Table for Family or group of friends
Andrew W.

Revisiting a restaurant that I did not enjoy before can be a total surprise! I recall when I first came (when they first opened a few years back) here with my co-workers, I did not think much of their food and especially with their prices. Not only was the taste but the value was totally lacking. Fast forward to now, when our friend said that she wanted to treat us to a meal there, I was reluctant and even tried to steer her away, but glad she insisted. To my surprise all the items she ordered were very tasty and was not what I had experienced before... Highlight of our meal.. Cauliflower & Shrimp .. how simple can this be? The Chef used a very light savoury sauce that captures the delicate flavours of both items, no single taste is too outstanding but it just makes the whole dish memorable!! Braised Sparerib in Black Vinegar .. a classic dish that requires patience & skills to make the dish stands out, here the Chef slow cooks the spareribs first to make it tender, then he would braise it in the sugar & vinegar until it becomes thick like molasses, the result is a rich & tangy coating for the tender spareribs .. try it if its available. Overall, I would have them back on my list for casual Chinese food, service is attentive ( male servers are more polite, haha ) and the seatings are comfortable. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, all tables are rectangular rather than round. Parking is free at the open air mall, but it is always a challenge, if you are going in a group make sure you car pool!!

This is a strange restaurant. Service is super super slow, had to rush my order a couple of times before it came out. Also, some of their dishes are sold out, not once, not twice BUT all three times i've been here even if i'm the first one to arrive after they open. How is that even possible just take it off your menu.... The food here is average, nothing stands out and everything is pretty tasty.

4/5 because no beer... The taste is very delicious. I wish each dish can be a bit more. They have beer flyer on the table but no beer when I ordered... The price is ok. If the portion can be bigger. It will be great. Overall, I'd come back again.

Some restaurants you never would try unless invited by friends. This was the case today. We were pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was and how good the service. This is the new location on Sexsmith road in Richmond. I really like the decor and ambiance. There is nothing like it that I have experienced. Food wise, we ordered the marinated duck 8/10, like it sliced more thinly please! Boiled fish fillets was next 10/10. Braised pork with dried bean 8/10, taste needs a kick, but well cooked. Stir fried pig intestines with scallions 10/10....more meat would have been nice, but tasted really good. Stewed meatball with Chinese cabbage. Great flavour, meatballs need to be more melt in your mouth and bigger. 7/10. You might think how come I gave five stars when not all the dishes were 10/10. Well, like I said, the dining experience, ambiance and service pushed it to the top. It is on the pricey side so be warned. Overall a good experience.

One thing we noticed rightaway is that even though every dish on the menu has an accompanying photo , which indeed is quite helpful , there are no prices anywhere . Hmmm . . . kinda weird we thought . And because it's Mid-Autumn's we BYOB and were told there's corkage , which is fine , but they insisted on charging even for one of our tiny twist-open 300ml sake . Again , because of Mid-Autumn's , we ordered quite a few dishes and to be honest they all tasted kinda the same , especially their chicken offerings . Their " signature " chicken casserole , which we pre-ordered the night before , was a disappointment with the meat not tender and flavourful enough . Anyway it's all good cuz now that we've tried them you don't necessarily have to .

Delicious. They specialize in grains. We ordered 7 dishes including noodle, rice cakes, rice, chicken in a pot, black chicken soup, egg wrapped pork with sticky rice ball.

We've been here a couple of times and it never disappoints. Their menu constantly changes, so some favourite items may not be available the next time you go. We've tried a variety of items and they're all really good - can't go wrong with whatever you end up choosing

Signature whole chicken in clay pot

The first time I came here was out of randomness cause was in the area and finished shopping at Yaohan. After that, came back a few more times with mixed feelings; having a love and hate relationship with this place. This is one place I strongly suggest you make a reservation way ahead of time because most nights they have a full house. And don't be late otherwise your table will be gone. Because I had a not so good and kind of dramatic experience with that. Here's the hate relationship... I made a group reservation because my bestie was back in town and wanted him to try their famous chicken. Due to rush hour traffic, bad weather condition and trying to find parking, we were 15mins late. They gave awhile my table for my group to 2 people. I let my friend talked and to solve the situation while I waited outside. To make a long story short, I had to asked one of the manager/owner," are you really going to embarrass me in front of my friends?" Finally, everything was solved and got a table after 10mins and an apology for the misunderstanding, thank you and appreciated! The love relationship is that they do have a very juicy tasty signature chicken in a clay pot. Which I enjoy and recommend a must order plus they change their menu often with new dishes. The place has a pretty causal and comfy ambiance, pretty up to date with the interior trend. And their menu doesn't have prices on them so if you are on a dining budget, always ask how much each dish is. Here were the food I ordered during my most recent visit; 1. Signature chicken in clay pot. It's a whole chicken braised inside a clay pot with pig feet, etc. very juicy and tasty. Not many places in BC cook it this way, this is mainly what I am here for. 2. Braised nappa cabbage with prawns and chestnuts. Goes good with rice! 3. Pork rib soup with peanuts and lotus roots. Nice and hot in a little clay pot the way I like it. I might be biased on this one cause I like almost all soups. 4. Boiled slice fish with chilli peppers in broth. Fish were tender and the broth was tasty. 5. Truffle shrimp fried rice. I personally find it a bit too plain and bland, but goes good with other food without taking away their taste. Overall, the waitresses are pretty friendly most of the time except sometimes the service may be lacking. It has a comfortable seating arrangement and it's menu are always changing a bit so it doesn't get boring after a few visits. I would repeat just for their signature chicken alone and do recommend to try out their signature dishes if you haven't done so. And thank you to the manger for the apology last time, appreciated it!

They have a large menu here, so don't be afraid to ask for recommendations from the staff! They're all really friendly and willing to explain what each dish is like. Each dish was really delicate and special, so we enjoyed pretty much every dish. Their signature is the stone pot chicken (砂锅鸡), but unfortunately we didn't get to try it this time. Sometimes you need to call in to reserve it beforehand. Next time we'll definitely be coming back to try it again. P.S Make sure to call ahead to reserve so you don't have to wait -- they're practicing distancing seating rn too :)

Very delicious. Love the chicken and the pork feet. The frog was not as good, feels like frozen.

Egg plant salad

Stumbled on this place and quite glad we did. Initially was kind of awkward, their seating plan was guided by one head waiter. We had to stand for a while and wait for the other staff to confirm with him, where we could sit (even though there were a few empty tables). The first thing to comment on is that the atmosphere is nice. Music was pretty relaxing, the environment was nice and comfortable. Staff were pretty quick once we were seated. The menu was pretty sweet, showed full page pictures for quite a few dishes and the value was displayed in the corner. The food was really tasty, worth the price I thought. We ordered the steamed pork meatballs wrapped in egg. Also a egg bean salad with green chilli and a gluttonous rice with duck wrapped in the leaf. All very tasty. All in all I will go back.

This place is anything but your ordinary neighborhood Chinese food joint. When you walk in you are greeted by the extremely friendly staff and on most nights a packed house!! Which speaks for the quality of the food you will soon enjoy. We ordered the clay pot chicken which was highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The whole chicken was cooked to perfection and can be easily be pulled off the bone with only your chop sticks, and the flavor of the dish will leave you scraping the bottom of the pot for every last bite. When our next dish arrived our expectations continued to be exceeded. We ordered the deep fried whole fish, this dish caught our eye as we were being seated, we saw a near by table digging into something we just knew we had to try. We were blown away with how delicious and fresh this fish was, it was prepared in such an interesting way where each bite is both extra crispy and light and flakey and don't forget about the sauce. The sauce was the perfect combination of sweet and sour and is so addictive... to say the least we cleaned the plate! On top of the exceptional food the vibe of the dining room is fantastic, and the wait staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, regularly checking in on us refilling our tea and removing used plates. Given how busy it was that night we never felt forgotten which always adds to the experience! We will definitely be back soon as there is so much more we want to try on the menu!!

So mum wanted to show her appreciation for being her chauffeur taking her around to the doctors…read more She took me out for dimsum and with it being in Richmond there is a plethora of choices. She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. Yes come on a date or impress business clients/boss or family celebrations.

I have many Chinese friends in Vancouver, and my last visit to Kirin Richmond was in July 2024…read more This time, it was my birthday, and my friends insisted on treating me to Kirin Richmond once again. On a typical Sunday evening, the restaurant is usually fully occupied, but my friend had thoughtfully made a reservation a week in advance, so our table for five was ready upon arrival. As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, with good airflow thanks to the wide-open front entrance facing the parkade. The front desk receptionist greeted us cordially, and we were escorted to a cozy table in a comfortable location -- not too close to the washrooms, which I appreciated. Our meal began with the Kirin Special Assorted Cold Appetizer, followed by Crab Meat, Dried Scallops, and Fish Maw Soup. The soup arrived piping hot and was delicious, with a generous portion that could easily have served eight people. We also enjoyed Pea Tips Braised with Bean Curd and Assorted Mushrooms in Consommé, Marinated Free-Range Crispy Skin Chicken, Fillet of Cod Sautéed with Seasonal Vegetables, and Live Crab in Consommé with Ginger and Green Onion, served with E-fu Noodles. Overall, the quality and taste of every entrée were excellent. Service was top-notch -- tea and hot water were refilled constantly, bones and used plates were replaced promptly, and the servers were friendly and engaging throughout the evening. My friend and his family have apparently been regulars at this location for over two decades, which likely contributed to the exceptional attentiveness we received. However, one aspect of the experience genuinely disturbed me. All servers, including the captains, continued to wear masks at all times. While this practice was understandable two years ago, now -- five years after the onset of the pandemic, with COVID-19 managed similarly to other seasonal respiratory illnesses -- the continued universal masking in a fine-dining environment feels unnecessary and detracts from the overall guest experience. Fine dining, in my view as an avid foodie, is built on human connection, hospitality, and personal interaction. Masks create a more impersonal, almost clinical atmosphere. In a well-ventilated space like this, the environmental risk does not seem to justify the visual and social trade-off. Rather than providing reassurance, the persistent masking may unintentionally signal that the environment is unsafe or that management is out of step with current provincial health guidelines, where masking is now a personal choice rather than a mandate. Final verdict: Food & Service: 5/5 Ambience: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 -- as the current aesthetic feels more like a relic of 2020 than a leader in 2026 hospitality.

We made a reservation on OpenTable (which is a rare platform to use among Chinese restaurants in Greater Vancouver). We were seated a few minutes after arrival. The space feels energetic. It's a more modern restaurant, so there is much color and younger vibrancy than a traditional Chinese restaurant. What else is different? No round tables - only smaller square tables - which means it's better designed for small groups rather than large groups. We ended up trying a number of items: - Beef Belly Skewers: Very good. Everyone loved them. I wished we had ordered more. - Chicken Skewers: Ok. I think asked for something but they ran out and gave us gizzards and hearts, which are never good because they become mealy and not enjoyable to eat. - Dungeness Crab with Salty Egg Yolk: Good. Prepared as well as lots of restaurants. They provide disposable gloves to eat with, but nothing to crack the shells. - Stir Fried Vegetables: Good. No complaints. - Fresh Fish with Tofu Hot Pot: Very good. - Fresh Fish Steamed: Very good. - Lobster with Sticky Rice: Very good. Service is really very good. Genuinely more friendly and talkative than I'm accustomed too, but I appreciated. Overall, a good meal. It was different in that the decor and service is what really stood out, and that's the difference maker compared to most other Chinese restaurants with the same quality of food. That being said, you pay for it too. I definitely enjoyed it, but it better suited for a small groups rather than large ones.

What's appealing here is that their Instagram advertises daily specials so you can get some dishes for a great discount (like 40% off). We tried the braised combo (pork ear, pork intestines, fish cake), Taiwanese egg wrap, braised pork sauce rice with deep fried pork chop, and yam taro mochi balls. The braised combo is pretty solid - I didn't really like the funkiness to the intestines (I generally enjoyed it in barbecue settings) but the fish cake was fantastic. I also liked the texture of the pork ears. The Taiwanese egg wrap was a bit tasteless, so I wouldn't recommend. Braised pork sauce rice is the lu ruo fan which is a large portion with seaweed, bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Pork chop was flavorful and juicy but not crispy batter, which is okay. Yam taro mochi balls were sweet and chewy. I don't like taro but I loved this dessert! Service is okay. They give a water jug for self pour but the water jug was of questionable cleanliness. The specials were not discounted so we called it out and we weren't told that we had to put the order with a server, not the QR code, so it was a strange interaction. They ended up honoring the discount. Also, they shut down ordering 1 min before 10:30pm - guess they didn't want more money as we wanted to order 1 more dish and they preemptively told the kitchen to close. Sure it's fine no big deal, it was a lot of food.
