This place is a horrible, don't take your car there, they do not perform the services that you pay for. Took my BMW in for an oil change and four hours later, got a bill for $4200 of things I need done on my car, SUPPOSEDLY... Two months later my oil light comes on, I take it to the closest shop and they check my oil and it's BLACK! The shop tells me that the oil hasn't been changed in months and I should at least top off the oil and not drive around because it's very low and gritty. I called down to German auto, spoke with Richard, told him everything I was told and he tells me to come down. When I get there I ask Richard why my oil had not been changed. He checks my oil and proceeds to tell me that there's no way my oil was black. I tell him that I seen the oil (when I was topping it off) and it was black. He proceeds to call me a liar and gives the analogy that, if you take black tea and add water to it the color will not change...??? Crazy right??? Then he proceeds to pull out my service history and talks about a time in 2014 where I did not have the car serviced by them at all, then he starts to talk about how much money I've spent at the shop in the time I've been coming. What I got from this is, I haven't spent enough money, for my business to be important and I'm not allowed to have other shops working on MY car.... RIDICULOUS! The fact that they messed up on my car and never gave me an oil change has no baring. My check engine light is on now, never before, cause only GOD know how long I was driving with black oil before the light came on... What ended the conversation is, him saying I need a $100+ service, for him to find out if I need another $600 of work on my car... PRICELESS!! I spent 30 minutes of my time, not to mention the hour it took me to drive down there, in afternoon traffic. For him to check my oil and call me a liar??? I've been going to this place for years, it was a great place when I first started going there. It's really went down the drain, people are rude they have no customer service skills and they act like, they're the only place you can go to to get your BMW serviced. But now that I don't go to them anymore, I found out how much CHEAPER OTHER shops are AND they have MUCH better customer service. This place isn't what it used to be, I will never go there again. When they ticked me off in 2014, I should've never came back... I WILL NEVER COME BACK AFTER THIS!!! P.S. Another shop did the $4200 of work they said I need for LESS THAN HALF... LESS THAN... and charger me $0 to tell me that the $600 service IS NOT NEEDED!!! Go figure!!! SHOP AROUND PEOPLE... Don't waste your time & money here!!!! GERMAN AUTO SUCKS!!! RIPOFFS! read more

My wife has a 2005 VW New Beetle that has been serviced by German Auto Service for the past 3 years. We use to take it to a local VW Dealer amd became frustrated with their pricing. Our first encounter with the good folks at German Auto Service resulted in a repair cost that was 30% less than the VW Dealer we had been using quoted. Since then all oil changes and other repair needs have been left to them. read more

German auto is very professional and thorough, I feel they only recomend the needed work, although they are a 40 mile drive from my home it is worth it. I look forward to taking my Benz to them (for just routine maintainence hopefully) in the future as well. read more

WOW! The warranty on my MINI expired a year ago and all of the sudden a brake light came on. Well, just as if it were magic, I got a coupon from German Auto ,which prompted me to schedule an oil change there and have the brakes checked. Bottom line, I was blown away. Chuck, Bernie, etc were amazing. They were honest and said the brakes were ok. They fixed the light issue and (GET THIS) washed my car and added air to the tires....ALL for an Oil Change! In short, I now have a post-warranty place I can trust. GREAT folks, GREAT place, and I am ONE happy camper! read more

We have a 2005 VW Passat TDI with about 75,000 miles. It has been pampered and all oil changes, air filters and such are regularly maintained. I usually do most maintenance work myself but we just moved to Scottsdale area and I have not had the time. I looked online and found German Auto. Now my story begins... My experience with German Auto has been among the worst I have ever had. In fact, I do not generally write negative review assuming that most issues are singular events. However, in this case we began with a visit and just became a revolving door of the issue recurring and the car needing to be dropped off again and again and again. It is my opinion that the technicians do not have the ability to think beyond their OBD II scanners. In our case we took the car in because it was going into limp mode. German Auto repaired the turbo. We drove the car about a short while (less than a month) and the car went back into limp mode. Back it went for another turbo related repair at this point my wife told them it was shifting oddly too. My wife picked the car up Wednesday before Thanksgiving 2013 and made it about 10 miles before the car's console lit up again. They told her bring it back Friday morning. I showed up with the car and was told "Sorry we have no one here to drive you home (it was so pathetic that one of their customers offered me a ride) again I mentioned that the car seemed to be shifting oddly. They kept the car several days. We got it back but again we had it a short time when suddenly the car overheated. Now the car needs a whole new set of cooling system parts. A few more days in the shop, we're several thousand dollars into German Auto now. Christmas night we drive to visit family and the car starts shifting like mad then goes BLAM! Okay, I admit, I'm quite angry now. I have the car towed to a VW garage and call German Auto the next day. German Auto's solution is for me to pay to have it towed to them so they can "look it over" I ask them why the transmission was never inspected and they assure me it was and that there is "No way there is a transmission issue". VW slaps and OBD II scanner on it and, yep, transmission is shot. I ended up taking it to a transmission shop in Chandler to get it fixed they towed it for free and they did a complimentary scan. I was absolutely shocked when they said there are two cooling system issues being reported. Back to German Auto I go for warranty work on the work they had done less than one month before (which included replacing the thermostat again). Now three months later April 2014, the thermostat is bad again. Do you think I am going back to German Auto? Not on your life!!! I leave it to you to make your own decision. read more

On or around Jan 15, 2016 I had German Auto repair the eccentric shaft sensor on my 2007 BMW, due to the valve cover gasket leaking oil. In Dec 2016 I was informed by my local repair shop while getting an oil change performed, that they noticed my valve cover gasket had an small leak. On Jan 6, 2017 I took my vehicle back to German Auto for inspection, and was informed by them that no leak existed with my valve cover gasket. I took them at there word, and also kept the paperwork stating that no leak existed. Over the past months I have notice an consider amount of oil around my engine bay dripping on my driveway. Today is Jan 24, 2017 and I was just informed by another auto repair shop that the valve cover gasket is leaking oil. German Auto had the opportunity to resolve this issue when I first informed them in Jan 2017, and they falsely stated that the valve cover gasket was not leaking. Now I am paying money to have work done that I had already paid German Auto to perform barely 2 years ago. read more

Took car in to have (among other things) an automatic transmission shifting problem repaired. Was told car needed new transmission mount. I asked if the mechanic had been under car to visually inspect mount. Was told Yes. Actually, the mount did not need replacement, as I had replaced it myself only three weeks prior. Days later was told shifting was repaired, then during test drive found car to shift extremely hard, violently, even "chirping" the tires between 1st and 2nd gears under normal acceleration with other traffic.Took a test drive with Erik, of the shop, who told me to "trust him" that such shifting "is how all of these cars shift." This car is a Mercedes Benz 450SL, which is hardly a race car, but more of a luxury convertible. I have owned the car 15-years and neither it, nor any car I have driven shifted so violently. Told German Auto I was not satisified with the shifting. They say they attempted numerous times to repair shifting, but repair not able to be completed because engine had an alleged vacuum leak. On one hand I was told shifting so hard between gears was normal, and on the other I was told it wasn't shifting right because of an alleged vacuum leak. I was told transmission mount needed to be replaced, even though it was only weeks old, and in excellent, unworn condition. I ended up repairing the shifting problem myself. It's been shfting smoothly and properly ever since. Was charged $250.00 to repair shifting, which wasn't repaired after all. Since one employee told me hard shifting was "normal" and others said shifting "couldn't be adjusted" I am led to believe that someone was trying to deceive or mislead me into thinking my car chirping its tires between gears was "normal" and that I would simply accept the car the way it was returned to me. There was a time and place the customer was always right; it's not that way at German Auto. Filed complaint with BBB. Someone with absolutely no mechanical knowledge might find this shop useful, but anyone with mechanical background will know that German Auto has problems. read more
