Went here for a friends birthday brunch. This place is a vibe. The FOH is perfect for a quick sit down and drink (if you can grab a spot). They have all sorts of baked goods and drinks to choose from! We had a table at the back to accommodate our party of 6. That's where the kitchen is and there is seating in front of the kitchen which I found pretty cool! There's a cozy table nook at the back too! The server was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. And when I smelled this delicious smell, she immediately knew it was the pancake and I was hooked! I ordered the sourdough pancake with a side of fruit and the hazelnut syrup on the side. It was delicious! The syrup was beyond tasty and I could drink that on its own if I could. Just wow. Two people at my table got the steak and the rest got the potato pancake which they all raved about and it looked equally as delicious if you're wanting something savoury. I also got the "gut" tea but the drinks I did see looked yummy. This place is doing some great stuff with food and I would come back for brunch again and even try out their dinner menu. For fusion food, the prices are what you'd expect in Toronto in 2026. Look no further if you're looking for a good brunch spot. The only downside is that the table size itself is a bit small but we managed! And they brought out their famous dessert for my friend's birthday making it extra special. This spot on College West is a must-go-to for Brunch. Note that you will experience a wait if you don't reserve in advance on the weekends. Please note I would actually give a 4.5*. It was a wonderful brunch - wonderful quality, great service and innovative options. The restaurant space is light and airy with a casual seating area in front for people who just want to grab a drink and a baked good. Wonderful fusion take on a bunch of brunch favorites. I tried the Breakfast poutine which has their signature beef bulgogi in it (not to be missed!). It was delicious. My friend had the Croque Madame which also has the beef bulgogi in it. Other options on the menu include a take on a KFC sandwich, pancakes and a standard breakfast. Coffees and other drinks are top notch. You just have to watch the team to see the care put into each item. They are also know for their varieties of Madeleines. The Sticky Toffee pudding one is sooo good but they also do scones and danishes, mostly some special of the day. We luckily got a table right away during weekend brunch time. We got the KFC sando, GG breakfast plate and shared a matcha latte. The sando was pretty good, I liked how they branded their own bread with the logo. Seriously very aesthetically pleasing. We opted for the garlic fries for an extra charge and I think it made a big difference. It was well tossed in the spices and paired well with the sando. Sando was good, nothing too fancy and was a good amount. The GG bfast place we found was okay, we were not a fan of the jeyuk sausage at all. Should have gotten bacon instead imo. Tables are a bit small and it is also a bit cramped too so watch your surroundings! Nice that the have a rack to hang your coats on the side. Atmosphere was nice and felt really intimate at night. The steak and tsukune were too salty. The fried rice was pretty good but the star of the show was the mochi potatoes - the texture is amazing. Service was very slow. I don't know that I'll be back for dinner but might come again to try their brunch which they're more well known for. read more

Great dining and cafe spot on the west end. I was drawn by their matcha drink - frozen matcha and added the vanilla foam on top. Certainly stands out as one of the unique matcha options in the city. I know their online website mentions brunch is only on Fridays and weekends but it's also on a Wednesday when I dropped by. I was really tempted by their display cabinet of madeleines as well! But I ended up choosing something more savoury, Honey Garlic Avo Toast (thick cut honey garlic brûléed brioche, smashed avocado, toasted walnuts, lemon vinagrette, arugula, poached egg, reggiano parmigiano, pickled shallots) for $21. It's a bit on the higher end for a zhuzhed up avo toast. Their GG French toasts are around the same price range while their chicken sando is cheaper at $16. So I'm guessing it's because of the housemade brioche bread. Service was friendly. Luckily it wasn't too busy so I was able to get some work and online meetings done while enjoying my food. Online reservations could be made in advance but you can also walk-in without one during mid week at around lunch at least when I was there. read more

Came to check out their frozen matcha, they were one of the first ones to do this in Toronto! Upon arriving, there is a brunch dining area near the back and a quick take out spot at the front with cute seating and tiny tables. Opted for both the strawberry frozen matcha with strawberry foam top and the regular matcha latte. I thought both were great, but the strawberry frozen matcha looked muddy when mixed, would look better if they layered it more carefully. I loved the front seating area with their tiny tables, I thought it was such a vibe. The front area also sells local goodies like jams and salts. Came here on thanksgiving for brunch and can I just say it was a great meal. I've been meaning to try this place for a while after hearing about it on social media. I can say that the food did not disappoint. We got the shrimp croquette, chicken burger, and sticky toffee cake and each one was a hit. I cannot stop thinking about the cake and I will definitely be back to eat it again. I will say that the portions are quite small so keep it in mind if you're expecting a large plate. The chicken burger was $21 for the burger alone and you had to add 4$ to have fries with it. Came here for dinner, but I wish I had come for brunch, instead. The service was really good, but the food was average at best. The cereal shrimp toast is basically a croquette. You can get something equally cripsy on the outside while soft on the inside for a fraction of the price elsewhere. The bavette is apparently a new item on their menu. We asked for medium, but got medium rare. Given this fact, I expected the meat to be even more tender, but nope. It was unfortunately very chewy. We also got the mochi pomme-dauphine. The mochi itself was delicious, but the dipping sauce that came with it was super boring. We ended up dipping all of the mochi in the bavette sauce to give them proper flavor. The worst part was the ambience. The sound proofing here is non-existent. I could barely hear the person sitting across from me, especially with how loud the music was playing. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and it is the only reason I'm giving this place any stars at all. Food came fast and our drinks were constantly refilled. You also get an adorable sticker of their mascot at the end. The highlight of the evening was the peach raspberry sparkling lemonade. With such an interesting fusion menu, welcoming atmosphere and great service, this place seems like it should be great. So not sure if this is about personal tastes, but I found it just ok. Stopped by for lunch and got a whole bunch of stuff: GG's Brioche, Cereal Shrimp Toast, Bibim Quinoa Salad, Owen's Sando, Matcha Pistachio Madeline, and a Yuzu Tonic. And consistently across all those, I found the taste to be just ok (and for some of them, pretty pricey for the portion sizes). It's like the flavours across the dishes were almost muted. Fusion cuisine can go one of two ways: accentuating the boldness of the differences, or tempering them down to the safer and more mellow version. This, for me at least, was the latter. Honestly one of the best brunches I've had in Toronto!! They offer a French-Korean fusion menu with lots of savory and sweet options, including interesting, yet simple, twists on classic brunch food. I got the GG's breakfast sando and it was delicious - the gochujang aioli took it to the next level! I also tried the sourdough pancake and I highly recommend if you're in the mood for a sweet but not overly sugary option. It's fluffy and crispy at the same time and topped with a hazelnut maple syrup that just brings it all together. Definitely check out their cafe at the front for delicious-looking pastries and more coffee & matcha (their strawberry matcha is amazing)! I will say, the one thing that I didn't love about the place is how busy and tightly packed it is. Sometimes, the servers would be squeezing between tables to get to people, which didn't seem comfortable. We were at Gateua Ghost to celebrate a birthday, enjoying their dinner menu. Making a reservation is recommended as the dinner crowd fills up very quickly. The staff was very attentive and it was suggested that 2 mains plus 2-3 small plates were great for a couple, so we went with the: smoked kimchi arancihi, cereal shrimp toast, GG's gai lan, and the GG's tsukune and korean spicy short rib as the mains. We also got the sticky madeleine toffee pudding for dessert. Everything tasted great and the staff was very attentive. In terms of kimchi flavours, it was a bit too light, but the other dishes were a great fusion. The arancini was quite light and needed more kimchi, the sauce was creamy, but could do with more kimchi. The tsukune was very herbally in flavourful and not salty. The madeleine was not too sweet and a perfect finish to the night. Their dinner menu does change throughout the season. We will keep an eye out for a reason to visit on a special occassion. read more

Plus the lukewarm service made it hard for me to give the benefit of doubt thus I've rounded my rating down to 3 stars. Upon entry, we were offered a coat check by the greeter. We ordered the Spicy Paloma (tequila, orange liqueur, lime, gochujang, grapefruit soda) and the Blueberry Matcha Highball (Japanese whiskey, matcha, blueberry, honey, soda). The spicy paloma was lovely and refreshing, but unfortunately there was a musty taste in the highball that I was not a fan of. The ingredients seemed forced and did not work well together, dispite the fact that I like each ingredient separately. For the small plates, we had the steak tartare which is more reminiscent of a Korean yukhoe (tartare) dish than a traditional French tartare. It was seasoned with gochujang, pickled pear, capers, chives and perilla oil which was pretty decent. The kimchi French onion soup was outstanding and had a burst of flavour that kept me coming back for more. The miso peanut roasted cabbage was my partner's favourite, topped with toasted almonds. The cabbage had an incredible umami infused into it through the 12-hour brining process. For the large plate, we had the steak and mochi pommes dauphine. The steak was good but nothing crazy; however, the mochi potatoes are definitely worth a try as they had the flavour and savoriness of fried potatoes, but the chewy texture and consistency of mochi! A couple of weeks ago, we were in the area and decided to pop into Gateau Ghost to grab a quick dessert. I wound up getting a chocolate-filled madeleine that was seriously tasty, so we figured we should come back to try their brunch. We should've quit while we were ahead. The meal got off to a promising start, though, as the Salted Caramel Flat White I ordered was really delicious. It had a really rich caramel flavor that was offset perfectly by the salt. The sweetness level was perfect, and I enjoyed the heck out of this beverage. For my main, I opted for the KFC Sando ("chicken thigh, soy honey garlic, cabbage, pickles, house mayo, parlsey powder") and I added the Parmesan & Herb Tossed Frites for an extra four bucks. It arrived a short time later and on initial inspection, the plate looked really promising. But my hopes were dashed as soon as I picked up the sandwich. The fried chicken inside was so small that it literally only took up half of the sandwich. There were, as a result, many, many bites that were just bread. It was very upsetting (and considering the $18 price tag, quite insulting too). (I've never had a fried chicken sandwich this puny before. In fact, I've been to plenty of places where the chicken was so plentiful that it was spilling out of the sandwich.) Adding insult to injury is the fact that nothing on my plate was hot. Heck, nothing was even warm. This is my number one pet peeve when it comes to dining out, and it was especially egregious here. The room-temperature sandwich was just okay, too. There was no crunch to the fried chicken and the whole thing was a little bland, but the bread was fresh-tasting at least. The fries were fine, but again, fries that aren't hot just aren't appealing. Hopefully they were just having an off day in the kitchen because my coffee was great. And that pastry I had eaten a week earlier was terrific. I doubt I'll stop into the restaurant again but I'd eat that madeleine anytime. read more

I can see why theres such a big hype for this place. I really enjoyed my time here. The food was kinda different from your typical eggs benny/ brunch places. We enjoyed every dish we ordered, service was also quick and friendly. Only down side was that everything was on the small side, portions, plates, tables, chairs and the space is tight/small as it gets extremely packed with people. It was so good, nothing really caught my eye on the menu and the server recommended it so I went with it (she was super nice but half way through she was done her shift so another server came to cover) The bulgogi was super moist and very flavourful, with potatoes mozzarella and gravy on a very hot skillet! I wouldn't recommend the steak, it just wasn't good because the sauce it came with didn't pair well with it. We ordered their famous shrimp toast but for some reason?? it didn't come, it was heading towards the end of the meal so we cancelled it, so that was disappointing. The ambiance is a super nice, the front is the cafe with a couple tables and at the back there is a lot of tables. whole restaurant has white interior. during the day the sunlight is nice. We got 2 madelines, biscoff and matcha. They had very interesting flavours. both were very good but the biscoff was way better!! There is street parking and 2 restrooms. Saw many post about this on social media and had to drop by. I didn't have high hopes because it's still just a brunch place. Many reviews said to order the shrimp but I couldn't justify ordering it because there's no sides and it's quite pricey compared to the breakfast plate. Got the jeyuk sausage with focaccia and gravy. Very shocked to see two small pieces of focaccia. Jeyuk was on the salt side but had some sweetness too, reminded me of Chinese sausage. The salad dressing was quite heavy but did help offset the salty sausage. The gravy didn't have much flavour. I'd recommend the scone and jam if you get the breakfast plate to get more bang for your buck. I got the sticky toffee pudding to go, it was very moist and surprisingly huge. The madeleine was also huge, it was the size of my hand! I thought it was a regular mini size madeleine, seems like I got a money worth. Solid brunch spot, but don't expect to be mindblown! I recommend the baked goods here. The front of the store is a bakery, and the back is a restaurant with an open kitchen. Servers are all friendly. Menu includes some Korean-French fusion items. We walked in on Sunday around 10:30am and we got to sit at the bar within 10 minutes. Table seating was close to 45 mins wait. We got the strawberry Danish, biscoff Madeleine, steak frites, ricotta French toast, and a strawberry matcha drink. The standout item for me was the Danish, it was generously topped with strawberry jam and fresh strawberry. The steak was not seared at all, and the fries were a little bland. The ricotta French toast was not too sweet, in fact it was on the savory side. The texture was perfect but the taste was nothing special. The biscoff madeleine was good. The food was so good, we ordered the Bulgogi Breakfast Poutine, the Croque Madame and the Cereal Shrimp Toast. We also ordered a vanilla latte and a hot chocolate to go with it! The parmesan & herb fries were a little salty but I like how they paired with my croque madame but out of the 3, I would say the Bulgogi Breakfast Poutine was the best - would definitely go back again just to have that. We also got the biscoff madeline, strawberry madeline, matcha strawberry cookie and the calamansi tart. PLEASE GET THE CALAMANSI TART! Came here for Sunday brunch at 1pm after joining their queue beforehand and biking over from the east end while we waited. There were 26 parties of 2 before us, and took about 2h before we were seated. Our favourites were the crispy and satisfying shrimp toast, and fluffy and buttery brioche. The poutine was fine, with the the gravy being our favourite part -- i wish there were real cheese curds and that the beef was a bit more tender but overall pretty filling between the two of us. If I could choose again I would probably have swapped out the poutine with their croquettes. Didnt get a chance to try our their desserts but they looked really yummy! Always very busy! Last time I came I was only able to get a drink to go- blueberry americano. Unfortunately that was a miss as the flavours didn't complement each other. I came back again to try the brunch. I got a regular Americano- big hit this time, very flavourful and my friend got a latte which was also very good. We shared the shrimp toast- so delicious and perfectly fried. The bulgogi poutine was good but I think there's better out there. Awesome spot to visit, walk-in only with a waitlist feature. Few things that knocked off a star: - As per my friend, black sesame oat cappuccino does not taste like any bit of black sesame. She said she thinks it's just the sprinkle of black sesame on top that gave it the very subtle/light taste - Jeyuk Sausage is flavourful but a bit salty for us - Same with Owen's Sando (pork shoulder), lots of flavour but on the saltier side Other than that, Cereal Shrimp Toast is a must order and the madeleines were great. Wow wow wow! This spot is sooo good!! I met my friend there around 10am for brunch. A fair bit from which to choose. I went with the iced matcha drink with blueberry which was very good. For the main. I chose the GG Breakfast plate, opting for scrambled eggs, the bacon and the scone with gravy!! Probably one of the best breakfasts out that I've had in awhile!! My girlfriends and I came to Gateau Ghost on a Sunday at 10AM, right as brunch opened. Tables quickly filled up throughout our meal, so I'd recommend getting here early if you don't want to wait! I ordered the Cereal Shrimp Toast - though small, this dish was absolutely delicious. I've never had anything quite like it, and I'm a sucker for savoury brunch items. I also enjoyed my Iced Blueberry Matcha Latte, and appreciated that the menu had some non-basic drink options. There is a wide assortment of pastries at the front, so after our meal, we ordered some madeleines. I was pleasantly surprised by the miso flavoured one. I got to visit them about a week into their grand opening and the atmosphere was so nice. It was definitely very busy but we were able to get a table just walking in. Service was nice and the decoration was just so cute. The brunch food was really good. Gateau Ghost is now one of my favourite brunch places for Asian inspired brunch. Their mushroom on crispy rice was by far my favourite dish. The crispy rice was such a unique twist and the mushroom had such a good umami punch. My partner got the KFC sando which had a super crispy but tender chicken between a soft brioche bun paired with crispy horseshoe string fries. We enjoyed both our dishes a lot. For the drinks we tried their matcha strawberry latte and black sesame oat latte. I enjoyed both of them. Not mind blowing but still really nice. Obviously we also had to try their Madeline, which is what they are known for. We got the lemon curd one. So maybe it's just me, but I wasn't a huge fan of the Madeline. I found it a bit dense for my taste. The sweetness was just right but I typically prefer my pastries more soft and fluffy in texture. They also had a huge variety of other sweets at the front but I didn't get a chance any other ones. Overall, I really enjoyed the brunch experience. Gateau Ghost located near College and Dovercourt offers pastries, coffee, and brunch (only on certain days/times). The owner, Jayden, used to have popups all over the city selling his unique madeleine creations. I was excited to know that he would finally have a brick and mortar location. The front of the cafe has some seating to enjoy your pastries and coffee where there are several tables as you walk further in the restaurant. At the counter the pastries are all laid our perfectly where you will definitely have a hard time choosing what to order! I've been to Gateau Ghost a few times, mainly just to grab coffee and a few pastries. I definitely always have hard time choosing which pastries or madeleines to get. Coffee is great every time and staff are friendly. Vibes are friendly and chill. Get the miso madeleine next time you go! - definitely unique and different (it has that sweet and savoury taste). Overall, great addition to the neighbourhood. Can't wait to return for more pastries and coffee where I also hope to try brunch one day. read more

This is my first time at this cafe/restaurant but I have had their madeleines before at an event. This time around I had their cereal shrimp toast with a side of fries. The shrimp toast had a crunchy crust and the shrimp was soft and juicy inside. I did find the crust a bit overcooked tho and wanted it to be more of a golden brown color. Also it tasted heavy for my liking which made me dip it into the ketchup more to balance the taste. An acidic element would be really good to add to the dish. For drinks, I had their iced vanilla latte which was good but nothing spectacular. It even reminded me of an instant iced coffee. The ambience was good, pretty and the service was above average. I would go back and try a different menu next time. read more

3.5/5. Been here twice now and the items that we enjoyed are the shrimp toast and KFC sandwich. The bulgogi croque madam is ok, but they should name it something else since it doesn't have the typical ingredients of this Sandwich like the cheese or sauce. Also the beef is too sweet. The Madeleines are what they're known for but it was dry, below average unfortunately. read more

Had brunch here with a group of friends. The menu consisted of fusion food - we all got something different to try. Everything was unique and tasty. Drinks were recommended to us, everything was good - the Campari love affair was a bit too strong for me. To each their own- some people love the strong alc. overall, it's a cute brunch spot. read more
