This place is the 1st and ONLY place that I have ever gone to for Back to Back meals!! My daughter plays travel softball, so we as a family have a routine down, directly after her last game, we find the nearest burger joint and stuff our faces! Friday night game ends, but Araya has to go with the team back to hotel leaving the wife and I to ourselves. We find Giant burger late. We ask the waitress flat out: "We know your closing in 35 minutes, should we come by tomorrow??" The AWESOME waitress says "Honey, we love what we do here! But the Giant burger takes two hours to cook." So I inquire "2 hours!??" "Well. It's 5 pounds of meat, so yeah". Me- "Damn!!!!" I ordered a clubhouse sandwich and the wife a 3/4# three cheese burger. Our food arrives and I Instantly regret NOT getting a burger. It's huge and it looks good, but my club sandwich is also huge and delicious. I look up and my wife is DONE with her burger, I mean INHALED!! I ask her "did you taste it?!?!?" she gets a bit embarrassed, "it was SOOO good!!" Fast forward to Saturday 1pm. 104 degrees outside. We are eliminated from tournament so, we head right back to Giant burger. This time we all order the milkshakes with our meals. I ordered a 1 pound 3 cheese burger. It was amazing. I got the classic and it was delicious, especially the cheese, seems like they shove a ball of it into the middle so that it melts as it cooks. Also got the Fire Fire Fries. Delicious! My favorite for years now has been the Jalapeño Popper. Ugh!!!! I want one know. The Juicy Lucille is like so good it gives you dreams later. And they have delicious milkshakes. Went here for the first time in about 10 years. They have great burgers all kinds of options the garlic fries were bomb. Fry sauce was good too. There was a bit of a wait but it was worth it. They gave a shake and ice cream cone on the house because of it. Definitely going back! read more

SO I definitely need to update my review here. The last two visits here were absolutely horrible. I now believe they have the worst customer service in the area. They could definitely benefit by removing one woman in particular. My fiance and myself have been customers for the last 7 years, with my family being customers for as long as I can remember. We generally always get the same thing and has never been an issue until now. Their service and "policies" are so inconsistent we were almost afraid to go back and get our replacement order, which of course was wrong, met with anger/hostility from the wait staff and generally was not the quality that kept us coming back. Giant Burger has been around for years. I always remember being a kid and begging my mom for a dollar so I could walk up and get a bubble gum ice cream cone. It was one of my favorite things ever, and something that has endeared me to Giant Burger still to this day. So when, on my most recent visit home, mom suggested we hit Giant Burger for dinner, I was so excited. It would be the first time I had been since I was probably 7 or 8 years old. Only this time, I wasn't going for the bubble gum ice cream. We walked in and found a seat. First thing I will say... you DO NOT go to this place for the fantastic service. Not that it was bad per se, just not exactly attentive and friendly. We sat for a couple minutes before someone brought a menu and then she was back about 10 seconds later wanting to take our order. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger, which was great. Meaty goodness in a bun to be sure. And the potato wedges were awesome. Actually, all 3 varieties of potato we tried were excellent. One of my favorite things about this place was the fact you get to choose from 5 different cuts of potato. I did have to talk my husband out of trying to do the 5 pound burger challenge. He always talks about wanting to go to the places on Man v Food, so when we found a place with a challenge, he really wanted to try it out. I would love to watch someone do it, but not my husband. I didn't ask if they still had the bubble gum ice cream, but I hope they do. So check out Giant Burger. It's tasty and affordable. The service isn't anything spectacular. I remember years'n'years ago when they first opened. A humble little place, but very clean. A small menu, but everything oh so fresh. *sigh* Well, that's changed. I hadn't been there in years, but I've been raving about the place, and my partner and I finally decided to go grab a burger. My partner ordered a Reuben burger. I'm told it wasn't the best of its kind, but aside from the fact that PART of it had far too much mayo on it, he said that if we were to ever go back, he'd get it again. And then there's me. I have to admit, I'm picky...but this went way beyond that. They have a HUGE menu now... Huge. So huge that the cook had no idea what was supposed to go on my burger... I had the Triple G, which is supposed to be a garlic embedded patty, served with roasted garlic, on garlic Texas toast... The first time it came, I got it on a burger bun. The patty was visibly embedded with garlic...there were some chunks of garlic (the kind you get in a jar...since I roast my own garlic, not quite what I was expecting)...and this...burger bun. So, since I was going for the garlic experience, I asked if they could go with the toast... *shrug* The second time it came out, it was on the softest, floppiest Texas toast ever. The meat was now...rather cold, but...I had asked for the toast, so... Okay, they did put it on Texas toast... So I took a bite. The WHOA MAYO! noises my sweetie made earlier sounded quiet compared to my version. When I took the bread off, it was, VERY literally, over 1/4" thick in condiments... The lettuce, when I removed IT from the sandwich, had at least the same amount of mayo on it as the bread had. To be honest, I'm figuring they'll go broke on condiments alone soon with this new cook... *shaking head* Did I mention that the garlic on the toast was garlic SALT... Whoa, salty...but I actually did expect that... And then there was that from-a-jar roasted garlic that was supposed to be ON the burger in addition to what was embedded IN the burger... The first time around, with the burger bun, there was, oh, maybe a spoonful. Tops. I have always been of the opinion that there is no such thing as too much garlic. I have had to change my mind. If I had thought the mayonnaise was thick...oh, boy, this was twice as thick...easily. I no longer believe that there's no such thing as too much garlic - and that distresses me...but this was, honestly...way too much. *shudder* We got onion rings, too. OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS PLACE. We don't make the trip over the bridge to Springfield very often; Giant Burger isnt in the best location. BUT DO NOT LET THAT STOP YOU. I actually dream about their burgers. They are that good. Just thinking about them makes my mouth water. Their burgers are hand-formed, 100% local, thick, juicy and way too good for words!!! Beers are a good price too. They have 22oz frozen mugs that can be filled up with your favorite beer. The atmosphere is very mom & pop springfield but the service is very nice. It's more a great place of the family to go. This place is one of Springfield's best kept secrets. There is never a wait! Giant Burger serves the type of food my relatives in Taiwan dreamily imagine Americans eat on a daily basis- 5 lb. flame-licked burgers, mountains of fries, and creamy milkshakes served with a side of chili cheese dogs. That is, in a nutshell, their American Dream. My uncle, in particular, would lose it if I told him about Giant Burger's Bacon Bacon Bacon Burger- a bacon studded beef patty topped w/ bacon, and served on a bacon-buttered bun. Or the Krusty Burger- a beer battered hot sauce-splashed cheeseburger. I, on the other hand, often find myself torn between the choice of a grilled cheese or a burger, so I was excited to behold the Phat Bubba- a cheeseburger melted between 2 grilled cheeses on Texas Toast. That and a large side of garlic fries (photographed & shared via LINE), I reasoned, would be enough to make all my relatives jealous. Unfortunately, I found reading the menu more pleasurable than the dining experience. The Phat Bubba, though impressive in concept, heft and architecture, featured a greasy, well-done patty smothered under a mountain of melty American cheese, which dulled any other flavor after the first bite. Still, I was happy enough (... 30 minutes later...) to check "grilled cheese cheeseburger" off my bucket list & put my FOMO to rest. (Grilled cheeses? Yas. Burgers? Yas. Both smashed together? Nahh.) The garlic fries were hot, crisp & tossed with liberal amounts of fresh garlic- worth a return trip, if they had come out the first time around in lieu of the tots, which I did not order. Unfortunately, I was unable to let the server know about the mistake until 15 minutes later, when she finally made eye contact with me and my dining partner (hooray!) Water refills were also impossible to request, both from the booth and at the counter, despite there being less than 6 people dining in. We intended to order a milkshake for dessert, but were unable to, as the few times our server came by (to drop off food and hand us the bill) she would take off from our table at what seemed like a running start- no commentary, no eye contact. Still, we wanted a chocolate shake! An hour in, I walked up to the counter to see if I could order one. No dice- a party of 4 had just walked in and started perusing menus, and the server let me know that a milkshake would take another 50+ minutes to make. Noooope. Nopenopenope, I'll take a hard pass, thank you. I imagine there's a magic hour to visit Giant Burger, during which you can get your 1/2 lb chili cheese dog, 6 variations of fries, lemon meringue pie shake (omnomnomnom) and even a water refill (!) within a half hour. The sign on the wall states explicitly that "This is NOT fast food" Take that to heart, you go to a place like this to slow down, have a milkshake with friends and indulge in a MASSIVE delicious burger. Not to stop in on you're lunch break and complain that you don't get your burger in 3 minutes. I got my milkshake as soon as I ordered it, but Perfect Bacon takes time to make. And on my Blue Moon Burger (blue cheese, bacon, and general deliciousness) the bacon was just that. I'm from Portland, so I'm used to the server mentality that if you don't treat the staff well, they wont treat you well. I sat at the bar and was greeted with smiles and hilarious stories. Pricing is to be expected, about the same as a Mcminnimans burger but with twice as much goodness and a perfectly soft bun. So calm yourself child. Sit down and play some Angry Birds while you wait, make conversation with a stranger, there are always interesting people in this part of town. And let the decor, as well as the delicious food, take you back to the time when a diner was more than just a place to stop for a nibble. I've lived in Eugene/Springfield area now for over 10 years.. thought there weren't any independent ole fashioned mom-n-pop good burger joints in either town, but.. this place is a diamond in the rough! We had driven by this place several times - hardly even gave it a look; the outside appearance is nothing special, but then we saw these ratings on the net -got curious- and decided to give 'em a go. The appearance is kind of like an out-of-date Dairy Queen, so don't expect great ambiance. Its not very big.. I would imagine the seating capacity is well below 50. Now.. here's where it gets.. GOOD. The hamburgers these guys serve are GREAT! Cooked to near perfection, surprisingly.. not greasy (!) or overcooked, and I understand locally produced cattle provide the meat. Hungry? You gotta check out this place. The smallest burger is about 1/6 of a pound.. then it gets bigger and Bigger and BIGger and STILL BIGGER. If you like a challange, there is a re-friggin'-diculous challange burger.. get this.. FIVE POUNDS of ground beef, not to mention a mountain of fries, which were good, but not quite as good as the Robin. My gf and I knew we weren't going to be able to finish it, but got the (*GULP!*) 2 pounder so we could have some to take home. Despite our best effort, we couldn't finish quite 1/2 of the behemoth. What did this cost? Around $15, which isn't bad, considering the HUGE size of the thing. Will I go back? HELL YA! The service was just adequate, or I'd have given them the magic 5 star rating, but all the employees were friendly and courteous. They even have Oregon lottery slot machines (mini casino) and ATM in the back of the restaurant. One of these places is needed near the University of Oregon.. they'd make a fortune! Oh yes, I understand they have great shakes here, but $6 is kind of steep, so I took a pass on it. I do know they use Umqua ice cream (great local Oregon Dairy brand). Sooooo... as I often like to remind myself, and others--our experiences are entirely subjective. That being said... I love me a trip to giant burger. I'm sure you could find a few reasons to knock this place. But where is that not the case, right? I've been here many times over the past 16 years, and i always leave mostly happy. They have occasional "off" days, probably due to who they've staffed. But in large part, the food is always good. Like any other business.... it's tough to find good help. On my last visit I got their super spicy burger (with two extra patties), a shake, and some O-rings. The food was all perfect. The staff were fantastic. The floors... very very greasy! If you are ok with tired old seating, some grease on the floor, huge portions, low cost/good quality food, and an occasional miss in at least one area of your dining experience... then this place will not disappoint. After all, it's just a burger joint. They aren't selling crab encrusted halibut fillets here. Bring a friend, share good stories fill your belly, and leave knowing you just ate at small business that tries to bring you good food... if nothing else. read more

Seems like a lot of the bad reviews around here are from people who expect every restaurant visit to be their own little taste of the life of royalty, with servers bowing to their every whim and apologizing for having the audacity to make a perfectly human mistake. I go here about twice a month. Not once has the service been bad. I've gotten the wrong fries with my burger by accident and they were happy to replace them. If you treat the wait staff like people and not servants, they'll be as nice and accommodating as can be. And I think a lot of people don't understand that's the kind of atmosphere you should expect at a burger dive like this. The place is a no-frills burger delivery station, and that's exactly what you get. You don't go here for the "restaurant experience", you come for an incredible burger. And that's where they excel The food itself is incredible. The patties are never overcooked and the amount of variety in the burgers lets you come back every week and never get tired of what you get. My personal favorite is the Thug. The fries(especially the curly fries) are wonderfully salty and have just enough grease that you get all the deliciousness without too much of the gastrointestinal distress that comes later. Shakes are top of the line(best one is the chocolate peanut butter). The wait times usually depend on how busy the place is, but I usually expect to wait 20-30 minutes from ordering to eating. And for a place that makes such extravagant burgers to order, that's perfectly reasonable. Bring some friends along and chat about how great your lunch is about to taste and it'll arrive in no time. I didn't rate this place 5 stars because there are definitely a couple flaws that could stand to be fixed. Firstly, doughy onion rings are a blight on this world and giant burger should definitely work on crisping them up. Secondly, the shakes are pretty expensive for what you get. They taste incredible, but I always have a hard time justifying shelling out 6.50 for what I know is just a few scoops of Umpqua ice cream with some ice and syrup in a blender. That seems like a really high markup. Finally(this is a minor nitpick that no one should really care about), I asked about the fries for the 5lb burger challenge, and they said they use frozen ones for the challenge instead of their stellar home-made ones. And if I'm going to attempt to eat 7 pounds of hamburger I won't want to follow it up with low-quality frozen fries. Overall, it's the best burger joint in the area, and as long as you don't try to pull your best King Geoffrey impression to the wait staff, you'll have no problems with service. read more

With the closing of Phatty's Snack Shack *tear-tear*, Giant Burger is now probably the first place I'd go to satisfy my red-meat cravings. Like when I've been eating salads for seemingly forever and all of a sudden I just want a dead animal for dinner! So we go to the ghetto where there's cheap neon lights and sketchy parking lots, and enter this tiny restaurant with the giant burgers. You don't HAVE TO order the 2 lb burger, though I've seen it done haha. Four guy friends of ours were challenging each other to see who could finish the 2lb burger first, and as disgusting as it was to watch, I could see they were just LOVING those burgers. 2lbs? Damn right it better be tasty! And they were! (I had a small slice once, yum!) Don't fear though, Giant Burger makes lots of regularly sized burgers, all very filling and fairly creative! The bane of my existence is a bland burger, a burger that doesn't even taste like beef. These guys do not have that at all. Their burgers (whether you want veggie, beef, chicken, or that one burger where they give you a barn of animals between two buns) are everything that a burger should be: juicy, manly, greasy, and grossly amazing. You'll feel like a fatty afterward, but I strongly believe that the best burgers are the ones that make you moan 'uuuugh that was soooooo bad for me.....but it was SOOOOOO goood :)' ps waitresses are sweethearts here, very down to earth and fun people! Service is great. They've also got beer, a variety of fries options, and a whole bunch of other stuff on the menu that looks great but I've yet to try cause we always go there for the meaty cravings haha. Used to LOVE this place and have referred so many friends and family there. Unfortunately, our experience the other night was awful! and we have no plans of ever going back. There were four people in our party. First of all, it took over a 45 minutes for the first burger to come out. My boyfriend and friends all had their meals brought out separately, about five minutes apart. My burger wasn't done until after everybody else had FINISHED their food. When I told the waitress I had come to eat WITH my friends and didn't even want it, she said I should have told her sooner, because their policy was that if it was ordered, it has to be paid for. No offer to comp my drink or anything, no % off the ticket, nothing. Just got a snotty attitude when I asked her for her name and her manager's name & number. When we didn't leave a tip, she even had the audacity to complain to our friends because , "she can hardly afford to support herself working there." I guess we should have paid attention to the guy in the parking lot that told us to not go in there, they're just not the same. read more

Giant Burger is amazing! Every now and then, my friends and I want something awesome to eat. I don't just mean an afternoon lunch, I'm talking about epic meal time style hamburgers that stretch the gut fibers. If you're looking for the same adventure, Giant Burger is the place to go. This small building sells huge burgers, things that normal restaurants can't even imagine. The "Thug", a distant cousin of a former burger called the "Terminator", is the burger I'm usually after when I want to gorge myself to happy submission. This beautiful monstrosity has Bacon, Beef, Chicken, Ham and cheese stacked between two buns in a basket with a side of your choice. If you feel extra crazy, you can add a fried egg to the burger for an extra dollar. I usually stick with the normal fries and leave out the egg . It's almost impossible to eat with one hand, but two hands on that thing doesn't make it fit in the mouth any easier. I usually smash the huge burger down and take smaller bites around the front. It's not your normal monster burger by any means, and there is no way to eat it without looking fully American. The location off of main street is easily accessible and the parking is always ample. The quick and friendly service always makes me feel welcome and comfortable. The building is small so it's nearly impossible to lose sight of someone who can refill you're drink. I'd say the only downside is the video poker room in the back. I've never had an issue with the sort of people that video poker rooms attract but I've seen some sketchy types hanging out in there. Only go if you have an appetite for awesome. they serve smaller burgers with just as much personality but the main attraction (In my opinion) is the thug. If you REALLY want to impress the ladies, you can take the 10lbs challenge. 5lbs of beef formed in to a humongous burger and 5lbs of fries. Free if charge if you can eat it all within the time limit. This place is tasty, but I can't get past the ora surrounding and in this place. The food is relatively overpriced (I come from the LA area where every greasy spoon burger place has at least one burger combo for 2.99 or so). Be prepared to spend 5-7 bucks for a decent burger (which I personally think is kind of high for the quality). The shakes, although still pricey, are AMAZING... delicious shakes, and the workers are willing to prepare your shake however you want, combining any number of ingredients. I had what the lady called the "Banana Split Shake" with vanilla ice cream, a shot of chocolate, some pineapple, banana, and strawberries. Delicious. I am always weary of an establishment when I feel like I need a shower when I leave and I have to squirt some purell in my hands just cause I touched the counter. I'd like to give this place 4 stars, but they lose a star for price, and another for cleanliness/atmosphere. Overall... I would really only recommend this place for carry out. I have been going here quite often lately, especially since the new menu. The food ranges from being fantastic to just nasty. The onion rings are HUGE, but the beer batter they use is quite tasteless. They are not very consistent either. One week you can order a burger, and it will be fantastic and great portions of cheese, onions, tomatoes. The next week, it could be just the opposite. And for some strange reason, they will not cook your burger to temperature. They are still convinced that burgers in Oregon have to be cooked to 165 degrees internally. This is completely not true, I have worked in many establishments and you can cook meat to other temperatures. There only has to be a disclaimer on the menu. I am not a huge fan of fries, but they have natural fries here. Be sure to request them to be extra crispy, or they will come limp and soggy. I would lean from 2.5 to 3 as the average on this place. Some experiences have been a 4.5..but mainly due to the inconsistencies, I would give this place a 2.5 Once they actually cook your food to temp, it might be higher. Nothing is worse than a dry, yet greasy burger. PS. Usually takes around 20 minutes to get your food, even when they are dead. Not a place to 'grab a quick bite'. read more

It's a hole in the wall of a joint that has a large selection of interesting burgers. As far as decor goes, yes, it's dated, and seating seems a bit awkward if you go by yourself -- you're sitting at a booth meant to seat four people. It was very easy for me to get service, even when a group of ten ladies followed me into the restaurant not even seven minutes later. My drink was always topped off, the ladies were very friendly, and my choice of burger tried to melt my face. I opted to try the Inferno, which is a jalapeno studded burger, generously slathered with a fresh habañero inferno sauce, and adorned with cayenne pepper, green chilis, pepper jack cheese and grilled onions. I am not used to getting a burger that actually bites back, being often punished with food that's had its flavor and spark watered down for the general masses. After managing to eat this thing, my lips are slightly numb, my tongue is burning, my stomach is on fire, and my nasal cavity is the clearest it has been since moving to Oregon. I also had the irish chips with the burger. I can't punish a business for my experimental phase -- I thought they would be wedge-shaped cuts of potatoes, fried. I did not expect slices nearly as thin as crisps. They left me wanting a little, but again, my fault -- I could've gone for a cut that I already knew. They have a ton of burger options (including the Bacon Bacon Bacon...you can infer what this burger is all about). The burgers come in multiple sizes (1/4lb, 1/2lb, etc) which is great for those without gargantuan appetites. The jojos (A.K.A. Potato Wedges) were delicious...especially with the fry sauce. Sorry, when a friend and I went a few weeks ago there was hardly no one else there waiting to be served and 2 burger and 2 curly fries took them 40 minutes to reach our table. And my friend's apple pie shake didn't reach him until well after the burger did. The fries were cold and greasy and both burgers were way way over cooked and dry by the time we got them even though we asked them for as rare as possible with a lot of pink in the meat. The food was way over priced for being so bad. Definitely NOT going back. read more

I just went to Giant Burger for the first time today and OMG it was sooo good! I had the Cowboy Bob burger which, along with all the basics (tomato, onion, lettuce, cheese) had bacon, bbq sauce, and a giant onion ring. Every bite was delicious! I normally have a small appetite but I ate the whole meal plus all my chips! The service was very good the waitress who served us was so nice and helpful. The were only 2 downsides which were A, there were so many choices on the menu I had a terrible time deciding what would be the best, and B, It took a while to get our food but to me it was well worth the wait! My sister and I both got the 1/4 pound burger; I added bacon and bbq sauce on mine. The burger was good. I got a side of curly fries and my sister got onion rings. I wasn't impressed with the sides. The onion rings were a bit over breaded and undercooked so they were a little doughy, the fries were really salty and just didn't have the best flavor. Maybe we came on an off day. Giant burger has good, no-gimmick burgers. They choose quality meat and toppings- there's no special sauce everything is drenched in- its just a fresh, well made burger. They have an expansive menu of specialty burgers, and 4 different types of fries. The pricing is reasonable (burgers range from $6-$12 not including huge ones), though the specialty shakes are over $6 for one! Granted, a shake is more than enough for 2 people. The shakes are good (made with umpqua ice cream) but I don't think I'll get another unless I'm dying for one, simply because it's the price of an entree. My ticket came to 2 specialty burgers, 1 fry basket, 1 shake for $26 including tip. Atmosphere is kinda grungy- not dirty, but the whole interior is begging for a facelift. Each time I've come I've had to swat away a fly. Wait staff is nice, but god forbid you come with they're busy. I've never seen more than 3 people working at once. You WILL wait a long time if you come during a dinner rush. misc comments: The boyfriend complains they have mediocre ketchup (basically, not Hunt's).
