Hanaka Roll omg so good!
Rebecca G.

So good!! They gave the freshest fish! Love the yellowtail, albacore, tuna, oysters, shrimp tempura hand rolls, veggie tempura!! The beer and sake too! Service is great too! Highly recommend!

I love sushi! I love Genmai Sushi. They have this Cilantro roll#2, and bomb! All their selections are good. The restaurant only had 1 server, and she was killing it by herself! Breyzie was her name. The restaurant has lots of tables and a bar area. The restrooms were clean.

Solid take out. Sauces on the side, not pictured.

Delicious. Easy to order, friendly staff. Take out was packed with care, sauces on the side. Lots of seating inside, will try dine in next time!

Multiple sushi rolls (cilantro#2c, Hanaka, nava, red dragon, etc)

Great sushi spot near Oxnard State Beach! They have the market cornered on sushi from all the beach goers. We came here after sun bathing and playing in the water. We were both tired and hungry and found this spot on Yelp. They had outdoor seating and were taking to go orders. We got the spicy tuna and spicy albacore, an eel roll, the Genmai roll which had brown rice, tuna, salmon and yellowtail and was wrapped in soy paper and a few others. It took maybe 15 minutes - there was maybe 3 people working. People came pretty consistently. Two teenagers ordered after me and asked for it to go to take to the beach. We got our food and since it was an hour drive home, we ate a few rolls at one of their outside tables. Very delicious and fresh! Would definitely come back next time we're at the Oxnard Beach!

Really attentive sushi chefs that make my custom orders without a question. Staff are on the spot and arrive quickly and then step back out of your space. Very busy at lunch and even full most evenings to where you have to wait. All good signs for a restaurant.

Con: -unfortunately have to start with this. We found a METAL SHAVING in our yakisoba. It was pretty rigid and pretty big, as well. We ate quite a bit before we noticed it so nervous we could've possibly ate some smaller pieces. Thank god we noticed because I was serving myself onto my plate so I would've put it in my mouth if I didn't see it. -the soft shell crab was a pretty small crab/2-piece for the price and was very salty. Pro: -the sushi tostada was more portion than we expected it to be and pretty good. Fully loaded as well and a good flavor of fish and avocado with sauce. -the sushi pieces were pretty fresh tasting but wish they were alittle bigger. Despite the overall experience, we don't feel comfortable coming back knowing that this could occur or maybe stay away from anything that is made on the grill, stovetop.

There's also paid metered parking right in front of the restaurant as well. I've celebrated plenty of birthdays here. And of course, met my girls here for, you guessed it, happy hour. I love me a good happy hour. They have a solid happy hour menu which I don't have a problem coming back for. I order my usuals from the regular menu & can't get enough of the chicken wings & sushi. The Sun kissed Roll & the Alaskan Roll are some of my favorites. It's pretty chill here. Service has been a hit or miss. On my last visit, it took a while to get seated. But, the servers made up for it, by checking on us & making sure that we were able to get all our orders in. Thank you to Heidi & the young gentleman, keep it up!

My friends ordered off of the Happy Hour menu and were pleased with the Miso Salmon & Tempura. I ordered off both menus. I ordered the Ika Karrage Twice: both times it was burnt, one would think that after sending it back the first time because it was dark brown & black, that the 2nd time they'd have gotten it right, but they didn't care, nor did our server. I ordered an oyster shooter (better to order two for the price is $2 more) and it didn't arrive until the end of our meal & only after I asked, worse, it may have been a whole oyster, but it was shredded and in 3-4 pieces. The pork belly was excellent, but my drink, didn't arrive until over 1/2 way into our meal... What is wrong with these young people? Seriously if you can't do it correctly, maybe this isn't the job for you. My February rating gave kabuki 5 stars, this time it all fell apart. I'll think twice about coming here again, because from this experience the problem was with the staff.

5/5 -- A Hidden Treasure in Oxnard!…read more If you're hunting for a true comfort-food haven this winter, Ozeki Noodle is the little gem you'll want to keep all to yourself... but it's way too good not to share. The ambience is calm, clean, and quietly inviting--like Oxnard's own little pocket of Japan. The service? Warm, attentive, and wonderfully efficient. You know what truly makes this place? The authentic food. Every dish feels crafted with care. I love being able to sit down with a steaming cup of hot green tea, the most delicious tempura, a spicy tuna hand roll that never misses, and a bright, refreshing seaweed salad--without having to wait forever for seating or service. If you're starving, this is where you want to land for fast, delicious comfort. And the star of the show: the chicken bowl. I promise you will not find a chicken bowl this good anywhere else. Tender, flavorful, and so satisfying it deserves its own fan club. The tempura? Feathery, crisp perfection--easily the best in Ventura County. No exaggeration needed. Their miso is a warm winter hug, and the combo with the chicken bowl + rice + a large bowl of udon is the definition of cozy luxury. The broth is rich, the noodles are plush and filling, and you'll leave full with leftovers to smile at later. If you want authentic Japanese comfort, fast service, and food that feels like it was made just for you, Ozeki Noodle is your new cold-weather sanctuary.

Everything we tried was good and fresh. The place is not fancy at all. The service was excellent despite the fact that it was pretty busy and one server (Ariana?) handled everything including a stream of Door Hub/Grub dash orders. She was hopping! She warned us that the food could take awhile but it wasn't too long until we were eating. You can't beat cold beer and steaming noodles on a blustery New Year's Eve. We will be back.

I ordered the chashu ramen which did have a generous serving of 5 pieces of pork. But omg they were so TOUGH. It felt like I was chewing forever. I think leaving the pork in the broth longer made them less tough but wow, that was a jaw workout. I was surprised that the ramen didn't come with the usual beansprouts and bamboo shoots but each place is different. I was a little annoyed to pay $2 to add them on additionally but I understand that some people may not like those things in ramen so it is an overall good idea to charge separately. Okay service. My friend and I didn't order any drinks, just had water. But it was a hassle to get a refill. I had asked twice and made multiple attempts to move my empty cup to a more strategic location to signal for water. But eventually my friend just got up and asked for me. I'm all for a fun workplace environment as long as it isnt distracting from actual work responsibilities.

Absolute gem in Ventura! Food was absolutely the best I've had ever had!…read more Bring everyone you know!

~ SMALL SPACE, BIG FLAVOR, A HIDDEN GEM ~…read more Gotetsu is one of those blink and you'll miss it spots, but once you're inside, you know you've found something sooo special!! Cozy, intimate, and very much a hole in the wall izakaya, this place is all about authentic Japanese flavors and perfectly grilled skewers. There is NO sushi here (they make that very clear), just kushiyaki, small plates, and goooood vibes. I've never been to Japan (yet), but I would imagine this is what it would be like walking into a small mom and pop shop there. The open kitchen is tiny but fun to watch, and from pretty much any seat you can see your food being made. It's a GREAT date night spot, order a bunch of dishes and share everything so much fun. We came for dinner and with a rotating menu of skewers and specials we were satisfied and it kept things interesting! Lunch is more limited, with preset options, but the quality still hits. The donburi is solid, the chicken curry is comforting (could use a little more protein), and the skewers, especially pork belly, chicken & onion, and meatballs, are seasoned and grilled really well. Veggie skewers like zucchini and brussels sprouts are simple but still tasty. At dinner, my husband and I loved the spicy garlic edamame, chicken thigh with yuzu pepper, ribeye skewer, gyoza, and the yaki onigiri (grilled rice ball with a crispy outside). Pro move: dip the onigiri into the leftover spicy edamame sauce. Trust. Ordering is easy with scan-and-pay, the owner is hands-on, and you can feel the care put into every dish. Take it easy with the ordering (they are typically skewer by skewer because you can easily rack up a hefty bill!) If you're looking for an authentic Japanese izakaya experience in Ventura, focused on flavor, not trends, Gotetsu absolutely delivers.
