Kabuki is one of my favorite happy hour places at The Collection. Plenty of free parking pretty much anywhere here & is walking distance. There's also paid metered parking right in front of the restaurant as well. I've celebrated plenty of birthdays here. And of course, met my girls here for, you guessed it, happy hour. I love me a good happy hour. They have a solid happy hour menu which I don't have a problem coming back for. I order my usuals from the regular menu & can't get enough of the chicken wings & sushi. The Sun kissed Roll & the Alaskan Roll are some of my favorites. It's pretty chill here. Service has been a hit or miss. On my last visit, it took a while to get seated. This was not my first visit: I went with friends last Thursday 04.30.26, we arrived a bit after 4:00. It wasn't crowded, but the service was slow. My friends ordered off of the Happy Hour menu and were pleased with the Miso Salmon & Tempura. I ordered off both menus. I ordered the Ika Karrage Twice: both times it was burnt, one would think that after sending it back the first time because it was dark brown & black, that the 2nd time they'd have gotten it right, but they didn't care, nor did our server. I ordered an oyster shooter (better to order two for the price is $2 more) and it didn't arrive until the end of our meal & only after I asked, worse, it may have been a whole oyster, but it was shredded and in 3-4 pieces. The pork belly was excellent, but my drink, didn't arrive until over 1/2 way into our meal... What is wrong with these young people? Seriously if you can't do it correctly, maybe this isn't the job for you. My February rating gave kabuki 5 stars, this time it all fell apart. Dropped into Kabuki at The Collection in Ventura for a quick bite and lucked into happy hour -- got seated right away on a Saturday evening,. Ordered mostly rolls and a few appetizers. Honestly? Solid, reliable mid-tier mall sushi in a good way. Nothing mind-blowing or destination-worthy, but crispy where it should be crispy, fish was soft and fresh, not overly salty, and service was friendly and efficient. Shoutout to the rice being properly cooked -- sounds like a low bar, but a lot of places miss that, and it makes a difference. Mixed feelings on this place. I've been here 4 times and 2 times we had a bad experience. On the positive side, the entrees are delicious, the customer service is great, and everyone is very sweet. Some dishes are definitely better than others, but overall the food is solid and priced fairly compared to competitors. The reason for the lower rating is that on 2 separate occasions, not close together at all, my son got sick after eating sushi and on another visit my husband did as well. We didn't want to assume anything after the first time since we're big sushi fans, but after it happened again with my husband, we may need to take a break for now. That being said, I still encourage people to try it because the other experiences we've had were great. read more

This wasn't my first time here, but I wanted to give it a few more visits before writing a fair and detailed review. I stopped by on Saturday for lunch right before happy hour. I was craving something fresh, and Kabuki happened to catch my eye. One thing I do appreciate is how quickly they seat you. We were seated immediately upon walking in. However, the table we were given wasn't really to my liking, so I asked if it was possible to move to a booth. The host mentioned she couldn't move us because it would give the waiter an extra table, which I didn't fully understand. I didn't push the issue and stayed at the original table. I do have to say, our waiter--unfortunately I didn't catch his name--was extremely sweet and attentive. He gave great recommendations and patiently answered all of our questions, which I really appreciated. As for the food, it honestly wasn't great. If you're looking for something quick and convenient, this place might work, but if you're looking for quality food, I wouldn't recommend it. We started with the clams, which were decent but a bit bland. We also ordered the shishito peppers and ended up leaving the entire plate--they were simply not good and very disappointing. For our main course, we ordered the Lover's Table, which includes teriyaki chicken, steak, beef ribs, two gyozas, two pieces of sushi, two pieces of tempura shrimp, and fried vegetables, along with complimentary soup and salad. Out of everything, the soup and salad were honestly the best parts of the meal. The steak, in particular, was not good. One positive note is that they do have a sushi bar if you're really into sushi. The music is kept at a low volume, which makes it easy to have a conversation. Overall, this just isn't a place I'd come back to. read more

Came here on the Saturday night after Christmas and it was busy. It seemed like they didn't have enough servers. We waited 45 minutes for a table. Got a $10 mocktail from the bar to help pass the time. Unfortunately, the floors were sticky and the bathroom was kinda gross. I had some toilet paper stick to my shoe yet didn't realize it until I returned to my table. We had a wonderful server I could tell he was doing his best. It did take a while for our food to come out though. The food is good here although the wait times suck and the ambiance is lacking. 2 orders of the edamame and drinks kept us sane. I got a small salad with my soup and that was tasty. Once my Tonkotsu ramen arrived, I devoured that and felt quite satisfied. Once seated, service is decent. It's a very nice place I really love the mushroom miso soup it's really good and it's not like regular miso soup with the under whelming but it's like the best miso soup. I also really like the interior it's very nice. The servers there were also quite nice but I think they got a little weirded out when I chugged 3 glasses of water lol. read more

I like this Japanese restaurant. Besides great happy hour deals, the regular menu is also pretty decent. I love their creamy shrimp crab udon and my boyfriend liked the beef yakisoba, the only thing he said it is a bit too greasy. Service is always good here, never had any problems. Do NOT order the beef teriyaki. It was so tough I couldn't even chew it. Not tender at all. Very poor meat quality, a terrible cut of meat. I didn't even get to eat it. Just don't even bother, get the chicken teriyaki instead. I do however recommend the garlic asparagus salmon roll. It's very good, I get it every time. This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. - When we were seated, we were told there were no clean glasses. - We did finally get glasses/water, but over the course of the meal, we had to ask for water refills multiple times. Service was not attentive. We also had to ask for soy sauce dipping cups. - Food was also very slow. We ordered appetizers, and it was 20-30 minutes before the first appetizer arrived. It was another 10-15 for the second appetizer. - The food finally came out. It was mediocre and overpriced for what it is. The fish on the rainbow roll did not look fresh and was thinly sliced. - At one point we found a long hair on one of our glasses. Poor food. Poor service. Poor quality. Overpriced. read more

Great California rolls, I'm normally picky about sushi so I went with the California roll, tasted great wasn't too salty or too flavorless. The service was okay, they're kind of slow and the workers often forget things or requests. The place is nice and clean, I would recommend. read more

This spot was just okay to me Nothing was awful or inedible We got seated and the hostess and waitress were both very nice and our food came out quickly The "crispy" rice with spicy salmon was not crispy and even if it was thee bite way too large to just pop in your mouth, then when you did take the huge bite it was soggy rice. The steak we got on the plate was not tender but chewy, and the meats overall barely had any flavor including the chicken. My biggest upset was the white rice they give you on the side is not Asian long grain rice, it tastes like goya short grain Spanish rice. It wasn't sushi rice, which was weird and disappointing, we did not eat it. We came in during happy hour and were seated right away. Our drinks were served quickly, which we appreciated--but unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. We waited over an hour for our food, and during that time, we noticed several tables that were seated after us receiving their meals first. It really felt like our order had been forgotten. When we finally asked about the status, our food came out immediately, which kind of confirmed our suspicion. That said, the food itself was actually good once we got it. I went there yesterday with my family. I expressed that I have an orange allergy and would like to sit to the right of the restaurant far away from the bar. He would not sit us on that side. We ordered 2 appetizers before lunch ended. When we ordered lunch, our server said it was no longer available as it was 7 minutes past. Even though we had opened our ticket earlier. My daughter decided to join us, they told us they could not add a chair. Meanwhile a drink with a big orange slice was being brought to the table behind me. I had to cover my nose and mouth and move out of the area quickly. I told the guy who seated up, this is why I asked to be seated on the other side, away from people. Kabuki has always been one of my favorite sushi spots. I used to go to the one at the Howard Hughes Center in LA years ago and was so excited when I saw one pop up in the Collection. My boyfriend, best friend, and I went on Friday 11/14 and had a great experience- mainly because of our server Giselle (Jiselle?). She was the sweetest and so amazing! She was on point despite how busy it was and had the most pleasant, accommodating personality. If the GM ever reads this: You have an incredible server on your hands. I love Kabuki, and my boyfriend and I come here often. The service usually is good, but we had a bad experience today. We came to Kabuki to have Ginseng Tonkotsu ramen, one of our favorite menus. The waitress at the cashier told us we had to wait for about 15-20 minutes. My boyfriend asked her if we could have seats at the sushi bar (that's what we usually do, so we don't have to wait that much); she went to the sushi bar to check, came back, and said, "A few minutes wait to clean up." We thought that was okay. We had been waiting more than 5 minutes, and while waiting, some people put their names on the waitlist. Suddenly, another waitress approached the cashier and said, "Oh, they can't have the seats because all seats at the sushi bar are full." They didn't explain or apologize to us at all, and the first waitress asked us, "Do you want to be on the waitlist? " But some people had already signed up, and we didn't want to wait any longer, so we gave up. It was disheartening to be so close to enjoying our favorite dish and then have to give it up. We were so disappointed. We had to settle for Pho in the end, but we hope our feedback will lead to a resolution and a better experience in the future. read more

This place gets busy now. Usually there's a wait if you come on a Friday or Saturday night. The food and drinks are amazing though. There are some unique cocktails here. I recommend the TOKYO MOJITO since it tastes way better than a regular mojito in my opinion. I also like the Kawaii Sunset. The restaurant was busy due to graduations. I think the servers were doing the best they could but ours disappeared for a while at a time because he had so much to do. It's too bad servers can't share tables. The food was good but expensive, although I expect that for a sushi restaurant! My husband and I got a side of tempura and the sashimi omakase deluxe platter to share and we were still hungry afterwards. Maybe we should have gotten rolls or other items instead.
