Croquetas Cremosas, shrimp, and Tabla de queso

Great spot for an intimate meal. The menu is short but tight and has a lot of classics plus some specialties. I recommend their Manhattan, which uses Mezcal. The smokiness is really unique and tasty. I was less enthused by my wine, but I only have myself to blame since I didn't ask for recommendations based on the long list they had. Everything we got was good, though I strongly recommend the mushrooms. Yup, they were the standout. The shrimp were good - maybe a smidgen over but tasty. They were nice about giving us extra bread for our cheese plate. It's a lovely space!

I visited GAUDir during a dinner event where 5-course dinner was served. The inside was not that big, but homey. The rustic red color against the wood and black ceiling made me think of old-time Spanish home or cellar. Intimate and romantic. We tried a couple of Gin based cocktails, and they were excellent. Not overly sweet, but refreshing and high quality. For food, we got to try Tuna Tartare, Chicken Confit Cannelloni, Chilen Sea Bass, Braised Veal Cheeks, and Apple Confit. They were all amazingly deicious! The flavor, quality, presentation, everything was perfect. We had a great time at this dinner event. The service was warm and inviting, drinks were excellent, and food was delicious. I have recommended other foodies to try this place, and they all loved it! Would definitely go back again for more tasty dishes.

Made a reservation for two and we're not disappointed. The space is quaint, non pretentious and guest centric with one very adept and engaging server and one very conscientious and meticulous Chef running the show. Jamón Ibérico, manchego, mahon, very flavorful and simply presented. Garbanzo and charred spinach, Churrasco cooked perfectly at rare/medium rare so tender and juicy. Our kind of place - great food and service. Did I mention without pretension?

Came her last night, with my wife for a birthday meal. We loved the atmosphere, fairly quiet, cozy spot. They have a table with a fireplace, and we were lucky enough to be able to grab it. I was somewhat surprised at the dearth of "tapas" on the menu, considering it was listed as a tapas restaurant. We kind of ignored it and moved on. We ordered from the Prix Fixe menu (Restaurant week), and the options were excellent. We both ordered the Seafood soup, "Pulpo al la Plancha" and of course the Chocolate pasteles. We added a "Patatas Brava" and "Pan con tomate" appetizers. The Patatas Brava, we're excellent, but unfortunately, that's where things dropped off, The Pan Con Tomate" was average and flavorless. When the Seafood/Saffron soup arrived, we were excited. It was well presented and included a large prawn, clams and mussels. The color of the broth was a nice rich Red (the Saffron). Unfortunately, it's was heavily salted, and the broth seemed weak considering the ingredients. The "Pulpo alla Plancha" was very very good. The octopus was perfectly cooked, and tender, just a little too salty (and I like salt). The dish came with mashed potatoes, which were a nice foil for the Octopus. I think my overall reaction is just disappointed. The food itself wasn't bad in any way, just salty, and in some instances the flavors were weak. I might have hit this place on an off night, so don't let my review dissuade you. The quality was there...just off.

Very solid food here! The pan con tomate and the croquetas were both amazing. We ordered tapas which definitely felt like the right style here. The spanish tortilla was good but not amazing, but overall definitely very happy with the meal.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! If you come to GAUDir, you'll learn that "gaudir" is Catalan for "to enjoy." The food here will bring nothing but joy and deliciousness. I came here with a friend on a Friday night after a long day at work. We started off with wine, Summer Little Gem Salad, which had burrata, anchovies, and balsamic dressing, and Pimientos de Padron, roasted shishito peppers and sea salt. I loved the burrata and thought it was the perfect salad for a hot, humid day. The pimientos were also good and came aplenty (we couldn't finish them all). Now for the main dishes... Those stole the show. My absolute favorite was the Pulpo a la Plancha--I love a good octopus. The grilled octopus was slightly crispy and chewy on the skin then perfectly tender inside. The truffle butter mashed potatoes, which came with the dish, didn't captivate me as much though since the octopus was the star! I also thoroughly enjoyed the Skate Wing; the beurre blanc was the ideal complement. I low key wanted to bathe in that sauce. The restaurant itself is pretty cozy with rustic vibes. It could be a cute date spot or a place to grab drinks with the girls. Come enjoy good food and the good life at GAUDir.

Excellent restaurant! Delicious food and great service too. There is a nice patio area that's pretty secluded and makes for a great night out! Highlights for me include the escalivada (Roasted Eggplant, Red Pepper, Onion, Fresh Herbs Olive Oil, Cumin Yogurt). The dish was very fresh and so flavorful! The octopus was also great--perfectly chewy and seasoned and served with great chickpeas too. The seafood paella was very good too. The food is full of flavor! I'd recommend ordering one of the arroces dishes (minimum two order) and then one extra dish per person at least. GAUDir shouldn't be missed and will be a highlight for you during these times!

Great ambience and experience that momentarily transported me back to Spain. Gin n tonic was very refreshing and a generous amount. Croquettes were tasty, although we preferred the chorizo over the ham (the order included both). The octopus was perfectly tender and delicious. The meat paella was generously portioned with a good amount of protein and the rice was packed with flavor and perfectly cooked with a little bit of char. The flourless chocolate cake was the most moist one I've ever had. Our waitress pretty much ran the whole place by herself (bartending, food, etc) and she was phenomenal. Overall, amazing place for tapas and I would go back.

Congratulations, GAUDIR! This Catalonian tapas restaurant in Easr Harlem used to have a Monday-only schedule and merely shared a space with another restaurant but now they have their own space and are open all week long! My favorite was a generous serving of garlicky squid-ink fideua that's worth breaking any diet. And the setas are like bombs exploding with flavor! The servers, although it's just the two of them, managed the entire place quite well. Thank you for even lending us your umbrella. We'll be back for your paella!

Fideua - not enough protein but packed with flavor. Yum!
    Joanna K.

This is a solid Spanish place! We ordered the cheese board (tabla de queso I think) and that was mediocre but the Charred Lemon gin and tonic was fabulous - so unique and refreshing. Sangria was good too. Highlight of the meal was the Fideua - so flavorful and sinful! Get this if you love garlic and squid - they're all throughout the noodles. Only bad thing is that it doesn't have much protein as I expected. We had 3 shrimps and morsels of squid in the noodles each, which was disappointing. Ordered the churros for dessert - homemade but flavor-wise very disappointing. I wish we ordered the tapas but the paella was more than enough for 2 people. Wouldn't come running back but solid spot for drinks and paella.

It is our second time visiting this Spanish tapa restaurant in East Harlem. Having been to many tapas restaurants in New York City and to Spain 3 times, we must say this must be one of the top 10, if not 5 in NYC. We have had the seafood Paella, shrimp, burrata salad, Fideo. The food is cooked to perfection, well seasoned and well thought out! The staff is friendly. Definitely check out this gem.

Excellent excellent excellent. Barely another word describes it. Went with my Godfamily and some friends for our annual group dinner; we've eaten at a number of top-rated NYC restaurants (i.e. Dirty French, Baar Baar) over the years as an end-of-year blowout and we have very high expectations. This place did not disappoint with regard to service, food quality, and atmosphere. The only place where I might've taken a half-star off would be price since it seems a bit high for the area but 1. lemme check myself because why can't East Harlem have high-class fine dining at a sustainable price for the business and 2. I maybe should've just budgeted better. To boot, we happened to be the only party there that night and they doubled-up on a few of our orders just because they were feeling nice. We ordered several tapas to start; the croquetas were a standout star! Each was an experience that moved from crispy home-snack goodness, to creamy decadence, and finally into smokey depths of flavor. The meat-eaters in our group almost didn't save enough of the Setas a la Vasca (Basque-style mushrooms) for the veg-centric folks, they were also fantastic. My girlfriend in Seville typically doesn't have a taste for northern food, which this restaurant serves up almost exclusively. After looking at photos of the paella de montaña and fideuá that I sent however, she bemoaned the fact that she wasn't here to savor it with me. Alas, #longdistance. If you think they look good in the attached photos, you have no idea just how damn good these dishes are. A four-person size would've actually been fine for our party of 8, but you'll definitely want to at least try these two (maybe as 2 two-person sized orders). That socarrat.... God. Finally, out came the deserts. I've spent a decent amount of time writing this already so I'll just say do yourself a favor and order the Goat Cheese and Strawberry (although that night it was served with apples; still an almost bar-none desert). That's it! Buen provecho.

The restaurant door was open so it felt airy and had the ambience of an outdoor cafe. The service was quick and attentive. I ordered the carbonnade flamande, which is a beef stew made with Belgian beer. My friend ordered the Moules Frites. Normally I'd get the Moules Frites as well but I wanted to vary it up since I had seafood for takeout the night before. This was my first time having this beef dish. You could taste the beer in the beef stew but it wasn't too overpowering. Felt almost like a goulash. I was hoping for something with a bit more seasoning but overall, it was ok. The dish came with frites too which I was excited to try. They were crispy yet soft on the inside. I like my fries a little more skinny and crispy but these went well with the beef gravy on the side. Overall, the evening was pleasant but the food wasn't the best Belgian I've had, about a 3/5 for me. Just so so. Also, as a side note - They really need to work on their bathroom situation. The queue was really long for one stall and people were lined up the whole time we were there.

Located in East Harlem, the subway took me to 103rd Street. A steep hill fortified my appetite. Cafe D'Anvers is easy to spot with it's inviting red exterior. Laura was at the table. Jackie greeted us cheerfully. We came here for Moules Frites which we ordered and a glass of Sancerre to wash it down. Two large kettles were put down in front of us with plenty of mussels and a separate bowl of fries. Mayo and ketchup to dip the fries. I prefer mayo. We ate our way enjoying the meal. Dessert was vanilla ice cream with a sour cherry sauce and their signature chocolate mousse with strawberries and puffs of whipped cream. Both desserts satisfied immense. I recognized the mousse cups as I had bought them at Eataly. Jackie told us that they make the mousse and have an account with Eataly to sell it there. Laura and I enjoyed our lunch here. I also spied Jo Malone hand wash of English Pear and Freesia in the gender neutral restroom. Cafe D'Anvers is a cozy restaurant with both seating and a bar area. I am looking forward to another meal here.

For instance, the pistachio crusted salmon is $28 online which is a good deal for the area and $38 there which is a bit much among other dishes. There are also missing things from the online menu such as the grilled octopus. Anyway, I was here recently at this pretty new restaurant with a small group of 5 others. The menu online is listed as Mediterranean and Italian but I found more stuff on here to be Italian and in general, there's a lot of seafood on the menu. I am quite aware how new this spot is because I was (rather unfortunately) at a prior cafe at the same exact location called Atelier which was Middle Eastern and French influenced which was absolutely terrible but luckily this place is much better. There is ample rooms between the different tables and the lighting is nice. The music, or rather muzak, are covers of songs which don't really fit here such as Despacito (I can't believe I heard this at a Yorkville place) but at least the volume was low. The service was a tad slow and didn't pay attention well enough but I presume some of this will improve as the place has been here longer and I'm not surprised how long the meal lasted because it's Yorkville/the UES. They gave us several types of bread to munch on with a couple pieces on each side not matching and there are bottles of olive oil. The best of the breads were the grissini/breadsticks and there was a piece of olive bread which was pretty tasty also but all of them were good. I went with a special of the day as my appetizer which was the Soft Polenta with mixed vegetables and tomato sauce for $24. This was pretty pricey but the portion size was probably big enough for two to share. The polenta texture was fine and warm while the vegetables (zucchini, carrot, eggplant, tomatoes, some other stuff) was much hotter on top which was a bit odd. I wish that there was more of said vegetables because this was the best part of it with the tomato sauce being quite nice. Another person had two appetizers as their meal and enjoyed the Fritto Misto as well as the Eggplant Napoleon. My main dish was the Pistachio Crusted Salmon which is listed online as $28 with citric fennel and butter. However, as said, the actual menu version is an extra $10 more and has a lemon-capers vin blanc sauce instead along with sweet potato puree and asparagus. I have no complaints about the protein as the salmon was good quality, they gave a pretty decent portion, and it was cooked very nicely with me personally having ordered it as rare and it coming out as such being fork tender and quite buttery. My issue instead of the fish was the pistachios as while the dish was listed as crusted, the pistachio flavor was almost muted being more of a topping than a crust which was unfortunate. The asparagus below were fine and the puree which took up the majority of the plate had a good texture and the flavor was fine. Overall, the dish was good but not almost $40 good. Another person had the Spaghetti Special with cherry tomatoes, calamari, and fra diavlo sauce for $42 (also available with shrimp instead for $36 on the main menu) which they enjoyed, one person had the Fettuccine Bolognese, and another person split the same salmon dish with someone else along with I believe the whole Mediterranean Branzino which they enjoyed. For dessert, another person ordered the chocolate cake at the end for us to share which which was a good portion but unfortunately was a bit dry with another person at the table saying that was probably a bit old. I was happy that it wasn't too sweet though I did find it dry with the crust at the end being the best part as it had a good texture. From the completely different price points and menu to the service woes to the minor issues with dishes, it's hard for me to give this spot a higher rating. The chef clearly knows how to cook everything perfectly but the little faults add up. Mid 3 lowered.

This restaurant was empty with one table being used when I came as I came around 10am so it was still early. But the decor in this restaurant is very pretty and elegant. They have a back area with more tables and chairs and a nice looking bar area. Will I come back and try something else for either lunch or dinner or to have a drink? well maybe. I asked after some minutes to sit at the bar to write for a while. I observed, and told them that no one had sat at that small table. I know they need restaurant seats. I would have sat for about half an hour, an hour the most, and moved (after half an hour) if it had been the only table left and dinner customers were waiting. I had finished eating. The man, maybe the owner, said that it is not a SHELTER. He said they were different businesses. They had not told me that earlier. So build a wall between them! I will not return, or even buy a coffee again from there, or suggest it to anyone. You know how often restaurants close.
