A BK fave! Out and about with the family and wanted some consistent good Japanese food and it did not disappoint. Great (fast) service with great quality food.

Our fave sushi place in our neighborhood! We went for dinner and it was delicious. We ordered the sashimi platter, Brooklyn special roll, the stuffed shishito tempura. The ambiance is always fun and bright! Staff are always very good. It's been open for decades and the owner, Osamu Koyama, continues to make sushi there! Amazing! His son, Kaz, is running the place.

Classic Japanese spot. We have been going here for over a decade. This is where my daughter became a sushi lover before she could even say the alphabet. Now that we live in bay ridge, accessing Geido is a bit of a pain since they don't deliver this far. We still make the trek a few times a year for a sit-down dinner though.

This place doesn't just look like an old school sushi joint-- it's been in business since 1985. I wonder what the neighborhood was like at the time, but to this day you can find most seats filled with folks enjoying their fresh fish at killer prices. Expect a no frills, hospitable place with an overwhelmingly lengthy menu and a wall covered in graffiti & scribbles. We waltzed in about half an hour before they were set to close for the night and they gladly ushered us in. If you're familiar with your typical sushi menu then you'll recognize the menu here. They have specials written on an expo board on the wall, and you can ask your server for recommendations, but I'd recommend any of their assorted sashimi and roll specials. The fish is fresh, food is made to order pretty speedily, and the prices are very reasonable. Nothing I had was mind blowing and I found the smell of fish in the place a tad overwhelming (even as a pescatarian who subsists on a heavy seafood diet) so I could more easily see this as a spot I'd order takeout or delivery from. As more and more upscale restaurants open in the neighborhood, Geido is a vestige of an old Prospect Heights that is quickly getting swallowed up by new developments and tasting menus.

Where do I even begin... I've been coming to this restaurant for the past 15 years of my life (I'm 18) and the memories I have here amazing. The reason I've taken so long to write this review is cause I don't want the line to get any longer but in all honesty they deserve all of the customers they can get. The food is consistently fresh and delicious with Osamu bringing in technique and precision to all his dishes. The service is impeccable and the graffiti wall adds to the awesome ambiance of this Brooklyn gem. I've never had a bad meal there and can't wait to go back.

Everything was delicious. Went here for a date night and sat at the bar. Very cute for casual sushi spot but very fresh/good quality. If you are hungry.. get the Brooklyn special roll. It's delicious !

Ceviche Sashimi Salad, WOW

Came to Brooklyn to meet up with an old work friend and he recommended this place, said he's been coming here several times a week for 30 YEARS!!!--so of course I was looking forward to it. We came as soon as the place opened for dinner and the restaurant quickly filled up but it wasn't too loud or obnoxious. As for the food...Welp. I can never eat at another sushi restaurant ever again, this was SO delicious, the most delicious sushi and omakase experience I've ever had. Our server was very polite and we got to watch the master sushi chef work diligently and NON STOP from the moment we sat down. Every piece and bite was a flavor bomb that just melts in your mouth, like celestial butter. We left happy, having caught up with an old friend and having a new favorite sushi spot. Yum.

This place has a lot of nostalgia for me, as it was my neighborhood sushi spot when I moved to Prospect Heights almost a decade ago. Over the years, Geido has never failed me. This place is always busy/packed and for good reason. It may not have the very best sushi in the city, but you seriously get the very best bang-for-your-buck. It's such a great neighborhood vibe here - love the graffiti, which gives it very much an urban/casual feel. The staff and chefs are friendly and work quick. I recently came back with some friends, and it brought back all the great memories here. Everything I have loved about this place is intact. My go to neighborhood sushi spot when I want very affordable sushi, but still want an energetic and cool vibe.

One of my top 5 restaurants! This place is a true gem! I'm Japanese and me and my mother have been coming here forever. It is some of the best sushi you can get in nyc, hands down. The owner and his son are some of the nicest and most genuine people ever, they literally remember everyone! There's always a little bit of a wait because the space isn't huge but it's so worth it. The vibes are great in here, super lively and the art is very fun. The fish quality is insane, it's crazy how buttery and precise everything is you can really see and feel the care being put in. If you're in the area you have to come here! And if you're not in the area, make the trek to come here!

Amazonas Roll - so good

Moved into the neighborhood few months ago and we're looking for a regular sushi spot. Geido's window display looked cool/ like it was a good restaurant so we went for the first time 2 weeks ago and I went again last week because I liked it so much. Its been opened since 1985 !!! The restaurant is a homey joint with graffiti on the walls, people go here for their weekday dinners and patrons have been coming for years ( our landlord for the last 15 years)! The sake prices are reasonable. The rolls are fire . I eat a lot of sushi and have been scarred by a lot of cheap sushi places. Geidos rolls are reasonably priced, service is quick and attentive and food is fresh and delicious. Our favorite rolls are the amazonas ( so many crunchies you will be super full) and the spicy scallop. Standard rolls that are pretty fire are - eel and avo, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. Try their California roll which has tobiko in it which was BOMB !!!!

LOVE Geido, it's truly a hidden gem. Great fish for great prices. I recently came back with friends to try the salmon special roll. As a salmon lover, this roll did not disappoint. Service was super nice and friendly. There's usually a bit of a wait and Geido is walk in only, so if you're planning of dinner with anymore than 2 people, I'd recommend arriving a little early to put your name in. It's so worth it though. Every time I eat here I leave so happy. And I love showing this place to friends since it's such a fun inside. The walls are very decorated and honestly you could spend all of dinner admiring the fun wall art.

My husband had the kaishin don, I had the Ozakaya donburi set and our girls shared the shoyu tonkatsu ramen. The fish was so incredibly fresh here and the rice was seasoned perfectly. My donburi set also came with dashi broth that the waitress later brought over to pour on top of the leftover rice in my bowl to be enjoyed at the end of the meal. The broth and rice combination was really comforting and satisfying. This dish was something I wanted to try in Japan but did not get a chance to experience when there, so I was excited to try it at Ozakaya. I was really pleasantly surprised by the ramen here as well. Although the pork could have been better/more tender, the broth was rich and seasoned so well and not too salty like other places. Last but not least, the service here was excellent and efficient. I would definitely come back here the next time I visit Brooklyn as there were many dishes on the menu I wanted to try!

This place is super popular and I get why. It was packed but the service was insanely quick and efficient, which I appreciated. We shared the chirashi (9/10) and a spicy tuna roll (7/10) and it was honestly more than enough food for both of us. The sashimi is chef's choice so you're getting whatever's freshest that day. Overall, the quality was excellent. A couple of pieces were a little on the flavorless side, but nothing that ruined the experience. I'd still give it a solid 9/10 and would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

Food: 3/5 I'm a huge sushi fan, so I was excited when I saw a deluxe sashimi set on the menu. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The scallop was thinly sliced and lacked the rich texture I was hoping for. The salmon and other cuts were decent, but short and oddly shaped--chunky yet small, which made the whole presentation feel a bit off for something labeled deluxe. We also tried to branch out and ordered the short rib entree. For $21, it was shockingly small--definitely a single-person portion, not sharable. I added extra ikura to a salmon donburi bowl for $2, but it was barely a teaspoon's worth--just enough to say it was there. Oddly, the salmon slices in that bowl were thinner than the sashimi we had just eaten, and overall, it left me still hungry even after sharing a maki roll. Lastly, my husband ordered a green salad, which somehow took the entire meal service to arrive. When it finally came, it was just plain romaine, cucumbers, radish, and dressing. For a dinner that clocked in at over $150 (after tip), we definitely left underwhelmed. Service: 3/5 This part wasn't bad, just confusing. We were seated quickly, but the pacing of the meal was strange. Our seaweed salad and soups came out promptly, but the green salad came last, after the hot dishes and nearly after my husband finished eating. Also, a small thing--but when I'm paying $16 for four oysters, I want to know what kind they are. The menu just said "West Coast oysters," but our server couldn't tell us the variety or origin. Not a huge deal, but it added to a general lack of polish that didn't quite match the pricing. I don't think I'd return. For the price, there are better sushi options in Brooklyn with higher quality, better portions, and clearer service. Still, I appreciate new spots opening up in the neighborhood, and I'm always happy to try something new. Hopefully they refine the menu and service with time.

Lots of people came in and out for takeout orders so that seems to be more of the target audience. Service was quick and polite, we were there until 9:30 and they definitely seemed ready for us to be out of there before the 10PM closing time. As for the specialty rolls, there were some pretty creative options - don't shy away from seemingly odd combinations because the flavors really do work well together. I appreciated the rice:fish ratio on all the rolls, the rice was a thin layer letting the flavor of the other ingredients really come through. The plain spicy tuna roll on the other hand was filled with spicy tuna mixed with something crunchy - maybe puffed rice? It seemed to be an unnecessary filler, I would have preferred just fish. I enjoyed the Lovers Dream and Golden Sunset roll the most. While I was debating it while ordering, in hindsight I would definitely get two rolls per person, maybe more if you're really hungry.

I saw the strong Yelp reviews and decided to take the leap with a pickup order. We ordered two specialty rolls and a spicy tuna roll. The restaurant itself is smaller than I expected, so I'm glad we opted for takeout. The staff was super friendly, and we only waited a few minutes while they completed our order. The Mystic Dragon roll was the standout for me-absolutely delicious. It had a variety of textures that gave it a great mouthfeel. I think this was my favorite of the three. All the flavors complemented each other beautifully. The strawberry sauce was unexpected but surprisingly worked! I love unique flavor combinations, and this one did not disappoint. The Torched King roll was also excellent. Salmon is my go-to for sushi, and the light torching gave it a subtle smoky flavor that I loved. The yuzu chili sauce added a nice kick--really flavorful and well-balanced. The Spicy Tuna roll was a classic and, of course, delicious. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.
