    Chicken strips dinner
    Sean R.

First time here, and last. Ordered chicken strips to takeout. What the heck am I supposed to do with these? It's a shame that the cook would even through these in the box, knowing they overcooked them to hell...I question their integrity! Was supposed to be dinner for my son. Had to throw this away and head back out to Gregg's for a chicken strips dinner. What a waste of my time and money, Black Oak! Wait staff was nice and attentive - have nothing but nice things to say about them. Just a crappy food experience.

Nice large off street parking lot. Cute inside. Appear to have outside seasonal seating. Drinks were amazing, everyone agreed and they even offered beer flights! Food was great too! Everything was delicious. They were out of nearly every dessert. They were out of rolls BUT made us some probably better than rolls garlic bread as all we really wanted were carbs - so cheers to the kitchen there! Waitress was new but attentive! Food definitely felt overpriced, so wouldn't be back often - but would never say no!

The food at Black Oak is consistently excellent. The ambience is appropriate to a pub- dark, intimate and cozy. The service is typically excellent - my partner and I usually sit at the bar and have Marissa take care of us. We try to visit at least once a week unless life gets too hectic.

Mehhhhh... that's how I would describe our visit to Black Oak on a Sunday afternoon. We were there around 1ish and were disappointed the menu was half brunch items with very limited lunch options. I got a salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was dry and they charge for dressing on the side which is odd. My husband got an omelet which he said was very good, huge portion and good flavors. None of us like the home fries which were over cooked and not seasoned. What bumped this down from 3 to 2 stars were the 2 orders of inedible chicken fingers and fries my kids took one bite of each and gagged. We thought they were overreacting until we tried the chicken. Yuck! They were like freezer burnt rubber chicken strips. The service was pretty good, attentive server, all business but we got what we asked for. Underwhelming experience and not likely to return for food.

Fried Chicken bowl was delicious. Think KFC's version but with high quality and tastier ingredients! Mac and cheese was also amazing. Delicious and creamy. Drinks were pretty good as well. Sat at the bar. Bartenders were very pleasant and constantly checked in on us if we needed anything. Free parking in parking lot that is shared.

First time customer. Fish and chips. Great fries! Fish tasted old and soggy. Breading wasn't bad. Too bad I had high hopes.

We came in and sat at the bar and no one said anything to us about going to the counter to order. The two girls working didn't have the common sense or social skills to say "hi, oh go ahead and place your order at the counter" they just watched us sit here for a good ten minutes. So we order, spend $30 on drinks and food. We go sit down and my friend asks for a cup of water and the girl comes over and says "that'll be $.80" Uhhh okay? So my friend gets out her card and pays for the water. Like I said. Everytime I have been back the people get less friendly and weirder. I don't think I'll be back. Longshore for life.

Breakfast sandwich was good but the bagel was a more doughy texture than I prefer. The sandwich though had double egg and cheese, so very hearty. Coffee was good but would request less ice in the future (my cup was probably 3/4 ice so had to nurse it if I didn't want to drink all the coffee after a few sips).

We stopped in on a very busy Friday night but were pleasantly surprised to be seated quickly in the bar area, which is my preferred spot anyway. The manager who greeted and seated us was genuinely friendly, setting the tone for a great evening. Our servers were equally wonderful and took the time to answer all of my questions about the gluten-free menu. I was especially excited to learn they have a dedicated gluten-free fryer, which is always a huge plus for those with food sensitivities. We started with a couple of summer spritz cocktails. They were light, refreshing, and perfect for a warm evening. I ordered their take on a Hugo Spritz and really enjoyed it. My boyfriend chose the Limoncello Spritz. It wasn't quite my style, but it was still well made and delicious. For dinner, we both ordered the steak tips with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The steak tips were cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were incredibly flavorful, and everything on the plate was delicious. It was one of those meals where you're tempted to lick the plate clean. Between the friendly service, gluten-free accommodations, and excellent food, this was an easy five-star experience. They really should tell you on the menu that the crab cake Benedict only comes with ONE (1) crab cake and poached egg. Sure, it's prettied up with some nice hollandaise sauce and a few micro-greens, but for $20 we all expected just a BIT more food. It didn't even have an English muffin, and the side of sautéed potatoes was less than a half cup - a toddler-sized serving. My son in law (who is a bodybuilder) daughter and I all ordered this, and were underwhelmed at the micro-serving. Ordered a side of toast (an extra $5) to try and fill us up. The traditional eggs Benedict ($18) at least came with 2, so a somewhat more normal-sized entree, although still small compared to most breakfast places. The waiter was very nice and the food was tasty; but so under-sized and over-priced I cannot leave more than 2 stars. We will not be back.
