I chose Generations because eod close proximity to my hotel and I am glad I did. It might have been that I spent 8 hours in my car, the 30deg weather or the $1.50 pints but I was very impressed. The burger I ordered tasted great and I am a sucker for house made chips. It was cooked great and just the right size. Oh, and did I mention $1.50. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were great. Ordered the chicken parmesan, salad was brown and wilted, the chicken looked and tasted like it came from a tv dinner, and the pasta sauce tasted like it was straight out of a stewed tomato can. The atmosphere sitting outside was nice, but our food was below par from the beginning. The zucchini planks were not much more then heavy breading. Our salads came almost immediately after the appetizer and it had a lot of brown lettuce. And within 2 minutes, or entrees showed up. The server took them back but they were held under a heat lamp while we ate our salads and then served half cold. The toast was dry and cold, and the new York strip tasted old. I've been coming to Generations since it was the swing club in the 90s (and before) and it may be different than what it used to be, but it's still just as good, if not better. After 100 years the place has changed a lot, you walk around it and see pictures from all the generations that have run and grown up there, it's nice to see such a great family feel to restaurant/bar. The place has nice country shows and draws crowds of all ages. In all, it's a great piece of WV and wheeling history. When I visit from Texas I make sure to visit Generations along with the delicious Dicarlos and Coleman's. The only thing I wish the bar had was some shiner bock and landshark other than that it's one of the pillars of wheeling and I hope it lasts another 100 years! read more

I've been here twice and both times were great experiences! It's a classic bar experience, but a bigger restaurant so it is not as crowded. They have a large menu selection, and amazing Buffalo Chicken Dip. I believe I had a burger both times I was there- their fries are very good! The service is also fast. read more

My fiance and our two young children stopped in a month ago before dinner rush and were seated indoors at a round table. We waited for our waitress for a little over 15 minutes (which is an exceptional time for me to give someone as I have been a waitress before). To no avail, no one showed up to our table, many waitresses passing our table, our hostess who may have been at fault with communication was in our line of vision about 10 ft away, our children were growing impatient and were hungry so we packed up. I'm giving this place 5 starts for many reasons. First, I would like to point out that the location and space of this place is awesome. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor is huge with many types of tables. The outdoor is a good size with a beautiful stream in the back. Secondly, the servers are amazing, they went above and beyond and has no issues when asking for an extra sauce or asking about things on the menu. Third, the food is delicious and reasonably priced for what you receive(good size portions not too small or too big). I choose the zucchini basket and lazyman fajitas(I think that's what the fajita was called) but both were fabulous. Fourth, I'm from Buffalo, NY and this place had franks hot sauce! How killer! Was looking for a good place to stop in Wheeling, this seemed to be the best place per yelp and I can't disagree. Pierogies hit the spot (and I've had my share of pierogies in Chicago). Steak wrap was good, but the pierogies are definitely better. Two things really stood out is the afternoon happy hour - we were there on a Sunday afternoon so all draft beers were half off - score! Everything I've said before remains true this is about as good as it gets in Wheeling. I have yet to experience a bad dish here. The busy nights are Tuesdays for trivia and Saturday nights for bands. Yes this place just got bigger and better for watching bands. With the expansion there are even more TVs to watch any sporting event. We had a large group of about 25 people on a Friday night during the NCAA basketball championship. They gave us our own room and we had a fantastic server. She took care of the entire group. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich which was glorious after you took off some of the bleu cheese or else it felt like just biting into a mound of spicy bleu cheese. Blegh. She ordered a salad, which was huge and filling for her. The handmade chips were delicious and I loved them. I wish they sold them individually packaged! I ordered a side of them and they came out hot and fresh. I've been here a few times for birthday parties and showers and everything I've had at those events was great. For an app I ordered the spinach and artichoke dip which is LOADED with artichoke but I didn't mind. I loved that as well, especially with the warm chips it came with. I'm giving two stars because the food was not bad. The service on the other hand was not very good. The first indication this was not going well was when the waitress had to bring everyone water because the bar could not get the drinks out. It went downhill from there with the food taking 50 minutes to come out after we ordered. We never got updated on the status of the food and I finally had to go to the hostess station and ask for a manager because no one was coming around to check on us. They ended up comping our drinks but it would have been nice to have the waitress or better yet the manager come over with an update before I went to them. read more
