It's been a number of years since I've been to Wheeling. The first exit across the suspension bridge from Ohio, it's a beautiful town directly on the Ohio River. The brewery is a cool spot tucked in downtown, a quick detour off of the highway. There's indoor + outdoor seating and an air conditioning that pumps freezing air, a welcome treat on a 90+ degree day. They have a wide array of beer styles and friendly service. Years ago there were a couple of breweries in wheeling, but unfortunately the bartender said most of them have closed now. Hopefully the scene is reviving!

I had the grilled chicken sandwich-it was everything you would hope for! Juicy and tender-served on a firm bun,accompanied by iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato! It was really busy when we were there on a Saturday night - bar was full and we got the last table in the dining area. We snagged a couple seats at the bar after we ate and it was great fun. Three people were covering the whole front of the house - tables and bar, food orders and drinks. They were hopping and killing it. We didn't have a long wait for anything to come out to us. And that's where it pretty much ended for me. We were greeted by 2 individuals prior to being sat. Once we were sat I was told I couldn't have any outside drinks. I was carrying a hot tea in a paper cup when we walked in. No one else mentioned this. I later read a posting in the bathroom about outside drinks being prohibited. Seemed like it was mostly to prevent outside alcohol but was a blanket statement for all drinks. I thought it was odd I had to take my hot tea back to my car. Besides that the waitress wasn't super warm and friendly either. If I remember correctly she started with, "what are you drinking?" After I had to walk my tea to our parked vehicle. The food was mid. Very very mid. I got a salmon savory crepe. The salmon was dry, almost white in color and just seemed old. The crepe itself was chewy and hard to cut. My husband's wrap was decent. Kids plates were also decent. I liked that you "created" their plate from 3 categories or options. Overpriced for quality and portion. Once our food arrived there was a swarm of gnats that came with it. Our table was wobbly so cutting any food shook the entire surface. Our toddler caught on to this and wanted to rock the table the whole time. So between holding the table, trying to cut food and swatting gnats away.. it just wasn't a good experience all together. I'm confident there are better options in town for us to try when we return.

When our waitress came over, I asked about their beer list. She told me their cooler had gone bad and all of their beer was currently bad. I asked if they had anything on tap, and she said no. Confused, I asked if they had just opened, and she said they had actually been open since 2020. At that point, I asked if they brewed their own beer, and she told me they did not. She said someone in Dover, OH, brews for them--but currently, the only beers available were Busch, Bud, Blue Moon, and Saucy's IPA. While Saucy Brew Works is a good Ohio brewery we've visited before, it was disappointing to realize this place wasn't an actual brewery and didn't serve anything brewed in-house. I settled for the Saucy's IPA, which was fine, but I had really hoped to try their own beer--especially given the name and branding. That said, the food came out quickly and was actually quite good, which helped redeem the experience a bit. Overall, just be aware this isn't a real brewery, and if you're going for the beer, you might leave a little disappointed. But if you're just looking for a bite to eat, it's worth checking out.
