Tried this place for brunch on a Sunday with my friend and her children. I was surprised to see only a handful of people upon the restaurant opening. We were seated right away and had excellent service. The restaurant itself is large with interesting decor and pictures on the wall. Our food came out fast due to the amount of people there. We're not from the area, but we stopped into Black Oak Kitchen in Coventry for lunch -- and we're so glad we did. Everything was on point. I had the margherita pizza -- light, crispy crust and fresh, flavorful toppings. Ralph went with the ribeye sandwich, which was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. We also shared the parmesan wings, and let me tell you... crispy, cheesy perfection. The service was just as good as the food -- super friendly and welcoming, even though we were just passing through. Black Oak is a gem -- if you're in the area (or even just driving by), it's absolutely worth the stop. read more

First time here, and last. Ordered chicken strips to takeout. What the heck am I supposed to do with these? It's a shame that the cook would even through these in the box, knowing they overcooked them to hell...I question their integrity! Was supposed to be dinner for my son. Had to throw this away and head back out to Gregg's for a chicken strips dinner. What a waste of my time and money, Black Oak! We came here Friday night to celebrate my friend's 60th birthday. There was an acoustic guitarist playing which the right vibe. Everything we ordered was fine. I was a little bit leery of the food having read the previous reviews. But in hindsight, it was pretty good and the waitress was very pleasant. Nice large off street parking lot. Cute inside. Appear to have outside seasonal seating. Drinks were amazing, everyone agreed and they even offered beer flights! Food was great too! Everything was delicious. They were out of nearly every dessert. They were out of rolls BUT made us some probably better than rolls garlic bread as all we really wanted were carbs - so cheers to the kitchen there! Waitress was new but attentive! Mehhhhh... that's how I would describe our visit to Black Oak on a Sunday afternoon. We were there around 1ish and were disappointed the menu was half brunch items with very limited lunch options. I got a salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was dry and they charge for dressing on the side which is odd. My husband got an omelet which he said was very good, huge portion and good flavors. None of us like the home fries which were over cooked and not seasoned. What bumped this down from 3 to 2 stars were the 2 orders of inedible chicken fingers and fries my kids took one bite of each and gagged. We thought they were overreacting until we tried the chicken. Yuck! They were like freezer burnt rubber chicken strips. The service was pretty good, attentive server, all business but we got what we asked for. Underwhelming experience and not likely to return for food. read more

Fried Chicken bowl was delicious. Think KFC's version but with high quality and tastier ingredients! Mac and cheese was also amazing. Delicious and creamy. Drinks were pretty good as well. We got take out from here tonight for New Year's Eve. I had been here originally when the restaurant first opened and I thought that the menu was a little too cute and esoteric for the neighborhood. What I really wanted was them to not have to put so many spins on typical dishes. I haven't been back since then. However, this was a great experience. The phone was answered quickly and in a very professional and friendly manner. Our order was taken and we were told that the food would be ready in about 20 minutes. I got there in about 17 minutes and the food was already waiting at the hostess stand. It came in a nice brown handle bag. The packaging is a little bit odd inside. The food came in a folding cardboard box, I assume this is not only more environmentally friendly, but also easier to get packaging during a shortage of the styrofoam takeout boxes. This type of packaging requires that you transfer all of your food to a plate, and because of the design of the box and the huge portions of meat in sauces and dressings on top of other items, this was a bit of a messy experience. That being said, the food was fantastic. It was still hot when I got home. My chicken parm had three large breasts of chicken and rigatoni underneath. The chicken was prepared perfectly, juicy, and delicious. The pasta had a little bit of a smoked herb flavor that I couldn't pin down. It was unique if not a little bit odd but still tasty. There was also a nice, long, thick slice of grilled focaccia bread included that really set things off nicely. The harvest pork came with several pork chops potato, apple, onion, butternut squash, a mushroom demi-glaze and dressed greens. I'm told that it was fantastic and delicious as well. The entrees were about $19 a piece. Not at all out of line for a high quality dinner in this area, particularly with such large portions of proteins. This isn't fast food, it's delicious, well prepared food. This meal completely changed my opinion of the restaurant. It made me want to write this review. We'll be back. Often. read more

Stopped in to try out this fairly new restaurant for lunch and parked at the bar. There was a few occupied tables as well as a few patrons at the bar. Nice layout, but they jammed too many seats at the bar to the point where you have to fight the chairs in order to get in between to sit or to get off the bar stool. The nachos with added chicken was really good and I followed up with the rigatoni bolognese which was decent but I wish the pasta wasn't so over cooked. Looks like they do offer daily blackboard specials. They will do well at this location, definitely a much needed option in town. Wish them much success. read more

Went here to get dinner after getting a Christmas tree, we went here last year after getting a Christmas tree and the food was amazing. However we went in with two small children one including an infant and was told " We would have to wait 25 minutes because there was NO LOW TOP TABLE" not because the restraunt was full but they coudlent accommodate us, there was only high tops. So your telling me in the whole restraunt which was not full there wasn't any additional low tops? Highly disappointed poor business choice on the hostesses. read more

This place is a gem in Coventry. Felt like driving all the way (lol) from Warwick to here on New Year's Day morning to try their brunch menu. Ordered the Breakfast Pizza and the Pork Belly Scramble (under the specials menu). As I really like aioli, I enjoyed this pizza; it was good. It would have been better if there were less of the home fries on it and more of the protein. Pork belly was yummy. Could use a bit more serving vs. the home fries that surrounded it. Speaking of home fries, this place makes it toasty so that is an A for me. Coffee refills were generous. The place was busy. Seating is ample and there are big screens all around. Like I said, it's a hip place for the area. Almost like an oasis in the middle of the desert. It is worth the drive for me. Definitely a place you can come back to and not be disappointed. read more

Fries' texture and taste led me to believe the were cooked hours earlier. Disappointing when a chef doesn't take pride in their product. Also too bad because this area could use a good go to place. I'm not from the area, was only visiting my wife's family during thanksgiving. Came on the day after (Black Friday). Very nice decor. The curb appeal is what brought me in. I was a bit nervous in what I could and couldn't eat here since I'm vegetarian. Let's start by saying the whole staff is super friendly. I ordered the cauliflower wings and wow was I impressed. Perfectly crisp and just the right amount of bleu cheese. The fries were also on point. My brother in law got a special which was the French sup sandwich. He left nothing behind. The beer tap list was on point. Had the finback which I was surprised they had. We did notice some party pooper pig who came in to complain about something. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. We got takeout tonight having never been there before. Pizza, buffalo tenders, and nachos. Everything was amazing, even after sitting in a car for 10 minutes or so to be delivered. The nachos were the best I've ever had. My husband and I split food, which we never do, and we both loved everything. Generous porto of nachos were tasty, with plenty of toppings and crispy chips. The pizza was larger than expected, with a thin, slightly crispy crust, and covered with excellent mozzarella and fresh tasting tomato sauce. The tenders were crisp, perfectly sauced, and not overly breaded. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant, but I can't wait to eat in because I imagine the food is even better when it's straight out of the oven! read more

My wife and I went for dinner at Black Oak after flying in to spend a week in RI. Very happy with the choice. Large space, comfortable seating choices and a varied menu. Nice draft brews, wines too. Friendly and capable service. Wife really liked the garlic buttered shrimp on rigatoni with avocado toast. I enjoyed a generous fresh fried Atlantic cod and fries. Clean, pleasant atmosphere. Went to dinner here at 8:00pm Friday night with my wife, about a 30 minute wait. Live Musician playing guitar indoors. Food was great, I had fish and chips, wife had fish tacos both were good, I would put the fish tacos well above the fish and chips so if your looking for fish, Go tacos.
