    Breakfast Burrito
    Julie B.

My family stopped by for lunch and were not disappointed. We were greeted and seated right away. The menu at this place is insane. Literally the largest menu I've ever seen. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She answered all of our questions and made sure to check in on us throughout our meal. I ordered the open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. The turkey was thick and fresh, not the typical lunch meat turkey that's served in most places. My boyfriend ordered a breakfast burrito with gravy fries. I know what a combination right? His burrito was huge and was stuffed full. We all enjoyed our meals, left with full bellies, and to go containers. We'll definitely be back!

I'm glad that they revived the deceased Alpha into the new Alpha Tavern, small local businesses ought to be supported whenever possible. That said, they have some improvements they need to make before it becomes a place I would return to again. The exterior and interior have been completely revamped, and frankly it looks great. They have plenty of seating, both inside and outside on a patio, as well as a bar area. We ate inside in one of the booths and the seating is very comfortable. They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa, and the chips are the delicious corn tortilla kind. Great start! Unfortunately, things started to slide from there. After looking through both sides of the menu, one thing became readily apparent: this place is NOT cheap. $12 for a basic hamburger, and add $1 for each cheese/non-condiment topping you want. This was surprising, especially since the original Alpha's menu was pretty reasonably priced if I recall correctly. None of the other items were any easier on the wallet, and even the sides were $5 a pop. Ouch. When we placed the order and my girlfriend requested the tomato be left off, our server laughed and said she could put that in the order notes but they always leave it on the plate anyway. Kind of a weird way to respond to a reasonable request. After she had put our order in, I realized she hadn't asked how I wanted my burger done, and no surprise when it arrived burnt to a crisp. My girlfriend's turkey burger arrived with the wrong bun, in addition to the tomato (as expected) and lacking a pickle while mine did come with one. Consistency seems to be a problem here. So, verdict on the food: excellent fries, GREAT BBQ sauce (some of the best I have ever had), great brioche buns for the sandwiches, though I have no idea if their Angus meat is any good since it arrived thoroughly incinerated. My girlfriend reported her turkey burger was below average. No idea as to any appetizers, other entrees, or desserts since we did not partake on this occasion, though the plates heading to other tables looked quite attractive. I feel like they are still figuring out the menu, kitchen, and staff training, though this was a pretty lackluster experience for such a pricey place. Hope they improve as time goes on. Overall: 3.0 stars --- Pros: - Attractive exterior and interior, lots of seating. - Free salsa is great. - Plenty of free parking in front. - Staff is pleasant but... Cons: - ...Not terribly accurate with their orders, nor are they that great at honoring customer requests. - These prices are surprisingly high for what you get. - The food items seem to be average at best, though elements of them were below average on this trip.

The variety of foods were amazing and satisfying. We ate on the outside deck and the weather was delightful. The young lady that waited on us was kind and very pleasant to offer suggestions for our various tastes. We will go back again

Great atmosphere, service & food. My fave is the brussel sprouts app. They have a very good selection of food and beverages.

Burger with Swiss, egg, and grilled mushrooms

Decent menu, although I guess it changes a lot. The loaded Bloody Mary I came for was no longer available. So I went with a regular bloody mary which was decent but not worth $7. Went with the Brussels sprouts app and informed the server they were undercooked. He politely apologized and brought back another order exactly the same way... I was then told they simply flash fry them in the fryer. I do my own sprouts at home and every recipe I've ever seen calls for a pan fry to brown the flats, then broil high heat to crisp the out side and cook all the way through at the same time. Obviously the proper method takes too long ? I'd rather wait for my food and have it right than a hack shortcut. HOWEVER, the burger was great, I love the build your burger method they have here. The fries are awesome too!

It was a thick beef patty topped with cheese, bacon, and a fried egg. The burger was astoundingly juicy and seasoned heavily. Fries were pretty standard but they complemented the burger nicely. Highly recommended, though I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of their burgers. The atmosphere is so rugged, it is actually almost charming. The lighting is dark and there is a bit of a smoky smell to the air, though no smoking is allowed at the bar where we sat. There are also a few gambling machines in the back that appeared to be the most high tech thing in the whole place. The atmosphere was really quite retro, though perhaps not by design. The server (can't remember her name) was attentive and friendly. She chatted with my coworker and I while she prepared our burger on the griddle right in front of us. If you are looking for an authentic West Virginia type of experience, this is a great place to try. Just don't bring your kids, because they will not be allowed in!

Very nice. The fried pickles were good but also came out with a boatload of fried dough pieces on the plate. Not sure they were worth the $10 cost. The cuban sandwich was super yummy and plenty big for 2 people. Prices were a little elevated but it was well worth the stop. Would happily come again!

And that's where it pretty much ended for me. We were greeted by 2 individuals prior to being sat. Once we were sat I was told I couldn't have any outside drinks. I was carrying a hot tea in a paper cup when we walked in. No one else mentioned this. I later read a posting in the bathroom about outside drinks being prohibited. Seemed like it was mostly to prevent outside alcohol but was a blanket statement for all drinks. I thought it was odd I had to take my hot tea back to my car. Besides that the waitress wasn't super warm and friendly either. If I remember correctly she started with, "what are you drinking?" After I had to walk my tea to our parked vehicle. The food was mid. Very very mid. I got a salmon savory crepe. The salmon was dry, almost white in color and just seemed old. The crepe itself was chewy and hard to cut. My husband's wrap was decent. Kids plates were also decent. I liked that you "created" their plate from 3 categories or options. Overpriced for quality and portion. Once our food arrived there was a swarm of gnats that came with it. Our table was wobbly so cutting any food shook the entire surface. Our toddler caught on to this and wanted to rock the table the whole time. So between holding the table, trying to cut food and swatting gnats away.. it just wasn't a good experience all together. I'm confident there are better options in town for us to try when we return.

It was big enough to share with three people! This is the type of restaurant that has silly names for everything on their menu. For example, Crepes of Wrath is a savory crepe with sausage, and Banana-fo-Fana has bananas and granola in it. Usually, I refuse to say these silly names out loud when I order, and instead will just order according to the ingredients. ("Give me the Nutella and berries crepe.") I know. I'm that person! You don't want to take me to a silly-names restaurant, because I will ruin your silly-names experience. In this case, though, the silly names are so pervasive throughout the menu that I was overwhelmed and I just gave up. Sometimes, you just have to grit your teeth and play along. Yes, I did say, "Give me the Last Tango." Before the crepe, though, we got lunch. Later Alligator has a huge sandwich menu. At least two dozen different sandwiches! Then there's wraps, salads, appetizers and a kids' menu. I got the Fowl Play (sigh), which is chicken salad with lettuce and tomato on a croissant. My oldest kid got the Club Car, which included ham, turkey, Swiss cheese and lettuce. In case you were wondering: The silly names extend to the kids menu, too! (Which Wich Tuna Fish is just one example.) My younger kid got the Munchkin (mac and cheese). The kids' mac and cheese here is a mini cup, so just keep that in mind if your child eats a lot. Both of my children eat like birds, so the size of the mac and cheese wasn't a problem for us. This is also the type of restaurant that has interesting things everywhere you look (including the restroom!), so take some time to look around at all of the paraphernalia everywhere.

So I approached the juke box, and the bar tender Whoever said, that this is a family-owned restaurant, and they don't play the juke box during the day, because it is a family restaurant, but they have the Game Room, playing crude country music that doesn't respect the family, and they say my music is going make trouble. Plus they can have restricted stuff from not playing, instead, I felt singled out as a guest there. Yes, you can have your double standard rules, because this is America, and the freedom to do whatever you feel like, but that does not mean I have to go there to be singled. I don't have to go back there. The first time was great in January, but on my wife and I anniversary of 26 years, I think I can find a place where I feel more welcomed. It is always the case of passing a great place down through the family, in order for it feel unwelcomed of the glory days. Yes, I know this place has been around since the 1990's, but it is a very unwelcoming place. You can act nice, while showing you didn't want us there. They said it was because Karaoke was at 7PM, while a minute song at 4:45PM. While they didn't even know what songs I was going to place. Again, I thought it would be an old-fashioned feel. Thus instead, I felt the Cold Ridged Religious Feel that was a double standard of Gambling Rooms and so forth. Yes, I went to seminary and everything else, but I am going to let everyone choose their own path. They have their ridged rules, but that does not mean I have to eat there, especially for anniversaries. It is not an anniversary or a place for specially occasions. Again, it doesn't bother me one bit, because I move on, but I am raised with certain values to tell what I believe. My wife felt the onion soup was too breaded and cheesy. They had a great Salad and Gluten Free Pizza. And the bathrooms are clean when I went in there, but I don't feel welcomed there. Like you're a stranger that should never return. I just wonder.
