Consider me a new loyal (and enthusiastic) customer of Gassane Tailors! I have not had much luck with tailors in Austin, no matter the price point, but took a chance here just for three hems on pants - simple enough (but you'd be surprised). They clearly have no shortage of business yet were honest with their turnaround times, which is a rare experience for me. They double and triple checked I didn't need them sooner (sometimes there's urgency but in this case no), which I really appreciated. Other places have had too many broken promises but these folks were true to their word and very thoughtful. Great communication, great attention, outstanding work on my pants, (and insisted I try them back on to confirm, in case they needed to be further adjusted, which they didn't). I needed a bridesmaid dress fitted and between receiving it and needing it back I had 8 days. I had no second chances so I drove 40min here to have the gown fitted and it looked flawless. I had to have: the shoulder strap shortened, the bust taken in, side ruching pulled in, pressed at the neckline, and the hem take up shorter in the back than in the front to account for my pregnant belly. It was ready when promised, communication was excellent and it was well worth the $100 cost for peace of mind and reliable talent. I rarely need a tailor, but since I'm under 5'3" I do on occasion need some pants shortened (even petite ones - ugh!). Gassane is always fast and does a great job. I've had them hem denim and sweats material (activewear pants) and they do a fast, great job each time. They've been in business long enough that they used to make pants for LBJ, so here's hoping their son who I once encountered there is going to take over once his mom & dad finally eventually retire. Do NOT bring your wedding dress here for alterations. I brought my wedding dress in with one main request: I wanted straps built out of applique that I had purchased from my bridal salon. When I showed these to the tailor, she said that the flowers on the applique were too big and she could not make straps out of them. I was sad about this but we settled on moving the existing straps up my shoulder instead. I also requested a bustle, which the tailor said could not be made because it was going to raise my dress too much in the front. Lastly, the hem of the dress needed to be cut a few inches, which required some flowers on the hem of the dress to be moved up to the new hemline. When I went to pick up my dress, I was not a huge fan of the sleeves that she had made. I mentioned that they were not laying flat and were sticking up in odd places. She continuously brushed off my comments and said that that was "just how they looked" and did nothing to address my concerns. I paid $1000 for the alterations, which I thought was pretty hefty but I knew that moving the flowers was a lot of work. After sleeping on it for a few days, I decided that I was really not happy with the sleeves, so I called my bridal salon to get their opinion. The appliques that I purchased was made from lace that came from my dress, so they said that they knew with 100% certainty that straps could be made, and that that is why they suggested I purchase them. When I told them that the tailor I went to said it could not be done, they said it was probably just because she did not know how to do it. They then provided me with the name and number of a different tailor that they recommended. At my appointment with the new tailor, she said she could absolutely make straps with the applique and was shocked that I was told it was impossible. She also said a bustle could be done, and bustled the dress for me during the appointment to show me. She also said that the original tailor had cut the lining of my dress too short and now she needed to move some flowers around to fix it and cover my toes that were peeking out of the tulle. Lastly, she mentioned that my dress did not fit me well in the bust and needed to be brought in. I called Gassane Tailors to let them know that I was now paying an additional $1000 to do all of the things they said could not be done. Although the conversation was cordial, the tailor kept insisting that I should've brought the dress back to her to fix instead of taking it somewhere else. I reiterated multiple times that there was nothing for her to "fix" because she knew from the beginning what I wanted, and said it could not be done, so there was no point returning to her. Although in retrospect, I should've gotten a second opinion when she told me no, I trusted her professional opinion and assumed that she was correct. She also kept saying that all her alterations were based off what I wanted, and if something needed to be done, I should've said so (i.e. taking in the bust). However, I don't think it's the customer's job to tell the tailor everything that needs to be done, because she is the professional, not me. After airing out all of my grievances, all she said was "so what do you want me to do?" I was hoping she was going to offer a partial refund for the alterations that I paid for that are now being redone. However, she offered nothing and when I requested a partial refund she said no and that it was my fault I went somewhere else when I should've returned to her. She then told me to bring the dress back in so she can see what I'm talking about, but I told her that was not possible because it is not going to be done with the tailor until right before the wedding. Overall, I'm very disappointed with Gassane Tailors. After attending my new appointment, it's very evident to me that Gassane is not well-versed in wedding dress alterations. I wish she would've told me from the get-go that my requests were out of her wheelhouse so that I could've taken it somewhere with more wedding dress expertise. read more

Their work has been of the utmost professional. They have altered shirts, shorts, dress pants, jeans, and even t-shirts! It came out perfectly and instantly became my favorite suit to wear just because of how well it fit. With New Years coming up, I didn't hesitate to come back with my tuxedo and tuxedo shirt. I love these guys! They did an amazing job slimming down a Brooks Brothers Black Fleece suit for me. I had Brooks' own in-house tailors do work on other suits and the skill level isn't even comparable. They truly are master tailors. I was so happy with the results that I brought a second one in. I have never been more excited to write a Yelp review. I cannot recommend Gassane Tailors highly enough. Like most reviews, I have multiple examples in my mind of the top-notch customer service and highest quality care that Gassane gives to its clients and work, though I'll share just a few. In late November, I dropped off a formal evening gown and a tea dress to be hemmed. Joseph, the wonderful man who has taken care of all my alterations since I found Gassane, was overjoyed to see me back again. When I realized that I had forgotten my high heels necessary to get the right length of the formal gown, I asked if I could stand on my tip-toes, since Gassane is relatively far from my Austin home. Joseph said of course, that would be fine, and he would do his best. When I explained that the tea dress was for my senior portraits, he asked how quickly I wanted everything ready. I asked for a week, hoping that it would be a reasonable amount of time for two nice dresses to be fixed. He said, "I can do as early as [two days from now]." For no extra charge, he would have had both items ready in two days. And from the other customers who continually filed in and out to pick up their items, Gassane was as busy as always -- quick and exceptional alterations are just the standard to which they hold themselves. When I returned to pick up the dresses, the tea dress was perfect (as usual), though the evening gown was still too long. This was because I'd forgotten my high heels, so Joseph wasn't able to get an accurate picture of how much to hem it. Instead of being frustrated that it would now take more time to fix, he smiled and said it would be easy to improve. He wouldn't even let me pay for the tea dress, which I took home with me that day, until the other was ready! MONTHS later, after I moved across the country to California, I realized I had forgotten to pick up my evening gown. I called Gasane today to apologize and ask if I could pay for it over the phone and have a friend pick it up. Before he identified my voice or the dress, he just looked quickly around the shop, repeating into the phone, "Yes ma'am, I am more than happy to. More than happy, yes, of course." When I asked if I was speaking with Joseph and used my full name, and when he found the dress, he laughed out loud and said how happy he was that I had called and thanked me for my business! He said that he would be happy to meet someone anytime to pick up the dress and that he hoped I would stop into the shop to say hello when I visit Austin. I have never, in my life, found another person or business so dedicated to customer care. At every visit, Joseph made me feel comfortable, validated, and that my clothes were safe in his hands. Despite the constant flow of customers and a full waiting area, Joseph never made me feel rushed. He never questioned my requests. He was always ecstatic to take care of me (and every single other customer I observed in the shop), very fast with service, and high-quality work. My only regret about moving to California is that Joseph is not here to fix my clothes. I will miss his work and personality dearly. I cannot recommend him highly enough. read more
