What an absolutely fun night at Alison's in East Harlem, NYC, with 3 friends to eat good food in a quaint atmosphere to catch up. We hit it at exactly the right time on Sunday, 6pm, before it got too busy. We had oysters, buffalo wings and cauliflower for apps. The oysters were a stand out and the cauliflower got devoured in seconds! We had 5 prosecco's between us and it was absolutely delicious. For mains we had the beef burger and salmon burger, arugula and manchengo cheese salad and a salmon and rice bowl. Each of us enjoyed our meals and vowed to come back again to try other menu items. We shared a warm waffle with ice cream and Nutella for desert that was sublime. So delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our server, Mark, who checked on us a lot and was very congenial. The timing of our food coming out was also perfect. Be aware that there is a credit card service fee of 3%. In this economy I guess we'll see more of that. But for a small restaurant with excellent service, it was worth it!
I came here for a late Saturday brunch on a holiday weekend. There were only a few other patrons. We had a stroller with us and they were kind enough to put two tables together for our party so that we could sit at a table with booth seating, with room for the stroller on the side. The restaurant is relatively small with not many more than a dozen tables. It's cute, with subtly whimsy decor. To eat, I had the avocado toast. I was a bit hesitant about the beet puree because I thought it would be sweet and chalky, but it was actually salty and creamy and paired nicely with the avocado. The toast was not super thick and the poached egg was small, but it was tasty and the perfect portion size. I liked the lemon vinaigrette on the side salad. My father in-law got the buffalo shrimp and said the shrimp tasted very fresh. The Old Bay fries were a huge hit with the whole family. The accompanying aioli was creamy and delicious. My husband got the fried chicken sandwich and it came with two large stacked pieces of chicken, so it was quite filling. I also ordered a grapefruit juice, which was perfectly tart. For dessert, we had the apple tart. It was a bit small, but had a nice amount of sweetness and buttery crust. Our waitress was friendly. I'd recommend a visit!
Favorite neighborhood spot. Can't miss the oyster/ wing Sundays! I love sitting outdoors when it's warm out. Service is always good, the new people meh.. Mark is great, he is attentive and always on the mark literally. Worth the visit every single time.
Such a chic cafe tucked behind a little covered outdoor seating. Fresh made-to-order menu with bright flavors. My partner and I enjoyed the chicken pesto sandwich. A little balsamic would be a great addition. It was busy and Vladimir managed everything alone and remained totally calm.
Had a wonderful team lunch at Alison. It gave casual french cafe vibes. They were so accommodating to our large party. The food looked and tasted delicious. I arrived little late to lunch, but managed to get a good serving of the appetizers, calamari and hummus & pita bread. I simply wanted more from the few bites I got. Crispy yet soft the calamari had my heart and serving the pita warm was a nice touch. They were great at replenishing the pita with the generous amount of hummus we received. My main course was the chicken schitnzel with mash. It tasted nice and was seasoned well. I did feel the chicken dried out a bit so a heavier sauce would help out. Overall a 10/10.
Lovely space with such cute decor. Food was also super yummy with many traditional dinette options. Service was a little delayed and slow, I believe due to the server to the number of people. But overall attentive.
Great spot near the Museum of the City of New York. Casual spot with inviting atmosphere. We were there at brunch time so there were some couples with young kids. Sat outside which was nice. Super waitress! My friend had an omelette which she loved and I had a delicious farro salad. Would definitely go back if I were in the neighborhood.
What a delight find! When we entered the staff was welcoming and the ambiance was as well. The musical vibe is old-school R&B, which during brunch is the perfect accompaniment. The menu offers a nice selection of food, including vegetarian options that you can add a protein to if you desire. We ordered a vegetarian flower bowl, one with chicken and the chilaquiles and all were incredibly tasty. The Chilaquiles are quite spicy so if you are not a fan of spicy food, you will not enjoy the green salsa. However, I found it to be delicious and tasty on top of the spice. I will be adding this to my places that I eat at every time I come to New York because this was an overall fantastic experience
I stopped by Alison because it was within walking distance of Mount Sinai, which made it super convenient. The spot serves American-style food and has a relaxed, casual vibe. Mark was our bartender, and he was fantastic, super friendly and knowledgeable. He walked us through the menu, which doesn't offer a full liquor selection, just beer and wine, but he made great recommendations. They have a happy hour from 12-7pm which was a nice bonus. The Old Bay fries, chicken wings, and chicken sliders were definitely worth trying--seasoned well and great for sharing. Just a heads-up: the wings and sliders are sold individually, so plan your order accordingly. I also tried the salmon burger, which I wanted to like, but it was a bit too soft and could've used more seasoning. That said, the overall experience was great, good food, excellent service, and a solid spot if you're in the area. I'd come back again, especially for happy hour and chicken sliders!!
I'm coming back! It's such a welcoming restaurant, love the decor, very well lit. What really got me was the hospitality, how they checked up on you, gave you an estimate time of your food. And then when the food came....it was delicious and fresh ingredients. My friend had the salmon over coconut rice, which I didn't take a picture of, so flavorful. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the skin,oh my goodness I was in heaven. Definitely coming back to the Harlem location....thank you two gentlemen, that ran the restaurant on point.
I will be reviewing this venue for two different visits this month. My first visit this month was on one of my Summer Fridays, where I only worked until noon. I arrived uptown and decided to go have lunch. I looked at the menu and this restaurant had a great lunch special. The lunch specials are any sandwich with a soup or salad for $18.50. When I arrived, there were about 10 people in the restaurant. There is a sign that informs you to wait to be seated. I was seated and the sever Marc took my order. I went with the Grilled Salmon sandwich with a salad. Marc was nice, attentive, and very helpful. The salad I chose was the Manchego & Arugula salad. The salad came out before the sandwich. It was sweet, nutty, and delicious. My only suggestion for the salad is to be on a bigger plate because the salad was falling off as I ate it. The Grilled Salmon sandwich was delicious. I was there so long that happy hour started. I had the Hibiscus Mule drink on the suggestion of Marc. I never had Hibiscus before. It was a great suggestion because the drink was delicious. My lunch experience went very well. My second time visiting the venue this month was for Happy hour this past Friday. When I arrived, I entered and waited to be seated. I was asked by a lady, where do I want to sit. I informed her that I wanted to sit at a table. I ordered the Narragansett Lager, 2 lamb sliders, old bay fries, and the Shimp Baja tacos. The customer service I received during this visit was so different from my previous experience. I don't remember my server saying hello or his name. I had to flag him down if I needed something. It was the same number of guests as the last time I was there, 10 people. I realized when I ordered the lamb sliders I didn't ask how they are traditionally cooked. Nate, whose name I know from the receipt mentioned that the sliders are made medium or medium well and they come out a little pink. When I received my sliders, they were well done. Once I received my food he didn't check in on me. I had to flag him down for some ketchup. He checked in on me about 20 minutes later. When it was time to pay, I was planning to leave an 18% tip due to the service. However, the machine started at 20% for the tip.
Rustic vibes and very snug cozy seating area when it's packed for brunch. we got steak and eggs which was fantastic. the mayo potatoes did throw me off. and got the crispy chicken sandwich with old bay fries. the french fries were top tier however the sandwich was sloppy the breading didn't really stick and it was all over the place. i had better chicken sandwiches and it was not a good pick in my opinion. the chimmicurri was fantastic on the steak the service was kind and on point. i don't think i'll come back here but it's worth a try to check out if you're in the area B+ 7/10
Brunch = Alison! Such a wonderful and charming place! My boyfriend and I live in East Harlem and decided to check out Alison for Sunday brunch and we were not disappointed. The Vibes at Alison are immaculate! From the old brick to the funky neon sign in the window this place slaps! We had reserved a table and ran a little late, however, we were greeted and sat immediately just the same. The service was fantastic across the board! The server came to our table a few minutes after we were sat to take our drink order, I had the champagne, while my boyfriend had the ice-coffee (champagne was fantastic, the coffee was not good). From there we placed our order and here is what we had: - French fries (so good! Fried to protection) - smoke salmon toast (my boyfriend said that he cannot stop thinking about how good this dish was!) - Chilaquiles (so spicy! But delicious, I would definitely order this dish again!) I would rate Alison one of the best brunch spots I have been to in a while! Thanks for a great start to my Sunday.

I just wanted some crispy rice and tuna and honestly, this was just not my favorite. The restaurant has a rustic feel and casual atmosphere. Many people come here for the wine. I did not come to actually sit and dine so I cannot comment on the service, but, the hostess that greeted me and took my to go order was very nice and professional. On to the actual reason I came here. First, it was very saucy. Way too much sauce for my liking. I'm secretly a purist when it comes to crispy rice and tuna, so I really just wanted that simple salty flavor, maybe a little soy sauce glaze, and to actually taste the tuna and crispy rice. Instead, the sauce kind of took over everything. I actually picked up some dried seaweed to add because I didn't really enjoy it on its own. And the crispy rice? It was crispy on the outside, but pretty soft and fluffy on the inside. I personally like my crispy rice, crispy. Specially firmer and crunchier throughout. If you like a softer center, you might actually enjoy the texture, but it wasn't what I was looking for. As far as price, I paid about $17 dollars, which is alot for 4 pieces of lack luster crispy rice. Overall, it wasn't horrible, but it just wasn't hitting the way I wanted it to, especiallyfor the price. I needed less sauce, more salt, and crunchier rice. read more

I was in the area after an appointment so I decided to come here for Happy Hour. The menu looked good and I decided to give Alison a try. The initial greeting by the hostess (I am not sure if this was her actual position) was lackluster and left much to be desired. Even as I left, I wasn't thanked for coming or wished well from this same individual. I only mention this because she was at the door both when I entered and left so I expected some type of greeting/farewell. I ended up sitting at the bar and the bartender was amazing. She had great energy and gave solid recommendations. I ended up going with the buffalo wings and old bay fries off the happy hour menu and the calamari off the standard menu. I was a little nervous about the old bay fries but they were great and the aioli it came with was 10/10. The calamari was fried nicely and had just enough seasoning to not be bland. The wings were pretty good and the amount of sauce was spot on. I ordered a hibiscus mule for my drink and it was balanced and refreshing. If I was in the area, I would come back because the food and drinks were good. Hopefully I have a better experience next time. read more

This is one of my favorite spots when I come to the city now. I've tried different foods on the happy hour menu, but I'm a french fry girlie so I will always recommend those. Alison has some great fries. What I really loved was the rose I had, a french one by the glass. My second time there I had wanted to try out the Slovenian one but they were out, so I went with the one that was amazing the first time, the Côté Mas Rosé Aurore. I love a rosé that isn't too dry, or sweet, or acidic. I hate a vinegar aftertaste. This one is smooth, crisp, refreshing, and full bodied, but not sweet, I absolutely love it. Dim, soft lighting melts cortisol and gives a really mellow vibe, Looking forward to going back! read more
This spot is definitely a neighborhood gem and I've been many times. However my most recent visit has me a little concerned about the training in the kitchen. About a year ago, I dined with a friend at Allison and had an incredible experience that included a very delicious steak tartare. Unfortunately, I don't feel that's what we were served just the other day and it looks completely different. We also ordered the garlic shrimp. The shrimp came out piping hot and the garlic on top was room temp. There was a lack of seasoning or flavor to the shrimp outside of the garlic. I would highly recommend a kitchen staff training if this is what they believe presentation and preparation for steak tartare is. read more

Yummy The salmon was a little salty but the flavors were great and the beans complemented the fish well. The sauce on the Barramundi was excellent, it had the perfect amount of spice. We also had the croquettes and the Sunday oyster deal. Nice ambiance to the restaurant, plus a cute outdoor seating area. read more
Solid 4.5/5 weekend brunch spot! Only taking a bit off because they took awhile to open even though I made a reservation for when it opened. We were in a bit of a time crunch, but luckily the dishes came out quickly. I ordered a mimosa to go with it all. It was nice out so we sat outside, otherwise the indoor seating area was decorated chic and gave off European vibes. Friendly and efficient service overall. We ordered shakshuka and avocado toast- which was on the basic side- but I loved the touch of the beet humus and the shakshuka was so tomatoey-- we really enjoyed it!! I don't often find brunch spots to be stand out but I think this is worth a shoutout. Also, it's supposedly open more early than lots of brunch spot- at 10 am if you're interested. My friend and I found the prices to be reasonable given we're in the UES. read more

Gem of a spot in East Harlem for a cozy and elevated dinner. Loved the Alison burger and fresh oysters. Wine selection was great and there's a touch screen menu to view the wines by country. Service was A+!! Will gladly be back for their brunch and Happy Hour fare. read more

It is one of the best restaurants I have visited in a while, from the food, ambiance, and service. I suggest making a reservation on the weekends, as it can get busy. On the weekdays, you can risk walking in and always sit at the bar for dinner unless you are a larger party. They also have ample outdoor seating. This restaurant has something on the menu for everyone, with lots of vegetarian. I am not a vegetarian, so my partner and I chose to share a couple of the small/appetizer dishes. We had the Shrimp Aguachile ($21), which was paired with tortilla chips. This dish was bright and acidic, and the sauce covered in the plate was drinkable. We then had the Steak Tartare ($21), which was served with the lightest parmesan crackers. We then ordered the Crispy Sushi Rice ($16), which we order everywhere we see. Excellent as usual; you cannot go wrong with this dish. For dessert, we ordered the Coffee Flan ($10). A perfect end to a meal. This place is perfect for date night, dinner with friends, or a nightcap and dessert. They have a brunch on the weekend that I can't wait to try as well, but their dinner menu is what I will keep coming back for. read more

This place is so cute! Went for a date with my bf, would also be a good spot for catching up with girlfriends. Wine selection is expansive, food was delicious, they had craft beer. We had salmon ceviche (loved), steak salad (he said it was good but quality of his steak could have been better), fish tacos (loved, the tortilla was amazing). Table next to us had dessert that looked really good but we were too full. The restaurant had so many tables available and they really should be full. I think they opened during covid? But if this place were in the west village it would have been packed to the brim. read more
To start off I am a Non vaccinated human. I came in on a Thursday around 4:45pm asked for an outdoor seating and wasn't given any issue whatsoever. I hear it's better to make a reservation though! Happy hour from 3/6pm and the OYSTERS ARE FRESH MY GUY! I was pleasantly surprised with the HH sangria as well(tasty). So all in all food was great (lamb slider) and drinks as well. Make it your business to come here just to experience a new vibe in lower Harlem.. lol I have to call it that to make it feel like I did something for the culture Service was also very OK.. a smile wouldn't hurt thou read more

I always enjoy my time here and everyone who works here is not only welcoming but knowledgeable on the menu and pairing. They have a great happy hour, and it's a great place to come post work and decompress before it gets busier for the dinner service. On this visit I enjoyed the steak salad. It was well prepared, cooked to temp (these things matter) and the salad, simple (like I like it) came with caramelized onions, blue cheese tossed in balsamic vinaigrette. I also added an order of HH oysters... tasty and fresh per usual! read more
Always make a reservation in advance to get a good seat! Alison was a great cute brunch spot, we ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Eggs benedict. The Grilled Chicken sandwich was delicious, the fries were a little salty for my liking, but the sandwich came with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and onions. The eggs were nicely poached, and also ordered a glass of fresh orange juice which was nice to drink while I waited for my food. Would highly recommend this spot to someone looking for brunch in the area. They also have an outstanding drink menu but unfortunately was unable to try anything out this time around! Would highly recommend grabbing a drink to you guys! Interior was very cute and nice, offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Certain seating is only available to those who reserve in advance. Servers were very nice and amiable, would definitely recommend and come again. read more
