great views of the dam!
Linda L.

Came here to celebrate a birthday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Blackbarn Hudson Valley is a beautiful venue that has the potential to host weddings and great place for date nights and celebrations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even though it is a classy setting with views of the dam in the outdoor seating area, they are also very family friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a kids menu and their drinks came with cute plastic cartoon straw cups. The $17 option comes with ice cream for the kids too. This place could have easily gotten 5 stars if the food wasn't all overly salty (even my kids didn't even eat their fries). It's a pity because everything was plated so beautifully. Their octopus appetizer was not fresh and their ahi tuna was overcooked. When our waiter took our order he didn't ask what our kids wanted to drink even though a drink came with the kids, and we were charged $4 for each when we ordered them drinks. They quickly corrected it when we pointed it out but we also had to remind them about the kids' ice cream (which they mixed up the kids' order too). They did waive the cake cutting fee as we had a party of 10. The only dish that was enjoyable was their roast chicken with black rice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nevertheless, it is still a nice place to visit if you want a place to relax with a beautiful atmosphere and welcoming to families.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff were all very friendly and kind.

Pros: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful venue, amazing view of the little waterfall outside, great service from the staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you stay at the hotel you get a little voucher for a free wine for dinner or cocktail for brunch (per guest). I thought, wow what a great deal! It gets you in the door. Cons: Food. The meal fell short. Management didn't train staff on menu details, not blaming the server but if I ask details like the brand of ice cream or about the coffee I'd hope they knew where things were sourced from. (This is coming from someone who was a server and had to know these details, so don't come for me!) We ordered the charcuterie board which was pretty good. Then it kinda went downhill. My vegetable lasagna was...strange. Some bites were good, then after a while I thought...is this even pasta? The dough was thick like baked pizza bread with chunks of vegetables loaded in layers. Was it homemade pasta? If so, it was awful. The sauce for the crispy salsa verde half chicken was too vinegar-y. The black bean salsa was black beans with mashed avocado? Like a guacamole sauce? Big sigh. Next, dessert--even though the server recommended the peachy empanadas we chose the ice cream sandwich flight. It arrived, 3 ugly little sandwiches. I thought, maybe it'll taste deliciously homemade! Hopeful, I took a bite of the middle one and gagged. I said, maybe it's not my flavor. Next sandwich. Took a bite, discreetly spat it out. The server apologized profusely when we told her it was no good--I did feel bad. She didn't make it, not her fault. So she offered us something else. We chose her recommendation--the peachy empanadas. Oh boy! Listen...Peaches are in season, why are the peaches in this empanada crunchy??? The empanada dough was crispy outside and raw and doughy inside. When you bite it it stretches. The ice cream was great though. Tasted like vanilla haagen-dazs. I asked, is this haagen-dazs? She wasn't sure. Ayiyay, this is a note for management. Anyway, empanadas were also a bust. I was ready to leave so we paid and left. The chef and pastry chef attended CIA, I had high hopes for this beautiful restaurant. If I ever come back it will be for a cocktail and the view. Maybe brunch. Maybe not. Also--Someone mentioned Miss Lucy's does a better job. I went to both of these establishments and agree.

We celebrated our Anniversary last night. We couldn't have hoped for a nicer dining experience. The staff was AMAZING, the Brut Rose Wine was lovely and the food was ridiculously good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was perfectly romantic[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and [[HIGHLIGHT]]it would be a great restaurant for any celebration, as well as, Family gatherings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]One of the nicest restaurants in the Hudson Valley Region!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

First this place is so gorgeous. Beyond gorgeous. Fancy hotel it seems to be too. We came here for dinner for our last night on vacation and it couldn't have been more perfect. We of course sat outside overlooking the water, which my son loved. The bathrooms were also super nice. Food was great, service was great too. Kids meal comes with free ice cream so yeah my boy was in his glory here.

After our spa day at Waterside Spa, we treated ourselves to a date night at BLACKBARN Hudson Valley which is a farm to table restaurant located at Diamond Mills Hotel. Their food and drinks were SO tasty. Trust me and order the homemade bread to start. We shared the Crispy Seared Octopus and I needed to try the Butternut Squash Ravioli because they have a chef who focuses just on ravioli. My boyfriend got the Eight-Hour BBQ Beef Ribs which were fall off the bone, and of course we had to try the Truffle Ricotta Gnocchi which was super creamy and delicious. You NEED to check out this restaurant.

Lady Jane and Girl Talk cocktails!

If you are in Saugerties are anywhere near this town this place is worth the drive. The food is delicious and there is no better view in the area. The cocktails were on point and staff was attentive and friendly

This is the view from the outdoor patio area... AMAZING waterfall!

I had the $43 scallops. Horrible. The scallops were rubbery and completely unseasoned. The mash or purée beneath was bland and weird.

The best bar in Woodstock…read more I wish I could be a first time patron at small talk again, to relive the excitement I felt when I realized this would be my new favorite bar. I moved from Chicago and was looking for a new place to go get drinks after work. Tried many places until someone mentioned small talk to me. I tried the last word cocktail and it's been my go-to every single time I visit. We have tried the ciders, the flights, the food, cocktails and even asked for off-menu suggestions for shots and drinks and these mixologists get it right every single time. It doesn't matter who's behind that bar, is an all star crew, everyone's so nice, knowledgeable and quick. Shoutout to all of you. The place can get packed, but people move fast, with some patience you will be seated within 30 minutes. The lights are dimmed for more intimacy and with some luck you can go upstairs and see an art exposition on your way to the bathroom. If you want a place to decompress, hang out with friends, meet interesting people and make great memories, just become a regular at small talk :)

The server was extremely knowledgeable, and I had a green bean cocktail I never would've imagined would taste that good. They have a small food menu as well, but I didn't get a chance to try that as we were headed to dinner right after.

We were eager to check out Miss Lucy's as one of the more popular spots in Saugerties. Thankfully…read moreit wasn't too annoying to get a reservation and we found the spot to be busy and popular among locals and tourists alike. Walking in we were seated promptly though we immediately noticed that the interior was extremely dark. Not a big deal but worth flagging for older folks who might have a hard time reading. Our server was friendly and relatively attentive and walked us through the menu. We started off with some classics including their bread and butter (which was tasty and delicious) and ordered their P.E.I Mussels ($19) along with their Fried Brussels Sprouts ($15) to share. The portions were quite large for everything (great if you're in a larger party) but we immediately noticed that the mussels they served seemed a bit off. Many of them were not opened all the way (a sign that they might not be the freshest or recently passed) and had a bit of a fishy taste to them. We ended up not finishing them and flagged them to our waiter. The other items, including the 14oz Ribeye ($43) and baby back ribs ($28) were better, though a bit one-note. The bay back ribs in particular were extremely saucy and the corn bread was dry and a bit tough to eat. I had to use a knife to split it apart as it kept crumbling every time I used a fork. Regardless, it seems like a popular spot for a reason and perhaps we just went during more of an off-night. I'd still recommend checking it out but avoiding the mussels if you go.
