They told me it would be 2-3 hours until help arrived...I looked up the company they were sending and the company was in Oroville! I decided to do my own checking around with Chico companies and Ernie was available to come right over and assist. After talking about the issue, since I wasn't totally sure what the problem was, he figured it was the battery. He brought his power jumper and got my car started. He followed me to the VW shop to drop my car and then since they were closing and the shuttle wasn't there, he even drove me home. He went above and beyond and offered great savings as well. The technician, Ruben, showed up to get my son back into his car a good 15-30 min earlier than I was expecting; had him inside within 3 min or so; and frankly, he couldn't have been friendlier even while keeping his distance so as to respect my wishes. Tanner of Ernie's towing was one such person I called Ernie's because I thought there was a problem with my car, Tanner came to collect the car, but also did a little sleuthing to run down the cause of my complaint. To make a long and embarrassing story shorter Tanner figured out I don't need towing and helped to identify the cause of my concern. he was gracious, polite, and understanding the whole time. Patient friendly staff. I can't over emphasize patient enough. I called to schedule the day before my project and they showed on time, however; I was not. They where polite enough to call me to reschedule as they couldn't wait. The next time they showed up I hadn't mentioned my flat tire assuming that they could fix it. Since the fall of 2016, I've been taking my car to Ernies for everything from an oil change to a tune up to a blown water pump, and everything in between. When my Water Pump blew in 2016, Ernie came and picked up my car while I was at work, had an estimate for me to fix it within about an hour, and had it fixed the next day. Seriously badass customer service all around. Now, my car decided to have a cylinder go bad and again, Ernie and his wife Jennifer had a quote ready for me in less than an hour, and an appointment to fix it. They are very communicative with their customers during the whole process and they also break it down barney style for me since I know nothing about cars other than how to drive them, and apparently break them. Another nice thing for people that ya know... work... You can drop your car off in the evening after they are closed or early in the morning before they open and they have a drop slot for keys. Which makes it very convenient for those of us who work too. I had a mechanic I was faithful to in Red Bluff before moving to Chico, and I am beyond ecstatic that I've found my forever Mechanic in Chico! read more

These guys were super helpful and answered all my questions over the phone. My car didn't start the day before and had been overheating all day. It was parked in front of a Starbucks so would need to be towed to the shop. They quoted me $60 over the phone (I didn't have AAA or towing on my insurance) which was $25+ less from every other place I called. As it turned out, the car started right up for the tow truck operator, so I didn't need a tow now. Feeling guilty as it was a colossal waste of time for him I asked how much I owed him for coming out and he said "Nothing, It's not a problem at all... i'm just glad it started for you!". My wives CRV died on a busy highway (CA 99), so she called me and AAA. Within minutes of my arriving to help, she was screaming at AAA on the phone. She's not normally that way. AAA's outgoing message was horrible then they said it would be 75 minutes, though we said we were not in a safe place (?!). I called Highway Patrol who got there in about 10 minutes. My son started his 2014 Camaro in our driveway then closed all the doors to cool off the car. The doors locked; some kind of glitch in the system. Ernie came out after hours on the 4th of July. He worked for an hour trying to unlock the doors. He even made suggestions about an app that might help. There was worry the airbags might be set off or the tempered glass window would shatter. Ernie got the job done! The doors unlocked, he cleaned up the trim around the window and did NOT even charge us. We tried to pay him and he replied, donate to Paradise Camp Fire Victims and call me if you ever need a smog check or tow service again. I called the owner just to ask if that excessive amount could possibly be correct and the owner said he charges less than any tow company in Chico. LIE LIE LIE!!! The guy (Ernie, I believe?) was very rude, short tempered and didn't like questions. It was my fiance's first time taking her car to a shop and I recommended Dick's as it was down the road from my work and that way I could just pick it up when it was done. Once she had the estimate, she called me to tell me how much it was. I called just to get a breakdown of the costs and thats when things got weird. A very polite woman transferred me to Ernie(?), who couldn't provide a breakdown of the costs and got less patient the more I asked about where the money was going.
