It's hard to put into words how amazing my experience at Gibson's Italia was. Let me start my saying this restaurant is absolutely beautiful. They have three areas - outside seating/terrance on the water, a formal dining room with white table cloths, and a bar area that is more upbeat rather than formal. We ordered sooo many things: - Arinchini - Shrimp cocktail - Garlic foccocia - Artichoke - Chopped salad - cacio e pepe - Steak - Chicken parm - whipped Potatoes - Mushrooms - wine - martinis Although I would order EVERYTHING again because it was all some of the best food I've ever had, I would say you absolutely have to order the cacio e pepe. This was by far the best bite of the whole meal! I also loved the foccocia, whipped potatoes and mushrooms. I really don't think you can go wrong ordering. We also had the BEST server ever. His name was Fernando and he made our whole dinner an experience rather than just a meal. If you can request him, I would! We loved him. read more

My mom, sister and I visited Gibsons the other night to celebrate my mother's birthday. It was a special night and we were all looking forward to a wonderful dinner. The food: we ordered arancini for an appetizer and it was good. We enjoyed a different take on arancini than what we were used to, as it was served with a white sauce. Our waiter gave us a breakdown of the menu, pointing out some favorite entrees. He described the chicken Parmesan as you would expect - a pounded, breaded chicken breast. My sister and I both love chicken parm so we both ordered it, while my mom ordered the branzino. Our food arrived and we were surprised to find that our chicken Parmesan was definitely not a pounded chicken breast. It was very thick and when we cut into our dinners, we quickly realized that the chicken was breaded with the skin still on it! Not only that, but the chicken breast was not boneless, nor was it covered with melted mozzarella as one would expect with chicken Parmesan. We were not really disappointed as neither of us enjoy eating chicken skin, and with the chicken not being pounded it really wasn't crispy like chicken parm should be. The entree was served with a side of rigatoni that was extremely spicy- and I don't shy away from spice. We notified our waiter that it was too spicy for our liking and he offered to bring us new sides of pasta with a plain red sauce (rather than the spicy vodka sauce that was on the rigatoni). We continued to eat, but slowly so we'd have some chicken to go with our pasta. The pasta took at least ten minutes, and we only received it that quickly because one of the staff came by to see if we wanted our food boxed. At that time we told him we were still waiting for the pasta, and he went to get it right away. My mom's branzino was fine, but definitely not spectacular. For dessert, we ordered the banana Oreo dessert and that was delicious. The service- not great. We felt like our waiter was very nice but we waited quite a bit as he was seated a table of 6 shortly after we sat down and he was very busy with them. I noticed at one point he had 4 tables- which seems high for a fine dining restaurant. I didn't feel like the service was anywhere near as good as I would expect at a restaurant of this caliber but I think that is because the waiter was not able to keep up. The atmosphere- very, very loud. The restaurant is nice and it has beautiful views but I felt like the tables were way too close together. We had people seated on either side of our table and I was unable to get up and past either side to use the restroom without having to squeeze through the space between the chair at our table and the person next to us. Speaking of restrooms- they were very shabby. I went to the first restroom and a man had obviously been in there prior to me- toilet seat was up- and there was a decent sized puddle of urine in the floor and the base of the toilet. I went to the next bathroom and it was better, but because I was very cautious about there being wet urine on the floor, I saw that the floor by the toilet was dry, but very spotted, as if it hadn't been cleaned in some time. I noticed that the table that held the hand towels was covered in a white cloth napkin which looked kind of low class. I lifted the napkin and it was obviously placed there to cover the top of the cabinet, which was very scratched up. I know some of this may sound nit-picky but to me, there are so many amazing restaurants to dine at in Chicago. In order to retain my business, you need to be one of the best- and I certainly didn't feel that Gibson's Italia was anywhere near the best. read more

My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary at Gibsons Italia, and it was the perfect place for a special dinner. From the moment we arrived, everything felt elevated. The restaurant is beautiful, with stunning views of the Chicago River and skyline, making it an ideal spot for a date night or celebration. We started with the Acquerello Arancini, and they were absolutely delicious. The crispy exterior paired perfectly with the creamy, cheesy risotto filling and rich fonduta. For my entrée, I ordered the 7 oz Filet Mignon with the mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked exactly as requested, incredibly tender, and seasoned perfectly. The mashed potatoes were smooth, buttery, and the perfect complement to the filet. To drink, I had the Pinkies Up cocktail, which was refreshing, light, and beautifully balanced with strawberry, lemon, St. Germain, and sparkling rosé. We couldn't resist ordering two desserts to share, and they were both incredible. The Spumoni Baked Alaska was a standout with its flourless chocolate cake, pistachio nougatine, chocolate ganache, spumoni gelato, toasted meringue, and Luxardo cherries. It was beautifully presented and had a perfect balance of flavors and textures. We also ordered the Chocolate Cake, which was rich, decadent, and paired perfectly with the vanilla ice cream. The service was exceptional throughout the evening. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and made our anniversary feels special without being over the top. Every course arrived at a comfortable pace, giving us plenty of time to enjoy each dish and the atmosphere. Gibsons Italia exceeded our expectations in every way. Between the incredible food, outstanding service, breathtaking views, and elegant atmosphere, it made for an unforgettable anniversary dinner. Here's a smoother, more natural Yelp review in your style: We had a reservation but still had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. While we were waiting, we went up to the bar and got a Rum Sunrise and an Espresso Martini, and both were delicious. We were seated on the third floor, which was very clean and had a nice atmosphere. We had a large table all to ourselves, and the seating was spaced out enough that you couldn't really see or hear the people next to you, which was nice. We ordered the 7 oz filet, a side of mushrooms, the arancini, and the ravioli carbonara. Everything was delicious. The mushroom sauce was especially good, the egg on top of the ravioli was different but worked well, and the filet was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Adding the roasted garlic on top made it even better. The arancini were crispy on the outside, cheesy on the inside, and full of flavor. For dessert, we got the banana gelato. The Oreo on the outside was a little hard, but that was really the only downside. The banana, caramel, and everything else paired together really well. The Chantilly cream was a little more buttery than sweet, but it still complemented the dessert nicely. Our server was very accommodating and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. My review is based off my recent experience. I do not know if this is normal service but this is what we experienced. I made a reservation for 7 people at 8pm to celebrate a birthday. We were seated pretty quickly in the main dining area. The first thing we noticed was how bumpy the tables were. It felt like the table had a cushion top. Any sudden movement could send your water glass flying. Therefore, we were very careful about where we placed our glasses. However we did experience a spill with our espresso martini because of the uneven table. Our table ordered a variety of food to share as a group. We ordered the garlic focaccia bread and Italia meatball as our appetizer and the mini royal platter. I did mention to them that I had a shellfish allergy but my group would still like to experience their shellfish. I think that was my mistake because our server mentioned that there was a lot of paperwork to be filled out for my shellfish allergy. The first star taken off will be because we waited an hour for the bread and seafood tower to come out. It was 9:05pm according to my photos when we first received the food. Everything was tasty as presented. My group did not give any outstanding remarks but we did finish everything. The second star taken off will be because we waited almost an hour after the appetizers were delivered to the table. For our entrees, we ordered the spicy rigatoni, fusilli, Chicago cut, New York strip, and the chicken parm. For our sides, we ordered the fries, potatoes puree, mushroom and Brussels sprouts. Before the food came out, we mentioned to our server that we were hungry and waiting still waiting for the food. He said he can get the fries out immediately if we would like. So we agreed. We didn't confirm with him and he didn't confirm with us that this would be an additional order. We just thought that it was our original fries order. But our receipt said that we were charged twice for the fries. It was almost 10pm when we got our food so the taste wasn't even a discussion. We ate our meal, paid, and left. They did bring us a birthday treat but it wasn't special since we were disappointed by the service. It definitely helped that the day my wife and I went for lunch was a beautiful day. It was for her birthday lunch and we had a great time there. The reservation was made relatively last minute but didn't run into any issues. We were seated outside on the second or the thirs floor balcony and it worked great since the day was beginning to be hot and the balcony casted a nice shade over us. It was slightly windy, which made for a cool-ish breeze. We splitted a pasta dish and a salad and they were both lovely. No complaints. Another amazing and memorable dinner at Gibsons Italia, this time celebrating our anniversary. Service and wait staff was unparalleled and did everything to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Very attentive and friendly people who go the extra mile to make this a cut above a normal restaurant experience. The meal was another star. Ribeye cut was a must order. The char and finishing salt made this one of the best steaks in the city, even rivaling the lauded Bavette's. The Brussels sprouts are a must order. Probably best I've ever had. Chicken Parmesan a comfort mainstay and comes with a side of the spicy rigatoni. Finally the risotto was delicious, creamy, and hearty. Huge umami profile with it. First the table - they attempted to place us in the corner by the kitchen and sever traffic area. - we asked kindly to move which they kindly accommodated. Wine. - I had to order 3 different times only to be told they were out of the selection- for what felt like 10 minutes in between bottles. When the sommelier finally recommended a bottle they had stock of, - it was the wine I ordered in the beginning- 1. Food. - ordered for the table- meatballs, Mozzarella/melon and prosciutto cesar, octopus and beats. - meatballs cold, octopus never arrived. Cesar poorly dressed - focaccia bread hard as a rock. So we finally decided to head to Gibsons Italia. We had heard so many good things from so many people but for some reason didn't get to visit so far. First impressions when we walked in. Very courteous staff and we were seated at the best seat in the house - overlooking the river! From the get-go we knew we wanted the chicago cut so we planned to get the charred broccolini salad and the charred artichoke to try the veggie options. Paired all of that with a rose for me and my hubby got the limoncello spritz. The charred artichoke was the first thing that arrived, with the lemon and capers aioli. It was easily the best artichoke dish I've had. Crispy, creamy goodness. The broccolini salad was fresh and herby and had the perfect crunch with the sliced apples. The rose and spritz balanced the apps perfectly. Finally came the chicago cut, a beautiful, well marbled cut of ribeye which was everything we thought it would be. It comes with a charred garlic and onion on the side which were a great addition of the steak. Highly recommend! We ended the meal with their famous banana gelato which was sumptuous!! Special place in my heart. I got married here and it was absolutely perfect. Liz and Dennis were amazing to coordinate with, the venue itself is GORGEOUS for a micro wedding (we had about 40 people). During our wedding, Dennis was extremely attentive and it was very appreciated. He was very kind and checked in on what we wanted without being overbearing. The upstairs venue fully opens up to become an outdoor rooftop venue (the roof retracts and the balconies all open) so it's amazing for an indoor/outdoor option depending on the weather. Even if it's rainy, everything is glass so it still looks beautiful. The food and drinks were outstanding, almost everyone commented on that aspect as well. Biased but honestly unbiased opinion, best wedding food I've ever experienced. My husband and I came back for our anniversary dinner and the food was AMAZING again! Spicy vodka pasta is the best. Once in the restaurant we had the "Italian meatballs " for starters , I give them a solid 8/10. The ricotta wasn't overpowering , so I appreciate that. The Caesar salad was yummy & I had one of the best steaks I've ever had here . First time trying a bone in filet mignon 12 oz and I would go back solely for this. You've gotta add this to your list if you're looking for an elevated meal. Every single dish we had was absolutely delicious in such different ways. We started with the charred octopus which was served beautifully and accompanied with a variety of delicious aioli's. The texture was amazing, and the presentation was stunning. Unfortunately, I only took a photo after the server cut the octopus. For entrees, I went with the 7 Year Aged Aquarella Risotto served with fresh scallops and leeks. This dish was so silky and absolutely swimming in a creamy, buttered sauce. The scallops were clean and cooked nicely. I would've loved to see something crunchy or fresh atop this dish to really pull the dish together. But no complaints overall, and I cleared the whole thing. We also ordered the spicy rigatoni pasta. The pasta was cooked perfectly au dente. I'm honestly not a fan of pasta, and rarely find a dish that stands out amongst others, but this was high up on my list. It was a great balance of sauce, cheese, crispy topping, and overall probably our favorite dish of the night. I'd highly recommend it as someone who usually doesn't favor pasta at dinner. My boyfriend ordered a steak as well (not sure the cut - see image). We are big steak people, and he claims this is one of his top steaks from a restaurant. We also had a little birthday dessert, which I don't see on the menu, but the ice cream (I think it was banana gelato) was insane!!! I would highly recommend trying the actual banana gelato on the dessert menu if you go. We didn't dive into the cocktail menu. I stuck to pinot grigio so no big review there! This review wouldn't be complete without acknowledging the beautiful view of the river as well. From the minute we sat down they ensured we always had a drink and that our orders were taken quickly to get food out in good time. Very disappointed with this place. It was my first time here and we were celebrating my daughter's birthday. My steak had a hair in it. I let them know and they gave me a new steak but it was under cooked so had to send it back once again. By the time they brought it back everyone was already done eating. When we got the check we didn't get any type of discount or even an apology from the manager. Not even a fee dessert. We expected better from such a high end place. Had a 6pm reservation to celebrate my fathers 60th birthday, they were kind enough to give us a window table with an amazing view on the water. We had a plethora of dishes from apps to entrees and desserts. The big eye Crudo was a 7.5/10 overall flavor was good, and the endive leave was a great crunch. The Garlic Focaccia Bread was a 4/10 the bread itself was good, but barely hinted garlic and where it came in a beautiful presentation of smoke and glass the Smokey flavor definitely overpowered the palate. The Parmesan Fonduta was the best part of this dish. The Market Oysters from Washington was a 8/10 they were cleaned well and not overly salty or briny. The Mignonette was the perfect acidity balance. The beef tartare was a 7.5/10 - the mustard seeds had great balance with the onions, and the bread toasted well. The crispy artichoke was only a 5/10 as the fried oil toon the star of the show. I1 I was a bit taking back, but the heart was overall the best part. The 7-YEAR AGED ACQUERELLO RISOTTO was a 8/10 the scallops were cooked perfectly with a nice sear, and tender. The risotto came in at a 6.5/10. Where it was cooked perfectly the leeks and Parmesan sauce wasn't the best. The branzino was a 9/10 cooked perfectly, flavorful and moist. It did seem deboned, although I didn't ask to confirm. The Australian Ribeye was a 8.5/10 with great marbling sear and flavor. The Chicago cut was a 9/10 I feel it had a bit better taste than the ribeye. The cut had a more consistent sear and overall deeper flavor profile. CACIO E PEPE was good, not overly peppered and had the perfect amount of cheese without being too thick in texture. Spicy Rigatoni came in at a 8/10 too. The pasta was definitely cooked perfectly al dente but the sauce wasn't very spicy and a bit on the more dry side.
