Visiting Gentle Monster was definitely a unique eyewear experience. I'm not very familiar with the brand's history or story, but their designs are incredibly distinctive and at times feel very futuristic. Some of the eyewear felt a bit uncomfortable and seemed designed more to create a visual "wow" factor rather than focusing on everyday functionality or comfort. Y2K style sunglasses and glasses, they are designed for low-bridge/Asian faces and are a good option though they are pricey and some of their styles are very bold. There are only 7 locations in the US and the only locations I've ever visited was their Seoul Myeong-dong store. I guess they are known for their funky art displays that seem to be unique in every store. The Seoul one had giant robot faces, this one has 2 donkeys in the front and a half robot old lady in the back that terrified me when I realized she wasn't a real person. The sales associate was amazing and told us a lot of the history and also recommended some funky and more standard frames. They have semancoses near every pair on display where you can get a direct link to it on their website. Some models are sold out and everything on the floor is for display only so they might not have everything being shown. They have an interesting sales model where everything is limited and produced just one time so if you see something you like it may be gone forever quickly. read more

This brand staffs asked me go to Costco, Jins or other 3rd party vision store to have lenses done. Or I could have prescription lense with the style glasses purchase together online. -Online: it's not possible to add prescriptions and general items together in the shopping bag. I couldn't do checkout. -Costco: Staffs here said can not do prescription because gentle monk glasses doesn't have size series number on frame. -Jins: Staffs here said they can not pop out original lenses from this frame. One screw fell off and I asked if it can be fixed, but was told that only solution is to ship back the whole pair to get the missing screw installed, which takes about 3 weeks and cost if I cannot find a warranty card. Super chic glasses store in valley fair mall! Went here on a Tuesday afternoon around 3 pm so it wasn't packed whatsoever. My friend and I were able to try on glasses without any care in the world. You can't have food or drinks inside the store, so they'll ask you to store your items in a secure mirror closet. It was fun to try on the trendy glasses; it gives futuristic vibes. Finally made it to this store and worth the wait. I went to the boutique many years ago in Korea and got some of my favorite pairs of sunglasses from them. Sadly they were stolen a few months ago from my house but was excited to see that they have a boutique an hour away from me. I drove there yesterday with a sugar rushed two year old (not the best idea) and it was worth the hour in traffic. The store is very chic and clean and all staff members were very courteous and tolerant of my toddler. I even found several pairs of sunglasses I absolutely love. China was very helpful and I liked that she gave me her honest opinion. I ended up buying a pair as the other pair I loved were sold out but hopefully will get replenished soon. I will def come back to get another few pairs. Also, shoutout to the guy who worked the line yesterday 03/25/23 around 5pm. Such a cool store to go into with the donkeys at the entrance. The store itself is pretty big and spacious unlike typical glasses places where it's packed with glasses and people. I liked that the sales people were not in my face and allowed me to browse at my leisure but were nice and friendly when I had questions. Yes, the art on the walls, videos and immersive exhibitions are a wonderful plus for this mall. So much space is reserved for these art pieces that don't have any explanation. It is a mystery why they are there and what they mean. I found the stately grandmother especially engrossing. She is simply dosing on a chair and moving very slowly. Extremely realistic and entirely unexpected in a store selling eye glasses. So why do it? I believe the answer is because we'll talk about it on social media platforms and will rent his store above all others. Fascinating advertising and art concept where the two mingle for a bit. I've passed this store several times and never stopped to go in. I walked in and a young man went over the "rules" and asked that we sanitize before entering and that we flip over any glasses after we tried them on. I asked him to explain the concept of the store and he did a good job of that. Every location is an immersive unique experience. There's all types of different eyewear on display. They are able to add prescription to frames and take about 2 weeks turnaround since they send it to a shop in Anaheim. I didn't try any on but found some unique pieces. Several employees checked in on us. They definitely prioritize customers who are going to purchase. Their experience was more hands on. The installations at this store are interesting. Donkeys, old lady, and what looks like brooms (IDK). When I'm on the market for a new pair of glasses I will definitely consider returning. read more

Yay, a Gentle Monster in our neighborhood! It's difficult to find sunglasses that fit Asian faces, especially with the nose bridge, so I am super grateful that this Korean sunglass store has made its way here. I understand people's frustrations with the appointment only set up, but I personally appreciate the 30 minute window you have with the worker and the Covid protocols of wearing gloves and having every pair you try on sanitized right after. It might be nice to have a sign that it is appointment only and direct people to the site to schedule? Do note it takes about a week or two until an appointment is available. The store is super spacious, easy to socially distance at this time, and a couple funky robots. I forgot the employee's name but she was super helpful and so kind to clean the dozens of sunglasses we tried on. The sunglasses are a little too big in lens for my comfort but found a pair that I like that I'm waitlisted for. Majority of the sunglasses are about $249 and really affordable! read more

Contrary to what others are saying, I came here twice without an appointment. The staff are helpful, however they don't seem know much about the product itself so minus one star for that. As far as the sunglasses itself, they have high quality optics comparable to other high end sunglasses. I have been patiently waiting for this Gentle Monster location to open up in Valley Fair (first one in the Bay Area) so I could get my 'Dreamer 17' sunglasses adjusted. They are by appointment only, as many stores are nowadays, but because I was just doing an adjustment, they were able to do it then and there. I really appreciated it and it was very quick. I am so glad that I can continue wearing my absolute favorite sunglasses without worrying about them slipping anymore! They are a South Korean sunglass brand, so y'know just me channeling my inner Yoon Se-ri from Crash Landing on You with my shades. My friend was drinking a bottled water far from the shelves because today is extremely hot, and he told my friend to not drink water in their shop, he also told his stuff in-front of us that if we drink bottled water again in their shop, they will ask us to leave. Also, my friend tried a pair of glasses and accidentally put back to the wrong spot, he came and asked my friend to put it back to the right spot. WHEN: Saturday around 5:30pm It's located inside Fairvalley Westfield mall in San Jose. Gentle monster is a high end Korean brand sunglasses/glasses store. The store has futuristic figures and decorations, the deer going through a time warp machine and an elderly woman with wires hanging out of her body. Its ART. Gentle monster does limit the amount of ppl in the store. There was a shorter line when we went, the staff asks that you use hand sanitizer before going into the store. Face masks aren't enforced. We wore it anyways. When trying on glasses, you have to flip the glasses around with it open to place it back on the display. The staff will go around wiping the used glasses with disinfect wipes. It was a very clean and sanitary store, I felt comfortable shopping there. read more

The young people working here were very sweet and good natured. The glasses mostly looked nicely stylish with only a few odd styles. The prices were high for a pair of glasses, but not much worse than the higher end range in a normal optical store. But when I asked, they did not even know what are progressive lenses. Uh, really? So, you cannot but multi focal lenses here at all. They say they do single vision corrections within a certain range. But, in no sense is this a full service optical store. The art installations were sort of impressive, if not very intelligible. , the one with the elderly lady was so creepy the employees turned it off. Worst experience ever. Bought from the official online store and when I brought it in to this branch, the employees told me I had a fake pair of sunglasses. I felt so sad about having purchased from the official store after that encounter where trained store employees said I had a fake pair and therefore couldn't take it in for repair. I contacted the online store, and sent my sunglasses to them. They claimed my sunglasses are authentic, despite what the San Jose branch said. They charged me $50 for the repair. At that point, I had lost confidence in the product and the company. Why would the store say it was a fake? I contacted the San Jose store and spoke to the manager Allen and he said he would look into what happened, such as why his team would say I had a fake pair. I wrote many emails to him and he NEVER responded. This was an opportunity for the company to learn and grow and they didn't take that opportunity and see how they can do better next time. It was such a disheartening experience that a) the San Jose store claimed my sunglasses were fake and were therefore unable to repair B) The online then said my sunglasses were real C) no explanation could be provided as to why the San Jose Store claimed my glasses were fake. D) despite multiple emails, the store manager Allen from San Jose never responded. read more

My cousin vouched for their glasses and said they were suitable for Asian faces since they're a South Korean brand. A+ for marketing and A+ for product quality? I'm in. STORE EXPERIENCE: We had to make an appointment on their website and the first weekend appointment was almost 2 weeks out. When we arrived, we had to wait for a bit, and on that particular day, there wasn't a specific area to queue, so it was pretty awkward. We had to just linger. Once you get in, they get your temperature, sanitize your hands, and give you a pair of gloves. They asked us to put all our things in a cabinet, maybe cus they were more scared we were gonna steal? The reason why I say this is cus the Asian guys in front of us had a shopping bag and were allowed to walk all over with it. This is my only negative. I actually think it's cool to make us put all our things away, but then that rule should be enforced non-discriminately or else I just feel bad :( at times I did feel like I was being watched like I was gonna steal one of the donkeys and hide it under my shirt. We were then introduced to Andy, who was HILARIOUS. He was so nice, and we felt so chill while shopping. I honestly expected the place to be super cold and stuck up, to the point where you just leave cus it's so awkward, but it was the opposite of that. Andy showed us their conceptual glasses, and then we were basically like kids in a candy shop running around. You can try on any glasses, and after you're done, just flip them around so that they can come around and sanitize. The sanitizing process is pretty neat. It gets washed and dried. I tried on like a bajillion black glasses and ended up with one of the first ones he showed me - Rick 01. My fiancé got a piece from the x Diplo collection, then he gets home and goes "who's diplo?" I DIED LAUGHING. PRICE$: Glasses range from 200-400ish. They also do prescription lenses, just bring a copy of your prescription. She told me that I must have a reservation to come in. My heart was crushed. I quickly to go online to see if it's possible to get in today... no appointments for the next few days. I completely understand during these Covid times that stores are setting policies to protect themselves and customers - I'm all for it ! But I'm sure there are many shoppers who randomly go to Valley Fair and unexpectedly see Gentle Monster and want to shop.
