Stick with the sushi if possible. Got the Nabe udon and it literally tasted like hot water with overcooked noodles and some condiments in there.

Love the Golf Pro Hand Roll. $9.95. I haven't found any other sushi bar that makes us made with soy paper tuna, crab, avocado, spicy mayo oh my goodness you're all set with a glass of wine. Just felt being rushed. I guess right before Christmas

Teriyaki Salmon with a nice salad and tempura.

A cute little restaurant with tables and a small sushi bar. The servers are very patient with our questions, as I'm gluten sensitive. They make wonderful recommendations. What we ordered: I got the Cucumber salad, spicy edamame and the Sushi/Sashimi Combo (6 pieces of each). My friends both ordered the Combos. One got Teriyaki beef, Mixed tempura with 3 shrimp and various veggies. It came with Miso soup and rice and sushi(4) and sashimi. My other friend ordered the Box A Combo. It included Salmon Teriyaki with Shrimp and veggie tempura, rice, salad , sushi and sashimi. All of our dishes had a lot of food and were fresh and delicious.

Pick two lunch.

Came in for lunch since I had jury duty down the street. Server was friendly. Ordered an lunch "pick two." I got tempura shrimp and chicken teriyaki. The chicken was meh, room temperature and too much sauce for my taste. The tempura was really well done in terms of the batter, frying, and flavor. However, the sauce was very bland and lacked any real flavor. It got really crowded by the time I left, so people probably love this place. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Amazing! We ordered various rolls, along with nigiri. The fish was very fresh and delicious. One of the best nigiri I've ever had for a very good price. The rolls has generous amounts of sashimi and were packed with flavor. The service was good. Employees were very kind, and got our order and food to us swiftly. Even on a very busy day, they were quick and made conversation. The interior was great, very clean, and nice design. With plenty of space for customers. Even with so many tables they were filled up quickly and a line formed. That just shows how good the food is.

I love sushi and I love this restaurant! The fish is always fresh, the sushi chefs are on point, and service is a+ Could take a wait sometimes, but I am always satisfied after eating here. They keep the place clean and are very good of getting rid of any unnecessary trash on your table. I love their yellowtail and spicy albacore sushi! Their rolls are pretty good, too! I love the blue fin roll. So refreshing.

The food quality is great! Everything is so fresh and delicious. Service is good as well they were super nice. I came here for lunch and it was busy. The place is a little bit cramped but I definitely recommend for a quick bite or with friends!

This is by far one of me and my sister's favorite go-to place to get some quality sushi. Even take out orders are superb. We go there about 15 mins after opening and it was pretty empty at first and more people started to trickle in towards the end of our meal. Between my sister, my bf, and I shared 1 sashimi appetizer, 4 rolls, and 2 large hot sakes. All delicious (honestly could have added another roll or two but thats just because we were hungry). For the most part we get the same typical 3 rolls: Salmon Lover, King Kong, and Golden Member BUT we tried to do some things different this time. What we got: - Spicy Tuna Sashimi : Literally always fresh tasting and flavorful for such a simple slice of tuna - Salmon Lover Roll (my fav): If you love salmon on your sushi...you can't go wrong with this - King Kong Roll: The lemon is a nice citrus addition - Green Dragon Roll: Basic but packed with all the right flavors - T. F. D. Roll (limited edition): Honestly, this was really good and the Halibut had an amazing texture to it. Overall, I highly recommend coming here if you're looking for good sushi in the Ventura Area. Great Sushi and Happy Customer!

I usually frequent the same sushi spot and I decided on a whim to try I Love Sushi for a solo date. I got the garlic albacore roll (i love albacore) and asked the waiter to surprise me with her favorite roll. She chose the sunset roll with her special sauce on the side (not sure what it was but i'm not picky) So good. The service was quick and everyone was kind (I went on a Saturday at 6:30ish pm) The food was so fresh and tasty. I spent about $35 for two rolls and a water and it was totally worth it. I will definitely be back! Thank you!

~ SMALL SPACE, BIG FLAVOR, A HIDDEN GEM ~…read more Gotetsu is one of those blink and you'll miss it spots, but once you're inside, you know you've found something sooo special!! Cozy, intimate, and very much a hole in the wall izakaya, this place is all about authentic Japanese flavors and perfectly grilled skewers. There is NO sushi here (they make that very clear), just kushiyaki, small plates, and goooood vibes. I've never been to Japan (yet), but I would imagine this is what it would be like walking into a small mom and pop shop there. The open kitchen is tiny but fun to watch, and from pretty much any seat you can see your food being made. It's a GREAT date night spot, order a bunch of dishes and share everything so much fun. We came for dinner and with a rotating menu of skewers and specials we were satisfied and it kept things interesting! Lunch is more limited, with preset options, but the quality still hits. The donburi is solid, the chicken curry is comforting (could use a little more protein), and the skewers, especially pork belly, chicken & onion, and meatballs, are seasoned and grilled really well. Veggie skewers like zucchini and brussels sprouts are simple but still tasty. At dinner, my husband and I loved the spicy garlic edamame, chicken thigh with yuzu pepper, ribeye skewer, gyoza, and the yaki onigiri (grilled rice ball with a crispy outside). Pro move: dip the onigiri into the leftover spicy edamame sauce. Trust. Ordering is easy with scan-and-pay, the owner is hands-on, and you can feel the care put into every dish. Take it easy with the ordering (they are typically skewer by skewer because you can easily rack up a hefty bill!) If you're looking for an authentic Japanese izakaya experience in Ventura, focused on flavor, not trends, Gotetsu absolutely delivers.

5/5 -- A Hidden Treasure in Oxnard!…read more If you're hunting for a true comfort-food haven this winter, Ozeki Noodle is the little gem you'll want to keep all to yourself... but it's way too good not to share. The ambience is calm, clean, and quietly inviting--like Oxnard's own little pocket of Japan. The service? Warm, attentive, and wonderfully efficient. You know what truly makes this place? The authentic food. Every dish feels crafted with care. I love being able to sit down with a steaming cup of hot green tea, the most delicious tempura, a spicy tuna hand roll that never misses, and a bright, refreshing seaweed salad--without having to wait forever for seating or service. If you're starving, this is where you want to land for fast, delicious comfort. And the star of the show: the chicken bowl. I promise you will not find a chicken bowl this good anywhere else. Tender, flavorful, and so satisfying it deserves its own fan club. The tempura? Feathery, crisp perfection--easily the best in Ventura County. No exaggeration needed. Their miso is a warm winter hug, and the combo with the chicken bowl + rice + a large bowl of udon is the definition of cozy luxury. The broth is rich, the noodles are plush and filling, and you'll leave full with leftovers to smile at later. Great find in Ventura! Asian food has certainly come a looooong way since I was a kid!…read more Was needing a quick bite before swim finals. First, the gal who took our order was super friendly and helpful. The food was really good. Reminded me of We had the original chicken wings, japchae, kimbap, bulgogi bowl and the yuzu and grape ades. All of the dishes were wonderful. Chicken was nice and crispy --good flavor throughout and not greasy at all! The japchae had a great balance of flavors and the shiitake mushrooms, in particular, had really great flavor--must have been marinated for a long time to soak up all the juices! The kimbap was delicious! It was fresh and the pickle in it (Japanese call it takuan, idk what its name in Korean is) was super mild. It didn't overpower the other ingredients. The bulgogi was a solid dish. It had also the glass noodles on one side and plenty of meat and veggies. A good, well-rounded dish. We will come back for bing soo after the kid finishes finals, if it isn't too late! A local regular enthusiastically suggested we try it, so we will be back. The drinks were really delicious as well. Not too sweet and refreshing taste--I think each one is handmade individually. Overall, I highly recommend this place. It has all of the taste of real Korean home cooking at a good price point. You can get quality dishes in a casual in-and-out setting. We will be back for sure!

The bibimbap was very standard -- nothing special or memorable about it. It tasted like a typical Korean bibimbap you can get at many other places, but here it was priced at $12.75, while I've seen similar dishes at other restaurants for under $8. The wings were the same story. A small portion of five wings costs $12.99, and while they tasted fine, they were just ordinary Korean fried wings. Nothing about them really stood out to justify the price. Overall, the food is decent, but there's nothing unique or special that makes the higher prices make sense. In my opinion, the only thing that stands out about this restaurant is that it's overpriced for what it offers.

Ambiance- seating inside is generally small tables close together and the dining area is on the smaller side. An open kitchen area is behind the counter, but they also have more kitchen space behind in the back. They layout really reminded me of Tokyo Ramen houses that are designed for solo single eaters (as a lot of Tokyo casual dining is). During my meal, the majority of us at tables were solo eaters, only 1 other table had 2 diners. So I imagine if you're a larger party it, it may be hard to get seating at busier times due to smaller number of tables. Ordered- Tokatsu ShuShu ramen. The noodles were springy and bouncy. The broth is creamy and tasty. I still think I really enjoy Silverlake Ramen's Tonkatsu broth (I don't know what their secret ingredient is that makes it unique) but URamen's is still satisfying. I had 4 pieces of Chashu, 1/2 of a seasoned soft boiled egg. The yolk is seasoned in a very sweet sauce- interesting taste. They add a wonton crisp which is unusual for Ramen bowl! I would've like nori crisp but that's ok. Service- One server was taking care of the lunch crowd. The owners are Thai, and I believe the server is also Thai. She was quite polite. Usually I think most Thai restaurants offer that super kind, and humble service to customers. (I say this as Korean Ame, it's noticeably different than immigrant run Korean or Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants) I do prefer the taste of Silverlake Ramen, BUT they have even more limited seating. The parking and access here is easier and quicker than going to the Collection Annex, so I think this is another solid Ramen place. Note- They are closed on Mondays, and closed between 3-5pm everyday. The first time I came, was during their closed time.

Feels very contemporary and not like a darker wood ambiance of more traditional Japanese sushi places. This place must generate most of their business from their super packed HH. Once 5pm hit, it got noticeably busier, and by 530pm- fully packed. Sumo is maybe one of the few places that allows takeout of their HH items because they know how crowded they get. That is generous of them. I think their prices are among the most affordable for HH sushi around this area and everything was fresh. I am not picky sushi rolls person, but I would guess their sushi quality is average, made for mass consumption and general public, not for people who really want Japan level top grade sushi/ sashimi. Service: it all depends. Most of the servers are college aged young women. So a lot of them huddle and talk during busy HH time while they constantly scan the busy entrance for new diners. It can take awhile for someone to actually come take your order; we were lucky our server was pretty sweet natured. But in general I don't get the vibe that most of the servers are very focused about their jobs. But with busy HH, warm and friendly service isn't a priority. We're here for the HH deals and fresh affordable sushi. For these points, Sumo delivers. The ambiance: modern and bright, not my first choice. I prefer more low key settings.
