We stopped by Gaskins randomly for dinner after a recommendation, and were lucky enough to get a spot immediately. Everything about it blew us away -- food was amazing. I can't remember exactly what we got, but the entrées were incredible! I would skip on the bone broth though. It was also the cutest restaurants and seemed perfect for a special occasion or date night. Our server was the loveliest human as well, and really made us feel comfortable and cared for throughout the experience. Highly recommend!

Came here for a birthday dinner of 6. I love how the menu changes seasonally and that they use local ingredients. I thought it was a cool concept. The halibut was absolutely amazing. Very fresh and well seasoned without needing a lot of salt. Definitely one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. The strawberry and blue cheese salad was good too, and I'm not usually a blue cheese fan. The desserts were good but not mindblowing, a bit overpriced. The staff gave us free ice cream as a surprise. Our server was very nice.

We were visiting Hudson Valley for the week, and heard good things about Gaskins, so we made a reservation and came here on a Thursday night. We booked a couple days before on Resy, and they only had a 5:15pm available. There is limited outdoor dining space. They have a good COVID distancing set up, with two tables for each party; one table is reserved slowly for setting down plates from the staff and leaving empty plates for them to pick up. We ordered two appetizers and two main dishes each. The appetizers came out at the same time. We shared the peach and tomato salad, and the crab cakes. The peach and tomato salad was refreshing and great to have on this hot day. The crab cakes were also made really well. My husband enjoyed his burger, and my charred broccolini was simple, but good. Would recommend this place for a great meal in Hudson Valley area.

Great experience here. The restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere and serves elevated, really well-executed comfort food. Basically everything you'd want from a neighborhood restaurant. Would highly recommend visiting for anyone visiting this part of the Hudson Valley. Everything was great but the Eggplant Agrodolce and the Bluefish were the standouts.

Overall, I enjoyed our experience. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. I do recommend the Burrata and Fried Corn as appetizers because it was delicious! Our server was very kind and the restaurant looks nice. In contrast, however, the dessert was not of the highest quality. We shared the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake and it was not good The cake was super dry and the rosemary frost was very strong. I'd love to visit again.

The cornbread, shishito peppers, and shrimp tacos

A delicious welcome. This place knows what good food is. I've never had such good corn bread: in fact I've never had cornbread that had ACTUAL corn in it. The shishito peppers and shrimp tacos were also phenomenal. For my main, I went with the curried beef and was not disappointed. When the waitress said the meat falls apart she meant it. The flavor was explosive and the rice was crispy. I can't figure out how they made zucchini taste so good! My mom had the scallops and my husband had the tuna; I got to try both and "perfect" is not enough to describe them. Lastly we shared the cobbler, and wow, what a grand finale. Can't wait to come back when covid is over so that we can see the inside which I have no doubt is spectacular.

Located in the Main Street/Partition Street corridor, there is a cool downtown vibe. Street parking and a Public Lot nearby make for easy access. I got the Egs Benny and it was served with amazing potatoes and a light and tasty salad. Eggs were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Waitress was attentive and accommodating. I also ordered a Bloody Mary and a local craft beer because I could. The Bloody was decent, not mind blowing but still tasty. Oh and I ordered a dozen oysters while I was at it. They were of the small variety but tender, clean and amazing. Prices were reasonable to the area. Definitely will be back. No photos this time, sorry.

Walking in we were seated promptly though we immediately noticed that the interior was extremely dark. Not a big deal but worth flagging for older folks who might have a hard time reading. Our server was friendly and relatively attentive and walked us through the menu. We started off with some classics including their bread and butter (which was tasty and delicious) and ordered their P.E.I Mussels ($19) along with their Fried Brussels Sprouts ($15) to share. The portions were quite large for everything (great if you're in a larger party) but we immediately noticed that the mussels they served seemed a bit off. Many of them were not opened all the way (a sign that they might not be the freshest or recently passed) and had a bit of a fishy taste to them. We ended up not finishing them and flagged them to our waiter. The other items, including the 14oz Ribeye ($43) and baby back ribs ($28) were better, though a bit one-note. The bay back ribs in particular were extremely saucy and the corn bread was dry and a bit tough to eat. I had to use a knife to split it apart as it kept crumbling every time I used a fork. Regardless, it seems like a popular spot for a reason and perhaps we just went during more of an off-night. I'd still recommend checking it out but avoiding the mussels if you go.

We were not disappointed. We were seated promptly by our lovely hostess, and Shaun immediately came over to recite specials and to take our orders. He was attentive and we knew we were in good hands! We started with the Dr. Fox Cocktail: Angostura bitters, Bulleit Rye, Apple Liqueur, Dry Curacao, and Sweet Vermouth, which was perfect. It was accompanied by a hummus trio to spread on the bread. There was also a delicious foccacio. Next we were served a perfect salad, delicately dressed, and what made the salad so delightful was that the lettuce was torn into manageable pieces. A pet peeve of mine is large lettuce leaves that are difficult to wrangle, and this was not the case here. There were also tiny bits of cauliflower that gave the salad a nice texture and crunch.  I had the Stuffed Artichoke and my husband had Shrimp Gamberi on an Arugula salad. Both were substantial and beautifully seasoned. We had two glasses of an Argentine Tomero Malbec. It was a generous pour. For the main course, I had Polla al Limone (Lemon Chicken) over spinach. A simple dish done well. My husband had the Halibut special, a classic Mediterranean baked halibut with tomatoes, capers, and olives. So good that he finished it all...a rarity for him. (The halibut was pricey and it would be appreciated if the price was mentioned when the specials were gone over. Perhaps we should have asked.) We finished with a Sorbetto al Lampone, a tart raspberry sorbet in a dark chocolate shell and sliced.  And as we left, our sweet hostess brought over Lucianno, the most adorable puppy, to send us off with puppy kisses! We definitely will be back...especially for the wild boar ragu over pappadelles. One nitpicking observation. The entrance to the restaurant was a tad shabby. We mistook it for the service entrance. It needs to be spruced up to match the superb food inside!

Even though it is a classy setting with views of the dam in the outdoor seating area, they are also very family friendly. They have a kids menu and their drinks came with cute plastic cartoon straw cups. The $17 option comes with ice cream for the kids too. This place could have easily gotten 5 stars if the food wasn't all overly salty (even my kids didn't even eat their fries). It's a pity because everything was plated so beautifully. Their octopus appetizer was not fresh and their ahi tuna was overcooked. When our waiter took our order he didn't ask what our kids wanted to drink even though a drink came with the kids, and we were charged $4 for each when we ordered them drinks. They quickly corrected it when we pointed it out but we also had to remind them about the kids' ice cream (which they mixed up the kids' order too). They did waive the cake cutting fee as we had a party of 10. The only dish that was enjoyable was their roast chicken with black rice. Nevertheless, it is still a nice place to visit if you want a place to relax with a beautiful atmosphere and welcoming to families. The staff were all very friendly and kind.

We'll preface this review by saying that an experience this poor usually starts with ownership or…read moremanagement and trickles down to the staff. Who knows what the employees have to deal with on a day-to-day basis to result in service this bad. We were extremely disappointed with our experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff came across as rude and unwelcoming. We asked if we could sit at one of the tables closest to the waterfall, and the response was simply, "Well, it's dirty." Mind you, about 90% of the restaurant was empty. We expected something like, "No problem, give us a moment to clean it off." We're very easygoing and would have completely understood waiting a few minutes. Instead, that interaction set the tone for the rest of the meal. We even pitched in to help the bussing staff. When our waitress finally returned, she immediately said, "Oh, you don't have menus? You forgot them. I know I already gave them to you along with your place settings." Apparently it was a set-your-own-table experience. At that point, it almost felt like we were expected to bring our own service as well. The food quality was underwhelming--We've had better charcuterie on a plane--especially considering the prices. Several ingredients that were listed as part of the dishes were missing. When we asked the busser about it, she said she would check with the kitchen, but she never returned with an answer or any follow-up. Honestly, we would have expected the server to check back regardless, but other than taking our initial order, she never returned to our table, even when we tried to wave her over. So yes no one came back after our food was served to ask how everything was, whether we needed anything, or to address the missing ingredients. Once our order was delivered, we were completely forgotten. Good service means checking on your guests, addressing concerns, and making sure they're enjoying their meal. None of that happened during our visit. When we finally approached the manager, the first response was, "Well, did you eat any of the food?" Yes--we each had a couple of bites of the kale Caesar because we were starving, despite it being served without the advertised pork belly, which was the main ingredient. We had already tried to address our concerns in real time, but no one ever followed up. We're far from people who leave negative reviews. In fact, we think this is only the second bad restaurant review we've ever written. The experience was simply that disappointing. Overall, the combination of rude service, poor management, disappointing food quality, missing ingredients, and a complete lack of follow-through made for an incredibly frustrating dining experience. Unfortunately, we can't recommend this restaurant, and we won't be returning. The view is absolutely gorgeous, but you're better off grabbing a sandwich somewhere else and enjoying it from the nearby bridge.

However, as someone coming in from out of town, the experience wasn't entirely seamless; I found myself having to flag down staff just to get seated, which was a bit of an adjustment for a first-time guest. That said, the service was the highlight of my visit. My server was fantastic--attentive, polite, and genuinely made me feel welcome, as if I were one of their regulars. She really elevated the experience. As for the food, I kept it simple with the burger and fries. While it was a solid, standard meal that I would certainly eat again if I were in the area, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. Whether it was the texture of the bun or the quality of the beef, it felt a bit unremarkable. It's a perfectly fine spot for a regular, casual bite, but given the competition in the city, there's definitely room for them to sharpen up the menu. Heads up for the owner a stout on draft would be great you have 8 drafts & there're basically all the same.
