This is my first time coming here and I've been eyeing on this place for a while. For $15 you can either get one flavor of ahi or a mixed match, which is what I did. I felt like the portion size was kind of small for a Poké bowl and it lacks additional toppings like edamame etc. This is a nice spot to get Poké bowls since it's by Sausalito and the water area but I don't think that it was a good spot in general for a Poké bowl. read more

Came here for the first time and left hungry. The fish was the real problem, it was cut so poorly that nearly every piece had thick sinew running through it. I spent the whole bowl spitting pieces out and ended up buying a different lunch right after. Whoever is breaking down the tuna needs to learn how to clean the fish properly. Portions are small too, a little rice and about ten pieces per flavor, with a two flavor limit. The price sign on the cooler is worn off and unreadable, and when I said it was my first time and asked about the options, I got attitude. Stopped by this shop cause I was craving some poke after a long John Muir Woods hike. I got the wasabi poke bowl, a bit on the smaller side, but very good quality fish! You have a choice between brown or white rice cooked to perfection with furikake on top if you like. The Ahi tuna is very fresh with great portion size. Are you ready for it? The best part is it's $14.95 a bowl. You a grab a beverage alcoholic or non as it's a market too. And go sit by the water and enjoy the poke and the view. Gilligan's Poke Shop is a great spot if you want fresh poke in Sausalito. The Poke portion is located at the back of the shop, and you can go straight there. There are a few options, but all of them are tuna which is something to keep in mind. I knew they had a deal for a poke bowl for $15 dollars, but I wanted less rice so I opted for fish by the pound. Unfortunately, that ended up being a lot more expensive. I went for the smaller container that was advertised as being $18, but ended up being closer to $24 dollars since it was technically by the pound. My fiance got the larger container, and only ended up paying $23 for it because it wasn't stuffed as much. The inconsistency was a bit frustrating, especially given the size of the containers. Otherwise, the fish was fresh and delicious, and a great option for a light lunch in the area. I'd come back, but i'd probably get the Poke Bowl next time and save a bit of money. read more

The place was empty so it was extremely easy to get our order in. They had three different types available but we ordered a poke bowl with the spicy tuna. Service was quick and incredibly efficient. As for the poke itself, the overall flavor we agreed on was severely lacking. The fish itself tasted incredibly fresh and had a great mouth feel. I felt it needed more salt, soy, or just overall spice because it didn't taste like much even though it was supposed to be spicy. I found myself literally craving it today, and I used to live closer so it was worth the extra out of the way stop. There's 20 minute parking in front so grab a bowl and take it over to Swede's Beach for a nice lunch view. At $15, it's not exactly a steal--but it's absolutely worth every bite. Gilligan's Poke is one of the few Bay Area poke shops that's owned and operated by people from Hawaii. I suppose that doesn't guarantee that the poke will be good but as a Hawaii person recently transplanted to Northern California (and who has mostly been afraid to eat "poke" here) I thought I'd open my mind for once and give this spot a shot. It did not disappoint. Gilligan's is tucked into the back of a very average convenience store in a cute residential neighborhood a couple of miles north of the touristy part of Sausalito. They have a few other items in the fridge for sale but mostly just sell three kinds of poke by the pound or in a bowl. I got a bowl with the spicy ahi and a bit of the shoyu limu ahi. The fish was really fresh, high quality, with a perfect texture and not a single string. Seasonings were tasty but not overpowering. I am a spicy ahi guy and enjoyed theirs but I loved the shoyu limu even more. So ono! This will sound petty but the one part of my poke bowl that I didn't enjoy was the rice which was dry and maybe a bit undercooked. Sad face. In December Gilligan's poke bowls were running $12 a pop. By February the price had jumped to $13. Now it's May and they're $14 apiece. I understand that everything is going up in price but Gilligan's is outpacing the actual inflation rate by a fairly significant amount. That said, it's still likely one of the lower priced lunchtime take-out (only) options in Sausalito. Gilligan's features 3 versions of poke atop your choice of hot white or brown rice with a sprinkle of Furikake if desired. It's quick, simple, very fresh, and filling and I'm certain I'll return. That said though, I'll not opt for the Ahi Limu Poke as it did little to thrill me. I'd planned to consume my poke bowl later but I noticed that the rice atop which the poke was placed was hot when I got it. Concerned that the poke would inadvertently cook if I didn't consume it soon, I found a nearby bench and started eating, plans be damned. Marin isn't a hotbed of poke bowl joints so it could be said that Gilligan's is filling a void. The bowls are nothing like my favorite poke bowl place in SoCal where fish and rice are a backdrop to all the other add-ons, but if you're happy with a more spartan (and still very fresh) poke bowl, you'll likely be satisfied with what Gillian's offers. read more

Used to like this place, but as with most things, great stuff doesn't last. They claim to be open until 5pm, but in my last 3 visits, they've been closed by 3pm. Once even at 2pm. Irresponsible of them to not change their hours to reflect that, especially when customers are making a 20+ minute drive out there just to be turned around. I've been a staunch customer for 2 years and these guys have lost their touch on quality. It's hit or miss on the fish, which will sometimes have a velvety mouth feel and mushy texture instead of a steaky one. One time my chopsticks would slice right through the pieces and I couldn't even pick them up. It's a shame to see the place fall into shambles, just as it was being embraced by the community. We stopped by Gilligan's on our way up North as we were passing through Sausalito. Tucked away in the back of a market was Gilligan's and we were treated with such great energy and service. For about $15 you get your choice of white or brown rice and then poke. I'm not sure if the flavors of like rotate, but the day we went there was Shoyu Ahi, Spicy Ahi and Limu Ahi. The price was pretty steep in my option, considering the depth of the bowl for wa a half the size compared to what you'd get at another Poke shop. We got the Spicy Ahi and Limu Ahi and I would say quality wise, the ahi was very fresh and melt in your mouth. However, I wish that there was more oomph in flavor. Overall, I'm giving Gilligan's 4 stars because of the great service and freshness of ahi! read more

The fish was definitely up there. it wasn't like it was sitting there for a while. I'm not sure we can truly compare the taste to the authentic poke of Hawaii. I mean, if you really have to have poke in Marin and there is no other spot, then this would do, I guess.
