I love the food, but the waitress is the most rude person on earth. I told her French toast was burnt, and she made an insinuation that it was my fault at me like I was cooking. And this is not the first time she's been rude to me. I've seen her be rude to other people too so stay away during the weekday. her name is Kris. First time I went there I thought it was good, corned beef hash was fresh, my only complaint was there was an 18% automatic gratuity.ok I've been in the food service industry my whole life,it's usually performance based. So with that being said I brought some friends there today.corned beef hash was absolutely crap,over cooked and mixed with canned crap,I ordered a mushroom and cheese omelet with corned beef hash,the omelet it self was good only the mushrooms were tough and canned.ok no problem ,I didn't finish what I had, took the rest to go. So I got the bill not reading the bill other than the amount, assuming there was an automatic 18% gratuity. I was wrong. I signed the bill and left only to be chased down outside the restaurant by our server ,( you guys didn't leave a tip?) I promptly apologized and went back and gave a 10 dollar tip for a 62 dollar bill. Bottom line i will never go back or recommend anybody to go there. This place should be closed down. The food took far too long to come out and it was terrible. The home fries and hash were undercooked. The pancakes and waffle were overcooked. Credit to the waitress who was friendly enough but she was trying to cover the entire restaurant by herself. It was busy and all of the other patrons were clearly annoyed either waiting to order, waiting to eat or waiting to pay. I really want to give this place a great review as it is a local place that has been here in Coventry, Rhode Island for many years. I have been here now a number of times and after this last experience am done. If you are looking for quick and inexpensive breakfast basics that are minimal in flavor, this place will satisfy your need for sustenance. I would however only stick to breakfast items and not go for anything that has any kind of shelf life. I have come to this place for both lunch and breakfast many times over the years and find that the quality, while never stellar has become sub-par. I ordered a turkey club for lunch and the turkey was actually so bad that you could smell it rotting from the moment it was put down in front of me. The waitress was very apologetic and offered to get me something else, but the smell was so off-putting that I really couldn't eat. I finished my iced coffee (which is very good there) and just left. Sadly this is not the first time that the food has not been good, but this truly was the worst time. read more

I'd like to find a positive about my experience, but there are not any. Upon arrival for breakfast, the waitress asked if someone was joining me or if I was alone. I replied that it was only me, and she said, "That's alright". Um, okay... She brought my coffee in a mug with ads for local businesses printed on it. The mugs were so old that most of the printing had worn off and were illegible. To top it off, the rim of the mug was completely chipped. I didn't ask for another mug because I assumed they were all like that. I was the only person in the restaurant, so I would think that if there were other options, I would have been given a better mug. Swayed by the specials menu, I ordered the stuffed French toast with peaches. The waitress came to take my order and sat at my table with me. When the food came, I was a bit surprised to discover the peaches were canned, but not a big deal. The cook must've dumped the peaches on top of the French toast directly from the can, because on the plate there was a big puddle of the heavy syrup the peaches were canned in. Another customer arrived shortly before I left, and he said he had someone who would be joining him. The waitress kept peeking out the front window, and asked the gentleman if he was waiting for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. The poor guy sounded a bit offended and responded that he was waiting for neither. The flustered waitress said she meant to ask if it was a friend who was a boy or a girl. He asked her why she was asking him that and she said she saw a boy in the parking lot and wondered if it was the person he was waiting for. These were two men in their 70's - hardly boys! Maybe if the service were decent, I'd be willing to return to try something else on the menu, but I won't be back. There are too many better restaurants to give my business to. read more

My experience was disappointing - trust the reviews. Home fries were cut inconsistently, making many of them undercooked or burnt to a crisp. Overall, the food lacked seasoning. They DID offer fresh coffee many times (this in itself earns its own star as many places do not.) We found the pricing out of line, given the quality, and will likely not be back. read more

My parents and I had been Coventry residents for 44 years until recently moving to Exeter last year. My mother frequents this establishment much more than my father and I but after this last visit none of us will be back. Not only are the prices ridiculous for a local restaurant but the food has just gotten worse over the years. This isn't even the reason why we wouldn't be back though, my father asked the waitress, who I believe to be the owner if he could substitute chowder for two clam cakes with his fish and chip and apparently this couldn't be done so he had to order a separate order for clam cakes, and to boot they don't even make their fries , you can tell they're the frozen ones. This place was pretty decent when the missing teeth blonde haired girl was there. Now it just plain out sucks, the little short lady has no one to argue with and the cooks must have been replaced because the food was the worst part! Potatoes were half done and of the wrong variety and cut to big. The bacon had a weird taste like it was the cheapest available and must have been cooked the day prior to get that nasty of a flavor. If you're in the mood for something akin to a Home-cooked meal, there are few places that come to mind, this one being he best. This has been the second time I've been to this place, the food was ok the portions were too small, it was me and my guy friend that went for lunch earlier, it gets better, he ended up with small portions of food as well plus 2 sodas came to $20.00 what a rip off, the waitress was a bit stuck up as well like she couldn't be bothered to serve us she had one of those I don't care attitude. We could of gone to Middle of Nowhere dinner and get larger portions for the same price. I've noticed there was nobody there accept for me and my guy friend and two other people. Home cooked goodness in a semi sterile enviornment. The old GF terrified me, it was so run down and grimy. The new location is right down the street and has an updated interior and a more open plan, though they did keep a breakfast bar, which to me is the quintessential sign of a real greasy spoon/ breakfast joint. I usually order your typical 2 egg, toast, homefries & meat breakfast here. Pleasantly surprised We would absolutely come back here again. My husband and I have driven past here many times and always said, "we need to go there one day". Today was the day. When we walked in, immediately our expectations went down. Place needs some serious TLC, seats are ripped, decor is hurting, and it just looked a little forgotten about. The upside to that...we didn't feel under dressed when we walked in in our shorts, t-shirts and flip flops. The staff was very friendly (yay, a plus) and the menu had all the classics. We ordered the calamari with garlic butter and hot peppers. It was fresh and tasty! We also ordered a turkey club with sweet potato fries. It was proportioned nicely and didn't fall apart when you took a bite and the sweet potato fries didn't seem like they came from a frozen bag (woo!). And we ordered an eggplant parm sub with chips. The staff is nice and he prices are fair. However every time I eat here there is some sort of disappointment. The last time my girlfriend and I went for lunch and the mozzarella sticks we ordered were mostly hollow. They had been over cooked and all the cheese had exploded out and into the deep fryer. Our server was very polite and brought out a 2nd order without hesitation or attitude. About 1/4 of the 2nd (free) order had the same problem. Other than that my steak sandwich was great. Our most recent visit was for breakfast and our food came out cold in the center. This was fixed and the rest of the meal was great. Probably not going to return again. Overall I have been to this restaurant 3-4 times and end up with some small disappointment every time. However the prices are fair and the staff is very personable. read more

If I could give zero stars I would !!! Went out for breakfast for my husbands birthday with friends this morning. Well all of our friends go their breakfast but my husband and I did not. Our waitress came over when our friends were half way done and said it should be right out. About 10 minutes later I went to the counter and explained it was my husbands birthday and was wondering why we hadn't received our food. She asked who and I said the guy who hasn't gotten his food yet. Once our friends finished I went up and let her know we were all set and didn't want the food any longer since we still hadn't gotten it. We were there for just about a hour. Her response was yeah I know sorry. Last she came over and said I didn't charge you for the drinks or your food and our response was um yeah of course not we never got our food!! Here is the thing... The rest of the restaurant was fed while we were waiting. Every single person!! I've been in food service and I understand things happen but when you mess up that bad either the waitress or the cooks ignoring the customer is not the right response. Maybe bring over a bagel or muffin and say sorry for your wait here is something for you to pick on. Or bring coffee over in a more timely manner and apologize for the wait. So my husband and I went to Dunkin Donuts to have his birthday breakfast and I will never go there again. read more

This is one of several "gentlemen farmer" restaurants across the state. We have been to several, but visit the Coventry location the most because it is close to home. I have never had a bad experience at the GF. The service is always pleasant and fast. The food is always good-Has a home cooked feeling. Only less than positive comment is that the "new" Coventry location (probably 2+ years old at this point) does not feel as cozy as their previous location here. The open dining area feels a bit sterile, but certainly not bothersome enough to lessen our visits. Particularly like this place for Sunday breakfasts, but lunch is great too. read more
