I read some of these reviews (AFTER I used Brown's) and I'm really shocked. Back in April, my son hit black ice near Paradise. He spun out, hit the curb and blew out his tire. He was in an unsafe area and our insurance company couldn't get someone to him for at least an hour and a half (if even). I googled & found Brown's Towing and gave them a call. They sent someone right out. Kory, the driver, was very calming to this Mom (me) who was nearly 5 hours away and worried about her young son. I was able to speak to Kory on the phone while he was helping our son. Kory went above and beyond to help him. Our son had just moved to Chico, and was still somewhat unfamiliar with the area. Kory got his spare on for him and advised him on what places he could go to to find a quality used replacement tire at a decent price until he got home that weekend where we had already ordered a new set and had them waiting for him. Fast forward to this week in June, my son was coming home from Paradise and again had another blow out. I didn't care that I would have to suffer the wrath of my insurance company again by calling for tow service on my own instead of calling them first. I immediately picked up the phone and once again called Brown's towing. The female who answered the phone was very helpful and understanding, dispatching someone out right away as well. Imagine my surprise when my son called and said, "Hey Mom, it's that same cool guy driver from last time." I was able to speak to Kory, who reassured me that my son was fine and what exactly happened to the tire. Once again he went above and beyond to help my son, who not only lost a tire this time, but also a rim. Hope and pray they don't send the new guy. $200/hr to miss turns, display no confidence, talk to the neighbor, and, after talking to said neighbor, backs down one of two routes I pointed out in the beginning. $500 for a 4 min (longer b/c he blew by the address and drove a big 'P' for Paradise) trip between parks. Went to go home up my own, it's a dead end street. Got stuck behind this flatbed tow truck. Went to ask the driver to pull forward so I could go around, and there was no one to be found. Sat and waited for 30 minutes before another tow truck came to load the tow onto the flat bed. I walked up to them and said " Is your flat bed stuck?" He said " No" I said " Can you move it so I can get to my house" he said " We're gonna load the car first" I said " How long is that gonna take?" He said " maybe 20 minutes" I said " I've already been sitting here for 30 minutes" he looked right at me, ignored me, walked away, and loaded his tow. Now, I called the office asking about the truck when I couldn't find anyone with it. They said it was stuck. After asking the drivers if it was actually stuck and them saying no, I was pissed that someone could be so naive, selfish and negligent as to leave a vehicle blocking a whole neighborhood and cutting off access for emergencies. There are two separate very elderly households and a bunch of kids. What if an ambulance showed up and you're dumb a** was blocking the entire street? This was ridiculous. I watched as the tow truck driver had my 66 year old husband drive his 1949 car up the ramp onto the flatbed. It was straight up. My husband had to grasp and hold onto the outside of the window as the driver lowered the truck bed to step off. This was not safe at all! Very disappointed. This driver needs more proper training. I had a very good experience with Brown's Towing when my Rialta (Class B RV) broke down at the Chico Community Grocery. They came in a timely fashion, had to have another truck come to get me out of the parking spot so that the first truck could hitch on to my front end and tow me to an auto mechanic. I rode in their tow truck to the auto mechanic and since it was a Sunday and I had to spend the night in my RV and it was 110 degrees, they parked me in the shade and agreed to come back out on MOnday and move me to the entrance of the auto mechanic for no additional charge. I did not need to take them up on the offer. But it was a very generous offer, since I am sure they have more profitable business than moving a RV twice for the price of one move. THey were considerate, thoughtful, answered my questions, and took care of my vehicle. read more

The people working at their tow yard are rude and extremely unprofessional. Making their reputation worse is their engagement in predatory (and illegal) towing practices in the apartment complexes in town. After finding my vehicle mysteriously towed from my own apartment's parking lot, I went down to their tow yard to bail my car out. They were very disorganized and wasted my time "looking" for their missing paperwork. In the end they could not / would not provide me with the necessary documentation required by law of them after towing a vehicle on private property in CA and I caved and paid them anyways because I needed my car back. *I got Stadium Village to reimburse me for the tow after starting the process of taking them to small-claims court. Thank you so much Browns towing for making a already hard night even harder. My car was towed from an apartment complex that I was cleaning late at night... granted, that's not your fault. When I called, a very grumpy man answered the phone telling me it was just taken. I know businesses, I own one. I also know that when it comes to your "customers" there can be some sort of empathy or understanding when you ask them to bring your vehicle back, no matter the cost, due to the fact you are a type 1 diabetic who has insulin is in the car that you just towed. He was rude, extremely unprofessional, and cold. "Call a cab" The man who met me, after a cab ride to Browns, 1 mile away from the tow, didn't ask to see any form of identification. I grabbed my car and left, after paying $185 for it to be released to me. I am genuinely disappointed in you guys. You own a small business as I do, and I feel as though if we treated our fellow chiconians like actually human beings, we would still be able to profit. You lost more than respect from me, you lost a 5 star yelp review, which may mean nothing at all to you, but it may mean something to anyone questioning whether this company has the compassion and integrity that it prides itself in. read more

My Uncle got stuck in the flumes right at Powelton Rd and Skyway in Magailia(don't ask me how). We had limited cell service and originally got in touch with Skyway Towing, the woman on the line was rude and quick to get us off the phone without trying to help at all, as they do not do off road tows. We were able to get in touch with Brown's towing, who came out quickly and assessed the situation immediately. They had to get another truck out there to make this work, but they ended up being able to wench us out with a snatch block eventually. This was an insane situation and I wasn't sure if they were going to stick around to help at first(because I have seen other tow companies bail if it looks likes it's going to be too hard of a job), but they were very persistent, got their 2 wheel drive truck through a pretty nasty off road/muddy situation to get to us and got our FJ out of the flumes WITH NO DAMAGE to the vehicle. I am beyond impressed with the skill, persistence and their attitudes towards the whole situation. Highly recommend this company for any towing needs. read more

I called Brown's Towing tonight at about 10:30 pm because I had locked my keys in my car. Not only were they open (I had called 5-6 towing companies and locksmiths that were closed) and super friendly, but they only charged me $45 (compared to the $116 I was quoted from another towing site because it was an "after hours" call) and arrived within 10 minutes!!' They may be okay at towing but be wary of buying any of the lien packets they sell on to locals. Brown's Towing is helping scam artists. Brown's Towing sells lien packets often without requiring the purchasers to fill out the paperwork (as legally required). This allows those intermediaries to sell the paperwork on without registering the cars/trucks within 10 days (also required by CA law). If you purchase one of Brown's Towing's lein packets like I did, this means you can be hit with a ton of back fees because Brown's Towing facilitated the car/truck not being registered by leaving the paperwork blank when they sold it on. In my case I should have known better because I had to go back to them because they didn't even sign the seller's signature line. But then again Brown's Towing shouldn't be enabling this sort of scam. Between this review, a letter I sent to Brown's Towing directly, I hope Brown's Towing will change their behavior and become a more positive member of the community and not enable scam artists by failing to require them to sign on the dotted line. The people who work their seem decent and well meaning. I hope they will take action and stop selling lien packets without filling them out. read more

Today our car wouldn't start, so we called our roadside service to tow it to a auto shop. Jeremy was a tow truck driver who came to check out the car. He checked our battery first to see if the battery was okay and it turned out to be a weak battery He jumped the car and saved us time and money . He also recommended getting a battery manager/ charger to keep the battery charged up. He said during the cold months sometimes the car will have a hard start. He even looked up the charger that we needed and told us that he would help us hook it up. He went beyond the call and really helped two old women out. Thank you Jeremy. What a great guy. read more

Browns towing had been my go to tow company in Chico for the last 5 years. I've had a couple different vehicles towed for a total of probably a good 10 tows, all without incident. Though my most recent tow has left identical scratches from the feet of the tow lights that are placed on the bumper, on the left and the right which actually scratched the paint down to the metal. In the past, i noticed either a microfiber or some sort of felt pad underneath the tow lights feet to prevent damage. This driver must have been especially careless to cause this sort of easily prevented damage. I hope other customers aren't experiencing the same, as I'm sure we all get enough parking lot dings from selfish, reckless people and certainly don't need to PAY for them! It's too bad for the company that this happened as i have never had an incident with them prior to this and I have been a very loyal customer to them through the years, though this driver is a representative of the company and his sloppy work marks my last interaction with them. I'll be sure to share my story with friends and family and steer people to another company in town who VALUES their work a bit more. read more
