Great location! Located right next to the oxnard marina it has beautiful views and a great place for a scenic walk with your dog. Okay food. I ordered the chashu ramen which did have a generous serving of 5 pieces of pork. But omg they were so TOUGH. It felt like I was chewing forever. I think leaving the pork in the broth longer made them less tough but wow, that was a jaw workout. I was surprised that the ramen didn't come with the usual beansprouts and bamboo shoots but each place is different. I was a little annoyed to pay $2 to add them on additionally but I understand that some people may not like those things in ramen so it is an overall good idea to charge separately. Okay service. My friend and I didn't order any drinks, just had water. But it was a hassle to get a refill. I had asked twice and made multiple attempts to move my empty cup to a more strategic location to signal for water. But eventually my friend just got up and asked for me. Delicious Ramen on a rainy night. We picked the won-ton Ramen with spicy miso sauce, that was not very spicy and quite tasty. They had a good selection of sushi. Everything we tried was good and fresh. The place is not fancy at all. The service was excellent despite the fact that it was pretty busy and one server (Ariana?) handled everything including a stream of Door Hub/Grub dash orders. She was hopping! But there was still plenty of seating and our group of 8 was seated immediately at the bar. My wife and I shared the chashu ramen with miso broth and a deluxe sushi. And our friend had a chirashi bowl. The ramen broth was delicious. And there was generous portion of chashu pork. Really hit the spot. The sushi was good. Loved the nigiri. Vegas roll - this was FANTASTIC. I think this is easily the best vegas roll I've ever had. I was obsessed!!!! Volcano roll - . I did not like it but my husband did. It was very different from what we're used to. Sashimi - so fresh and delicious. Like WOW. They are definitely tied with Banzai Marina when it comes to sashimi. Garlic bomb Ramen - this was surprisingly not my favorite. The broth did not have enough rich flavor and tasted watered down, so unfortunately this was a miss. What a cute little place with a waterfront rear end. We've been here at least 5 times. My wife has a thing for Ramen and she says all the ramen she's tried here is of high quality and portion size. They also have excellent sushi rolls and will make you any favorite custom roll you love from elsewhere, even better when made here. The raw fish sushi is also extra fresh tasting. Suisen Ramen is OK. My experience was a solid "B-" letter grade. I had the Garlic Bomb Ramen. The spicy Miso broth was very good, and flavorful. The ramen noodles done just right. However, the chashu was terrible, tough almost inedible, finished about one third of it. My dining partner had a bento box. Again decent, the lettuce in the salad was past it's prime and dressing overly sweet. Otherwise, it was good enough. The service was decent, but there was only one waitperson and she was doing her best, but the place was very busy. Also, it took over almost forty minutes to get our order. The dinner area is also decent, clean, neat and given the small space well laid out. I can't honestly say that I'd go back, but I can't say I would object if I was with some folks that wanted to go. I had really high hopes for this ramen restaurant but it just didn't do it for me. There were some pros and cons about the quality of the food. We got the koi and fried chicken ramen. I specifically asked if the chefs can make the noodles more firm. Although the employee understood and wrote it down, the noodles still came out pretty soft :( we got both of the ramens with Tonkatsu broth. I was sort of disappointed in the broth. Although it was nice and hot, it didn't have that rich, thick texture that Tonkatsu broth usually has. The Koi ramen pork slices were also too thick and were not as tender. It also had a freezer taste to it which was not pleasant. The pros were that the eggs were cooked perfectly and the fried chicken that came with the ramen was very crispy, juicy, and had a great flavor. Overall, it's a pretty mid ramen restaurant. We decided to grab the seats at the sushi bar especially since it was wide open for us ! We ordered: Spicy tuna tempura roll wasn't bad but wasn't great . There was way too thick of a tempura layer for our liking . The flavors weren't too bad tho. Not too sweet either which was good. Salmon belly sushi (seared per our request) was magnificent! I love a perfect sear and this was on point. 5/5 Ono sushi was good. 4/5 Scallop sushi was great. Giant scallops were just the right tenderness and flavor. 5/5 Yellowtail belly sushi was oooohhhhh soooo gooood! The buttery flavor had my taste buds dancing for joy ! 5/5 Toro sushi was ok didn't have the melting in my mouth effect that I was hoping for at $14 for an order. I was really disappointed but now I know to ask for old toro and not new for my liking . I learned that tonight from Kevin, one of the owners . I spent $65 on this experience--would you? "Bad" doesn't even begin to describe it. The ramen broth tasted like watered-down bouillon cubes, lacking depth and flavor. There's no 48-hour broth to be found here. The noodles had an unpleasant eggy undertone, and the excessive green onion felt like a desperate attempt to distract from the absence of meaningful toppings. As for the Tsukemen--dipping ramen should have a rich, thick broth so that it can cost your noodles when dipped, but this was more like watery soup. Found this on Yelp even though Waze keeps directing me to another one which is nearby very bizarre. Anyways, It was a long thin narrow restaurant not a single seat was open and they were busy with uber orders. I sat down at the bar and ordered the ramen dish with fried chicken and thin noodles. The Miso broth was very good love the thinly slivered green onions and bamboo mushrooms. It's a giant bowl of cup of noodles without the cancer or at least most of it LOL. The Fried Chicken although not bad was hoping for breast pieces instead of mini thigh nuggets which I really ordered because I saw it on the next patron next to me but in retrospect wasn't really necessary the noodles are perfectly fine and a very good portion. Another beautiful sunday in Oxnard, and the first thing my hungover hunger is craving is ramen! Slowly became a regular here. Adrianna is always sweet greeting right away. Decided to sit at the bar since I was alone, and had good conversations with chef Kevin. Ordered a Large Asahi beer and he had one as well! Happy to do my part to relieve a little stress on a busy sunday shift! My regular order here is the Garlic Bomb ramen, spicy tonkotsu (pork) broth #2, additional side of noodles and a soy egg. Lunch side of small chashu rice bowl. The staff here is always great and attentive, and the food is always consistently soul warming, which is why I come so often, as the selection of asian restaurants in Ventura County is not very broad, as I work at one of the more dominant ones. They do have outdoor seating through the back of the restaurant which looks over the harbor. Its super busy on the weekends after 2pm and on rainy days. Delivery is available through Grubhub as well. I ordered the Garlic bomb ramen with tonkatsu broth. It had a lot of roasted, and also fresh shaved raw garlic, but it was not too stringent, or overwhelming. It had good amount of green onions also. I liked the savory and flavorful broth along with those sharp ingredients. Some or a couple of the pork pieces were tender, but not all of them. It's prob because it was not part of the pork belly that I'm used to. There's lots of sides you can choose to add in your ramen, and also other Japanese foods, for friends that may want to have something other than ramen. Nice and clean, also a plus! read more
