4 hour job, didn't replace the right part so I had to go back, then he cut the $50 wire harness that I bought and pigtailed it which made it in operable. He and his associates Patrick, Bryan and James all worked together to find the problem. Now comes the payment. I expected to pay big bucks, however to my surprise I was charged a very reasonable price! Shoot better than reasonable like family price . I can go on and on. Patrick Gill of Gills Motorworks in Chico , CA sold me a 2005 Subaru forester. He sold it to me and said he had just rebuilt the engine and it's a great car. In this sale he included a 1 year warranty on the engine. 50 miles out of Chico (I live in Mckinleyville, Ca) the car breaks down. I get it towed back and Patrick begs me to keep the deal, he already deposited the money... He clearly did not want to give the money back. He rebuilds the engine again. Besides lying to me A LOT he also did a shit job on the second rebuild because it has broken down again and my mechanic, Aaron Reel of Apex Auto in Arcata, says a head gasket is blown. This is an engine problem, again. First I called Mr. Gill at his shop; the second he knew it was me and I said blown head gasket he hung up on me. So I have sent Mr. Gill a certified letter explaining the situation. I sent a copy of the bill of sale, a copy of the 1 year warranty, and a copy of the estimate from Apex auto. I sent this package with my phone number so he could just call me. He has not replied. I need my car! This horrible mechanic has just left me without a car!!!! I paid $5000 for this car. read more

This place is crap. I took my car on for a replacement part and a week later my car started leaking oil really and and it had something to do with they replaced. Now they are denying it refuse to fix the problem. They also left 3 bolts and a nut off the car and left my battery cable loose. Something bad could of happened to me and on top of that I had to drive 30 minutes back to the shop for them to put the bolts and nut in. It was there responsibility to fix the new problem but no they want to charge my another $800 dollar. Customer service was nice when I first got there but once they got paid they didn't care.
